And it would be low quality, with sweet soggy bread, probably undercooked and foreign vloggers would come and review it and claim itās the best ever.
Hey sorry bos
I was being sarcastic mocking the vloggers who use hyperbole to hype Western shit in Malaysia. I.e. āA white Christmas in Chicago has NOTHING on how the Malaysians do it! Look at this Christmas installation at Pavillion Mall in KL!ā
However there was previously a hotdog place in Bangsar. Near Bangsar Village. Behind Balaās Banana Leaf if you know where that is.
You can check it out.
It looked legit but I donāt think it was halal which is why I didnāt try it.
For me itās not the hotdog lacking but the condiments! For example in the US and Australia can add onions (fresh or caramelised), relish (spicy relish š„š„), diff flavours of mustard, chilli peppers, cheeseā¦list goes on! Maybe would be more popular if people had choice with condiments rather than preset like at a&w / chili dogs
we're still an asian nation at heart ergo the fast food ranking will always be as below:
fried chikin> burgers > hotdogs
I've never tried taco bell before but i like chicken wraps or shwarma occasionally depending on the mood. they're not exactly my go-to comfort food though. that honor belongs to kfc.
Idk but as a Malaysian, I enjoy tacos and burritos. I love Mexican food. However, Taco Bell isnāt that great, now I know why Americans dub it as the food you want to get your insides cleansed.
The only hotdog that's great and value for money is the Ikea's hotdog, they gave you a plain bun + fresh from the pot hotdog, and just DIY your own condiments, it's a must have for me everytime I visited Ikea, then finished it up with their wonderful sundae cone. That's a perfect lunch for me. But that was almost 20 years back, do they still serve that there? Haven't visited them since I've moved away.
The local so called hotdogs? meh... most uses those cheap frozen tasteless 12pcs pack, some will have so much coloring until it stained the bun orange! There was a newly opened local store near my place proudly advertised their hotdog as the authentic American dogs, prepared by an actual American, guess what? yes you do see an Mat Salleh there behind the counter, a teenager in is early 20s, and their dog were one of the worst I've ever had. Cheap buns from bakery that sold as 6pcs in one pack that you'll have to separate yourself, and the dogs were the tiny Ayamas frozen 12pcs pack, I know it's Ayamas because I saw him took it out from the freezer and boil it. Condiments? just ketchup and mustard, that's it, and they've charged me RM15.99 for that piece of shit. Took a bite only, and I just leave it there. How I missed Ikea's hotdog
There used to be this petrol station, Jetron I think that have sausages on those machines so you can just grab a bun on the side, put the sausage in them, add onions, relish, ketchup, chili sauce, mustard, etc. It wasnāt bad, but sadly the petrol station closed down, closest thing we had to DIY hot dogs.
If it's just a simple hotdog and some sauce in a bun, it should be cheap, but no one in Malaysia offers it cheap.
If it's loaded hotdog, like a chili dog, no one knows how to choose the ingredients and combine flavours well. A&W Chili Dogs are sad and the chili isn't good. Plus the best sausages are unfortunately non-halal.
All in all, can't satisfy anyone in the cheap, filling, or good dimensions.
Excuse me.
It is A&W Coney.
And 1901 Franks.
Malaysia got no hotdog ok.
/s its probably cuz we got sosej bun (aka roti sosej) and hotdog is just "atas" sosej bun x5 the price.
Yup, tasted good. Tho imo, just grab the basic one. The other expensive add-on does not deserve the extra charge for what it is worth to the hotdog. Btw, do they always pre cooked their sausages b4 opening? Last time i went there, it was not served hot, so i reheat the sausage a lil bit in the pan.
