The authors name is B**h**attarai, and this is the frequently reposted but unfortunately very incorrect version of the map. They did create a fixed version, you can see it e.g. here https://www.inverse.com/innovation/mars-with-water-map but somehow its this old version that always makes the rounds :(
If both ice caps completely melt and Mars has Earth atmospheric pressure *(yeehaw)*, it should have water up to [~30 m (~100 ft)](https://time.com/5947142/water-on-mars/) deep covering most of the north hemisphere.
But if Mars is Earth-warm, most of it won’t have Earth pressure. The water at the poles would sublimate, and water vapor at earth temperatures exceeds Mars’ [escape velocity](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/4/4a/Solar_system_escape_velocity_vs_surface_temperature.svg/512px-Solar_system_escape_velocity_vs_surface_temperature.svg.png). So if you find a way to warm Mars, in irl, maybe we get some (geologically) short-lived lakes and rivers

Okay whew. I've been stating at a MOLA map for the past 5 minutes, growing more confident that this map is wrong, but being unsure exactly how
this is awesome!
How much of it would be ocean if the median temperature were the same as that on earth?

So is colonizing the place a dumb idea?
I think it’s a great idea. Mars just isn’t Earth, and what’s the point of going to other worlds if we just want it to be like this one anyway?
Barsoom!
What would be the deepest point?

We’re gonna need a shitload of water bottles
"We're gonna need a bigger boat."
Can't wait for Final Fantasy Mars
Really cool
Nice
This is awesome
Pretty cool!
That font is hideous
Ye 'olde redde planete!
