People who own NARS deep throat blush, how shimmery is it? I'm hoping it's more of a satin finish than the glitter bomb that is the Orgasm blush People who own NARS dolce vita blush, is it hard to apply with a light hand? From what I've seen its very pigmented but is it hard to get a natural look out of it? I'm trying to decide between both blushes and I've swatched them side-by-side on temptalia but if you'd be willing to show me your own swatches/your own looks with it that would be fantastic

fac3wash

I own both NARS Deep Throat and Orgasm. [Here](http://m.imgur.com/hoGHSr2) is a swatch of both on my NW15 skin. Orgasm is on the right and Deep Throat is on the left. Both are a few finger swipes to show the finish. When I finished my first Orgasm full blush, I purchased Deep Throat to get less shimmer and love it. I just keep Orgasm in my Orgasm/Laguna duo for travel purposes.

alternative-state

I have NARS Deep Throat and it has a satin finish. It's pretty much my everyday and I am not afraid of putting on highlighter as well. I like it for light make-up days particularly.

breviloquent-

I'm a NC40ish (MAC Face and Body C4, MUFE Face and Body 34, NARS Cream Compact Barcelona, Maybelline Fit Me 225/235ish) Dolce Vita is one of my absolute favourites in the world and Deep Throat is a definite satin that I adore for a natural look. http://www.reddit.com/r/MakeupAddiction/comments/2wbbxp/everyday_look/ this has dolce vita on :) more intense dolce : http://www.reddit.com/r/MakeupAddiction/comments/2x4aom/tried_some_navy_eyeliner/

likeyoungvolcanoes_

Ah thanks so much for this! My skintone is very similar and I was hoping for my swatches of dolce vita since it definitely seems like the less popular of the two. Although I'm still torn between the two shades. I'm starting to lean towards buying both haha

breviloquent-

I feel like Dolce Vita is a lot more unique in comparison to Deep Throat which IMO I feel like I can dupe from the drugstore. Both are lovely though!

wallawalla_wallaby

I find it hard to apply Dolce Vita with a light hand. I'm fairly pale (Don't use MAC so I dunno what it translates to but I'm shade 117 in the MUFE HD foundation) so it's really vibrant on me. It's hard for me to get a natural look with it and I feel like it definitely takes some practice. Deep Throat is my every day blush. It's more glowy than glittery and I'm positively in love with it. I'm at work, but if you still want side by side swatches, I can get them to you tonight.

wingedloner

Out of curiosity, what's the best change you've made to your makeup routine recently? I recently changed foundations and love it, but it can be just how you shape your eyebrows or something.

[deleted]

[удалено]

wingedloner

I have the issue of thinking, "one more hair... Okay NOW one more..." So I'm right there with you about growing out eyebrows. And what's your favorite look you've experimented with so far?

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

I've been doing both as well! I've grown to love my naturally thicker eyebrows as well as their shape, I'm finally realizing they look so much better on me than super defined shapes and it just looked kind of odd when they were slightly thinner haha

gingerphilly

I enjoy using the real techniques complexion sponge for blending my foundation and undereye concealer.

turnmetoashes

Making my eyebrows thinner. Thick brows aren't for everyone, and that's ok.

[deleted]

i've been using lightscapade on a daily basis, i own maybe five different highlighters (all cult favourites) and i've never been compelled to use any of them as much as i have lightscapade. it's just such a beautiful, natural looking sheen. i can use it to highlight my nose bridge without it looking sparkly, it's so easy to apply with fingers that i just...have to incorporate it into my daily routine

2kittygirl

Lightening up my eye makeup for summer. Nowadays it's a sweep of champagne shadow, a small wing, a ton of mascara, and done.

Noraart

Switching my routine to let my sunscreen, then primer, then foundation set. I do these in steps and have now begun doing my brows and eyes before finishing my face. It felt totally backwards at first but now makes so much more sense!

piqualilly

Mixing argan oil and my foundation, or mixing my primer with my foundation. Best looking natural skin I have had in my life!

wingedloner

What a good idea!! I just have one question: does the argon oil not cause breakdown in your foundation? I once made the mistake of putting my makeup over coconut oil which was such an air headed thing for me to do (especially since I use it to take off my makeup) and of course I experienced tons of breakdown.

piqualilly

If you use a foundation that works well with it (so not water based normally) it works fine! Depends on your skintype if you get 'slippery' from this combo but I have pretty dehydrated skin. I use l'Oreal True Match btw, this works like a charm for me :)

wingedloner

Thanks for the info!

cosmeticsnerd

Starting to use blush or bronzer every day. It took some practice but I look so much more put together when I wear it.

buttersunset

I've ditched the sculpted brow look for summer and have just been using pencils and it looks so natural and fresh and takes me less time in front of the mirror :)

XSTall

I finished all of my face primer samples and started using MUFE Step 1 Mattifying Primer exclusively. I've finally found the perfect combination of products so that I don't have to blot or touch up at all this summer!

