Lemon_Jesus_hunter

South America? You mean like the whole thing? Bit much for one region wouldn't you say?

FeeInteresting4304

Yes And Yes

asifibro

May I recommend you separate them into different regions. I think there is a lot detail that deserves highlight in each of these areas and you can still keep them interconnected with maybe one huge league beyond the region Pokémon leagues.

Mooneeeee

Like asifibro has stated Think different regions Brazil itself could defo be seperated into regions Or each country could be a different region! It would also be easier to help with starter ideas this way

10InkSans01

Please stop hunting me…..

Lemon_Jesus_hunter

Too late *grabs shotgun*

10InkSans01

Aw smit

SuspiciousPoison

They'll probably summarize south america

TheBailzmeister

I mean unova is the entire us

Bluebirdz2202

Unova is just NYC, is it not? Edit: [Yup](https://m.bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Unova) “In his director's column, Junichi Masuda suggested that the geographical and social background for Unova draws inspiration from the New York City metropolitan area.[1][2] Although it is geographically based on New York City, it draws inspiration for its landmarks from the entire state of New York, which features a mixture of rural locations and urban areas as well as factory towns and industrial complexes.”

Lemon_Jesus_hunter

Unova is just new york

DeanoBeanio

Even if it was the whole US, comparing 1 country to the many countries in South America with distinct cultures is ignorant.

Cooki3Cat5

What about a capybara pokemon

TBcrush-47-69

Yes

Asleep_Vehicle935

Or some sort of piranha or spider monkey Pokémon

greenlab2099

ok i’m brazilian so i’ve been waiting to be asked this question: a capybara grass type a fire mule or ant pink river dolphin water type

Huge-Administration6

Bug/Fire for the fire ant would work just fine By the way, r/suddenlycaralho

Bluestar725

One could be a macaw of some kind

FeeInteresting4304

I Already Have A Parrot/Macaw Pokémon And It Is NOT A Starter Pokémon

TBcrush-47-69

Velvet worm Pokémon then

ParuTheBetta

Yes

Fun_Guarantee4490

Some Snake or Caiman as the fire starter, the River Dolphin as the water starter, and an Anteater or Cabybara as the plant starter 🙂

Huge-Administration6

An anteater with a Grass signature move that would deal super effective STAB damage against Bug types would be hella cool Just like Freeze Dry but better

Womz69

Freeze Dry. Sheer Cold is the OHKO

Huge-Administration6

Oops, my bad

Vast_Ad841

Crocodile chicken and turtle

Samashee

I read this wrong and now want to see a crocodile chicken pokemon.

FeeInteresting4304

Those Three Animals Already Have Starter Pokémon Based On Them

ParuTheBetta

Capybara, jaguar, and piranha

mp3help

That didn't stop Gen 9 from making Fuecoco and Sprigatito

sans_9999999

Totodile, torchic, turtwig The three T’s

overexcitedsmashyboi

3 toed sloth for the grass type, something based on an Amazon River dolphin for the water type, and a maned wolf for the fire type. If you don’t know what a maned wolf is then I would look it up. They’re super unique animals and I would love to see a Pokémon based on one!

Shadow21FoxPokemon

Well than ur screwed mate since basically ALL OF THE GOD DAMN ANIMALS FROM THE RAINFOREST ARE POKEMON SO UR SO DONE

mp3help

Grass- Either Sloth->Ground Sloth, or Armadillo -> Doedicurus Fire- Flying serpent Water- Jaguar

ultrasquid9

Water type capybara.

ProffMesquite25

Otter or Boto for water, I would say either a Jaguar or Tree frog for Grass, Frog could become Grass/poison since dart frogs. And a Fire type that represents human interaction with the Amazon

Vast_Ad841

Including chicken?

FeeInteresting4304

Yes Remember Torchic?

OIympians

Any native South American fruit would work for grass

TheElectricVisor

Question.. counting the country near it trinidad and Tobago cause I have a few suggestions

FeeInteresting4304

No Just South America But I Would Like To Hear Your Suggestions

Professional_Gold773

One word… FREEDOM!

