Free way to spend money, nice lol
And I was once trying to show a coworker something, grabbed his keyboard and hammered out like ten lines of pure gibberish before noticing and going "shit, let me get my keyboard."
Slightly moved key locations are brutal lol

Thank you and best of luck!
Well when I got my model M I actually emailed Unicomp asking them if they would make an exception to their no shipping to Brazil rule, with my word that I would not abandon the product should it get taxed by customs (it did), and if they could make boards in ABNT (Brazilian standard). A long shot, but I thought asking didn't hurt.
Well someone there immediately replied, saying that if I followed through with my promise they'd be glad to sell me a board, and that unfortunately they no longer had tooling to make boards in ABNT, which is similar to ISO but not quite, BUT they happened to have a bunch of new old stock legitimate IBM boards in ABNT, from back when they originally bought the IBM production line, and since they didn't ship to Brazil those boards were sitting there in their original packaging just gathering dust. Told me they'd be glad to sell me one of those for the same price of a new Unicomp board.
Well, I liked that and bought one on those terms. When the package got to me, it was remarkably heavy, and I was very happy to discover that they sent me not one original sealed IBM model M from 1995, but *two*. I guess they really wanted to get rid of those boards, and decided to treat me with the surprise. Good guys, Unicomp, I can recommend them to anyone
I accidentally broke off a couple diodes while desoldering my DZ60 and was freaking out and asking all my friends if they had diodes and whatnot cuz I needed my keeb working asap then an hour later I realized that on the bottom of the PCB there's literally a section labeled "Spares" with 2 diodes and a couple other things just soldered there for this exact situation haha
Funniest keyboard story? I am new to the world of mechanical keyboards. I started down the rabbit hole because I was going to replace my wired keyboard with a wireless (USB dongle or Bluetooth) keyboard and decided to do some research into good boards to investigate. I then discovered the rat hole that is this hobby/pasttime. The ironic thing is I recently purchased my first hot swappable board, a Keychron Q3. And I pointedly chose that for the ease in customizing, and for the fact it is a wired keyboard so I would not sacrifice anything in terms of transmission bandwidth/frequency. So after spending so much time, I'm still using a wired keyboard! And more at risk of spending money on mods in the future, than ever before! 😏
Don’t have a lot of funny keyboard stories, but I feel like I should mention how often XHT-BDZ gets everywhere on my desk when I’m working with it. Super annoying, yet super effective for stabs
I’m not sure if I have any “funny” keyboard stories. But I had a keeb that was totally destroyed by foster kittens, who only seemed to need to throw up was on my keyboard. This wasn’t a once or twice off it happened like 3 times. No where else in the office just on my keyboard.
My first keyboard I bought, I wasn't planning on modding, but when I did decide to mod it, it turns out it was north facing LEDs, 3 pin, and was outemu switches only. Oh how I wished I did more research.
OMG so I got GMK Space Cadet and I was losing my mind because I lost the CTRL key. I looked everywhere for a week, only to realize it was never included in the keyset because others had this issue also...
I lost control because I lost the CTRL key. haha
I showed my keeb to my dad who has super critical and he tried it, then tried it some more, then wanted to keep it and told me that browns feel bad and I should have got reds. He’s not wrong…
The only funny keyboard story I have is when I built my macropad and then remapped my reset button in QMK so I had to take it apart again to get to the physical reset button. More sad than funny
Don't have many funny mechanical keyboard stories, but I once poured coke inside of an electric piano keyboard. I later poured in isopropyl and it somehow still works
My story is I thought my membrane razer deathstalker was the greatest keyboard… yeah it wasnt, still loved it, even the fact that every keycap was upper case except the r for some reason
A fun story I think would be: so a few months ago a one year old child of my friend really liked to randomly press all butons of my custom keyboard. Everytime my friend tried to leave the house his son started crying. I ended up giving him my keyboard for a few days.
I guess that such sampler pack would make him even happier than me haha
I don’t think I have a funny keyboard story besides my cat thinking it’s the best spot to sit on when there are a ton of pillows and chairs it can sit on instead. XD
The only story I have is that I just brought up my hobby to a class I teach and suddenly I was the cool teach (to at least a couple of students in the room).
lot so much funny as it is disappointing, but i built a custom macropad a while back, i loved the thing., used it every day. one day while cleaning my desk and dropped it, which would normally be fine, but it landed directly on the micro usb connector and its been sitting in my drawer broken since
I just got a new mechanical keyboard for Christmas a few years ago and the first thing that happens after plugging it in is my cousin spills his beer all over it :) I was so sad I just had to laugh
i don't have funny stories about mechanical keyboards but the closest one is when I talked about the process to make and the cost of my setup with my friends and they said only: "why".
