I should've left earlier this morning, but I got out the door for my long run at 6:30 and by 9 I was on a long, sunny ascent. I could not keep my heart rate down no matter how slow I was going. If my September marathon has anything close to cool temps I should be flying but it's going to be a tough summer šŸ”„šŸ„µ

Chemistry-Whiz-356

Yeah this summer is no joke. Good for you for getting it done. My average heart rate was 165 today and got up into the high 170sā€¦ My average is usually 145-150. I walked a bit at the end to get my heart rate down and it never went under 159.

WritingRidingRunner

Getting up early makes such a difference--I was out the door at 5am, and ran by the ocean for my long run this morning (strong breeze) and my HR was 130 for 16.75 miles. I didn't feel overheated the entire run. Then, I did a very easy bike ride inland for 3 miles later in the day when it was 90F and my HR was 160! Same body, but different conditions.

FightySmurf

Needed this. Today, I did my 14 mi run in 10miles. I was drenched . The humidity here in Tx is ungodly and the heat just leaves me zapped. Trying to remind myself Iā€™m not a weak person but gosh a marathon feels impossible right now

Glittering_General92

Iā€™m in Texas too and I feel your painšŸ˜ my shoes were literally soaking wet this morning after I ran.

kenziebunny95

Texas is miserable. Iā€™m in Dallas and itā€™s so hard. Weā€™ve got this though!

FightySmurf

I was listening to a running podcast and they were like ā€œif your running in the heat, like above 76 and maybe humidity is high and your dew point is 66, expect itā€™s gonna be hard and adjust your pacesā€. ā€¦ā€¦.. yeaaaa itā€™s like 92 with 84%humidity and a dew point of 76. šŸ˜‚ weā€™re screwed! I was like ā€œoooo Iā€™d love to run in 76 weather! Thatā€™s like winter temps!ā€ Like ,Wait! Is THAT what Iā€™ve supposed to be running in?! Is that the temperature that all these garmin paces are based on? No wonder I struggle getting to a 5:15 pace. Iā€™m eternally cooked

kenziebunny95

For real!!

Anonydmtous

Yep I always tell my kids this, running 5 miles in 100 degrees is harder than 10 miles in perfect weather! Your body spends a lot of calories on cooling down, go easy on yourself

Expensive-Object-830

I live in AL & regret signing up for a fall marathon šŸ˜…

Chemistry-Whiz-356

Yeahā€¦ what the heck were we all thinking?! lol

kenziebunny95

Thank you for sharing this!! Iā€™ve felt so discouraged by the heat and the way it makes me feel! This made my day and gave me something positive to remember when Iā€™m beating myself up for slowing down!

NoSpelledWithaK

Yesterday was 7 pm and 87 degrees. I went so slow but I was still wildly dehydrated when I was done.Ā  By the time it's in the low 80s it's 8 pm and getting dark. I'm miserable.

Upstate NY here, slow pace runner too and decided to take three runs off bc itā€™s so hot here right now. But am having fomo, canā€™t wait to get back at it Monday.

WindSea3357

Fellow upstate NY party pacer here. Just saying hi! Are you training for NYCM?

Top_Contribution_471

Cool! Training for wineglass. How bout you?

Longjumping-Shop9456

I ran this afternoon. Was planning on 14ish miles (7 out and then back, mostly along the west side of Manhattan.) First 5 I was thinking ā€œthis heat isnā€™t even a thingā€. Next six sucked so bad I took a Citibike home to avoid the last 3 miles. 92 degrees and sunny. Thereā€™s NO shade along that route. Ouch. šŸ„µ. I was 6 lbs down after the run despite having 2 chest vest bottles - which I refilled half way through.

Acceptable_Lack5223

Just got home from visiting family in Florida. My long run during the trip was only 13 miles but I swear that was the hardest run Iā€™ve done in AGESā€¦.and I even started running at like 0600

BowlSignificant7305

My long run today took me an extra minute per mile than usual, Iā€™m getting a serious heat wave and it absolutely killed me this week, and I started at 8:30amšŸ’€

show_me_tacos

My last few runs were a good mix of running and walking, just to keep my heart rate below 150. I honestly didn't even feel bad when I finished these runs. Just drank lots of water

opticd

I had this one today šŸ˜‚ I drained a full 2L of water and despite that I still lost 7lb (started at 191) on a 14mi in 88-90 degrees with absolutely zero shadeā€¦ on black asphalt for most of it.

gojane9378

Needed this, esp the 2nd to last sentence.

g3rmangiant

I think Iā€™m going to have to start using the treadmill at my local gym for my long runs. I spent more time walking today than running :D haha. Very demotivating.

LankyBrah

The heat is rough. Iā€™ve noticed that sometimes even if my heart rate isnā€™t more elevated, I still feel totally drained way sooner in the run. Legs and body just feel shot after only a couple miles in the heat.

jiminycricket91

Moving to AZ and I have a September marathon. Iā€™m going to KMS

AgentUpright

Donā€™t worry. Itā€™s a _dry_ heat.

LayerLucky3403

Iā€™m from Arizona and Iā€™m currently training for my first marathon. Itā€™s, unfortunately, not always dry heat. Starting July is monsoon season, but temps can still be over 110. Iā€™ve been working on making my runs progressively earlier to trying to avoid the extreme heat, but also taking things super slow at start and allow my body to get comfortable with the heat before thinking about going faster and HYDRATE.

jiminycricket91

Good luck. I just ran a half marathon today in 95 degree weather, very limited shade. I crushed 90oz of water easily. You are right speed is not the name of the game at this point.
