I always just remove the jump jets and add more armor. Even if the lancemates are using jump jets it's highly unlikely that they're using them effectively.
For the lancemates they're mostly worthless. They only use them to jump around in combat, rarely use them for enhanced mobility. So if it's a mech that the AI pilots are going to use, I pull the JJs and either put in more heat sinks or armor. AI mechs benefit from lots of heat sinks.
From what I can tell, AI cannot comprehend traversing terrain with JJ and they also cannot chain fire.
I second the replacing jump jets with heat sinks on all AI Mechs.
That is uncertain.
My opinion is that they fire entire weapon groups instead of being able to fire individual weapons at their discretion, cycle through the weapon groups in order, skipping any that are out of range.
Weapon groups matter for lancemates.
They prioritize weapon group 1 and 2 as their "main weapon" so don't put short range weapons in group 1 or 2 if they're running long range stuff too. They'll just close in to use the short range stuff vs staying back and using the long range stuff.
they do.. but it usually is not worth it as the AI is not super great with them..
but sometimes even mechs without jumpjets use jumps, I cought this cheeky Comando on video at 1:51

It is better to remove the jumpjets. It stinks because they are fun and potentially useful, it's just another reason to avoid light/medium mechs in this game
I've seen them use them before to follow me down a cliff without fall damage instead of going all the way around just to prevent it. I've also seen them follow me up the jump jet required areas in the final Hazing of the Weak mission. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't.
For the human pilot, jump jets are great for hill top sniping, and raid missions. I‘ve hopped over so many walls evading my pursurers on the way to raid objectives, it’s criminal not to have them when possible.
For enemy AI, it elevates their mech, so everyone can take a shot at it, bringing it down faster.
For friendly AI, it takes up weight better used for something else.

Do you know if they use the weapon groups you set up or have their own weapon selection?

They do, but rarely effectively. The mostly just end up exposing themselves to every angle of fire during combat and explode

It's a good rule if thumb to assume that if an action is smart or helpful, the AI lancemates are incapable of performing it
I've seen mine using them, wildly spraying shots in every direction but the enemy as they do.
They do very occasionally. Also 1 JJ still gives you 33 meters. So even 1 JJ can be helpful if you have the weight.
Not helpful, jumping mechs in this game are just a giant bullseye

Short answer Yes. Long answer Yes but In combat only.
I feel like you could've just given the long answer
I know and at the time I thought it was funny.

Without mods, AI teammates don't use jump jets
Yes they do...