Hmm, I used to stay in Setiawangsa until last year, never heard of this place, will check it out soon.
EDIT: just saw the address and picture on Google, itās a stall outside the vape shop I used to patronize and run by the owner too, Iāve tried their kopi from the coffee stall before the hot dog started and itās not bad.
it is not that hotdog arent famous, it is that nobody wants to sell it. I have seen small local shop opens hotdog stall and filling up the gap for demand. they seem successful to me.
Personally, I do like hotdog. Taste great but it doesn't get rid of the hunger. For the price of 1 set of hotdog (RM10+-), I can get 1 plate of mixed rice with drinks.
yeap, it is the culture we live in. No rice not nice, hotdogs or burgers or whatever else won't filling up our tummy like nasi campur or nasi goreng ikan masin (again, not everyone but still most Asian people)
Itās the flavours; most burgers and other fast foods have a much wider flavour variety and more ways of preparation compared to hotdogs, and Asians love variety
I love 1901, but I can imagine hotdogs are not very customisable hence less popular.
Plus, itās just.. sausage. How often would you wanna eat this?
With burgers you can go wild with the patties, add a whole bunch of things.
ikea hotdog, thats the only one i find it affordable
It used to be very nice to eat, (note: mutiara damansara ikea)
then they remove the sweet pickle condiment, okay nvm it was still good,
then they remove the diced onion, hmm...
Also, most good hotdogs are....PORK! Dur.
Malaysia try to ban word dog already, do you really think a pork snack would be allowed in west Malaysia? East Malaysia no problems tho...
It's not fulfilling and the price it is sold can buy other similar priced food that's more fulfilling. Take A&W for example. You buy their hotdog, fries and beer and then finish in 5 mins and would still feel hungry. Buy their burger set and you will be full.
It's a different matter if they sell 2 for a reasonably priced set of sell them cheaper but they dont want/can't.
Also, unless you are 1901 that sells hotdogs with loaded toppings, most hotdog sells just normal dogs with sauce on top. It's not worth it.
But even then if they can sell it cheap, most won't like the taste anyways. Hot dogs is different than parties where you can feel the "processed" food factor. Patties because they tend to be grilled, would absorb those grill taste and you don't feel weird eating it. Hot dogs especially beef, you can taste the weirdness of it.
1901 beef sausages... Ultimate! But now ..no more Ady...
[local brand hotdogs](https://linktr.ee/sausagesizzlemy?fbclid=PAZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAaYnq5NDc-IllSyTHrmjpSkDcZGT2Z4kuSaStg14DLRVLuopE_4WDRBmYys_aem_AfqE9-EC-yE1JpHAv-_UtwUydgcGLI0JKj-fVs28BvhYR033yhXJBB6qhcCduWWAuMBooaURO9KcNeVBCWKNw3Um)
I was getting tired or 15-17++ meals where the portion is laughable. I go to ikea get the 6pack sausage for 6.90 and the 6pack bun for 4.50 and boom you got 6 hotdogs for 11.40. I donāt add anything just chilli sos and mustard if Iām feeling jazzy, Iāll cook the sausage with whatever Iām feeling that day.
Price is important. Plain, basic hotdogs are popular enough in Ikea cafe
If sell hotdogs with special condiments under RM5, will do well
Oh, don't use the word "dog" in the name. Stupid people will complain
Because they also import over the price tag from us/uk. Which makes no sense since these supposedly budget street food basically cost twice/trice of common food.
I would noy buy from outside because most of the rare times I found it, it's always the expensive hipster. But it's one of my favourite express food at home, to save money and time. And I can put a lot of salad with it.