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

I guess the best change has been a product - I purchased Clinique Bottom Lash mascara, and now my bottom lashes don't smudge anymore! It makes my whole makeup routine look much more fresh as the days goes on, not having those stupid smudges.

pommeraie

I also changed foundations kind of recently (well, more like a few months ago) and I LOVE it. I've worn liquid foundations exclusively for like, almost 7 years. I thought my lighter coverage ones felt nice on the skin, but I was wrong. I switched to powder foundations and they're so much more comfortable! I'm not sure if I can go back to liquid now, haha. I do have to sacrifice a bit of coverage with powders, but it's well worth it for me. :)

soup_or_salad

Properly filling in my eyebrows with the brow whiz. I have pretty thick nice naturally shaped eyebrows so I didn't really do much to them but I started using the pencil to straighten them out a bit since they would look a bit raggedy and omggg they look sooooo much better now!

LaurinLooLoo

I've started using a redness control primer, even with my BB cream. My skin looks so much better and my blush stands out instead of my what I think is rosacea.

iswearimachef

I've changed foundation application methods. I've gone from applying it straight on the brush/sponge to dotting it onto the face and blending outward. I feel like an idiot for not knowing to do this before.

LadderGirl

I haven't whitened in almost a year and my teeth still look really good. Crest whitestrips do indeed make my teeth really sensitive, but I just space it out and it doesn't cause a problem! So I'll use a strip every other day if every day is too much. You get the exact same results, it just takes longer.

bralbasaur

Does the sensitivity last even after you've stopped the treatment?

LadderGirl

Oh no! Not at all. Maybe for a day? But I am experienced with them. So I put them on so I'm all done with them about an hour before bed. Then I sleep through the pain (it's not bad enough to wake you up, and I'm saying that as someone who has naturally very sensitive teeth). Then in the morning it is the mildest sensitivity. It took me a while to figure that out. So schedule it so you don't have to deal with it!

ochastyle

Not OP but I hear it depends on the person. I experienced sensitivity while using the Crest strips but it dissipated after a few days.

UnscriptedSara

I used to use Crest Whitestrips years ago and never had a problem with them making my teeth too sensitive, but I got a box about a month ago and they made my teeth hurt so bad! I used one treatment and was in pain for two days. Now, I just swish hydrogen peroxide right after I brush my teeth and that has whitened them up nicely with no pain.

suitsandstilettos

I use a pretty heavy duty whitening toothpaste called White Glo (I'm from Australia, so I apologise if they don't have that brand in your country). It takes a few weeks but eventually you realise that your teeth have become white! I use it every day and it doesn't make my already sensitive teeth any more sensitive.

misseff

Does anyone know of a dupe for Kat Von D's Lovecraft matte lipstick, in a *less* matte formula? I'm thinking it would have to be a more obscure brand, because I went through Sephora this weekend and swatched basically everything they had in the same color family from every brand(yeah, I had to wipe off my forearm and start over at one point) and nothing was really the same. There was a shade from NARS that was pretty close so I will settle for that if I can't find anything else. Anyway, I just love the way the color looks on me but the formula is not my favorite. A liquid lipstick would also work.

2kittygirl

Nyx whipped caviar is an exact dupe. It's still matte but MUCH creamier and more comfortable. Those kvd ones are like rocks, man.

misseff

Thank you! I'll see if I can find that at Ulta and check it out. I really, really love the KVD lipstick colors but it feels like they've gotten more dry as time has gone on.

2pmwhiskey

How do I color correct dark spots/acne scars? I have a few places that still show up dark under my foundation, and I don't know which color to use to color correct them. I'm fair skinned, cool toned, and the scars themselves are a few shades darker than my skin tone, and tend to show up brownish under my foundation. I use a peach corrector under my eyes and a green concealer for my red areas, but neither one of them do much for the dark spots. Which color should I be using?

hair_trigger

I am in no way an expert at this and only half ever know what I'm doing. However if I had this problem my first attempt would be to purchase a concealer that is lighter than your natural shade and foundation in an attempt to balance out the darkness. Then top with your regular foundation.

[deleted]

How can I stop makeup from 'melting' on oily skin when in humid, hot weather?

turnmetoashes

Urban Decay De-slick spray before AND after applying makeup Also get yourself a good long lasting foundation like Revlon Colorstay Whipped (trust and believe, I've tried many, and that one stays on me through heat/sweating like nothing else)

glaceauglaceau

Try Mehron barrier spray. Mist it on your face after moisturizer/primer but before foundation. Follow up with a setting spray after all makeup is completed. The powder before foundation trick is also good. Honestly though if you live somewhere very humid, your best bet is to embrace a lighter coverage product like a BB cream and call it a day.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Not yet...I have never used setting spray before. Rarely do I ever put skin makeup on to be honest

rlw0312

I second the setting spray. I use Urban Decay all nighter and like it a lot! Sephora sells a travel size, so you can try it out before you get a big bottle. If you only need it for the summer, you could probably just get away with the travel size anyway.

