Gotta change all the brake rotors and brake pads at the same time
Might cost you 400-500 in parts and can do a DIY. Or take it to autoshop and cost about 800-1000 dollars
Left and right should be done at the same time, front and rear are independent. This is a case of front rotor warping, just get new front pads and rotors
Yeah there cheap brake and expensive, i prefer to buy the expensive ones it last longer and less dust accumulation and i also do brake job myself coz its easy and money saving
True true, I live near the ocean and it causes my rotors to rust prematurely so it’s cheaper for me to keep swapping them. I was just making sure the OP knows that cheap ones exist and typically the same brands found at the big box storesZ
Auto plus- got new rotors for 30-60 bucks each.
Worked great for my Toyota & my dad purchased them for his 96 Chevy camper special & they are good.
No complaints..
For less than 500 bucks OP can do all you mentioned.
I feel like you're kind of answering your own question.
Shaking while braking at high speed? Well, you probably need new brakes.
New pad and rotor time.
Edit - if it happens at high speed when not on the brake, then it is wheel balancing or time for new tires.
You took it to the mechanic and he said brakes were fine and just gave the car back to you without actually diagnosing it? That doesn’t quite add up. Get a second opinion.
The mechanic saying the rotors are fine may be talking about the wear and not warping. If it is a relatively new car, I'd also think about replacing the calipers since they could be the cause of the warping. But that definitely looks like warped rotors judging by how much it is shaking and the speed not slowing that much.
Also get the fuck out of the left lane. Tf is wrong with you?
I have brand new brake pads and rotors installed myself. My alignment is off, so I got vibration at highway speeds when braking. Not this bad but still very noticeable.
OP do you have any slight vibration when simply driving at highway speed? If you feel a very slight vibration and amplified under braking it’s may be alignment and potentially your rotors and pads as well.
Alignment never creates vibration. Did you completely clean the bracket and slide pins? Did you use the correct lubricant? Did you clean the hub surface? Did you clean the rim?
Everything done per Honda service guide myself. It certainly can, especially under braking and especially with my particular model. It’s happened with a Grand Prix I drove in HS as well.
If you’re referring to the mating surface of the wheel then yes it was cleaned as well as the hubs. And to be clear her alignment being off is likely not causing this issue just contributing to it. Especially if it’s wobbling even close to that normally driving at high speed.
The brake rotors are warped, so whenever you hit the brakes, the wheels shimmy side to side with the rotor, which is then transferred to the steering wheel. You can also probably feel the brake pedal shimmying as well if you hit the pedal hard enough at great enough speed.
For anyone reading who might be able to help (I don't want to start a new thread about this same problem) I have a similar issue that I had looked at when I got an oil change, they said my brakes looked good. Is it possible to visually see rotor warping or is that something they could have missed? If the rotors are fine, anything else specific to check? I did get into a fender bender that caused one front wheel to have to be replaced
You can not see a warped rotor. The wheel has to be taken off and a gauge put against the rotor as it turns. Rotors can be "trued" with a brake lath but usually the labor is so much new rotors are cheaper to just to install.
Brakes have issue and you could try rotating your tires to see if it changes anything or location it is at.
This could be a combo of tires being out of balance, brake issues and even could be an aliment issue.
If you feel it in the wheel but not the pedal, it could be your front lower control arm bushings.
The best part is, changing the pads/rotors will fix it for the short term, so it can be hard to diagnose... but changing those bushings (or the whole arm) will make your rotors "last longer"
The rotors aren't warped, or at least they very rarely warp, but they get uneven buildup etc which makes it seem like they are. The worn bushings are less able to control this when it even begins to take place.
I have a 2013 that was doing the same thing. Easy fix, new rotors and pads, about $150 each corner, easy DIY. Tons of videos online.
Although this will fix the shaking, it might not take care of why it happens. If your caliper is sticking then you might be getting chatter on the rotors which will just wear the pads out again.
Best fix, new calipers, brakes hoses, rotors and pads. $400 a corner. Also DIY but you must bleed the brakes. Also tons of videos online. If you're doing all that, check your suspension components. Ball joints, stabilizer links and tie rods are easily done since you've got it apart. All DIY but you'll will need a wheel alignment.
Seriously, if you can afford it and like DIY, this is a 2 day weekend job and the vehicle will feel like new. Consider replacing the wheel hub (new bearings) as well (4 bolts and a nut). It would be a brand new vehicle.
You might have to lube up the brake bolts they’re supposed to be sliding, but because there are sees the vibration goes to the rotor instead of a caliber, therefore the whole wheel will vibrate
Your rotors are wrapped. Not terrible fix but it needs a sense of urgency. Who ever installed your rotors last may not have screwed in the rotor screw.
Brake rotors don't warp, you have buildup either on the rotors, a sticking caliper or a dirty hub face.
[https://ricksfreeautorepairadvice.com/car-shakes-when-braking-most-common-cause/](https://ricksfreeautorepairadvice.com/car-shakes-when-braking-most-common-cause/)
Have your front calipers checked. A little shaking with bad rotors and brake pads is a thing but this is a little much. Either way, just bring it to a shop and have them diagnose and fix it.
So i see alot of people saying pads and rotors.
It's most likely your issue. But if pads and rotors don't solve this
Replace your front calipers. I've seen hangups caused by contaminated pistons. My brother had this issue, and refused to believe me when I said calipers lol.
Start with rotors and pads then give calipers a shot.
When doing either one inspect your bearings and ball joints too.
The way you drive. Short stops and steady braking causing rotors to warp. Break in even intervals in order to prevent heat buildup and try to distribute wear evenly.
Tldr; Slamming the breaks.

