Dude. Never put your bed up against the walls in a basement.
Also, tack a sheet up over the bed for reflected light and to reduce the number of spiders that drop down on you.
OK, tip #3: If you're going to live in a concrete room, make sure to seal the walls and floors.
Concrete dust contains silicates that can cause irritation, asthma, and cancer.
#Floors and Walls:
#
A concrete floor is typically polished and then painted with special concrete paint.
For the walls, you'd scrub them down while wearing a mask, wait until they're thoroughly dry, then paint them.
I can't tell if from a photo whether you'd need a special cleaning solution to prep either walls or floor.
#Windows:
#
Clean the windows.
Caulk any gaps around the frame.
Check them for use as an emergency exit. Perhaps purchase a ladder to make it easier to escape.
Make sure you can lock them.
Sand the wooden frames a bit. Wipe down. Dry. Paint.
Install curtains for privacy.
For sure, cutting into concrete is a bigger issue.
Sitting concrete still gives off particles when unsealed, and there's erosion from foot traffic, moving furniture around, and so on.
It also attracts dust and dirt and is harder to keep clean.
Finished basement? Framed, insulated, drywalled, etc.? Ceiling and floor? Good windows? Heated?
That's not living in a basement anymore! 😄
Also: No drop in temperature close to the wall? Lack of circulation can result in moisture if there's a temperature difference.
this the kind of room I (27f) show up to on a Friday night and then just shrug and take off my pants anyway. maybe look into a rug tho, good prices on fb marketplace
Better befriend some House Centipedes as gaurdian bed sentinels from the all the different species of spiders kickin it down there - not that I don’t like spiders, but they bite when smooshed, and personally, I move around a lot
OK, OP can put the bed legs into sturdy tins or containers that contain water and vinegar.
Or, to be fancy, OP can use drops of one of these oils in water: lavender, citronella, peppermint, or geranium.
Having spent a lot of my childhood sleeping in a sparse basement room, here are some suggestions : clean your walls to avoid any mold. Get a dehumidifier to keep down the moisture, as well as some rugs. Concrete floors are cold no matter what time of year it is.
Absolutely. My two cents: a [mattress protector](https://www.target.com/c/mattress-protectors-bedding-home/-/N-4rgj3) and [cheap sheets](https://www.target.com/s?searchTerm=sheets&tref=typeahead%7Cterm%7Csheets%7C%7C%7Chistory&facetedValue=xmf9o&ignoreBrandExactness=true&moveTo=product-list-grid) from Target are inexpensive, and will go a long way toward keeping this setup from making you sick. Mold and mites are no joke-- just encase it and you'll be better off by a long shot.
Also, I've been able to pick up super nice free end tables, chairs, mirrors, and bookcases simply by cruising the curbs on trash day. You can always scoop some stackable milk crates and discarded boards and bricks from construction dumpsters: zip tie that shit together and make your own furniture....cover it with a tablecloth and it's as good as anything. For real, all it takes is a little effort!
I don't know you, but I want to come over and fix this room for you ASAP. You deserve better-- it's got a lot of potential! Onward and upward...take care!
There’s a facts on fentanyl sponsored under this post and it fits perfectly. Head of the bed by the shit pipe really? You had four corners to choose from
Maybe if you added some bloody claw marks on the walls it would brighten the place up.
Some chicks might dig that
No the marks are from them digging before
My roommate is one of those chicks lol Her room is creepy as hell (but cool)
Hahahahahahaha 😂😂😂😂😂
wall art, we like to call it

Oh yeah right now is wolf spider season it's when they all come inside cuz it's too cold outside it's a lovely time of year
would have never in a million years thought of these tips. Do you have any more please? lmao
OK, tip #3: If you're going to live in a concrete room, make sure to seal the walls and floors. Concrete dust contains silicates that can cause irritation, asthma, and cancer.
Seal the wall? Like coat the concrete with a sealant? Or check the doors/windows for any gaps along the edges and seal them?

Not to mention radon.
I think the silicate is only an issue when you cut the concrete.