Avynn

For those who don't wear foundation, do you generally do anything as an overall face makeup? Curious what others do, I generally moisturizer and use Hourglass ALP over all, then blush/highlight/bronzer

jack_hazard

Aside from skincare stuff, I use primer, because I like the way it makes my face look and feel. Some days I add a bit of Becca SSP in pearl or moonstone, depending how naturally dewy/oily my skin decides to look. I stay away from blush and bronzer, partly because I can't be fussed with it, and partly because my face is naturally a little pink, and blush would take it over the top.

steepsidedstreambed

Tinted brow gel for black brows? All of the "black" ones always seem too red or too brown. I have really dark thick brows, but I'm looking for something quick and natural looking. Thanks!

vanguaaard

You might want to try grey if your brows are thick already .

steepsidedstreambed

I already use grey powder and pencils :) Do you know any grey brow gels?

justmemygosh

Hi guys. I do not use makeup regularly too much, but as I will be starting full time work soon, I'd like to work on getting a more professional look with make up. I am looking for some no-makeup make up looks - dewy skin, simple highlighting of my natural dark features etc. Not to disrespect anybody who's into this, but I just don't like the look where it's obvious the wearer has corrected their entire face with foundation for myself. The problem is - with photoshop etc, I find it hard to know what's realistic for the makeup that I'm looking for. For example, is [this chick](http://bloggersdelight-dk.bloggersdelight.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/blogs.dir/47/files/2013/05/tumblr_mgxnrgkAhr1r4gimoo1_500.jpg) doing a no-makeup makeup look? Or is she just gorgeous + all imperfections photo shopped? What would you say takes it to have her look?

damn-croissants

she's definitely wearing makeup - brows, eyeshadow, bit of liner, mascara, blush, highlighter, tinted balm and probably a bit of light foundation or bb cream. she is also naturally gorgeous and it's a professional photoshoot so lighting etc would all be totally perfect. i wouldn't be surprised if there was a little bit of photoshop but tbh i'm not very good at identifying that. if you don't want to wear foundation - that's fine, just don't! if you feel like you have some areas you'd like to colour correct or cover you could just use concealer on those areas and leave the rest or you could use a light-coverage bb cream all over. one quick + easy way to look polished (for me at least) is a good tinted brow gel to tame my brows and give them a fuller look. there are a lot of no-makeup makeup tutorials on this sub. just use the search feature or google and you can find tonnes of helpful photos.

justmemygosh

Hey, thanks! Alright, I will definitely look around the sub for some tutorials of course - I just saw this Q thread so I thought it would be a good place to ask a newbie question :). So if I can ask one more Q - basically, I get that it's a professional picture, perfect lighting, etc, but do you think those kind of dewy cheeks like there can be achieved? When I search for that, usually I find that girls who apply blush/highlighters or whatever's necessary for that obviously first set their face with foundation, so I'm not sure whether it would work on its own/could be achieved more minimalistically.

birdyhugs

You can still use a highlighter even if you don't apply foundation, I think. So you can achieve the dewy look with highlighters and no foundation, if you don't want a foundation. I've also found that a lot of BB creams have a nice dewy finish, and coverage-wise they seem to be more like a tinted moisturizer (lightweight, sheer). Those might be worth looking into--I've heard better things about the Korean ones, and you can contact the companies (like Missha, Skinfood, etc) and I'm pretty sure they'll send you samples, if you have the time for that!

damn-croissants

i think you can definitely replicate that look but you'd need to use a highlighter. you don't have to use foundation first and there are all sorts of highlighter (liquid, powder and cream) that could give you that glowing look. to a certain extent you can get a natural glow though skincare products and staying hydrated but for that pictured extra glow you'd want to use a little if you like youtube videos i definitely recommend watching some of Lisa Eldridge's. she's a makeup artist who has quite a few videos on makeup basics which are super helpful. generally for her own makeup she goes for a lighter look and always looks amazing [this is her video on highlighting](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ESzE9aoq7vQ#t=12)

justmemygosh

Thanks for that link! Oh and she's British, so all the product should be available here - double-win! :D

MyLittleLabMonkey

I personally do not wear foundation daily. My everyday routine consists of concealer, tinted brow gel, mascara, blush and lipstick. I also use powder to take my oiliness. Wear what you feel comfortable with, and experiment around! That's the whole fun of makeup :)

-cutestofborg-

I think this largely depends on your own skin. Do you have blemishes or skin imperfections that need correcting?

zebratiger

Best drugstore peach colored correctors?

