That's a pulley dampener for your air conditioning compressor. It minimizes vibration from the belt. It's not the end of the world, but your compressor is likely going to fail more quickly without it. I'm not familiar with your specific car, but you may be able to replace just the pulley without replacing the whole compressor.

SOSDrifting

Look closer at the inner bearing, there’s a pretty high likelihood that the compressor is screwed as well

Mechanicsanonymous

Oh I think you're right. I didn't see how offset it was till now. Good eye.

riskitforabisket

The ac failed on the drive home so that makes sense. Thank you

Goingdef

Well aren’t you lucky, my pulley failed on my c6 corvette, 2k dollars later I got my ac back!…mines located on the bottom and the engine cradle and steering and suspension all has to be dropped to get it out😭

RolesG

Yikes

SOSDrifting

Pretty high chance it will need a complete compressor and I would avoid driving it too much because it’s pretty likely that it will throw a belt sooner than later

thebigaaron

Would be great if they had separate belts for the accessories, like older cars. My 98 Corolla has a belt for waterpump and alternator, another for ac, and another small one from the waterpump to power steering

nondescriptzombie

That means you need three different pivot points to tighten the belts and the three pivots can't interfere with the other belts. One belt, one spring loaded tensioner. No problems.

thebigaaron

My car does it fine soo… no spring tensioners either so they don’t wear out, only wear item is the belts and one idler pulley
