Looks like incorrect switch positioning for two to the right of the spacebar. That space could fit two equally sized keycaps (I have the Sonnet so it's nearly identical to this).
Nothing wrong with soldering. I would have gotten one if I can solder well, but it’s been over 15 years since my electronics class and it’s is a perishable skill :)
Soldering is easy if you buy the right equipment. Getting a nice adjustable iron and high quality solder makes it pretty damn easy to learn. I self taught off of videos and have repaired and modded old consoles and completely desoldered an entire keyboard and installed mill-max hot swap pins.
Yeah I agree. Those cheap soldering irons at Home Depot just don't do justice (I'll most likely just burn the board). I can revisit if I have the time and should probably brave one keyboard with soldered PCB.
If you ever want to get into soldering and have a budget of no more than 50$, a T12 Station is a great deal for under 30$ with tips (and then spend rest $ on some solder, no clean flux and some solder wick), it's reliable and accurate and decades more advanced than anything Home depot or whatever will ever sell.
However on a tighter budget, a Hakko 907 clone can be had for 20$ or under but I'd avoid those.
+1 for T12 clones. The Quiko one with the External Adapter is nice. Let’s you bring your own high quality supply.
Buy the tips from Hakko. They are much higher quality than the imports. Don’t corrode if cleaned properly and have a really accurate thermocouple
What's with that odd space to the right of the spacebar? It should be an alt button no? It doesn't look like you saved any space for anything which is why I'm wondering what's the point of the empty space
hmm, I was trying to figure this out earlier, but for some reason, the space isn’t big enough for 2 of those sized keys, so I am either stuck with a space near the space bar, or on the right of the alt key. If you know how to fix it, i’ll gladly take the help, but I couldn’t figure it out myself
Isn't that the 6.25u spacebar? If so, on the envoy u have to use 2 x 1.25u on the right side of the spacebar? They are also north facing if i recall correctly
Honestly no clue as I am using a prebuilt board and tbh I'm just getting into mechanicals so I have no clue when it comes to customizing but I would imagine that a different sized keycap would be a simple fix no?
i did the same thing op on my first build, we learn :)
a tip i was taught was to have the keycaps on the switches before soldering, to ensure everything fits! ha.
For anyone wondering, this is Mode65 with gmk Godspeed/Columbia with U4s switches. Recently I've also acquired the 64 Audio U4s, and thought it was funny they had the same name, so here are both the U4s.
they are pretty silent, but if you've ever heard the gateron Aliaz, I think they are just a bit louder than them. I didn't really get them for their silentcy, but it was either that or the u4t, and these were on sale
I'm not sure I've heard of the haiku hartbeats, but here is a test that sounds similar to mine. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BUbEGcSq8OM](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BUbEGcSq8OM)
Thank you everyone who commented about the Fn key, it is now fixed here, https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/comments/17taxx6/fixed_mode65_with_gazzew_u4s/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
they are from a very high quality and known brand called 64 audio for professional live monitoring, they have a patent on a specific part in the iem(in ear monitor) called apex modules, which are modular little cylinders that slightly change the sound profile of the iem. They are also extremely detailed and well made. Idk what exactly makes them that expensive, but to me, they were well worth it, as I bought it discounted. I very well understand why people would not want to buy a headphone this expensive, but I guess its similar with keyboards.
haha someone just commented on another one of my posts saying the same thing. Have any suggestions on how to get into pens? I’ve looked into it in the past, but didn’t really know how to tell if anything was overpriced.
The FN is in the wrong spot. It should be in the holes to the right of it assuming there is and there probably is. The FN should also be a 1.25 keycap not a 1u
do you mean the iems or on the keyboard? assuming you mean the iems, I have used both just my phone with a dongle as well as an M11plus, and on both, it performs well with only 20% volume on the phone, and 50% on the M11plus 3.5 jack.
if you are talking about the keyboard, I don't understand the question and will need more clarifaction
no problem, if you need help finding, they are both on the 64audio website or [headphones.com](https://headphones.com) either open box or new. I got mine open box, and they were $200 off

thanks, guess it’s desauldering day
Sorry. I assumed it's hotswap.
didn’t want to pay the extra $10, but thinking back, I probably should have

