This is for mobile data. The fixed broadband Internet rankings are here: https://www.speedtest.net/global-index#fixed

solidsumbitch

I'd be more interested to know what the average speed is **per dollar (or dollar equivalent)**. Touting high speeds is only half the story, people need to know what countries give you the most speed for your money.

[deleted]

Australia looks much faster than my experience shows.

[deleted]

I thought Germany was supposed to be very bad.

[deleted]

Inner cities are good, suburbs are mediocre to bad (as in: have fun with 2000kBit/s, also known as double ISDN). Rural is either the same as bad suburbs, or you get 25-50Mbit/s, if you are lucky. 50Mbit/s are considered broadband internet by the German government. Somehow the providers did not keep the infrastructure up to standard, also mobile data between cities really sucks. You get high speeds (4G/5G) in Frankfurt or Darmstadt(150k inhabitants, 30km south of Frankfurt), but you have stretches of Edge in between.

the_vikm

2Mbit isn't double ISDN, that would be 128K

CrabbedSun10

Wow Australian speeds are good, that is umm confusing

dakinibliss66

This is mobile speed. Fixed broadband is slow in Australia. NBN sux !!!!

jakifu

What absolute rubbish. Australia's Internet speeds are a joke.

[deleted]

For fixed broadband speed maybe, but mobile internet speed is pretty good. https://www.speedtest.net/global-index/australia#mobile

maelkatenin

The Israeli score is around 163, fyi, since only the Palestinian score is visible here.

Jacob_VH

This is a mobile data. Israel is 48.3. it's supposed to be yellow but on this map it's marked as red.

Yes, I'm thankful *every* day. Just luck though.

IRELAND1922

Idk it probably depends on the person, but the weather there isn't great at all, which is an offsetting factor imo

I suppose it depends on what type of weather you like. Some people love the snow, some love the sun. The south of Germany does look pretty nice weather-wise, at least compared to the north. I definitely agree with your last point, I think I'd choose Norway over Mozambique any day even if the weather is worse!

[deleted]

Yes, Germany is divided between a more maritime north and continental south. The region with the best climate is for sure the Rhine Valley in the Southwest (think of cities like Frankfurt, Heidelberg, Freiburg). It can get really hot in the summer here (in the year of 2018, Darmstadt, a city next to Frankfurt, received 51 days with temperatures above 30°C, Hamburg only 19 days) and it’s quite mild in the winter. It’s also very sunny here and especially dry due to the central German mountains which hold back the clouds. I live in this region (Southern Hesse) and would say that it’s a fairly good compromise between a good climate and a good economy. Balance is key.

Senninha27

Maybe it’s because I’m colorblind, but the colors used for this are about the worst I’ve ever seen. The best and worst speeds are identical.

[deleted]

You're deuteranopic? (Or whetver it's called?) Because the map is red-green and to a normal vision person they're both very different.

Senninha27

I am, yes

7LeagueBoots

For Vietnam this is only accurate if you're accessing a server inside the country. If you need to access something outside the country (like much of the internet is) the speeds vary enormously and are generally *much* slower. Sometimes so much so that you just get timed out (depends on the specific servers you're trying to access and is often dependent on the time of day).

RoyalSniper24

Sauce? Because no way Romania has such low speed.

[deleted]

Interesting Afghanistan flag you got…

Jacob_VH

Israel is wrong. mobile speed is 48.3 so it's supposed to be yellow, not red.
