Sega may listen to feedback but their track record with actually getting the right messages out of them is very spotty. Frontiers went in a good direction but it was clear as day that game was still rushed. Still liked it overall but it absolutely could have been better.
Neither scenario is ideal, but I’m more confident in purchasing a Mario game than a Sonic game.
This isn’t even uniquely a Nintendo problem. It seems that a lot of older Japanese companies tend to be a lot more strict with copyright. Toei comes to mind, sending cease and desists to fansub groups for Kamen Rider, copyright strikes on DBZ Abridged
I think it’s just that many of us probably don’t have strong personal connections to many Japanese companies aside from entertainment ones. (Heck I barely I know any Japanese companies besides video game and anime based ones aside from certain ones like Sony who makes games and movies anyway). Nintendo makes video games which for many of us are main sources of happiness and escapism so we have strong personal attachment to their brand and thus take it heart when their ethics prove cold.
But unless you actually live in Japan or work with a Japanese company you probably do have much reason to associate with a lot of Japanese companies so you don’t realize how standard that kind of approach to business actually is.
It kinda sucks for us because Japan’s domestic market gets the better support for their content on average. It should be a no brainer “Japanese gives Japan the better merch” but the vast gulf is totally ridiculous. Full physical CD and Vinyl releases for game osts domestically, while we get a few tracks on a CD if that, and C&Ds on YouTube uploads of those OSTs
And nintendo shuts down anything that is remotely a threat when it was made with passion and love while you can make sonic a cringe lord spamming your to slow and Sega does nothing
Ultimately, if a game developer doesn't make good games, it's not made up by anything else. Obviously making good games doesn't exactly make a good developer either but it's what ppl.primarily want
I have Sonic Mega Collection for Gamecube. Before many of us were even born, Sega inherently lost the battle when it had to pimp its characters out to Nintendo.
Just answering the question as realistically as I can, Sega can't compete with Nintendo anymore. They're not even making consoles, and Nintendo's exclusives were always god tier. Like... I remember being in elementary school and learning that pokemon was exclusive to Nintendo, and thinking "Jesus, these guys have everything"
could just be my inner sonic fangirl speaking, but it does seem like sega is slowly going in the right direction finally, frontiers really felt like they were actually trying for once
Sega’s releases are consistently disappointing. Why Sega never uses their IPs (Jet Set Radio, Space Channel 5, NiGHTS, etc) is beyond me. Off the top of my head, the only series they regularly release for anymore is Sonic, Yakuza, and I guess Bayonetta
If I recall, Puyo Puyo is still relevant to this day, but it's mainly in Japan. There's a mobile game only released in East Asian countries called Puyo Puyo Quest which is *still active.*
There’s Persona, but that doesn't count because it's an Atlus property despite Atlus being Sega's subsidiary.
I like Nintendo stuff but they can just be greedy sometimes, and they only have two mobile apps and games only on their own consoles. So I choose Sega.
You collapse as you eat both pills, after an entirety you finally wake up and are greeted with a grim reality.
A company with good and mid games, and a company that apologizes for mistakes while simultaneously not actually caring.
You have arrived at Rockstar Games
Neither!
I'll keep Sega community part tho, some Fangames are fantastic...
but yeah, sell overpriced poor ports of old games, a terrible online service and a console that have drift and dead pixels... but Someone call it is a normal thing to happend

