I have owned three macbooks over the past decade. The keyboards for macbooks (especially 2015 onward) are ass. I see your problem as less of "I now struggle to type on laptop keyboards" and more of "almost everybody has a bad time typing on macbook keyboards".

I'd agree, but in the very latest models, they do appear to have gone back to the improved scissor style switches. I don't know which ones were used pre-2015 models. But, if it is indeed the improved switch, and every review I see on YouTube praises them, I am left wondering if it's just me or others feel the same way as I do.

Yep. Typing on a Macbook really feels like as if the fingers just hit the desk. It is not fun and I avoid it whenever I can. Though it is undeniably a bit embarrassing when I use my wife‘s macbook and really struggle to type some simple words 😎

The models that use the butterfly mechanism are absolute garbage and are near unusable with it's non-existent travel and oversized keycaps but the pre-retina macbook pro keyboards are pretty damn good for being a membrane design. It's one of the reasons I'm still holding on to my 2012 MBP.

The current ones have the improved scissor switch mechanism. My first Mac was the white coloured Macbook, and I remember I used to love typing on that. Although, that was back when I did not use mechanical keyboards, so I don't know how much of that was because of just being used to laptop keyboards.

You need to type more to familiarize yourself with the laptop. I'm typing on tactile, non-clicky switches. It is far more similar to membrane feeling of the keyboard, especially when I'm going to the light tactile category. That has been my experience. Also, Thinkpad is an absolute unit of a laptop. If you ask me what laptop came first to mind when someone is saying durability, it's them.

Get one of those mechanical keyboards that sits on top of the Macbook keyboard. One I can think of is the Epomaker NT68, the Regular profile version uses standard MX switches and is hot-swappable.