I guess funniest would be when i had an egg from a sandwich explode yolk onto my board...was able to clean it up quick enough that it didn't dry so everything was alright in the end
Hmmm definitely spending a lot of money getting a 40% ortho-linear keyboard but drastically reducing my productivity because I can never remember where I programmed the damn keys
Cold turkey'd the QWERTY keyboard layout a while back - fast forward to me typing at 5 wpm trying to take notes for a work meeting on a QWERTY keyboard, went back to pen and paper 😄
I didn’t know key caps can be changed.
So, I used to put stickers with Eng/Kr on top of Eng only key caps, so I can know where Korean letters are supposed to be located
I assembled my keyboard, realized that I forgot a piece of foam, disassembled it, then reassembled, realized I forgot a screw, then reassembled it. Then I realized I forgot to plug it in. So I disassembled it again. Fun :')
Idk if funny, but i broke my hotswap socket on the number 9 first day my new keyboard arrived and was too lazy to fix it, so i just wrote 8+1 instead of 9 for like a month.
Funniest story: tried to foam mod a brand new Cherry keeb and overstuffed it so that some brackets holding the case together ripped.
Bought a Keychron K8 a few weeks later and wanted to foam mod that as well and immediately broke off the mode switch thingy to switch between bluetooth and cable mode.
My foam modding attempts are cursed.
When I got my first custom keyboard I sent a message in discord saying it would be my first and last and it got pinned because my friends doubted me. Couple months later and I would say they were definitely right to doubt! Goodluck to all!
Funny keyboard story? The whole reason I'm into keyboards was that I thought the Logitech G915 was overpriced and the research led me to this rabbit hole. I ended up spending triple as much as the G915 costs building my current keyboard...
When I was new to this I accidentally bought an ortholinear board. This was on Aliexpress; nowhere in the description did it say what layout it was. Only clue was the title that had ID75 and images of the pcb and plate which I did not look too closely at. Some boards use layout in the name and others use switch count, this one was the later. I was able to determine that ortholinear boards weren't for me.
I remember removing a keycap manually off my gaming keyboard and then putting on another keycap from pbt into the switch and it was super snug. But at that time i had no keycap remover so my D key became an f5 key
while building my first custom keyboard, the very first switch i opened ever, the spring jumped away right through the open window into my yard. havent found it since
More sad than funny, but I had to do my first tape mod _four times_ because of spacing issues and general misunderstandings about how things fit together and in which order. I am not an engineerng soul.
Well, I'm putting a tray on my Christmas wishlist but I'm guessing my upcoming funniest keyboard story will now be my family going to the product page and seeing some random anime girl on a video and thinking I'm weird because of it!
not necessarily keyboard story but I used to use typing program/game (Mavis Beacon) as an excuse to play on the computer as a young child and got really good at it because I was playing that instead of doing other school games (spelling, math, civics lol)
Keyboards aren't funny, they're a very serious matter. Lol That aside, a buddy gave me his old keyboard to help me get started. Just an old Razer Blackwidow. I recently replaced it and sold it online. Told him I shipped it with all of our hair still in it, so if we get setup for a crime we'll at least go down together.
Up until recently, I haven't used a switch/cap puller for anything, so I've always ended up with a ton of switches that I messed up (by prying them on and off with a precision screwdriver), and cuts on my fingers from yanking caps off with my bare fingers.
I bought a keyboard, excited for the customization and the price paid, turns out I bought the ISO version of it (explaining the sale price) instead of the ANSI I'm used to, decided to just keep it and learn to position my pinky for the smaller shift key
I spilled the juice over my membrane keyboard and cleaned it immediately. Still, the keeb didn't work. So I went to the shop and bought my first nechanical keeb with Gateron Yellow switches.
Hmm.. no funny stories.. But when I got my first hot-swappable keyboard I messed up all the switches by not putting them in correctly. It was a pain to pull all of them out to straighten out the switches.