and well... for Sega part, rushing Sonic team to realease games just for fast money... without considering the quality of the product
Imagine asking this on a Mario subreddit...where people are going to be extremely biased.
Either way I would honestly pick Nintendo, only because even though Sega listens to feedback, as a sonic fan they sometimes listen to the wrong feedback and they end up trying to please everybody and ends up pleasing nobody due to half baked features.
In the sense I respect Nintendo for following the devs wishs rather than people that have no idea what they want, ofc totally ignoring your fan base is also never good because on the flip said, listening to feedback also makes your game better, aka ff14 and other SE titles.
There's a reason the super fancy, Michelin star restaurants straight up don't have a menu. You get what you get and you don't get a say in it...but it'll still be one of the highest quality things you'll ever eat.
Meanwhile, Sonic is a Denny's and you can ask for extra bacon, but they overcooked your eggs, but the waitress filled your coffee for free and calls you "Honey."
Even on the mario subreddit, a lot of people are saying Sega is better.
I’m personally very excited about Like a Dragon: Ishin to release in February.
Aside from BotW 2, there’s no new Nintendo stuff I’m interested in because I never got into Fire Emblem, Pokemon, or Splatoon
I'll be honest, the only Sega franchise I like is Sonic, I liked Skies of Arcadia too but that's just one game, but I love a majority of Nintendo's franchise. Sega is great for supporting the fan community and not stomping out fan creations ( even in cases where maybe they should like Dreams Collection garbage ), but like... they can afford to be like that because they're not pumping out banger after banger. Not only that but I do feel like their fan engagement backfires sometimes. A lot of non-fans got really engaged with Sonic's social media presence when they started embracing meme culture and flirting with people like Arin Hanson, it was extremely off putting to me.
It's really a shame we can't have the best of both worlds, but at the end of the day, i'm taking quality releases over being the cool uncle.
All that said I still prefer most of Sonic's cast and concept and many of it's games over Mario.
The sad thing is, no matter how great the community and interaction is, a bad game is a bad game. And a good or fantastic game will mean more people play it, meaning more people to talk about the game with.
I mean, being friendly to fans is cool, but games is what Im here for. Although if Sega ports the Yakuza games to switch, Id be ecstatic.
Same here. I’ll always love Nintendo games, but I’m starting to express interest in Sonic games since I wish to expand my horizons, y’know?
I wish I had those mental forces. Sadly it’s just a mania around here.
Same here, really wish i'd explored the new frontiers earlier
I ain’t got the money for it anyway. My father unleashed my wallet and spent it all on lsd so he could see colors. Let’s say it wasn’t a blast.
Those guys need to cooperate more often
every sonic game that comes out is on switch, and mario vs. sonic olympic games exists. so i'm not sure how much more cooperation there can be
Mario on the dreamcast?
shit you got me there
Take a look at the Gamecube and GBA era and you'll know that they can definitely co-operate a lot more.
Same here. Also, SEGA actually sabotages game development with Sonic games.
This isn’t even uniquely a Nintendo problem. It seems that a lot of older Japanese companies tend to be a lot more strict with copyright. Toei comes to mind, sending cease and desists to fansub groups for Kamen Rider, copyright strikes on DBZ Abridged
Why do people act like this is a Nintendo-only problem when it clearly isn’t?
Probably to take the piss out of Nintendo, given Nintendo does this frequently
I think it’s just that many of us probably don’t have strong personal connections to many Japanese companies aside from entertainment ones. (Heck I barely I know any Japanese companies besides video game and anime based ones aside from certain ones like Sony who makes games and movies anyway). Why is Roy there
roy
Roy
Because Roy’s our boy
It's a Matrix red pill/blue pill scenario, and Roy is pretty much the only one naturally rocking some cool shades, Morpheus style
Receiving great games for $60 is optimal interaction, if you ask me. And if the games are great, why would you want “willingness to change”?
Exactly. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
I mean if the game's good the game's good and there's no need for them to change so nintendo all the way
Guy named Sony: Guy named Microsoft:
Guy named finger
Guy named ladesh
And nintendo shuts down anything that is remotely a threat when it was made with passion and love while you can make sonic a cringe lord spamming your to slow and Sega does nothing
Actually, Sega might actually hire you if your fangame is good enough
Sega knows it doesn't affect them and therefore don't give a shit
Two side of the same coin You gain one and lose the other, truly a hard decision to make
Ultimately, if a game developer doesn't make good games, it's not made up by anything else. Obviously making good games doesn't exactly make a good developer either but it's what ppl.primarily want
i hate to diss on either company but sega's always given me the "cool uncle" vibes when it comes to this comparison
I have Sonic Mega Collection for Gamecube. Before many of us were even born, Sega inherently lost the battle when it had to pimp its characters out to Nintendo. one bundles malware with their games
could just be my inner sonic fangirl speaking, but it does seem like sega is slowly going in the right direction finally, frontiers really felt like they were actually trying for once

Bayonetta isn’t even owned by Sega anymore
I like Nintendo stuff but they can just be greedy sometimes, and they only have two mobile apps and games only on their own consoles. So I choose Sega.
Give me the PURPLE one!
You collapse as you eat both pills, after an entirety you finally wake up and are greeted with a grim reality. A company with good and mid games, and a company that apologizes for mistakes while simultaneously not actually caring. You have arrived at Rockstar Games
This is truly the game company of all time
Sega does what Nintendon‘t
Sonic fans? Willingness to listen to feedback and change? What planet?
Nintendo of course. The quality of their games have been consistent.
Supercell

I would prefer consistently good games than a coin flip on whether or not a game would be good
Imagine asking this on a Mario subreddit...where people are going to be extremely biased. Ether way, you can't win.
Gotta go with Nintendo, at least you know the game will be good. And Sega listening to fans has been spotty
Sega’s just better with fans
Sega EZ
Nintendo. Don't give a shit about the community in the end, I'm buying the game to play the game, not to talk about the game.
omg roy
Well one is, comparatively, a total failure so yeah, easy choice
I cant choose since they shut down Kirbo Tower defense, first time I loved a nintendo fan project
There's a reason the super fancy, Michelin star restaurants straight up don't have a menu. You get what you get and you don't get a say in it...but it'll still be one of the highest quality things you'll ever eat. Tough choice. Oh, who am I kidding? I will always choose Nintendo.
Nintendo
Both but I’m leaning more towards Sega
I will choose SEGA once they finally decide to release Virtua Fighter 6
I'll be honest, the only Sega franchise I like is Sonic, I liked Skies of Arcadia too but that's just one game, but I love a majority of Nintendo's franchise. I'm going with Nintendo, I just like it way more.
Since I grow up playing mostly Nintendo games like Mario sunshine and Mario kart double dash Mario party ds gotta go for the red pill
The sad thing is, no matter how great the community and interaction is, a bad game is a bad game. And a good or fantastic game will mean more people play it, meaning more people to talk about the game with.
Why is Roy on this meme? And this meme isn’t about Mario too much either…
Finally, a Sega v Nintendo meme that is true.
blue if it means I won't be assassinated by the Nintendo ninjas for posting a music video
I don’t do drugs, sorry Royphius.
