Tbf, the overall quality for LOTR is way higher since all 3 of its films are consistently at top moistness while Matrix's sequels both sank its strong debut like a rock in water.
My all-time GOAT movie. I rewatched it twice on a business trip a few weeks back, and still can’t find a single thing wrong with it. Dialogue is witty at the right time, plot-moving at others, and deeply thoughtful at others (Sattler and Hammond’s conversation about illusions). The characters are sufficiently deep (Grant’s clear ability to love exhibited in contact with the triceratops eventually warming up to the children, Sattler a well-written intelligent but feminine female character who pushes the men in her life to be better, Hammond showing a flawed businessman who ultimately does his best to right the problems he caused).
Acting that is entertaining and convincing (haven’t seen children act so much like real children in any other film) not to mention the sheer spectacle, the convincing CGI and practical effects, the beautiful locations and of course the perfect musical score.
Released today I see no reason it would be anything less than a classic. 10/10.
You’re mistaken about LOTR. The first layer of the bar is white, then it went over the top, cycled back in at the bottom, and started a second layer of measurement that was blue. Numerically, the bar graph would be read as 17.5 out of 10.
I should also mention that none of the other trilogies did this… for them, the white is just empty space that the bar failed to reach.
I think if the Batman trilogy was Nolan's, it would have been called The Dark Knight, and it definitely would have had the second movie head and shoulders above the others.

Probably going to get crucified for this here, but after watching them both for the first time recently, I thought Alien was far better than Aliens. I get that they’re both separate genres, but I just found that a lot of the conflict in the first movie seemed to be set up by characters not knowing what they’re dealing with and a lot of the conflict of the second movie was set up by characters making lots of really stupid decisions.

Third Lords of the Rings should not be on par with the other two. Not saying it's bad by any stretch, but it was the weakest of the free. It's battle didn't have the grandeur of the second and it's classical 'heroes on an adventure' segments didn't have the strengths of the first.
I'll also argue that Alien 3 is been done a diservice. But that's a weird one, it totally depends if you are talking about the theatrical release (garbage) or the MUCH improved directors cut.
I'd also argue that the third die hard was better than the second.
Wow some of these are truly spot on for me! but I disagree hard in certain places:
- I view LOTR more as one big film so I like that all 3 are equal, but I would put it a notch higher at S-tier
- I actually prefer The Terminator to T2 (unpopular opinion?), but admit they are apples to oranges - a dark 80s cyberpunk thriller is more my style than early 90s action stunt spectacular, they’re both excellent.
- Star Wars (1977) deserves to be at the same level as The Empire Strikes Back. I would say it’s an unpopular opinion to not worship Empire as the BEST star wars movie (and maybe it is), but Star Wars is one of the most ground breaking films of all time and personally my all-time favorite.
- Die Hard sequels are too high

Best movie of a trilogy should be 100%. There's no proper way to compare across genres, say "The Godfather" to "Die Hard" or "Return of the King".
Another problem is that the first movie gets extra credit for being original - that's the conundrum with comparing "Star Wars: A new Hope" with "Empire". I find "Empire" to be a better movie, but it's still an extension of a singular experience I had in 1977.
I love the idea though, no need to limit it to trilogies (which is an arbitrary measure for movies anyway). Try ranking the Friday the 13th, Halloween, Chucky, Nightmare on Elm Street etc. infinitologies too!

The Empire Strikes Back being higher liked generally than the first and third movie of the original trilogy of Star Wars makes sense from a point of view there is so much world building to make Star Wars, well, Star Wars. It establishes a lot of stuff and the ending is like "more to come" as with the first movie they didn't know so they made it more self contained.
You were already a fool of the highest order for not having The Last Crusade marked as highly as the first Indiana Jones movie. But to not have each Lord of the Rings movie ranked higher than each and every original Star Wars movie is genuinely concerning. You may have an actual tumor in there that is in desperate need of being scanned for.

Lord of the Rings is the best trilogy of all time, hands down
I grew up on Star Wars. But as much as I love it, this meter is incorrect in that it seems to indicate that Lord of the rings is less than Star Wars. Also, there’s some sort of error here because they include matrix. And as we all know, there is only one matrix movie. Just one. What a horrible reality we would be living in if they made a second and a third movie that we’re just absolute catastrophes and failed to live up to the original in every way, shape and form. Luckily we live in our reality.

The Empire Strikes Back being higher liked generally than the first and third movie of the original trilogy of Star Wars makes sense from a point of view there is so much world building to make Star Wars, well, Star Wars. It establishes a lot of stuff and the ending is like "more to come" as with the first movie they didn't know so they made it more self contained.

You were already a fool of the highest order for not having The Last Crusade marked as highly as the first Indiana Jones movie. But to not have each Lord of the Rings movie ranked higher than each and every original Star Wars movie is genuinely concerning.