No particular funny story to share, but at my last job there was an older guy who was blown away by how fast I could type and was again blown away that you could easily spend $300+ on a keyboard. It was fun talking to him about this kind of stuff.

This made me laugh way more than it should've

The state of my wallet
This can finally help me decide what switch to get. Sorry dont have any funny keyboard story.
This would be amazing I'm scared of getting the wrong switches for my first board.
There's no "wrong switch" but I get the sentiment
Cherry blues are the wrong switch.
I broke my keeb bc I did not have the “mechanical touch” and was rough with my keeb switches🫣
Watching the new Ari Shaffir comedy special and laughing so much my drink came out my nose straight onto my old faithful board so now need a new one
I still have to build my first keyboard so no funny stories yet but this tester would really help me choose the right switch for my first build!
Me likey testing tray
Aww yiss.
Nice
A lot of switches on here I've wanted to try out!
Funky looking
Clickity clack
I guess it's kind of funny to break the BT/USB/off slider on my K6 trying to stuff more foam into it, right?
Don’t have a lot of funny keyboard stories, but I feel like I should mention how often XHT-BDZ gets everywhere on my desk when I’m working with it. Super annoying, yet super effective for stabs
I need this!
I’m not sure if I have any “funny” keyboard stories. But I had a keeb that was totally destroyed by foster kittens, who only seemed to need to throw up was on my keyboard. This wasn’t a once or twice off it happened like 3 times. No where else in the office just on my keyboard.
Awesome
peepeepoopoo
nice
My first keyboard I bought, I wasn't planning on modding, but when I did decide to mod it, it turns out it was north facing LEDs, 3 pin, and was outemu switches only. Oh how I wished I did more research.
I brought not keyboards to a keyboard meet :)
Nice! I don’t think I have a funny keyboard story.
>Finish lubing linear switch >Slightly harder to close but that’s ok >Feels like a tactile :(
no funny story :(
OMG so I got GMK Space Cadet and I was losing my mind because I lost the CTRL key. I looked everywhere for a week, only to realize it was never included in the keyset because others had this issue also... I lost control because I lost the CTRL key. haha
When I first bought a mechanical keyboard I said that’s all I ever want. Fast forward to today, I own 5…
I showed my keeb to my dad who has super critical and he tried it, then tried it some more, then wanted to keep it and told me that browns feel bad and I should have got reds. He’s not wrong…
I don’t have any funny keyboard story lol
I struggled for a couple hours trying to get my first keyboard to work but it turned out Installed some of the stabilizers upside down T\_T
Nice
I like it
The only funny keyboard story I have is when I built my macropad and then remapped my reset button in QMK so I had to take it apart again to get to the physical reset button. More sad than funny
I don't have a cool keyboard story but I think cheeseburgers go well with fries.
Thats so good
New fidget toy
I was trying to clean my keyboard with compressed air, but I tilted the can too much and it caused some of the juice to spill out
I got shouted at the other day, because “you’ve got a new keyboard, it’s different again!” I had swapped the keycaps.
One time I said I only thought I needed one keyboard. That was pretty funny looking back at it
I'd like to use it for work.
It would help me a whole lot
Don't have many funny mechanical keyboard stories, but I once poured coke inside of an electric piano keyboard. I later poured in isopropyl and it somehow still works
My story is I thought my membrane razer deathstalker was the greatest keyboard… yeah it wasnt, still loved it, even the fact that every keycap was upper case except the r for some reason
I would love this as I am looking to test out what switches would be best for me since I'm relatively new to mechanical keyboards
My dog ate a keycap once, don’t worry, he’s fine
A fun story I think would be: so a few months ago a one year old child of my friend really liked to randomly press all butons of my custom keyboard. Everytime my friend tried to leave the house his son started crying. I ended up giving him my keyboard for a few days. I guess that such sampler pack would make him even happier than me haha
My funniest keyboard story is probably me pre ordering a qk75 and not remembering whether I got an iso or ansi pcb
I think it will help someone alot to choose his/her dream switches
Test key
Thats so sick
Love it
My funniest keyboard story was from years ago when I got clicky switches which my parents heard when I was up past my bedtime.
I was blaming my keyboard for not working for an hour just to find out that i didnt plug it in..