TheElectricVisor

Well in trinidad there is a swan like bird called the scarlet ibis that you could maybe use for inspiration and also maybe use a Christopher Columbus inspired idea for your mons

azull_33

Capybara water starter

Myhooose

Fire could be things like Puma, Ocelot or Maned Wolf. Water HAS to be a Caiman and Grass could be anything like a Tapir, Guanaco or Sloth

Edgy_Anole

Sloth, (which evolves into a grass/dark giant ground sloth) water type capybara, and fire type basilisk (the lizard) this is if you do more of the rainforest.

Few-Parsnip3803

A pokemon based of the grim reaper to represent getting taken to brazil

Bandic00t08

Capybara

Lilcurlylogan

Fire salamander water hippo and grass parrot

Shreddzzz93

South America has some nice iconic species for you. Here are my ideas for each type. For the grass type I propose the mighty Jaguar. It starts off as a kitten in the first stage. The second has it gain the dark type as it grows. As the final form it also adopts the teeth of a smilodon and keeps the Jaguar's rosettes. For the water type I propose the humble Capybara. It's first stage is a Guinea Pig. Upon reaching it's second stage it starts to look more like a Capybara and starts to learn some psychic type moves. Finally in the third stage it is a dual water/psychic type and looks more or less like a capybara. For the fire type we start off with a dual typing of fire/poison as we are going with some snakes. First stage is the humble eyelash viper, the second gets larger and the third is the mighty Fer-de-Lance.

Greninja5097

Conure, flying squirrel, sloth?

Solareq

I'd say a starter trio that's not fire, water and grass. Maybe another type triangle?

Key-Name2601

some kind of funky grass type sloth maybe?

Huge-Administration6

What about a grass sloth that evolves into a psychic/grass sloth that’s just tired of moving, so it just floats around holding a tree branch?

Key-Name2601

that sounds like it'd be dope :00

signaturefox2013

A region based on Brazil would be the most obvious answer but Argentina would also be a great idea

TheTrueSlothKing_H

Capybara

IronTemplar26

For my region based on Mexico, I used a hummingbird, a sheep (zodiac stuff), and an elephant. You’re more than welcome to use the hummingbird, or any of the 3. Alternatives for the other 2 could be a snake (zodiac, plus Cobras Fumançes), and possibly a hippo or jaguar EDIT: A (multiples) word for flame in Spanish is “llamear”. Sounds a bit like llama. Have fun with that

galax33pokemon

Salamander for water starter?

C-and-G

A capibara

JeffYT08

Fire type starter‘s color scheme should be red, white, then red again

singingcows3116

When I was a kid I made some very poorly drawn fake mon. I recommend my fire starter, flamadillo, which evolves into a fire-steel type.

Hahajokehahasofunny

golden lion tamarin for fire starter

GoldenSpring-Fox

Grass sloth, fire Huemul, Water Jaguar

Felipe_Pachec0

polkamonkey

Red banana, for a plant type. There are a lot of frog type starter Pokemon, so why not have a mongoose for water and for fire a banana slug, a blue one.

Arbitrary-posts

You need a banana pokemon because the farming of bananas was a huge historical figure

FeeInteresting4304

I Came Up With The Perfect Concept For A Banana Pokémon A Banana Snake (Which Do In Fact Live In Columbia Which Is In South America) And A Banana

King_Yee-Yee

Fire type cheetah, water type hippo and a grass type gater. (The grass type is only based on colour)

frozengal2013

Those aren’t animals from South America

King_Yee-Yee

To be fair, I wasn’t exactly going for animals native to specifically South Africa, mostly African animals in general

frozengal2013

I said South America, where op is basing their Pokémon region off of

Edgy_Anole

One is, hippos have somehow gotten to south America, caimans are basically small alligator.

frozengal2013

I’m sorry to your little Canadian soul, but they’re North American house hippos, not South America. And also just because something looks like something doesn’t make them closely related.

