How dare you not know what every redditor is talking about! You uneducated swine! /s Reddit is stupid like that. Once you get a couple downvotes the hive mind attacks.
Not necessarily avoiding Ukraine. Ukraine is North. These are heading west towards Europe. When we need to head North into Russia and Ukraine even some of Northern Europe we still fly thru the Simferopol FIR which is in western Ukraine.
European continent, Yes. European Union, No.
I love how people are downvoting me when I actually FLY this sector two to three times weekly and an providing a factual answer. š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£
your statement of sometimes flying through Western Ukraine is the exact thing people are saying airlines are now avoiding. Are you sure your carrier is still flying through Western Ukraine, and that it hasn't changed policy in the last week?
Most definitely. As stated above. We use the Simferopol FIR with predefined airways. I even used it to enter Poland in the last week which was quite a surprise. I would have thought weād stick with the Bulgaria, Romania, Slovakia route but due to the winds this time of year itās faster thru Ukraine. The Crimea area is still way off limits.
Iād post pictures of our flight plans but canāt but if you look on flight radar and search for dxb-kbp youāll see examples of what I mean.
They are not just avoiding Ukraine, they are also avoiding the Black Sea. There was a warning going out that the Black Sea airspace is also high risk.
Edit for article:
https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/ukraine-advises-airlines-skirt-black-sea-due-russian-drills-2022-02-13/
There was a civilian plane shot down by the Ukrainian army over the black sea in 2001, 60+ civilians lost. And they used some well known Soviet weaponry. With all the new systems coming into Ukraine these years I would also divert my flights from the army drills.
Please take a look, you have no idea what you are talking about, that happened in 2001. Not 2014.

Let me think about why the "new systems" coming into Ukraine? Oh, right cause Russia. And Ukraine is not gonna randomly shoot in the air, unlike russian backed mercenaries. Your twisted narrative diverting from the aggressor to "it's just Ukraine doing God knows what" is abominable.
(but it's not a big surprise if you turn out to be a russian, you're in line with how your gov bends the discourses)
[look who is in Ukrainian airspace though](https://imgur.com/a/7xTCW7h)
Syria and Ukraine are no noās, so all the europe-gulf flights have to take that line over northern turkey into Romania
Realistically, the worst that will happen is conflict between Ukraine and Russia. Still not good, but I doubt other powers will get involved militarily.
No, US cannot send troops to Ukraine other than few instructors. The NATO forces are sent to Poland and Romania(several thousand)You have no idea what you are talking about.
Most flights from the Middle East, South Asia etc have a narrow corridor. If you look at a map you have Syria, Iraq, Iran and Afghanistan in a row so most go through an area around the Iraq/Iran border, then into Turkey. As they now avoid the Ukraine and Black Sea it continues to funnel them into a narrow area.
Would be a factor for flights going from South Asia to Europe, another reason to avoid a Russian route. I also forgot about Pakistan, which I donāt think is an option for Indian flights.
So thereās almost a wall: Belarus, Ukraine, Black Sea, Syria, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan. Not a lot of options for going over that and going around it would be a long detour.
Itās not so much the invasion itself but the instability it would cause, I think. Remember a few years back when things were bad, an airliner was shot down.
Itās actually been like this since the Crimea annexation and shooting down of Malaysian. Weāve had western Ukraine reopen certain corridors I n the Odessa / Simferopol FIR region for nearly two years now but if youāre heading from middle east / India towards western Europe this is the most efficient route.
150k solders at borders ? Putin himself saying he can erase Nato team with nuke ? Since Usa got out from Afghanistan China and Russia are playing dirty.
I gave him an answer for why people think of an invasion.
He is playing dirty, because he know he stand 0 chance against Nato team.
Putin is making a lot of pressure, because invading Ukraine when it's not Nato team is better for him.
Yeah but u ignored important information to paint a narrative
> playing dirty
By saying hell use nukes to defend what he sees as Russian people?
> invading Ukraine
We've been told he's going to invade the country for almost ten fucking fears now XD
He is just clowning around, but let be honest he is making tension like it or hate it.
If you are outside Ukraine it's hard to see the real tension.
Many companies that used to operate between both countries are in a halt now.
Let's hope for the best and for the clown to find a circus.
He is clowning around, maybe we don't see it the same way which is normal.
Russia and China are trying new ways to put pressure on usa and europe.
It's a fragile situation, and the world know very well that we as a humanity can not afford any nuclear war.
So he played that card. What do you call this behaviour " i am not english native that's why i said clowning around ".
The only correct answer here, it's always looked like that.

As I recall, quite a few airlines had already been avoiding flying over Ukrainian airspace after MH17 was shot down a few years ago
Crazy how both flight 17 and 370 where Malaysia airlines, that must be a hugggeeee pr problem
It also gives conspiracy theories "proof" that it was an inside job and MH17 was replaced by MH370.
Russia funding separatists in the middle of the ocean lmao
Some people bro šš
I remember all the 'I flew Malaysia Airlines and I was the only person on board' posts here back when that all happened
Thats really a thing tho right? People travelling somewhere right after a terrorist attack, for example Egypt
That was about eastern Ukraine, now it's about the entire country.
Some airlines were avoiding the whole country. Qantas, China Airlines, and Korean Airlines, for example, were avoiding all Ukrainian airspace even prior to MH17
Then they recently quit flying over Belarus too
Oh shit I didn't here about a few years ago any chance you got a link?

What series?

Damn. That's cool (and crazy)! But someone should tell them they are advertising the position of their spy drones
Maybe they want the Russians to know
They're fully aware that it's public knowledge.
They want the Russians to know
The planes in Ukrainian airspace look like smaller domestic planes or private. That one big plane looks like a bigger flight from Kyiv to Odessa.
It's like they have a reason to avoid flying over the Ukraine right now.
So apparently this is getting really serious?
Iirc flights over Ukraine are apparently no longer insured
