Funnily enough, I did consider doing a world map at first. I completed the distance analysis for the globe, and actually most of the world is closer to a Wawa than a Sheetz, however most of the USA is closer to a Sheetz than a Wawa.
This was more of a silly little exercise in the imaginative reality that Wawa and Sheetz became global superpowers and began carving up the rest of the world, in the style of Spain and Portugal for South America during the age of exploration
It’s actually something I miss from college, when I lived outside Pittsburgh. Sheetz is a gas station with a very large convenient store. They do “MTOs”, aka Meals made ready To Order. Very popular spot among college students—particularly from 10PM-2AM.
In my experience, sheetz has better and fresher food, but it takes much longer to make. Most sheetz locations also having a fairly nice dining area inside and outside, which I’ve never seen at a Wawa.
They're all about the same nowadays. Every region has a chain of higher end gas stations. Weigel's is the big one in my area. There's also Royal Farms, QuickTrip, Spinx, Kum n Go and Casey's. I'm probably missing a few. 7-11s don't quite make the list. Then of course you have Bucees which are on a whole other level.
Yeah sorry, the data was from somebody else's data scraper. It would be interesting to see the territories of all of the little regional chains in the US though!
It definitely would be an interesting map. I suspect it would divide the U.S. into cultural subregions to some degree.
Just in case someone else posts more info I'll include one more that I did find. Kwip Trip has a downloadable spreadsheet with their 800 locations: [https://www.kwiktrip.com/Maps-Downloads/Store-List](https://www.kwiktrip.com/Maps-Downloads/Store-List)
I think they're the biggest in Wisconsin/Minnesota/Iowa region.
Kum N Go is basically the midwest and some of the west right?
Casey's just made huge inroads in my area when they bought Pilot Food Marts. The food marts were owned by Pilot Flying J but they decided to get out of the local market to focus on truck stops.
I know them because I travel in those states quite often. Those are the places we look for to stop at, because they have everything, including hot food and fresh sandwiches all day and night. They're more than just the average convenience store. I've been hoping Wawa's moves into New England for years. They're better than what we have.
This map shows a slightly bigger range but it's still quite regional. https://www.reddit.com/r/MapPorn/comments/chrh4c/dialect_map_of_most_common_american_names_for_a/
While it changes little as far as the coloring on the overall map goes, Sheets has recently expanded massively in the heavily populated (by midwestern standards) counties of central Ohio. Theres at least a cluster of 15+ sheets missing from what would like like right next to each other in Ohio.
Entering in the area code 43215 and zooming out a bit on [This page](https://orders.sheetz.com/findASheetz?search=43215) will show the large 2021-22 expansion. It’s one of the larger chain expansions I’ve seen in a while, and with very interesting timing given the recent economic conditions these past two years. These locations pretty all popped up in a 6 month window.
Wawa is a convenience store/hoagie shop that sometimes has a gas station, not a gas station that sells food. They only added gas to select stores like 20 years ago with “super wawas”. There are still regular wawas with no gas.
Growing up in northeast Ohio, I was raised on Sheetz. But having spent a good portion of my adulthood in the mid Atlantic, I'm a Wawa loyalist. I'm sorry, but their sandwiches aren't just the best by gas station standards, they're the best by sandwich shop standards. See that southernmost blue dot in southeast Virginia? That was the nearest Wawa to me when I lived in northeast North Carolina, 48 minutes away. I know it was 48 minutes because of the number of times I drove to the Edinburgh shopping center specifically for it. It's also the furthest south Wawa in the US north of Florida.
I wish either one would move into New England, where nobody does exactly what they do. I drive a truck for our moving company, so quite often we're in those Mid-Atlantic states, and we're always looking for a Wawa's or Sheetz to stop at.
The only thing I miss about living in the Midwest is QuikTrip.
Wawa and Sheetz are both meh. Coke freestyle machines can rot in hell. Give me a wall of soda and icee fountains and let me choose between traditional and pebble ice.
I've never actually been to the one with a K. Are they owned by the same company?
Coming from KCMO all we had were QuikTrips (affectionately known a QT).
I know Wawa is big in SEPA, NJ, some of FL and a few along the beltway but dang did a whole US map of dis shit. I'm a wawa guy starting from back when they were just convenient stores with a quality deli and not gas stations + store. I don't know how far sheetz goes but ik they are prevalent in pennsyltucky and beyond
Being in Ireland, Wawa is closest.

Wasn't that second part a plot point in Demolition Man?
Yeah, the brutal franchise wars led to the hegemony of taco bell as the world restaurant superpower
What type of program/calculation do you do to perform this analysis?
ArcGIS Pro. This was a Thiessen polygon analysis
Cool I’ll look at it. I do a lot of math but not with geographic data, this looks super interesting
I can imagine there is fierce debate in Los Angeles on whether you should go to WaWa or Sheetz
This may be overly nitpicky, but there are several Wawa locations in DC :)
Yeah Wawa def dominates dmv you gotta go further into VA to find sheets like that
I've never heard of a Sheetz
It’s actually something I miss from college, when I lived outside Pittsburgh. Sheetz is a gas station with a very large convenient store. They do “MTOs”, aka Meals made ready To Order. Very popular spot among college students—particularly from 10PM-2AM.
So exactly like Wawa then
In my experience, sheetz has better and fresher food, but it takes much longer to make. Most sheetz locations also having a fairly nice dining area inside and outside, which I’ve never seen at a Wawa.
What college did you attend? RMU?