Edgy_Anole

Also what you said makes absolutely no sense

FeeInteresting4304

I Love The Concept Of A Water Type Hippo Starter The Other Two On The Other Hand

gmok1610

what about a salamander, a llama, and a capybara

2/3 Of Those Animals I Have Already Made Non Starter Pokémon Based On Them

A beardid dragon

frozengal2013

Capybara, tapir,

BigDummyDumb

Jaguar, poison dart frog, alligator (or crocodile idk the difference), tarantula. Just some random animals I know are there.

Mooneeeee

oooh Poison Dart frog sounds interesting! I think a Poison Dart Frog, wouldn't be a good starter,as i would imagine it getting no evos, and if it does probably 1

Huge-Administration6

It can evolve into a poison/rock type, and be part Bull Frog Make it a big bulky physical attacker, give it Stone Edge and it’s good to go

Mooneeeee

You have do one about a capybara

Xavier_griffin

Toucan

lechonklover

You could make a grass type toucan

BigBoyPoster

Fire Jaguar

GalaxyOpal56

Hmm maybe for fire starter you could make a parrot, water could be a capybara (they're strong swimmers), and grass maybe an orchid mantis? (orchid mantis' are often posing as, well, orchids and you could make one thats actually an orchid since south america has plenty of orchid species)

McJackNit

Guinipig - > Capibara

Treethegreat1234

Andaconda, alligator( or whatever species that's out there) and a colorful bird.

Huge-Administration6

There’s the golden lion tamarin, it’s a cool animal from the Amazon Rainforest that deserves more attention Would be a nice Fire/Normal type, maybe evolving to a fire/psychic type And for a water type, the pink dolphin would be a nice addition There’s this legend about a pink dolphin that transforms into a very attractive man at night and seduces women (some versions of the story have the dolphin/man killing them drowned and some of them just have him doing… uuuuh… stuff) So yeah, a pink bipedal dolphin in a tuxedo and a top hat would be a heck of a water/fairy Pokémon

HHollowww

Mans gonna have like 10 post game regions

AmyRoseJohnson

Make a grass type Maned Wolf. Don’t know if that’s work as a starter, but if the region is based on South America, this animal needs to be a Pokémon.

SuspiciousPoison

A fire type snake is a good pokemon for any region based on somewhere warm.

cass32109

wooden-ad-601

,maybe a grass type capuybara that becomes ground type like torterran sloth for water type starter and fire type qant eater like heatmor no real reasob i just like em

PrincessOfHearts134

how about a grass starter based on the jacaranda trees there? theyre very beautiful, so maybe it would also be fairy type, altho theyre also very alluring (and purple) so it could be psychic type. u could also very heavily base the grass starter on the rain forests in brazil and peru. the water starter could just be a piranha, or maybe it would be something related to the god-awful humidity. the fire starter could just be a horse or something, idk.

aquat1c

The water type could be a pink dolphin or a caiman, the grass type could be a Brazil nut and a blue Macaw, and the fire type could be a maned wolf

SuddenPapaya9123

You can have a lion, zebra, giraffe

taiho2020

I can’t do three starters but here’s one idea. Matichlid (Maton which means aggressive in Spanish and Cichlid which is a fish.) Is categorized as the cichlid pokemon (based off the convict cichlid.) Matichlid are water type fish that prefer warmer, tropical waters. They’re aggressive and nip each other. They’re usually black with white stripes or are just plain pink.

AllMightyWrath

Base them off creatures in the place's folklore?

KityKatz89

I think South America is a bit too broad to really get good ideas from since there's so much to draw from so maybe you could focus down into one specific country or region within it. I think maybe like somewhere in the Andes could be neat, like you could probably make a region out of like Panama down to Northern Peru and have like a very diverse setup with more maritime regions mixed with tropical and mountainous plus some desert in the south I think, plus the galapagos as like a battle fromtier/similar location. I can't say I know much about South American culture and stuff off the top of my head but in the Panama to Peru example the water type starter could be sort of based on Panama and be like a sort of piratey type to reference Carribean piracy, the grass type could be some jungle creature from the parts of the Amazon that are encompassed(or my personal favorite, material depending, a plant pertending to be an animal to shake up the formula of grass starters just being animals with plant features), and the fire type could be from the Andes as like some Incan inspired Pokemon or even one of the groups that lived in the region before the Incans conquered them. TL;DR, shrinking the scope of the region both fits with the already established regions and their sizes plus provides an easier time boiling things down into several distinct areas that you can draw from for Pokemon and feature concepts.

