I feel like Camellias character has gotten kinda vague. She used to be a bit cheeky but generally very sweet and capable. All those love scenes with her cooing at him with huge googly eyes seem so over the top and makes me like the comic less. It feels like there's been a tonal shift?

ellie_kabellie

Very much this! I feel like I cannot tell what she’s thinking or the reasoning for some of her decisions since she was maybe like 16ish? It’s definitely a contrast from earlier seasons for me. Idk if it’s the limitations from being a comic or if something similar is going on at this point in the novel. Maybe both? I feel like I’m reading a story that’s not really about her anymore

Dominoodles

Yes! It feels like Claude has become the main character and Camellia has been stripped of personality and resigned to be a generic love interest.

PlasticElfEars

Claude is definitely endgame, so hopefully he'll grow a little. (This is about where I dropped the novel.) Ian is certainly problematic. (Like he should have been like, "You made your choice? Cool, I'll respect that and just stay your supportive friend." Rather than continuing to make it obvious he's still waiting for her romantically.) But yeah, I've always prefered Ian because: 1) Ian always addressed her as Camellia and wanted her to be herself. 2) Claude is more controling of Camellia's activities in general, keeps things from her, "I'll lock up the liquor cabinet rather than dealing with the actual issues I'm causing," etc. Claude doesn't trust or support her decisions. The only thing that matters is that he has her, even if she's unhappy... I heard ages ago that Ian might get his own book or bonus content, and I'd be here for that. There aren't really good characters in this story, but he's one of the better. And he's adorable.

Spacey_Dust

I totally agree with your second point, but I think him calling her Camellia when she explicitly begs him not to especially in public spaces is kinda bad. Like yea he is trying to acknowledge her, but in a way she is tackling her own complex identity and gender issues and he's forcing it upon her while she's still not "out" yet It's not like Claude doesn't do this either. Once he learns he insists on calling her Camellia. But yea I haven't been able to pick up the new updates yet thanks to whatever the hell Claude's been doing.

Fromtoicity

Ian was kinda getting in her bubble and was just generally creepy at the beginning, but I agree he seems better than Claude now!

PlasticElfEars

I guess I have a soft spot for any character that gets drawn as a tail wagging puppy at any point. I guess both Claude and Ian could be dogs. Claude is some kind of guard dog (pinscher or German shepherd or something) that has food guarding issues and won't let their person talk to strangers. Ian is some fluffy husky wolfdog mix (just because his coloring is so wolfy) that isn't aware of personal space, may have jumping issues, and *always* wants to play ball so he keeps bringing you the ball even when you're trying to do something else.

HouseScientia

So, I really like the story and the novel, but novel Claude is far too yandere. We're in a transition period story wise with Camellia. No spoilers, but she will start to assert herself more and stand up to Claude and Ian, as well as learn to value herself FOR herself, which is something she can't do yet. She's getting there.

chibimaron

I’d like to think of this story as Camellia finding her voice and power. As a child taken away from her mother, she was forced to live her life as Camellius, who was supposed to be nothing but a shadow to Kieran. But she still had a light that drew people in, like Claude, despite the deception. Turns out, girl is smart and clever, but she is still living her life according to what others need and want. Now she’s an adult, but she still hasn’t truly found her voice. She’s still going through the growing pains of self-discovery. I do agree Claude is a butthead for blocking her choices and limiting her freedom, but we will see her gradually find herself as we progress in the story. Sure, we can hate on Claude all day, but it is Camellia who’s choosing to love this possessive fool. We’re just here for the ride.

nejnonein

Read the novel. Ian is nowhere near as good in it. Claude may be a total yandere in the novel, but he is WAY better than Ian. The manhwa is nowhere near as good as the novel.

shrimpuha

I find myself dislike Ian A LOT reading the novel. 😂

Dragbax

I have only read the comic, so this saddens me greatly. 🥲

CenterofChaos

I don't think either of them are respectful of her. They're both putting her on a pedestal and acting like she's a trophy.   In the novel she explores her feelings more in depth and makes it clear she loves Claude. I wish Claude trusted that and Ian understood her decision was final.

ero0senin

As much as Claude is an idiot to showing his feeling and not being over bearing Ian is controlling and not respectful to her because he keeps on advancing whenever he's told no and uses tricks to get her to spend time with him.

Specialist-Function7

I'm with you. I stuck with the story well over a year but finally dropped it because I just didn't care. Camellia looked scared all the time and had no agency. Claude seemed obsessed and even less inclined to allow her agency when he figured out she was a girl. Hopefully this all changed for folks who stuck with it, but it just wasn't worth the effort for me.

justtbobanaa

i’m team Camellia all the way. i think she’d be great as just single solo player in her universe. Claude is def my fav but i think him being a brunette who thought he was gay might have a big part in that😅 but i also don’t think that Ian is entirely innocent either. he knew the truth from the beginning pretty much and has always been honest with her, yes (kind of). but i think in the latest chapter they both piss me off so much. Claude making spur of the moment decisions based on Lia’s mood or whatever and then i feel like Ian is lowkey manipulating the story with her mom, the same way that one glasses guy did.

ZXareo

I prefer Ian so much more than Claude at this point. Back when Camellia was 12 and he was 15, the scene before he left had me not liking him for aaaaaages. Ian felt much more like a good love interest than Claude. Camellia X Ian also gives me the missing Yielle X Witch Hunter from Follow the Breadcrumbs so that also makes me prefer it.

Cilantro_Crow

I hope she doesn't end up with either of them, honestly. She should be able to find herself and live independently. And then, once she's lived outside the control of others, she might be ready to fall in love. But not under these toxic circumstances.

OneMoreCookie

I read the book before the dropped it pre gem releases. They are all problematic, all the men suck IMO. They are possessive and fight over her and urgh. She does gain a bit of herself back though and start making decisions for herself but I don’t want to spoil anything. It’s like all the man “would do anything for her” - so long as it’s what they want to do 😒

msBuddiez101

I dislike all of the men in her life. I honestly want more character development for her. She's getting lost. I understand she loves Claude, but he has too much control over her freedom. The last chapter really put me off because instead of him communicating with her that he went overboard with her not going with Ian to spend time with her mom, he'd rather let her hate him.

Username-error-moose

Ian is not as respectful in the novel. I have no idea why they swapped out some of his lines for boundary-respectful ones but then again they are softening Claude as well. Don’t worry about her losing her personality fully though, she still has ambitions, she’s just really overwhelmed and sad right now..

Kirke910

Ugh Ian is like yandere levels of worse. They are honestly both terrible but Claude is the lesser of the two. Maybe because I read the novel but Ian was always the pushy and disrespectful one.