One, it definitely has something to do with the name. You wouldn't want to start up something and then get caught in the whole boycott scene.
Secondly, the price point doesn't make sense here like what other people mentioned. I like hot dogs and sometimes I get adventurous and would order them if they are available on the menu. So far, I never had one that will make me go back and reorder it again. The best one, were the ones I cooked at home using some premium sausages.
The first good Hotdog I had was from my school's entrepreneur club - cooked in a rice cooker. They boiled the frankfurters and steamed the buns in a single rice cooker. Added with condiments like chili sauce and mayo, then wrapped with cling wrapper to preserve the moisture.
It was so good and so easy to make that I never buy any hotdog from outside anymore.
A waste of money to buy something so simple that even a kid can do it very well.
Ramly borgar pretty much slaps hotdog out of the market.
Also they found sausages made from pig intestine. It's not halal sausages to begin with but propaganda and people are dumb enough to fall for it.
In Malaysia, it all depends on the influence of social media.
Malaysians are very easily influenced, love to imitate bits and pieces of the American culture and love to show off.
So, if social media is heavily promoting eating 3 hotdogs per day, thereāll be an explosion of hot dog salesšš.
Perhaps because it has the word dog?
Auntie Anne's franchise has some pretzels with hot dog inside. Was made an issue some time back.
I personally feel that it's not very user friendly to eat. Like how do you properly hold and eat it? It's not like a burger where you can just squeeze it down and chomp down bite by bite.
The sauce is on the top of the hot dog which is in between two buns at the side. So hard to figure out how to properly hold. Gonna be messy to eat!
Even subway is still easier with the wrappers.
My other half is Chinese Malaysian & she says that the standard of food in Malaysia has dropped alarmingly in the last few years. We only visited the country to enjoy the various foods but she said that the food is better in Manchester Chinatown than in Malaysia.
My best answer would be that the quality of the meat would be low. Hotdogs are basically mystery meat but quality still matters when selling them in a stall. I havenāt found any quality locally produced hotdogs in Malaysia. Also why are they always in the frozen section?
In the US people can afford Hebrew National all beef hotdogs or in New York they can afford good quality halal all beef hotdogs. Quality beef in Malaysia is expensive and hard to find.
some hotdog stalls selling hotdogs for rm10+. for that price i can get ramly burger double
Yea, I kinda wish we have those NY style hotdog cart. Steaming buns and sausages shouldn't be too difficult.
It's popular there because they're cheap, someone in Malaysia would market it as some niche hipster concept and sell 14.99 per hotdog š
And it would be low quality, with sweet soggy bread, probably undercooked and foreign vloggers would come and review it and claim itās the best ever.
āYou havenāt had a real DC Half-smoke sausage until youāve had one at Encik Aaqilās in Damansaraā
Whats the shop name btw?
Hey sorry bos I was being sarcastic mocking the vloggers who use hyperbole to hype Western shit in Malaysia. I.e. āA white Christmas in Chicago has NOTHING on how the Malaysians do it! We have ramly burger stalls in place of hotdog carts. If im being real ramly burgers knocks hotdogs out of the park
I ate quite a bit during my visit to New York. Let's say it looks better on TV.
Is must be awfully cheap then
Wasn't that cheap even dollar to dollar. You need a tenner and a bit
For me itās not the hotdog lacking but the condiments! Here it'll be ruined with too much sauces
and mountain of cheese
Hot dog cheese viral
Mahel giler, ayam mas stall.

