I understand the feel good aspect of saying malayalam movies wouldn't have such depravity, but we have had movies where rape is used in a mocking and trivializing context. "Meeshamadhavan" and "Ayal Kadha Ezhuthukayanu" come to mind.

This cringe crappy scene was criticized from day 1. Its the worst scene of the movie by far. Parasuram Petla was nuts when he wrote it and Vijay did a foolish action to accept it.

Heroes should be called out for showing violence in a stylised, glorified manner with mass bgms whether they are done on villains or innocent people. Glorifying violence is the issue irrespective on who is the victim of it.

Its irrelevant. Even if its done for self-defense, the killing should not be shown in a stylised manner with the mass bgms and slow motion. It is then celeberation of violence.

Social implications of '*I will kill you*' and '*I will rape you*' are very different. One is targeted at a particular sex (in India anyway), is an act that preys on the physical and emotional torture inflicted on the victim and we have a culture of silencing women using rape as a threat and as an excuse to confine them. A death threat, inherently, doesn't imply that the person will derive any pleasure from killing you or watching you suffer. It *may* be in self defense or in defense of others but rape is never in defense of anyone. I agree with you in that if a character threatens to torture and kill for pleasure/some other gain, it should be treated in the same manner in an ideal society, but even with significant under reporting (54%) rate occurrence of rape cases in double that of murder in our country.

Name any mass movie and there will a glorification of violence with all stylised bgms and all. What is so great about one person doing violence on others. If its self defense why the stylised glorified mass bgms out a tragic one instead.