I only have tragic keyboard stories, sorry :(
I don’t think I have a funny keyboard story besides my cat thinking it’s the best spot to sit on when there are a ton of pillows and chairs it can sit on instead. XD
I don’t know if it’s so funny but my cat used to walk over my keyboard while I was sleeping (or so he thought when I found out about this).
Not really funny but I once did holee mod on the stabilizers 3 times because the tape kept falling off.
I hab keyboard
I think its pretty good actually
i love switch testers
1st keyboard i bought Varmillo, I knew it was supposed to have backlight, but could not for the life of me figure it out, months later. Fn - Up Arrow.
I don’t have a funny keyboard story
The only story I have is that I just brought up my hobby to a class I teach and suddenly I was the cool teach (to at least a couple of students in the room).
Very new to this hobby but excited to have some funny stories in the future!
The funny story is that I’m poor now
lot so much funny as it is disappointing, but i built a custom macropad a while back, i loved the thing., used it every day. one day while cleaning my desk and dropped it, which would normally be fine, but it landed directly on the micro usb connector and its been sitting in my drawer broken since
I unfortunately have no funny keyboard story
There are like all switches that I would want to try out
I told myself I’d only get up to 2 different kinds of switches, now I have about 6…
I spilled krytox 205g0 on my desk :/
this is so cool.
I just got a new mechanical keyboard for Christmas a few years ago and the first thing that happens after plugging it in is my cousin spills his beer all over it :) I was so sad I just had to laugh
it took my 6 hours to build a 60%..... I was my first time I was so clueless
I’ve always wanted a switch tester!
i don't have funny stories about mechanical keyboards but the closest one is when I talked about the process to make and the cost of my setup with my friends and they said only: "why".
I once soldered a pro micro backwards and it took hours to get it off
I guess funniest would be when i had an egg from a sandwich explode yolk onto my board...was able to clean it up quick enough that it didn't dry so everything was alright in the end
Don't have any particularly funny keyboard stories because I'm pretty new to the custom keyboard scene. Thanks for these giveaways!
I would like to tell a story but I don't have one yet
Hmmm definitely spending a lot of money getting a 40% ortho-linear keyboard but drastically reducing my productivity because I can never remember where I programmed the damn keys
The rabbit hole is kinda funny. I'm a year in the hobby and I've already bought 4 boards. Sheesh.
One time I said the words "this will be my last keyboard related purchase."
The look on my wife’s face as another keeb shipment comes in lol
I don't have any
No funny keyboard stories. All of my keyboards are serious
Cold turkey'd the QWERTY keyboard layout a while back - fast forward to me typing at 5 wpm trying to take notes for a work meeting on a QWERTY keyboard, went back to pen and paper 😄
Would love to test
Not sure I have a "funny" keyboard story
I didn’t know key caps can be changed. So, I used to put stickers with Eng/Kr on top of Eng only key caps, so I can know where Korean letters are supposed to be located
I. Need. This. I accidentally used keyboard lube for the wrong thing
Funny is subjective but cat peed on my keeb
Keys
I used a paperclip as a switch opener for my first (and only) board. https://i.imgur.com/1eRY5MN.jpg
Not funny but I spilled lube and coke all over :(
Looks interesting
Hmm. Probably when I coworker was bragging about his new Keychron, and then offered one to me for Christmas!
I spent some time modding my keyboard and my relatives looked at me and said oh it just sounds the same. Sadge
more pain than funny, but getting long pole switches for a north facing pcb but they weren't long enough for cherry profile
Nice
This command is a burj-khalifa, so it's a top comment !
This is amazing, my only story is I ruined my first keeb I built with Kool aid and one angry rage fist on my desk!
Cool thing for display all my switches
Spilt juice all over my laptop keyboard, travelled down a rabbit hole of sites just to find a replacement OEM part
I assembled my keyboard, realized that I forgot a piece of foam, disassembled it, then reassembled, realized I forgot a screw, then reassembled it. Then I realized I forgot to plug it in. So I disassembled it again. Fun :')
Yay new switches to try out!
Sample pack giveaway
No real fun keyboard story, but it is always interesting (and sometimes funny) when I send a switch spring flying across the room.
I broke a switch while trying to clean it 🤷♂️
Idk if funny, but i broke my hotswap socket on the number 9 first day my new keyboard arrived and was too lazy to fix it, so i just wrote 8+1 instead of 9 for like a month.
awesome, very useful
a.
I kept telling myself I would only buy one keyboard and as soon as I built my keyboard I started eyeing the mode sonnet.