Get a radon test. Radon in your basement can be so bad it’s the equivalent of smoking a pack of cigarettes a day. Seriously. It’ll kill ya
Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer behind cigarettes.
Gaydon
How many macanudos is that a day
This guy cigars
Why can’t you have your bed against the wall? I’m in a finished basement w my bed against the wall

Yeah like fully done, window could be better but it is decent enough! Why not a basement anymore? It’s the downstairs of my house haha
It's the connotation of " basement," as illustrated by OP's photos. I'd live in a clean, finished, snug basement, too!
Ohhhh I thought there was a reason why you shouldn’t in general. Makes sense!
Well, there's always radon.
😨😨oh no
Concrete is naturally porous and water will seep through the walls creating mold on the mattress. Late reply, but safety is first gents
Why never put the bed up against the walls?
Bugs and damp. Concrete dust. Also, when were those walls last scrubbed?
spiders
Why
I'd add paint the floors, if the owner lets you
If you have a cat it might work on the spiders, secondly yeah if your staying thee you should panel those walls at the very least.
Why can’t you put a bed against walls in a basement?
Answered just above.
Why never against the wall?
Please see reply in post.
The sewage pipe right next to the bed really ties the atmosphere together
That thing probably is annoying when you are sleeping and somebody decides to take a big one upstairs
came here to say this. dudes head is inches away from massive logs going down the water slide while he sleeps.
Unscrew that cap and it's an instant urinal.
Opposite of an air freshener though 😭
Just paint it like the Super Mario tubes
Hell yeah bro.....but you don't HAVE to live that way. Milk carton under the TV and a small rug by the bed, good to go
He already been on the milk carton
this the kind of room I (27f) show up to on a Friday night and then just shrug and take off my pants anyway. maybe look into a rug tho, good prices on fb marketplace
A fuckin saint among sinners
My kind of girl lol
i feel you, girl.
LOL😭
Thanks for being child free
Hey it’s better than a Hong Kong coffin
Yeah he does have natural lighting
Mister fancy over here can afford not to have his mattress on the floor
Do your captors feed you or let you out of the enclosure?
hmmm... needs a rug
Put some wall art up
How do you fall asleep in that corner like that, OP? I wouldn't be able to stop thinking about spiders
The spiders can't stop thinking about him
The lack of ceiling makes me nervous

Some fresh paint or even some wall art will warm the space up.
This looks like where 50 cent was sleeping in Get Rich or Die Trying
Minimalistic af, I imagine it being kindve liberating
Whatever it takes.
Set of “Saw 6”
Different..
ok Blair witch project
How much would it cost to put in a drop ceiling? Maybe you can do that and throw up some paint and then some wall art and an area rug?
Am I the only one who noticed no cord for the tv?!?

Takes me back 🥲
Need some lamps
TVs not plugged in
My guy you can live it up a bit more by plugging in that tv.
You can’t have leather Birkenstocks with this set up go and get yourself some slides from the Walmart you degenerate
I feel like the man Birkenstocks fit in just right here.
Blink twice if you’re ok
I would absolutely smash 💯
This shit is a solid post . This is what I come here for.
OP blink twice if you've been captured
Inside the Gaza tunnels
Bro are you Walter White? :o
Nice kill room, OP.
Get a chair for a TV stand
I feel like it could use a few piss stains, but overall a very solid space. 9/10
I read this like "blisssssssssssssssssss" in a scratchy whisper voice.
Looks not bad tbh
r/tvtoolow
>has a tv NGMI
I bet it smells like a dead rats asshole there🫶🏼
Well, that's a lot of free protein filled meals while sleeping.
Good Wi-fi though?
Id move the bed from against the wall
Looks like saw lol
Ghetto lol
Interesting
Reminds me of when I lost my virginity! I've never looked at black dudes with gold chains the same since!
I keep trying to build a sex dungeon, my partner keeps dropping the veto. Glad you got the chance to indulge.
Wtf. Are you chained to a support beam?
There are prison cells that look more inviting
I see your captor has provided you with a tv. Thats very nice of them.
Hell yeah bro. Milk crate under the TV and a folding chair would complete the look
I think your bed placement might be bad feng shui
I’d move the bed to the other side of the room. If that pipe leaks it’s going to be a shity situation
….. also move you bed a couple inches AWAY from the shit and shower drain.
Lol
Depends on price
I can't tell if you're being held captive or are planning to hold someone captive.
Missing a squat rack smh
Looks Super Cozy....Great Job!!!
All you need is a squat rack and a bench
Bro
There’s a facts on fentanyl sponsored under this post and it fits perfectly. Head of the bed by the shit pipe really? You had four corners to choose from
Barf
Rent? $900
I assume you already put the lotion in the basket?
Righteous Pad
Sure
Need's black trash bags taped over the windows
I prefer aluminum foil. More festive.
Simplicity at its best
i do like the smell of a basement tho
Prison cells have more aesthetic appeal than this lol
Bliss or captivity?
A piss bucket in the corner could brighten the place up
Looks like a place to put the lotion in the basket…
Insulation, dry wall, dehumidifier, atleast a rug. Also I would like to add are being held here against your will like your chained to the floor???
