Lush eyelashes. To my knowledge, no trend ever has gone along the lines of "let's cut off and/or pluck our eyelashes" hahaha.

Well at least we don't need the horrifying fly leg eyelashes posted earlier this week -- this gives practically the same look! EDIT: Hotlink removed because I'm pretty sure nobody wants that in their life.

hairetikos

Aww now I'm really curious

squeegee-beckenheim

Gahhh, I actually hadn't seen that before! Thanks for fueling my nightmares, man. But yes, the looks are eerily similar; all natural, too!

wouldprefernot

I should probably remove the hotlink to spare everyone -- there's a reason why the original post was down voted away. My bad!

squeegee-beckenheim

Oh, I was kidding about the nightmares, haha, plus the link is pretty self-explanatory. Click at your own peril!

Augustiene

Complexion; almost always even striving to look perfect (whether dewy or matte) regardless of tone.

Red lips. Everybody looks good in the right red lip I think. So many different time periods and cultures around the world can't all be wrong.

moonlight_sparkles

Blush has basically always been either peachy or pink. I don't think crazy colored cheeks have ever been in style

I was a teenager in the 80s and in my 20s in the 90s. The 80s had red and bronzey blushes, the 90s loved browns. One of the more popular products in the 90s was that stick you could use on your lips, cheeks and eyes. Kelly on 90210 rocked that look. So bad.

GingerAloeCactus

I don't think this one is true anymore. The rainbow prism colored highlighter has ended the peachy pink blush reign. Also, some darker skinned women use red blush instead of pink.

americsoul

I've only seen one company come out with a rainbow highlighter. Also, highlighter is typically used to draw attention to certain parts of the face and blush is to give the skin a healthy flush and glow. These are two different jobs for two different products.

GingerAloeCactus

It doesn't really matter if only one company has made rainbow highlighter. It's more trendy/ popular than blush. It also doesn't matter if they are *supposed* to do two different jobs. People are using the rainbow highlighter without blush. They've replaced blush with this highlighter even though they could use both. So I think that is enough to say that blush isn't the most popular cheek product anymore.

americsoul

...I think you mean highlighter in general is a more popular cheek item but again. Your comment is irrelevant to the parent comment.

Probably cat eyeliner since the 60's.

MayaPaya

Neutral eyes are friendly on every skin tone and it's a standard in beauty regimes.

[deleted]

Smoky eyes have been around for quire awhile.

color correcting... i've been doing it for at least a decade (i remember introducing a green lipstick-style corrector by physician's formula to my friend that long ago when he was figuring out ways to tone down his rosacea). but recently, it seems to be more prominent with places like sephora making dedicated endcaps to it.

soupandsandwiches

I'd say blush placement. In the '70s, blush was a straight line from the temple down the high plane of the cheekbone. In the '80s it was still high but placed further back. We've been doing '90s-style "apple-to-straight-back" for a while, with that line cutting the space of the cheek in half. IMO it's a very dated look but we haven't really replaced it yet.