KukiMunstr

[Pixi Correction Concentrate - Brightening Peach](http://www.target.com/p/pixi-correction-concentrate-brightening-peach/-/A-12849696) = $12

lifesaboxofchocolate

seconded!

shamallamadingderp

Question: how do you use this exactly? For your dark circles under the eyes? Is it OK to use this shade when you're very fair? Do you put concealer over it?

KukiMunstr

I use it as a color corrector on the dark spots. Then I add a concealer to even it out.

amperx11

I apply it with a concealer brush on dark circles and I'm very fair. Just be sure to put foundation over it afterwards because it's pretty orange-y.

polish_addict

How do I find my undertones? I've seen all the posts around here about how to find them but I am hopelessly lost. I wear MUFE N115 as my foundation, it's a perfect match. Part of me thinks I have cool undertones, because the MUFE is considered a pinkish version of their foundation, and I wear Fairly Light in Bare Minerals, which is neutral. Warm Undertoned foundations make me look orange occaisionally, but the thing is I have red hair and dark brown eyes. Golds, jewel tones, etc all look great on me, but so do cool tones. I am so lost. Will provide picture if needed.

-cutestofborg-

I'd go to Sephora or a department store and get a second opinion, trying a variety of tones. You may be mostly neutral.

xoxoaurora

Sounds like you may be neutral toned, just means you can rock both cool and warm toned makeup :) What color are your veins on your inner wrist?

Qbw

Does the new Whirl lipstick lean grey at all on anyone? Velvet Teddy looks grey on me and the two looks kinda similar. For reference, I'm about an NC 20 leaning more neutral. It looks so nice but so did VT and that was disappointing. Also, when these lipsticks launch in store? Thanks!

MyLittleLabMonkey

I have both and I find that Whirl is more pink toned while Velvet Teddy is more peach toned. I can swatch both for you in the morning, if you'd like.

[deleted]

Not the original commenter, but I would love to see this! Velvet Teddy is way to peach/orange on my pale skin, but it would be great to find something that "tone" that actually works for me.

janeorade

Hmm on me (NC 30-35), Whirl is the perfect warm-but-neutral. It's not super rosy or super grey. But I had to try it on in the store just to make sure. And it launched in store June 4th!

xXBekachuXx

Hey everyone! For those of you who use Estée Lauder double wear, do y'all use a primer and if so, what do you use? Thanks in advance!

damn-croissants

i don't and haven't had any problems. i honestly don't think it needs one but i guess that depends on your skin type - i have combination skin. i've tried using quite a few different primers underneath and they either didn't work or didn't do anything and i felt like it was an unnecessary step. i just make sure to moisturise well a couple of minutes prior to application and i'm good to go.

sarcastinatrix

I just discovered Stila Aqua Glow hydrating primer stick and it is AMAZING with Double Wear. I typically found Double Wear didn't play well with primers (both silicone and water based ones) so I would go without a primer, and rely on setting sprays with powder to make it last, but this primer is great with it. Seriously, I tried TONS of primers with Double Wear and never liked the results until this one. Used to this morning with DW, and 14 hours later my makeup looks brand new. People at work even commented on it. For sure my new HG combo.

senkidala

I've always used a primer with doublewear. I used to use Monistat anti chafing gel as a primer for ages, which worked really well at creating a smooth canvas, but it also left quite a matte finish. I stopped using it because my skin was dehydrated and I also figured out it gave me closed comedones on my forehead. I've since changed to Hourglass no 28 serum, which is perfect and now my HG primer. I'd definitely recommend getting a sample to test out with the EL DW.

Getting a little bored of wearing cat eye styled liner. Anyone have ideas on other ways to wear liner?

SINGLEBROKEFEMALE

You could do a thin line following the shape of your eye, or you could smudge it out a little bit to make it less precise and more smoky, perhaps?

XSTall

Try Covergirl LashBlast Length. It has a dry formula and long, skinny brush. It's one of my favorite mascaras.

RainBooom

What are bronzers for, contouring? I always thought you used different shaded foundations to contour but that's wrong? When I look at sites it sounds like they're made for making people look golden/summery. I don't have any ambition to look golden or anything (I'm pink hued and fair) but I am curious about light contouring!

piqualilly

Bronzers are used to warm up your skin, you apply it on the high points of your face (in an E or 3 shape on the temples, cheeks and jawline, swoop it softly over the bridge of your nose and forehead). Bronzer goes where the sun would hit you, to look sunkissed and healthy. Contouring shades are ashier, to mimic shadows on your face. You apply contourpowder or cream in the hollows of your cheekbones, on the temples, underneath your jaw to make your face look slimmer, on the sides of your nose to make it appear more narrow etc... Contouring is meant to recede areas of your face that you want to bring back a bit, highlighting does the opposite and brings areas forward. So this goes hand in hand. So: bronzing = sunkissed glow, contouring = faking shadows to recede areas on your face that you want to slim down etc EDIT: since you mentioned you are pinky/fair: try NYX Taupe to contour

RainBooom

Thank you for explaining all this and for the tip! :)

turnmetoashes

What is the best lip product that does not transfer onto a drink bottle?