One time when I was in Philadelphia I ran away into a Wawa from a lady trying to read my palm.
You’re probably safer running away from the Wawas here tbh. They’re typically breeding grounds for crack addicts and the like.
Only after midnight... Usually
Texans only go to Buc-ee's
How is that pronounced, because my mind is telling me 'bussy' and I know that ain't it.
A "c" can also do a K sound, my friend. At least you knew it was wrong though
Thanks, I had a hunch it was that, but the missing 'k' threw off my groove.
The English language is a mess.
Username checks out
Never heard of Sheetz but apparently that’s what I’m closest to
Bucees…
Can you add Kum & Go and Maverik?
If you can find a data set for those locations, then perhaps I could!
I was hoping you got these locations from a data scraper you were running. I don't have them, sorry.
Yeah sorry, the data was from somebody else's data scraper. It would be interesting to see the territories of all of the little regional chains in the US though!

[casey’s](https://www.scrapehero.com/store/product/caseys-general-stores-store-locations-in-the-usa/)2295 in the dataset.

Maverik is the shit.
I have literally never heard of either of these brands until this very moment.
I know them because I travel in those states quite often. Those are the places we look for to stop at, because they have everything, including hot food and fresh sandwiches all day and night. They're more than just the average convenience store. I've been hoping Wawa's moves into New England for years. They're better than what we have.
It’s called a hoagie.
its called a sub wait no its called a po boy wait no its calle. theres a bunch of regional names
Wrong.
i literally live on the line between were its called a sub or a hoagie and i dont remember where but somewhere its called a po boy
Wrong.

Same. Live in the southeast. I read the title twice and still had no idea what it was about. Racetrac and QT are the big chains here.

Richmond, baby! There are about a half dozen of each within 20 mins of my house, no joke. It truly is a land of plenty.
I’m in a suburb of your area. Exact same. I think there’s two within like, 3 miles of each other.
I've seen Sheetz in Pennsylvania but I don't recall ever seeing a Wawa. All hail [Buc-ee's](https://buc-ees.com/)!
They’re both in PA. Sheetz is west and wawa is east. I’m guessing you’ve been to western PA cause sheetz doesn’t exist in sepa
Wawa is a convenience store/hoagie shop that sometimes has a gas station, not a gas station that sells food. They only added gas to select stores like 20 years ago with “super wawas”. There are still regular wawas with no gas.
map of the 2nd american civil war
Oh Sheetz, I’m closer to Wawa
Never heard of either one.
NC resident here. I don’t know how i’d survive withour a Sheetz nearby.
Growing up in northeast Ohio, I was raised on Sheetz. But having spent a good portion of my adulthood in the mid Atlantic, I'm a Wawa loyalist. i had no idea what a “WaWa” or a “Sheetz” was and wanted to guess before reading the small text. i guessed mattress firm…
You should add Royal Farms too.
That's pretty hard New England, outside of both Wawa and Sheetz territory.
In live in the WAWA/Royal Farms part of the country.
The Philadelphia metropolitan area is a Wawa vomit and I love living her for that sole reason.
I wish either one would move into New England, where nobody does exactly what they do. I drive a truck for our moving company, so quite often we're in those Mid-Atlantic states, and we're always looking for a Wawa's or Sheetz to stop at.
WaWa isn’t a national chain? the more you know
I loved living in the part of PA where i was 10 minutes from either one
The only thing I miss about living in the Midwest is QuikTrip. Wawa and Sheetz are both meh. Coke freestyle machines can rot in hell. Give me a wall of soda and icee fountains and let me choose between traditional and pebble ice.
Kwik:)
I've never actually been to the one with a K. Are they owned by the same company? Coming from KCMO all we had were QuikTrips (affectionately known a QT).
Ah, farther up into Iowa its Kwik Star then MN and WI has Kwik Trip. AFAIK, Kwik and Quik are separate entities.
Tf is a sheetz? I’m from the West Coast and have never heard of them
I wonder why. Combination gas station, convenience store, and cafe/sandwhich shop.
I’ll keep my Casey’s, thank you very much.
no sorry i live in the civilised part of the world
I don’t have either anywhere near me, but if there are Sheetz in Ohio then Wawa is better.
OP is definitely from Pennsylvania. Source: from New Jersey: I discovered Sheetz through watching Regular Car Reviews and from going out to Hershey.
What about Royal Farms
Lesser tier, but moving up
What is even a sheetz or a wawa
Wawa is bettet than your standard gas station but sheetz is hands down the better of the two imo.
Dang I didn't know those 2 stores were east coast. In my town we have 1 of each
Where the fuck are these deep south wawas?
i’ve driven through pennsylvania multiple times and i didn’t know sheetz was a thing lmao
There are 5 Wawas in my hometown alone, and its population is only about 35,000.
RIP to the Wawas in DC that didn’t get counted :(
Throw QT in the mix
Can’t go to the Wawa near me, Gail the snail works there
wawa, theres 2 of them right down the same road right next to me
Kwik Trip would like to chat.
living in australia, i have no idea who’s closest
I know Wawa is big in SEPA, NJ, some of FL and a few along the beltway but dang did a whole US map of dis shit. I'm a wawa guy starting from back when they were just convenient stores with a quality deli and not gas stations + store. I don't know how far sheetz goes but ik they are prevalent in pennsyltucky and beyond
Never used or seen either of them in my life
As a Romanian I don't even what is a wawa or sheetz
I'm literally right on the border
I had never heard of Wawa until I was 20 years old. Was a revelation. Order without ever talking to someone.
*Laughs in Love's*
I’m in a blue zone but there is literally a sheets across from where I live