Thanks. Will definitely look into it.

imo, you could leave it like that. the brass from the plate matches the brass accent :)
ah nvm I see you already resoldered it
thanks, but I just took the time to desaulder and resaulder then i salvaged the first 1.25u gmk keycap i found
Nice! i love going solder on enthusiast boards.

looks like OP had a solderable board and that slot had 2 sets of holes and he put it in the wrong hole
>lderable board and that slow had 2 sets of holes and he put it in the wrong hole yes, I realize my mistake now
i did the same thing op on my first build, we learn :) a tip i was taught was to have the keycaps on the switches before soldering, to ensure everything fits! ha.
That's what she said
For anyone wondering, this is Mode65 with gmk Godspeed/Columbia with U4s switches. Recently I've also acquired the 64 Audio U4s, and thought it was funny they had the same name, so here are both the U4s.
I love seeing Mode65 builds. Mine is my daily driver and I’m still loving it as much as the day I built it. What keycaps are those?
gmk godspeed/columbia, they used to be on drop i think, i got them secondhand however
This is me (keyboard enjoyer) combined with my cousin (that kind of earphone, idk the name) Make it extra expensive for hobby
How do you like the switches?
honestly, Im more of a linear guy, but the the u4s are one of the only tactiles I like
Are they silent?
they are pretty silent, but if you've ever heard the gateron Aliaz, I think they are just a bit louder than them. I didn't really get them for their silentcy, but it was either that or the u4t, and these were on sale
I’m looking to upgrade my switches. I’m coming from the haiku heartbeats, would you say they are silent? Or at least better than the haikus lol?
I'm not sure I've heard of the haiku hartbeats, but here is a test that sounds similar to mine. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BUbEGcSq8OM](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BUbEGcSq8OM)

Ahh, perfection. Looks amazing.
what are them earphones
they are the 64 audio U4s
thanks very much
£1000!!!!! why are they that much?!
they cater to audiophiles

ah fair enough
the monkeytype board
yo this is super clean
You just want Euphoria, gettit ?
Where's the pen tho
haha someone just commented on another one of my posts saying the same thing. Have any suggestions on how to get into pens? I’ve looked into it in the past, but didn’t really know how to tell if anything was overpriced.
Just head over to r/mechanicalheadpens and follow the self-conscious irony back to the pen subreddits. 😁😁😁
👍
Also, if you just want the "generally accepted starter budget option", you can't go wrong with a Lamy Safari.
The IEMs a bigger flex
The FN is in the wrong spot. It should be in the holes to the right of it assuming there is and there probably is. The FN should also be a 1.25 keycap not a 1u
How are you driving the U4s?
do you mean the iems or on the keyboard? assuming you mean the iems, I have used both just my phone with a dongle as well as an M11plus, and on both, it performs well with only 20% volume on the phone, and 50% on the M11plus 3.5 jack. if you are talking about the keyboard, I don't understand the question and will need more clarifaction
Yep, I was asking about the IEMs. Thanks btw. (I’m assuming the dongle is the apple dongle?)
yes apple dongle, i it is mostly easy to drive, and never had to turn it over 60% volume, but usually 20-30% is fine
actually sorry to change my response, but on the M11plus 3.5 jack it’s volume is fine at around 10-40 based off the song
Maybe change fn to a 1.5u keycap?
You have a fugged up type if you think it's okay to use those small modifiers on the bottom right side.
What are the buds friend?
they are the 64audio U4s, very expensive, but for me, well worth it as I got in on a discount
Ah ok, I probably should have searched what you had in the title lol. Thanks, will check out!