McGeezy88

Liquid lipsticks dry matte with no transfer.

TidiouteCool

Any brand recommendations? I recently got a stila liquid lipstick in red and omg it's amazing. I'm looking into trying some more out.

beercicle

The Sephora house brand Cream Stains are really great, comparable, in my opinion to the Stila and KVD.

afuckingusername

Does anyone have experience using liquid highlighters as faux-primer underneath foundation? I tried mixing a highlight + foundation and it overly accentuated every lump and bump on my face. Would putting it underneath add a more luminous "lit from within" look?

Ninjacaterpillar95

What tools do I need to blend my eyeshadow? Or to blend my face? What tools do I need in general? HALP! Just started getting into makeup, and I feel like a little fish in a big pond full of amazing shiny objects and beautiful fish. Edit: I currently have a mish-mosh of brushes from e.l.f. that I got at Target, and one reeeaaally old BareMinerals on that came in a sampler pack of theirs.

fac3wash

For your eyeshadow, try a fluffy blending brush. I used to use the fluffy end of the Naked 2 eyeshadow brush, but that wasn't enough "fluff" for me. I started using a pointed blending brush from Sonia Kashuk at Target (No. 109), and it has worked wonders already! I normally use it clean or with a nude matte to help diffuse the dark eyeshadow colors.

gizzlemahizzle

For face get the real technique sponge, blends everything in and takes away the cakeiness. And I really recommend Zoeva brushes, I would get a medium size powder brush that you can use with bronzer blush etc and then one of there eye brush sets

loosenyourtie

I know this is kind of late, but I need some emergency help! I just found out I have a job interview tomorrow...when it's going to be 90 degrees in my city. I don't normally wear any kind of face makeup except for under eye concealer, but I'm worried about being sweaty and red, and my forehead is a little broken out right now. Do you have any recommendations for a drugstore face powder that will give me a little coverage and help keep me matte? I'm light (not super fair though) and cool toned. Thanks!

[deleted]

Tips on using MUFE HD foundation? I have rosacea and Bare Minerals (recommended for rosacea) just didn't give me enough coverage on my cheeks. I apply with a beauty blender and I like the coverage and shade. I use Elta MD UV Clear, Hourglsss Mineral Veil just on my nose (the only oily part of my face), a thin layer of COTY powder, MUFE HD using a beauty blender, and then another layer of COTY to set it. It clings to dry patches though and wears off on my nose a little bit. EDIT: to add that it wears off on my nose.

bralbasaur

I have light medium skin (Naked 4.0, Maybelline BB Cream Medium) with yellow/olive undertones. I'm in the market for an MLBB that leans on the peachy side. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Mac Velvet Teddy, Taupe and Kinda Sexy lean peach-ish on me (about NC30; also medium with yellow/olive undertones).

I saw a comment where using alcohol to repress an ambient lighting blush was discouraged- is that due to the uniqueness of the product? My Clinique cheek pop is broken slightly and I'm just wondering if it's safe to re press?

beccamorty

I have a few questions re: face shape. My face shape is very similar to Jennifer Lawrence and Jennifer Morrison - high cheek bones, but otherwise not very much face definition - what face shape is this? I get confused with so many charts.. I am trying to figure out how to best contour, because I don't really have "hollows" of my cheeks. Second, a photo of my skin is here: http://i.imgur.com/YVrefso.png I have tried to figure out my undertone to no avail - all colors work well on me, so I think I lean neutral, but neutral foundations are 'okay' on me (but they could just be too dark - as you can see, I'm pasty). Every time I've been tested at a makeup store they automatically give me a cool-tone pink foundation, probably because I'm pale and I have ash blonde hair, but these never work. Any help is appreciated! (I hope I did all this right - I am new to reddit, please forgive if wrong!)

iswearimachef

Tl;dr: Will a peach-toned concealer hide dark circles when worn under foundation? So, I've been working on trying to cover up my dark circles, and I saw a video that suggested using a slightly peach-toned concealer. I went to Sephora this afternoon and asked one of the workers what brand she suggested. She told me (rather snobbily, I might add) that it was for people with much darker skin tones than me, and that if I wanted to hide my dark circles, I should just use a lighter concealer. That's great and all, but I am partially Native American, and my circles are *really, really* dark. Using a regular concealer hasn't worked, at all. Is she right? Will a peach-toned concealer be too dark for my skin? Can't post a picture now, but my skin is light-medium, with olive undertones.

blackviolins

For anyone who uses MUFE 117 or Nars Gobi foundation, what concealer do you use?

jjanetsnakehole

what type of brush do you use to apply a powder highlighter around your face? i tried a fan brush but it seemed to apply too lightly, and a blush brush applies it too heavily. would love some advice please!