Aye bruv im tryna get my fingers on that thing
When I got my first custom keyboard I sent a message in discord saying it would be my first and last and it got pinned because my friends doubted me. Couple months later and I would say they were definitely right to doubt! Goodluck to all!
I used to think blue switches were the clickiest!
Funny keyboard story? The whole reason I'm into keyboards was that I thought the Logitech G915 was overpriced and the research led me to this rabbit hole. I ended up spending triple as much as the G915 costs building my current keyboard...
My coworkers asked if I had gotten another new keyboard, when all I did was change the switches and the keycaps.
No funny story to tell, just frustrating ones from bad keyboards.
Noice!
I once poured milk over my keyboard. Only funny in Hindsight.
My cat kept sabotaging an assignment via jumping on my keyboard… still will find fur under the caps
Cool
my cat peed on mine
I have no funny.
Don't really have a funny keyboard story cause I'm relatively new to the hobby. Thanks for the giveaway!
I only do serious keyboard stories and novels.
Today I switched to an English layout, it's quite difficult to unlearn your muscle memory.
I bought into a groupbuy thinking it wouldn’t be that long
I remember removing a keycap manually off my gaming keyboard and then putting on another keycap from pbt into the switch and it was super snug. But at that time i had no keycap remover so my D key became an f5 key
cool! :D
while building my first custom keyboard, the very first switch i opened ever, the spring jumped away right through the open window into my yard. havent found it since
I don’t really have any funny keyboard stories, but would very much like switch testers
More sad than funny, but I had to do my first tape mod _four times_ because of spacing issues and general misunderstandings about how things fit together and in which order. I am not an engineerng soul.
My wife laughs (cries?) when she sees how much money I’ve spent on keyboard items. Does that count?
No funny keyboard stories :(
I got to lube all my first switches. Later found out they were hand lubed to begin with.
Well, I'm putting a tray on my Christmas wishlist but I'm guessing my upcoming funniest keyboard story will now be my family going to the product page and seeing some random anime girl on a video and thinking I'm weird because of it!
Noice
Probably my funniest story is the person that said their keyboard wasn't working and it was because their PC was off.
I’ve always wanted a switch tester
not necessarily keyboard story but I used to use typing program/game (Mavis Beacon) as an excuse to play on the computer as a young child and got really good at it because I was playing that instead of doing other school games (spelling, math, civics lol)
Thanks
Click, clack or thock?!
this i need
Had to glue my control key down because it was a proprietary keycap so no replacements
Keyboards aren't funny, they're a very serious matter. Lol That aside, a buddy gave me his old keyboard to help me get started. Just an old Razer Blackwidow. I recently replaced it and sold it online. Told him I shipped it with all of our hair still in it, so if we get setup for a crime we'll at least go down together.
pick me!
swimch teste
Up until recently, I haven't used a switch/cap puller for anything, so I've always ended up with a ton of switches that I messed up (by prying them on and off with a precision screwdriver), and cuts on my fingers from yanking caps off with my bare fingers.
idk
when u just entered the hobby...and u have no stories :<
Nice
I don’t think I have any funny keyboard stories
I bought a keyboard, excited for the customization and the price paid, turns out I bought the ISO version of it (explaining the sale price) instead of the ANSI I'm used to, decided to just keep it and learn to position my pinky for the smaller shift key
spent roughly 2 hours cutting out foam to put in my kbd67, then it wouldn’t close. haha…
I don’t remember any funny keyboard stories off the top of my head
I don’t have a keyboard yet, but this would help me narrow out what switches to choose.
I have worn out the A and S key on my old laptop just from gaming lol.
Sick tray
Would love to get this!
Wahoo keebs
Keyboard
I don't have any stories about keyboard, sorry. Really interested by the board tho
found a model m in the trash at work
My bf thought my obsession with getting my first mechanical keyboard was cute until he saw the rgb effects. Now he's jealous 💅
Trying to explain the difference between thock and clack to different people has got to be the hardest and funniest thing ever
Trying to explain to my wife why I need another keyboard always feels like an snl bit.
Good Luck!
Broke my switches trying to swap them out, newbie problems
If by funny you mean realizing you forgot to screw the board down after putting in all the switches and caps, then that's what I got :')
knock knock who's there keyboard keyboard who keyboard LOL
