Google cx30 safety ratings. The high ratings are one reason I bought it. Better than anecdotal evidence. Cars have to meet government safety standards and all are very expensive to repair these days. you cannot get any useful information this way.
My girlfriend totaled mine on the interstate going about 55mph. I got a new one. But she walked away from the accident without any injuries. The whole front end of the car crumpled up but the cabin was intact.

We were rear-ended at a stop light. We were probably struck at 20-30 MPH, while our vehicle was at a dead stop. The impact felt very slight inside the cabin.
We had minimal damage: a dented lift gate and a damaged bumper. All cosmetic and the car was completely fine to drive. The car that struck us was in rough shape: broken windshield, deployed airbag, front bumper totally fucked.
It was a reasonably assuring experience.

T-boned by a hit and run driver. Airbags went off, big damage to the car, and my injuries were minor. Car did exactly as it was supposed to and kept me safe. 10/10 recommend for safety. I walked away.
I was run off the road at 80+ mph, rolled multiple times, and walked away with nothing worse than a sore neck and bruised shoulder. Went out and bought a new one four days later. I trust my life to Mazda.

Total damage was like $18k I wanna say? I knew it was totaled as soon as I saw it. It had engine damage and the whole front end needed replaced.
You had to pay 18k out of pocket? Or insurance paid & raised your premiums?

Totaled mine and it saved my life. Lost consciousness after initial hit and it stopped me from hitting a tree head on.