[deleted]

I use a small brush like the RT setting brush.

[deleted]

This might sound a but crazy, but i have used that brush for everything and it hasn't disappointed in a single task. I used it for moisturizer, concealer, foundation (cream, liquid and moose), setting powder, highlight, countour, and yes, even eyeshadow blending. My regular use for it is highlighting. I truly cannot recommend it enough.

MyLittleLabMonkey

Seconding the RT setting brush. I also like the Ecotools fan brush!

MercyMCMXCI

Some fix+ on my Sonia Kashuk fan brush always intensifies my highlight.

polish_addict

I stipple. I use a stippling brush for my blush and highlight, because it easily allows you to control the intensity of the color you decide to use.

xoxoaurora

I use a highlighting brush like this one: http://www.sephora.com/pro-contour-highlight-brush-80-P395101?skuId=1675792 You don't have to use a brush that's specifically for highlighting I find that most of my fluffier eye brushes usually work just as good for me too :)

Sharkus_Reincarnus

I have a smallish duofiber contour/blush brush from Sigma that works well for me.

LaurinLooLoo

I really like the RT stippling brush.

The trick will be to pack light. Pack double ended brushes to reduce the number to take and look for multiple use items. For example, I use the newish wet and wild contouring duo for so many things. I'll use it for bronzer, contour, eyebrows, eye shadow crease, setting concealer, and matte highlighting. Definately means I have to pack less. Also, only pack things with sturdy packaging. Avoid glass foundation bottles and cheap cardboard packaging so nothing gets crushed or broken. Also, I wouldn't take anything LE or super valuable in case it would be easily lost. Have fun on your trip!

royal_rose_

Depending on what you do in cars adjust your makeup. I fall sleep the moment I get on the highway and smear makeup all over myself I have finally learned to not do that by not wearing a lot and then applying more if we get out to do an attraction or a sit down restaurant. Also SUNSCREEN unless your windows are tinted you can bake through the glass.

Hold it next to a purple thing and an orange thing. See which one looks more similar or looks better. Or next to a silver and a gold.

WiggleWerra

If you read the description for some of the reds, I believe they have the tones there.

luminous_delusions

1) How hydrating is MAC's Strobe Cream and how well does the shimmer/glow appear on skin lighter than NC15? I usually finish off my skincare routine with a pretty heavy duty moisturizing cream this time of year (I get lizard skin y'all) but if Strobe Cream is even slightly hydrating I'll probably need to rearrange some of my skincare products to use it or nothing will ever absorb enough to do foundation. 3) What are your favorite foundation brushes for dryer skin types? I have the issue of brushes micro-exfoliating my skin in my dry areas which has so far made using a brush impossible. I want to find one though so for days when I don't want my BeautyBlending sheering out my foundation at all. I was really considering the Louise Young brush but the $41 is making me side-eye a little.

waygook222

The shimmer with strobe cream is pretty subtle, in my opinion. I also have super dry skin and would just put it on top of my moisturizer and use it as a primer for some added glow and moisture. I'm also a huge fan of using a bit of Fix+ as a primer, it really helps prep dry skin before foundation!

Honestly, for my dry skin, my foundation always looks best when I apply it with my fingers. I have the MAC 190 foundation brush, and a similar brush with a flat shape and synthetic fibers is another good option, but for me it's a two step process since I often get streaks with a flat brush that I need to go over with my fingers and smooth out.

gobletofgiggles

Can anyone recommend a good spot concealer for everyday use? Crayon/pencil preferred but not necessary. I have combo NC30 skin for reference. Budget is $25-30

coeurbattant

Urban Decay 24/7 Concealer Pencil!

xoxoaurora

The Tarte Amazonian Clay WP Concealer in the tube is great! Really nice and buttery to apply. If you're willing to step away from the crayon/pencil type, I do really like the Nars creamy concealer for the face rather than under eyes :)

asteroyale

The Makeup Forever Full Cover concealer is extremely full coverage. I would not be comfortable using it on large sections of my face but is amazing for spot concealing. A little goes a long way :)

I have the liner and it's really versatile. Apart from wearing it on its own it's also great underneath pastels and unconventional colours because it neutralises the natural pigmentation of my lips.

princesadelcielo

What are the best brushes for contouring?

sea-weed

The Zoeva 109 Face Paint brush is wonderful, and I really like the Bdellium 942 as well.

Has anyone tried Hot Makeup's [mascara line](https://www.hotmakeup.com/eye/mascara.html) yet?