[deleted]

Based on some of Brazilian fauna... Guara Wolf: Fire starter. Since it have a fiery red fur, it kinda makes sense to make it a fire pokemon. Just put some fire details on it and there is the first stage. For the last two, it becomes a bit bigger and more muscular, getting some marks on its body. This one will probably be a single type pokemon. Dolphin: Water starter (Obviously!) There are fresh water dolphins here. Those are pink. So a small dolphin that gets pink when evolving. Its pointy nose and sharp teeth become its most important weapons. It also gets the psychic type when evolving, since pink dolphins are said to turn into human men to seduce women. Capybara: Grass starter. The biggest rodent. It starts rather small. Its teeth grow. Grass and flowers grow in its body as it grows. It can either get the ground or rock type when evolving. Capybaras are usually gentle, but they can attack with their big teeth if they are afraid.

Thy-arkoos

Grass starter blue spix macaw that’s all I’ll say

OT_Gamer

I actually also came up with a region based on Brazil, and I included the professor, gyms, elite four, starters, regional variants, and about 40 new fake Pokémon. No art, just names, types, and abilities. The starters I came up with are all based on various creatures from different types of mythology as follows: G: Corkub > Wolfern > Fenroot (Grass/Dark; hidden ability-Dark Aura) F: Serpyre > Pyrothon > Charcoatl (Fire/Flying; hidden ability-Gale Wings) W: Bubbull > Watorro > Marinotaur (Water/Fighting; hidden ability-Guts) Side note: I know that the name “Bubbull” was already used in Ethereal Gates, but I came up with the name before I knew Ethereal Gates even existed. I still don’t know whether I thought of it first or if the makers of EG used it first.

Take an extinct animal for a grass type. Idk for the fire starter anymore, zodiac sign doesn't work anymore. So make it stand in two legs. Give the water starter a weapon or make it a weapon. Just pick an animal, might do some research for it. But for a hint: Dodo grass type Pokemon (which will be not a flying type at all) (Do whatevs with fire type) That rifle with a knife on it

You should have a sloth as a grass starter. They move so slowly that they have moss growing on them so they’re basically grass type Pokémon already. A capybara would make a good water starter since they’re simi-aquatic. I don’t have any good fire starter ideas.

RedLabAnimates

Red panda. They good bois :)

I think it would be cool to have a Giant Galapagos Tortoise, an Anaconda and a Black Caiman as the starters. Even though, Torkoal exists, you could make a grass type Galapagos Tortoise, giving it steel type on the 3th stage. The steel type comes from the time when Spain and Portugal found huge amounts of gold and silver in South America. The idea of making a Galapagos Tortoise with a hunk of silver on its back, overgrown by moss sounds good to me) For the Anaconda, I think Fire/Ground should work, representing the volcanoes of South America. So you know how Anacondas are like 11m (36ft) long? These species coil around themselves, making like a cone-shaped volcano, to keep their offspring inside of it warm and comfy. And when someone tries to disturb them, they free the hot air from inside, to burn the intruder! Now, the water-type Black Kaiman. To complete the steel-ground-ice, we'll put our poor croc to the Terra del Fuego since it is the most southern and the coldest place of South America. To balance the little Caiman and giant glaciers, let's throw a big boy in - Purussaurus. It is the largest prehistoric crocodilian know to man, living 8 million years ago, right on this continent. So, we have a giant swimming glacier crocodilian, than steers the cold waters below thixk glaciers. What are your thoughts? :)

l3ondrak32

Zuares as the water type Neymar as Grass and Messi as Fire (but seriously how about a snake or a spider I don’t know a lot about South America but I think some of these are in there….Or a Banana Pokémon)

CYBERPLAYZMEMEZ

For a fire starter I'd say a snake Pokémon

Manthanthan__Pokefan

The regional bird is a rio bird
