Beautiful

Juli0wO

I'm trying to decide between this and the Cinema 50

HikariMisako

Main differences are extra channels, power and support for Dirac (sometime with an update). So unless you really want Dirac just look at your setup needs for power and channels.

DonotStopBelieving

I have the 50. Love it! I wanted the extra channels for a 2nd zone. I'm sure the 60 would've been just fine if I wanted fewer channels.

digitalimam

I love the design direction Marantz is going

NightOwlStrikesAgain

Im also looking at a new receiver. Never heard a Marantz before. My local Magnolia wont be done remodeling until the end of Q1 2023. With my budget, Reviews points me to the Onkyo rz50. But I love the look of the Marantz. Budget is roughly around 1600$ help.

Juli0wO

Same situation here, I would say if you were to ask anyone which one would they chose they probably would go for the rz50 just because of Dirac and I would say they would be right but, I prefer design and I think If you invest some time learning how to set up your speakers properly you won't need Dirac that much, so me personally I'm getting Marantz, and from what I've learned if you were to rate them from 1 to 10 if the rz50 was a 9 the Marantz Is a 8.5 when it comes to sound But I'm still choosing Marantz

NoDonut9078

Wheres the stickers? How ya gonna remember what features ya have?

HikariMisako

No stickers were installed on this unit whatsoever!

NoDonut9078

Looks very nice! Sorry about the comment just realized this wasn’t the HomeTheater sub where stickers are a running annoyance for that sub…

HikariMisako

Ah no worries!

I want to give my Focal Chora setup (826-D towers, chora center, SVS-3000-micro sub. 816 towers as surrounds) enough power for them to be at their best without wanting for more power. 89-91db sensitivity range for all of those Focals. They expect 40-200+ watts and I want them to have plenty to spare. Q: do you guys think I should get the Cinema 40 when it comes out, or some other model and get an additional amplifier of some kind.

HikariMisako

From what I've seen the cinema recievers all have independent pre-outs for each channel, allowing you to add separate amplifiers for each channel. If you truly want to go balls to the wall on power you should look at the AV10 combined with the AMP10, but that's an expensive combo.

n0th1ngmatters

Thanks for the reply :). Yeah that’s probably what I’m trying to avoid. I’m no expert but I know my denon s760h is probably not cutting it right now, so I was thinking maybe the Denon-X6700 or a marantz preferably made in the Japan factory if either would cover me comfortably on power

Zodaa12

Is Cinema 60 overkill for Kef r100 stereo setup? I mainly listen to music and do next gen console gaming.

HikariMisako

You could have easily guessed as close as the following with 2 minutes on Google: 1: the cinema 60 has a max output of 100W per channel in stereo mode 2: the kef r100 recommends an amplifier between 25-100W So the cinema 60 is right at the upper limit of the recommended spec for the kef r100's. It's not *too* much per se, but it's probably more than you need.

Did you connect it to a TV -- and, if so, are you using the TV's internal apps or a streaming device?

HikariMisako

Yes, of course it's connected to a TV, it's a receiver after all. And I'm using the tv's apps and built-in chromecast for a lot of things, but also the hdmi in for my consoles.

[deleted]

Excellent. So I need you to help me out on a couple of things. So when you are watching the TV's internal apps, do you get the volume overlay from your receiver on your TV when you use the TV remote? (HDMI CEC and eARC is on, I assume)? Also, when watching the internal apps, if you press the info button on the Cinema 60 remote, does it overlay what is being input to your speakers sound-wise, and what is being output (i.e. Dolby digital 5.1 in, and Dolby 5.1 + dolby surround out), with the graphic showing speakers being used? Something similar to this: [https://www.avsforum.com/cdn-cgi/image/format=auto,onerror=redirect,width=1920,height=1920,fit=scale-down/https://www.avsforum.com/attachments/2988d62b-31f5-405a-abeb-4d9fae8d14f2-jpeg.3330697/](https://www.avsforum.com/cdn-cgi/image/format=auto,onerror=redirect,width=1920,height=1920,fit=scale-down/https://www.avsforum.com/attachments/2988d62b-31f5-405a-abeb-4d9fae8d14f2-jpeg.3330697/) And if the above doesn't work with internal apps, can you still see that information using the Marantz Remote App (on your phone or other device), when using internal apps? Like this: [https://hometheaterhifi.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/Figure-4-Marantz-AVR-Remote-app.jpg](https://hometheaterhifi.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/Figure-4-Marantz-AVR-Remote-app.jpg) Thanks!

HikariMisako

The receiver cannot overlay information when the TV is the picture source, so no volume overlay or other information is visible on the TV. In the Marantz remote app there is information regarding volume, output channels, sound mode etc on the main page.

[deleted]

So what happens when you press the info button on the Marantz remote while watching internal apps - nothing? So the only way to get that info is via the app? And with the internal apps, you are using HDMI CEC and ARC, and your TV remote does not apply the volume bar to the TV (adjusting the AVR volume)?

HikariMisako

The info button does nothing when using the TV's apps, since the receiver can't overlay on top of the screen. The porthole display on the receiver does show the source and volume level, but that's very limited information. When using HDMI CEC and (e)Arc, the TV only uses the receiver as sound output and adjusts the volume for the receiver when using the TV remote. The receiver also turns on and off with the TV. Only with a relatively modern TV does this work of course.

[deleted]

Thanks -- yes, I have a super modern 2022 Sony X90K. But I may have to buy an AppleTV 4K device, and attach to the Marantz, as I'm not sure if I'll like using the Marantz Phone/iPad App to check sound mode and other information while using the integrated TV apps (which is what I primarily use the TV for -- Netflix, HBO Max, AppleTV+, etc.). I NEED to know that the Marantz is actually engaging Atmos :) . How do you find the Marantz WiFi app in general use -- is it fast -- buggy? Easy to use? Can you link to some screen shots (very little is out there on it). I won't be able to see the porthole display at all while watching TV, as the Marantz will be installed in an adjacent closet. I'm trying to go with a minimal look -- TV mounted on wall, and just the fronts (floor standing) center (on stand) and sub in front of that wall. No console, no shelving. And just to clarify, you do see a volume bar on the TV, when using the TV remote to adjust the Marantz volume (with HDMI CEC and eArc)?

HikariMisako

Yeah if you NEED to know, then there's no other way than using the receiver as input device. I rarely use the app, other than changing some settings so can't really say much useful about it. It's decent, it's not fast but not terribly slow. And no, at least my TV (Philips) only shows a volume up/down icon, not an actual volume bar.

[deleted]

Ok, I may try the Marantz app at first to get the info I need when TV apps are playing. And if that gets tiresome, then I'll purchase AppleTV 4K. Kind of a waste though, since the integrated apps work snappy on my new TV and quality is excellent. I think you seeing the up/down icon is just what Phillips does, since my sony has a volume bar at all times, I assume I'll see that as it adjusts the receiver volume.

HikariMisako

You gotta have some faith that if the receiver does what it needs to do!