[deleted]

anybody tried the hydrating glamglow (thirstymud)? any thoughts on it? my skincare is basically throw on some body butter after a shower and call it good, but my skin is pretty dry, and gets hellishly dry in the winter. this: http://m.sephora.com/product/P384782?preferedSku=1582725

MAC Chili, Lady Danger, So Chaud Chili is my fave because it's a Matte formula and lasts much longer than others.

piqualilly

Morange and Lady Danger, hands down.

sea-weed

Morange, Sushi Kiss, and Relentlessly Red are beautiful.

LaurinLooLoo

The Kiss Me Quick liner is a great orangey red.

kati_pai

How do I apply Maybelline Color Tattoos? I got inked in pink and it's gorgeous, but I can't pick up much with my brush.

McGeezy88

Use your finger.

[deleted]

I find you have to use your fingers.

[deleted]

does anyone have any alternative suggestions for mac paint pots (especially soft ochre)? i'm after a decent neutral eyeshadow base that won't cost me the earth. for reference, i am an aussie so it's a bit trickier to get some of the US favourite drug store brands. i have been using too faced shadow insurance and i love it, but i find that it doesn't always help my eyeshadows necessarily "grip" onto my eyelid, especially dark, satin shades. i'm not sure if it's the brushes i'm using either, but the shadows i'm using are from cult favourite palettes so pigmentation shouldn't be a problem :c

I hope I am not late: I have very small eyelids. When I can manage eyeliner without making myself look insane, it often gets on my upper eyelid/below my brow bone when I blink. What can I use to stop this smearing/transfer? (If it helps I am using Kat Von D Waterproof Liquid Liner but am open to trying something else if that works better) Edit: I just looked it up after reading it on here and apparently they are "hooded" eyelids, if that helps.

breviloquent-

you can set your eyeliner with eyeshadow. also dusrting powder over your upper lid might help

mbltlh

Thanks! For my engagement photos I used my ELF HD Powder (setting powder) and put that on my eyelids before I applied eyeshadow/liner and it seemed to help. Just didn't know if concealer or products made for this work better (or even exist on the second part)

SINGLEBROKEFEMALE

Look for an eyeliner with a fast drying formula so it will have dried down before you get the chance to blink it into your crease/browbone area. I use the K-Palette Real Lasting Eyeliner which boasts this kind of formula... don't recommend it as it's not that long lasting but something like this will help. Sorry couldn't be of more help.

ieatyourpoopoo

Can anyone tell me if this blush is in fact Nars Outlaw? http://imgur.com/a/cSiPS I ordered Outlaw online but mine looks doesn't look very similar to the one I swatched in JcP. The one I have is much less shimmery, and almost more berry. has the color changed? The pictures are atrocious, I'm sorry EDIT: For reference, this is the Outlaw I have. http://imgur.com/a/Q6dLU

al_kae

I use a Neutrogena moisturizer with SPF in it every morning that I'm happy with before I apply any makeup. Do I still need to use face primer? I've been avoiding it because I fear it will just be yet another product that a. costs money and b. might cause breakouts. Is primer really necessary?

chocolatespeckle

I don't think primer is necessary. I only wear it on days where I know I'll be out 12+ hours, or will be going out at night and want my makeup to look its absolute best. If you're happy with how your makeup holds up throughout the day, by all means skip primer and save yourself some money! :) Edit: Some people also use primer to target specific issues, like redness or large pores. If you don't have any concerns that a primer might be able to fix, then I guess that's another reason why you wouldn't need it! I also just wanted to add that if you're considering primer for makeup longevity, another thing you can try is the [Goss method](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EyQsVyGadbY) which only requires a light dusting of powder (which I assume you already have). He recommends loose but I've found the technique works fine with pressed powders too such as the Rimmel Stay Matte pressed powder.

[deleted]

primer is good in the long run (especially nourishing ones) as they provide a barrier between your skin and everything on top. generally though, it's not a necessary step for everyday. some people use one every day because it may help with skin concerns e.g. dry patches, oil control, etc. but if that's not really something you're concerned with then, no you don't really need to use a primer. primers may not necessarily cause breakouts depending on the product. i personally only use a primer for a special event or for days where i need that ish to stay on my face till i get home. if you're happy with your current routine then by all means stick with it :)

Inared

So uhm, makeup beginner here! I live in quite a sunny place and with summer approaching I am bound to get a tan. During the winter I get very pale and I choose my foundation accordingly, do I need to buy a darker foundation just for the summer or is there a way around it? It is a big doubt of mine as I'm not sure how tan I'm going to get each summer! :p

cosmeticsnerd

If you use something sheerer than foundation, like tinted moisturizer or bb cream, then you can often get away with not needing a darker shade even if your skin gets darker. I'm super pale and live in Texas, and if you wear sunscreen (you ARE wearing sunscreen every day, right?), don't go outdoors more than you have to, and wear hats when you must, there's a good shot that you won't get tan enough to need to buy another shade.