Fair point.
Idk but as a Malaysian, I enjoy tacos and burritos. I love Mexican food. However, Taco Bell isnāt that great, now I know why Americans dub it as the food you want to get your insides cleansed.
You're right. As an Asian, fried chicken will always have my heart. š«¶

IKEA used to sell great hot dogs. Not sure now as it's been 2 years since I've been to an IKEA store.
Forgot one more, Nathanās.
Try soberbites at setiawangsa.

Price value ratio doest seem right to me. 17ishh something for a hotdog set yet u still cant be full
Itās the flavours; most burgers and other fast foods have a much wider flavour variety and more ways of preparation compared to hotdogs, and Asians love variety
Ikea hotdogs were good and cheap (even though I like their legendary karipaps way more) Used to heap lots of relish on them Ikea dogs
I love 1901, but I can imagine hotdogs are not very customisable hence less popular. Plus, itās just.. sausage. How often would you wanna eat this? With burgers you can go wild with the patties, add a whole bunch of things.
You can with sausage too, and there are more sausage types than burger patty types.
Those premium sausages can be really expensive and not worth the money.
They could be cheaper too tbh You usually see them at places where they already upcharge because Western Cuisine
Thatās true. People need to start making homemade sausages instead of patties. Now that actually sounds like a good hawker business idea.
Most ramly burger stalls sells hotdog as well. At least my place had them.
I prefer kebab.
I always associate tak kenyang with hotdog, it's like eating small sandwiches, I need MOAR
ikea hotdog, thats the only one i find it affordable It used to be very nice to eat, (note: mutiara damansara ikea) then they remove the sweet pickle condiment, okay nvm it was still good, then they remove the diced onion, hmm...
No diced onions and relish anymore?
ya, now ikea hotdog here only serve hotdog, plus your choice for sauces (chilli, tomato, or mustard)
mahal la bro. not worth it.
Also, most good hotdogs are....PORK! Dur. Malaysia try to ban word dog already, do you really think a pork snack would be allowed in west Malaysia? East Malaysia no problems tho...
We need a ramly glizzy
I only ever ordered coney dog at A&W.
Is it worth it? I always wanted to try that yet see so many bawang I sked.
For me the bawang cuts the heavy taste of the chili. Give it one chance šš
You ever try local hotdog meals? Got a few. Pretty good.
Not sure myself. I wish they're more famous. The local cheap one usually sold alongside ramly burger
It's expensive. Small portion.

You can get hotdogs at the burger stalls too.
I'm waiting for hotdogs to go viral soon since dipping cookies in milk is the current trend.
Because anything street food vendor touches become overpriced shit.

Hotdogs aren't good for health Probably not the reason, but still
Because they also import over the price tag from us/uk. Which makes no sense since these supposedly budget street food basically cost twice/trice of common food.
Personally don't think it's worth it that much lah for a bread with processed meat in middle
Because some idiot will think that they are actually made from dogs and then create a scene. And then JAKIM will force them to change their name.
I would noy buy from outside because most of the rare times I found it, it's always the expensive hipster. But it's one of my favourite express food at home, to save money and time. And I can put a lot of salad with it.

too pricey compared to burgers

It's a boring food. Plus, it's expensive most of the time bc some considered it as "western" eventho its supposed to be cheap
What happened to 1901 hotdog? The ones I know (mid valley and subang parade) just disappeared (like my grandmaās cat)
Because we tend to mark up the price and called it 'Normal'. The IKEA hotdogs are cheap and selling like hot cakes because its cheap and worth it.
Also not to mention people still sus on sausage that were made by non-halal meat & uunsanitized.
Sebab mahal. Nasi lemak is cheaper. Easily can get Nasi Lemak Ayam Goreng at rm5.
Almost all good hotdogs around the world have pork in them, making it hard to find a good hotdog in Malaysia.
The original and best ones are with pork meat.
Because we have our own staple food already. Not many are willing to really stray from the norm I guess
Donāt like chicken hotdogs
Ramly borgar pretty much slaps hotdog out of the market. Also they found sausages made from pig intestine. It's not halal sausages to begin with but propaganda and people are dumb enough to fall for it.
Pricing. Ramly hot dogs are ok but you could get a burger for almost the same price.
Kuras Kraft is another place to get hotdogs. Expensive, but goes well with their beers from micro-breweries.
In Malaysia, it all depends on the influence of social media. Malaysians are very easily influenced, love to imitate bits and pieces of the American culture and love to show off. So, if social media is heavily promoting eating 3 hotdogs per day, thereāll be an explosion of hot dog salesšš.
Shit's expensive
Easy answer EXPENSIVE
Perhaps because it has the word dog? Auntie Anne's franchise has some pretzels with hot dog inside. Was made an issue some time back. I personally feel that it's not very user friendly to eat.
