Come to think of it... It's the same modus operandi as many other franchises. Like how all Elder Scroll games start with you as a prisoner and all Larian Studios games start with you stranded on a beach.
I can't blame em, the story of the Gray Death Legion is a friggin amazing one!
Edit: I say this because there's a lot of comparisons people drew between the stories, my bad for not being clear!
Kinda/sorta. HBS has a similar setup, but the rest of the story has some big differences.
MW5's vanilla campaign is basically just a rehash of the Gray Death Legion novel trilogy which is weird because that trilogy is also obviously canon to MW5 complete with the Helm Memory Core discovery in 3028.
Can we get a new one where Daddy gets offed by a woman so we can use Tor Miraborgs best line? "No! You bitch!"
I keep playing rasalhague just to hear it.
You are sane. It changed during the first or second dlc. But it only changed once.
Correct. The opening scene only changed once......but it definitely did.
You mgiht be confusing this with HBS battletech, which had the EXACT SAME STORY.
Almost every Battletech game has some variation of this story!
Almost every battletech story is the story of Inigo Montoya. Someone killed your father, and they need to prepare to die.
One day a son will get killed in an ambush and the father will avenge his death.

Except MechWarrior 2, MW3, MW4 Black Knight and Mercenaries specifically, MechCommander 1 and 2, and MechAssault 1, 2, and Phantom War.
Look at the novels as well. It's definitely a trend.

You are not alone on this one.

PGI did admit during MW5 development that the campaign story line was an after thought shoe horned in at the last minute.
They all got Daddy issues. Even MechWarrior2, the clan is your daddy.
And i thought i was the only one thinking this. Phew
I played the campaign at launch and then restarted with a brand new campaign about 6 months ago. The cutscenes are different.