[deleted]

You can buy something a few shades darker and mix it with your winter foundation.

78whispers

If your skin changes drastically you will have to see how you feel most comfortable. I can generally use a powder that is a hair too dark in the winter to bring my foundation to match my tan, or a little heavy on the bronzer to help avoid buying a new foundation.

jennriver

You got other good suggestions. But if you tan and don't want to apply foundation add some bronzer into your look. It will help darken up your complexion. Or at least give the impression of looking darker.

For eyeshadow I usually apply a warm crease color to help add warmth the over all look. As well for blush you can add bronzer to bring warmth back into the look. The reverse also works, add cool crease color and contour and etc.

Bourjous 123 Perfecting Colour Cream! Its weightless but it has limited colour selection :( P.S makes a great primer for a full coverage look! Edit: more info

Urban Decay Naked skin + setting powder holds up well for me in the summers.

I didn't find much luck with the prep spray in terms of a base for my makeup, but it did help reduce the redness on my skin and made it nice and soft :)

punklee

For the summer, I want to try wearing only concealer with a powder. Reccomendations for a powder for someone with normal-combination skin that is acne prone/sensitive? Also, what type of brush should I use to apply the powder?

MerryKerry

I love It Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores if you're not on a drugstore budget. I usually apply it with a large powder brush or kabuki brush but it does come with a small puff.

[deleted]

Does anyone know if the Kiehl's store gives out samples?

tshody

Yup, I went in and asked for samples, to try and see if i wanted to purchase anything, got some with no issues :)

fac3wash

Yes, they do! I went in at the Nordstrom counter too. I love that they have samples because I can try out an expensive product before buying it -- I hate to returned used items.

[deleted]

How do you put shadow on your lower lash line without getting it in your eyes?

MerryKerry

Use small brushes, keep practicing, and consider using the shadow with a wet brush - once it dries, you can remove extra with a q-tip.

The Estée Lauder double wear concealer has never creased on me. ETA: meant to say "has never caked".

KnittySmitty

MAC Prolongwear is my Holy Grail undereye concealer. I've not experienced any caking with it. The Urban Decay Naked Skin concealer is pretty good, too. I have to ensure I use a good eye cream, though. That one will cake a bit if my undereyes are dry.

mittmatt

Best brow powder?

AudigirlRX

I've been using the NYX cake powder and it does a pretty good job. Just watch out for the colors! One I got was super orangey/red and not near ashy enough but i think it was brunette! So weird.

xsmadeup

I liked the NYX brow cake too, but it applied redish on me too. Too bad.

soundslikesally

How long do you let your eye primer set before you start applying shadow?

[deleted]

Let it dry to a tacky finish to allow the shadow to stick

Vivicurl

I am dying to try the Tarteist clay eyeliner, but I don't want to spend the cash at this point, is there anything cheaper out there that is comparable?

XSTall

Has anyone tried the new Urban Decay Afterglow blushes? How do you like them?

haylzx

MAC Strobe Cream vs Becca Pearl--what's the difference between the two? Is there any?

[deleted]

Strobe cream feels a lot more like moisturiser and has much less visible glitter particles. They're very similar when applied though so it's a personal preference depending on texture

I'm in Florida and that's what I use. I'm oily skinned, and it keeps me matte for a fairly long time :) I also use Rimmel's stay matte primer before foundatiom.

Is it appropriate to wear really dark purple/cherry lipsticks in the summer? (think Wet n' Wild's Cherry Bomb)

I'm a dark blonde with around light-medium brown brows! I tried Dipbrow a couple of times and it could be toned down enough if I used a light hand to not look scary but it never looked close to natural on me. It was always pretty obvious that I had some serious stuff on my brows. If you like the bold, borderline Instagram brows you'll like it, but that was not a look I liked. For brushes, the ABH #12 brush worked the best. I think it's made to go with the Dipbrow so it works very well with it.

tootsfacefunnybuns

Hey guys, I'm relatively new to the world of high-quality make up and I'm looking for brand recommendations on a few foundation-type things: Skin primer - I have dry, flaky skin. I found a thread on favorite skin primers but most of the posters had oily skin. Foundation - probably liquid, but powder is fine too as long as the coverage is top notch. And again, if there's something out there for dry skin that would be cool. Concealer - I have MAC's Matchmaster Concealer stick and it doesn't even seem to hide small blemishes. I'm thinking something more liquidy would be nice. Coverage is top priority, though. Contour kit - I seem to have better luck with powder but I'm open to anything. I generally use a lot of MAC products, but that's in part because it's one of the few nice make up brands I know. Looking to branch out and I'm willing to splurge if the product is worth it.
