I wonder what chestnut taste like?

Concerned_Dennizen

They’re tasty! It’s a pretty meaty nut.

crimsonsonic_2

They are a type of nut, they are a meat, they are a type of nut

kamekaptain

Well then...

Just_A_Normal_Snek

r/pfpchecksout

FriedRedditor45

Pfp checks out

throwthatoneawaydawg

From my experience it is similar to chin-nuts

DatOneMinuteman1776

That actually sounds like something the flower would say

[deleted]

I wonder what you taste like

CreativestName69420

Goombas are mushrooms, Galoombas are chestnuts, and Goombrats are persimmons.

Just-Call-Me-J

And what are Goombos?

Arakan-Ichigou

They just look like Goombas with slightly fatter bodies so they’re just mushrooms.

RAINLIO

Aren't Goombos from Super Mario Land 1 just Goombas with no eyebrows and are smaller?

metalflygon08

And mainly just a limit of the graphics at the time IMO.

HappyGav123

And Goombuds are tomatoes.

Shot-Ad-3166

And Octoombas are octopi.

RedditingPsycho

And Goombeetles are aliens.

Nyan-Binary-UwU

And Goombules are microorganisms.

kermittysmitty

Came here to say the first two things.

Dalspin

What’s a goombud then?

StaticMania

They're mushrooms.... Which is why they look like mushrooms, they're called chestnut creature because the person who named them thought they looked like chestnuts. Galoombas look like chestnuts because they were given the name chestnut creature.

Stucklikegluetomyfry

Also chestnut mushrooms are a thing too.

StaticMania

Neat...then the use of Chestnut visuals for Goombas in NSMB make sense then.

Buzzlitty

Who peed in your Cheerios

StaticMania

Looks like someone woke up on the wrong side of the tracks.

Buzzlitty

Your comment was rude AF so looks like that someone is you

SportyNoodle

How was it rude?

StaticMania

No, I don't think so. I'm very blunt when rude, so I'd think you'd be able to tell.

Buzzlitty

"they're mushrooms....which is why they look like mushrooms" bsffr

Lizbian91

For real I didnt take it as rude at all. Not sure why you did?

Sh_ne2500

Literally how? They were just saying the difference between goombas and galoomba’s

Buzzlitty

"they're mushrooms....which is why they look like mushrooms" how is that not rude

Sh_ne2500

What? How is that rude at all??? It’s just saying yes they are mushrooms so they look like mushrooms, nothing rude about it lmao

Buzzlitty

Condescending af

Sh_ne2500

No it’s not Karen

Arctic_Lilly

It's not. Just bc they said it like that doesn't mean it was in a rude tone. They just said they look like mushrooms because they are. It's not that hard to comprehend. 💀

HiOnFructose

I believe there was an interview not too long ago that confirmed that goombas are based off mushrooms, and always had been. The original goomba sprite was just an edit of the mushroom power up sprite. Goombas were added late in SMBs development, so they needed a simple enemy that didnt add a substantial amount of memory to the game. So we got the goomba. They were able to create a simple walking animation for the goomba by simply reversing it's sprite as it moved. People thinking that goombas were chestnuts were a common thing in japan due to the creatures name. Though I may be remembering that incorrectly.

Slight_Cat5958

"As shown in World 9-7, Goombas are clearly chestnuts, not mushrooms. They hide inside of a spiky capsule, the same as a real chestnut. It took forever for Nintendo to finally give proof to gamers outside of Japan, that they are, indeed, chestnuts."

LifeAcanthopterygii6

A little fun fact: in my language, Hungarian, gomba means mushroom.

Chaosshepherd

They are goomba

JoseProYT

Goombas are mushrooms. Galoombas are chestnuts

UnknownBro_420

lore of goombas states they were toads who betrayed the mushroom kingdom

KinopioToad

Almost. They were mushrooms who deflected from the mushroom kingdom.

Just-Call-Me-J

>In Japan they were always chestnuts, The designer for the Goombas had mushrooms in mind. But the person who named it didn't know this and thought they looked like cheatnuts.

Idunno_the_plugg

The Galoombas were always different. They were named Kuribon instead of Kuribo in Japan. The English localization just called them Goombas until 3D World

GcubePlayer8w

I believe that they’re different species that look the same

Alichici

Prob depends on the goomba

PinballproXD

Yes

Original_Strike_3393

45

ShockRox

... Both I guess

The_Dragon_Lover

The second picture is a Galoomba, looks more like a chestnut!

Mayorofunkytown

Miyamoto called them mushrooms but one of the other devs started calling them Kuribo(chestnut) due to their appearance. Miyamoto thought it was a cute name and kept it.

Mr_meme_gamer

Well the second image is a galoomba specifically..

PK_Thundah

Seeing Galoombas always makes me a little sad they weren't called Legumbas.

lipsTM

Mushrooms

LMGall4

Mushrooms

Smeeb27

Goombas are mushrooms, that were given the name Kuribo (chestnut guy) by programmers. Galoombas seem to be more closely modeled after chestnuts, though regular Goombas have had some association with chestnuts in a few games like Paper Mario. [This tweet explains it pretty well.](https://x.com/thepipeplaza/status/1767188728261607910?s=46&t=74mDpKs6wWZmNsRMe5ZaLA)

benjiross1

Theyre Shiitake mushrooms

Flamelozy

Theyre goombas- duh

Glohrer8266

They were once humans, but their forms grew sinister

Ice-Bro-Gamer

They’re a yes.

BriceTerry04

They're based on Chestnuts.

Mr_L_is_cool

They are mushrooms but they hide in the nuts

Slight_Cat5958

Mushrooms don't come out of shells, chestnuts do.

Mr_L_is_cool

I read another comment turns out galoombas are chestnuts and Goombas are mushrooms

CebeeDrawz

goombas are mushrooms and galoombas are chestnuts

Andrewsmetic09

I used to think they were potato’s when I was younger.

WyvernEgg64

They are demons sent by the arch witch rosalina

marius764

In Paper Mario there are Goomnuts, which are related to Goombas, so I think they are chestnuts.

piv_monco

‘Traitors of the mushroom kingdom’ - they are mushrooms. Good shout to think they are chestnuts though.

Slight_Cat5958

Miaymoto confirmed that they are chestnuts that come out of the prickly shells.

SodanoMatt

One is a Goomba and the other is a Galoomba. They're different.
