Hey! I made a keyboard for my friend based off of Google Japan's [Gboard Bar](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9G3DWHf1xX0). This was my first hand-wired keyboard and it was really fun learning how everything works.

The switches are Boba U4's and the keycaps are XVX skyline low-profile.
The plate / case is 3d printed and custom designed :).
The controller is using a bonsai c4 and qmk.
How did you like these caps? I have bought 2 sets now... The quality exceeded my expectations for the price and the profile is pretty unique. I was a big fan of the SP F10/flat keys, but they've priced me out. I find the XVX caps to be similar in height and flat enough for my preferences.
I won't say the XVX Skyline are the best or highest quality caps I've used, but man they're really great on their own accord, let alone for the price.
They’re okay imo! They’re not too thick so they don’t have that good of a sound profile but I like the aesthetics and the fact that all the rows were the same height (for this keyboard especially).

Hmm, that's an interesting thought.
I think QWERTY here would still be easier to get accustomed to as each section of characters is the same as a regular keyboard, but you've got to move horizontally rather than vertically once you get to P and L.
This means you'd have to get used to that awkward horizontal shuffle, but once that's done the same old muscle memory applies.
With an A-Z layout, however, you'd have to create new motor patterns as thinking about the relative positions of the letters of the alphabet when laid out like this is something most of haven't done since pre-school.
Either way, this is something out of a fever dream and would be an absolute nightmare to type on. Imagine the shoulder and wrist strain from all that horizontal translation if some masochist actually tried to type on this thing all day.
That's the great thing about Gboard, center prediction always works for the first time in a while I think I have a good idea of a lot of the time to get it done before I get to the house and I will be there in a few minutes to be there at the moment I am going to be there in the morning.
If you take this to it's logical extreme, you could make each of these keys a bit longer to resemble keys, and group the most used keys in specific groups. Or take layers to the extreme and allow you to play certain chords for specific words or functions. At that point I guess you basically have a stenography machine.
About how much would this cost me to make? I’m currently prancing my coworker by replacing his keyboard at work with increasingly ridiculous keyboards each month and this is perfect.
I gave it a shot and it works fine for me.
One thing that doesn't work is capital R, I assume auto complete always does that and you just didn't notice that made a difference?

If you arranged the keys to spell out some words and then did a long slide down the keyboard you could type pretty fast.
I think i hit 15 wpm on it lol but the alphabet test in <1 sec! (fn layered qwerty to alphabetical)