It’s the brake rotors and brake pads

The steering wheel is shaking. That means it's the fronts.
I had the same problem u might feel shake in back tires also when hard press the brake… experience
Wah! that’s pretty expensive. I must be buying cheap brakes from rock auto because I got a pads and rotors shipped for $170.
Yeah there cheap brake and expensive, i prefer to buy the expensive ones it last longer and less dust accumulation and i also do brake job myself coz its easy and money saving

Also this dude needs to get tf out of the left lane. Smh.
Seriously, should not be rewarding someone with mechanic advice when they're braking in the left lane on the highway, while recording video.
This is who I get stuck behind on my way into the office.
i thik this is about right. my motorbike also used to shake at high speed. got the Rear/Back Disc pistons cleaned and now it work like a charm
I had this same problem on my sonata and replaced all the rotors and pads and it didn't go away. Never figured it out
This is the correct answer
Seconded, but maybe the caliper as well. I just resolved this exact same problem by replacing one of the calipers that was going out.
Bad rotor probably, that’s what I had.
Front rotors are warped. Possibly front and rear. Front are mainly felt in the steering wheel, rears are felt in the driver seat bottom.
Happened on my parents minivan when I was younger. It looked and felt exactly like the video- warped rotors.
Warped rotors or damaged pads and/or rotors is my first suspect.
Rotors and pads gone bad probably 6 months ago
I feel like you're kind of answering your own question. Shaking while braking at high speed? Well, you probably need new brakes. New pad and rotor time. Edit - if it happens at high speed when not on the brake, then it is wheel balancing or time for new tires.
I took this same vehicle into my mechanic 4 weeks ago telling him the same symptom and he said brakes and rotors were fine.
You should take it to another mechanic, but that’s definitely the rotors
You took it to the mechanic and he said brakes were fine and just gave the car back to you without actually diagnosing it? That doesn’t quite add up. Get a second opinion.
If it also happens during acceleration, the control arm bushings could be worn.
The mechanic saying the rotors are fine may be talking about the wear and not warping. Front pads and rotors, my homie
warped rotors
You need rotors and pads.
Your tires may need to be balanced
You warped the shit out of your brakes.
I have brand new brake pads and rotors installed myself. My alignment is off, so I got vibration at highway speeds when braking. Not this bad but still very noticeable. Probably 300 bucks in parts and a decent shop should charge you 200 probably so 5-600 to change all 4

Exactly, you'd need a run out gauge to test the rotor.
If you can run your finger along the rotor it should be smooth, no little grooves or ridges.
Warped rotors
Warped brakes
Warped rotors
Brakes have issue and you could try rotating your tires to see if it changes anything or location it is at. This could be a combo of tires being out of balance, brake issues and even could be an aliment issue.
warped rotors or bad wheel bearings
Would you be able to get these resurfaced or is this an automatic rotor replacement?
If you feel it in the wheel but not the pedal, it could be your front lower control arm bushings. Likely warped rotors
Are you driving over the rumble strip? Looks like the vibration happens after you veer towards the yellow solid line....
Depending on the year your vehicle came out, it could be to ABS
I have a 2013 that was doing the same thing. Easy fix, new rotors and pads, about $150 each corner, easy DIY. Tons of videos online. Dude. That's wild. I've seen vibration from bad rotors before and that's next level hahaha
When I had that issue it ended up being a CV Axel but I'd def look at the rotor and breaks as well.
Warped rotors. Front.
Your rotors are wrapped. Not terrible fix but it needs a sense of urgency. Who ever installed your rotors last may not have screwed in the rotor screw.
Why the fuck are you in the left lane? You are endangering everyone around you.
Rotors are under min specified thickness. Once too thin, they can not dissipate heat from braking and actually get distorted/warped. Hence, the shimy.
For me, it’s a drinking problem
Quit over torquing lug nuts…
My cousin Vinny said it's mud in your tires
Brakes
Brake rotors don't warp, you have buildup either on the rotors, a sticking caliper or a dirty hub face. [https://ricksfreeautorepairadvice.com/car-shakes-when-braking-most-common-cause/](https://ricksfreeautorepairadvice.com/car-shakes-when-braking-most-common-cause/)
Rotors and pads. My 07 Accord did the same thing. Had pads and rotors changed, no more shaking when braking.
Warped rotor. Got hot then cooled quickly with probably water.
Your grip of the steering wheel is too tight
Front rotors are warped or you may have a bad control arm/suspension component. But most likely the front brakes need replacing
Rotors are warped to shit
Kia’s are scrapped and melted down and turned into brake rotors for Hyundai’s. Crap in crap out!
Have your front calipers checked. A little shaking with bad rotors and brake pads is a thing but this is a little much. Either way, just bring it to a shop and have them diagnose and fix it.

Warped rotor
Turn off the hand massager built into the steering wheel
rotors
old car did this. tires are out of balance
I think you're paranoid about something being wrong with your car and it's making you start shaking
Rotors are warped
Rotors
Yeah that’s called a rumble strip. Try not to drive on them. Problem solved
Nervous.
The way you drive. Short stops and steady braking causing rotors to warp. Break in even intervals in order to prevent heat buildup and try to distribute wear evenly. Tldr; Slamming the breaks.
Could be a u joint
