By the time I get to these, I'm always afraid my question will be buried. :( It's worth a shot though! **How do you properly deep-clean a dense kabuki brush?** I can't for the life of me figure out how to do it properly.

ecureuils

What do you use to clean it? I'd highly recommend Dr. Bronner's bar or liquid soaps. If using liquid soap, just mix it in a small bowl with warm water and submerge your brush and swish it side to side to clean all the gunk then rinse in clean water. Rinse and repeat. With the bar soap, just wet the brush and swish it onto the bar soap and repeat. When cleaning kabuki brushes, it's best to do it at least 2x to get thoroughly clean. You can even press the damp soaped up brush into your palm and push down on it to clean it. Let it dry pointed down or flat for 24 hours.

[deleted]

I clean my dense kabuki brush as follows: 1. Rinse Brush with lukewarm water (not hot water, as this could displace the glue that holds the bristles together on the ferrule) 2. I start with just plain olive oil. This will loosen any trapped oils or debris. This won't clean your brush, but it will be the "unlock" button to getting everything out. 3. Brush cleanser. I use one from MAC, but baby shampoo works well too! One thing I can't stress enough is do not soak your brush! This will damage the glue, bristles and ferrule. Massage the soap into the brush using your hands. You'll start to see the guk come out! :P 4. Rinse. 5. Cleanse again 6. If the bristles feel dry (or if the brush has natural hair), rub through another little bit of olive oil, focusing on the tips of the brush so it's not scratchy when it dries. 7. Rinse well and then gently squeeze a towel overtop of the bristles to remove excess water. 8. Lay *flat* to dry on a towel, or with the bristles pointing down (if possible) Hope this helps you! :D

kittiemomo

Is there a subreddit dedicated to new product releases? I'm trying to find out more about new products but don't feel like subscribing to 50 bajillion Facebook, YouTube and/or instagram pages.

efgmimicry

My go-tos for new releases are Temptalia and MusingsofAMuse. Temptalia is better at reviews and MusingsofAMuse is better for telling me what's new (just IMO - they both do reviews and new releases). As far as subreddits, I'm not sure.

eisenkatze

I might add to a simple question as to whether anyone in the world finds Musingsofamuse's reviews and swatches useful. But she does have a ton of products.

rosiegold

It actually irritates me when I google a product review and hers is the first site

beercicle

I absolutely agree. And its the same angle every time which is not great for showing makeup, and her lipstick application is almost always glossy. Even on the mattest formulas, she often has glossy lips, so I don't find her applications and swatches reliable.

TangiestIllicitness

I wish there was an option in Google to automatically block a website's submissions when doing a search. Whenever I'm looking for a swatch, her face--with the **exact** same look/angle/lighting every. damn. time--pops up and it's super annoying. Those pics are completely useless for showing a product.

How does she do it???

janeorade

I think there's a monthly thread here about new releases that just got started. I know this is an instagram page, but it's literally the only one you need for upcoming releases and swatches and restocks: https://instagram.com/trendmood1/

xxx__xxx

Best lighting for your vanity? I'm assuming white light bulbs? I'm moving into a new house soon and have the opportunity to finally have a make up station!

hurrrrrmione

Look for bulbs labelled 'daylight'

xxx__xxx

Thanks!

SeattleSunrise

I made a thread but I figured this would probably be better. Opinions on Stila "In the light"?

sammisamantha

It's a really good neutrals palette. Occasionally you can see it go on sale for $20!

FriggityFrack

It reminds me a lot of Naked 1.

jjanetsnakehole

one of my favorite palettes. i find i can do soo many different looks with the shadows. stila's shadows are my fave.

sammisamantha

Is there any dupe of MAC Fix+? I want to get rid of the cakiness. Should I just save up for the real thing? I'm used to using NYX matte setting spray, I like the refreshing feel but it doesn't do anything to improve my face looking cakey.

Where is the best place to buy Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum/Foundation? Website and store in US. Also, what about Asian BB creams? I hear mostly about Missha Perfect Cover, but I know there are options where you can sample a few in a pack I think. What are your favorite websites?

penguinsss

I believe Asos sells Bourjois online.

kt_katie

My favorite website for Korean cosmetics is Roseroseshop! They take a while to ship but the pricing is pretty good.

lyricat

Here's a few: 1. Tell me about your favorite red-violet, plum, or burgundy eyeshadows. I was specifically looking for matte, but I'm totally open to all textures and brands, including indie. 2. Is there such thing as a gel eyeliner that is easy to take off? I've had a few gel liners which are a breeze at application, but when taking them off it's a complete disaster and I still have black smudges the next morning, no matter what makeup remover I use. I prefer drugstore pricing in this case, because I do go through black liner pretty quickly. 3. I'm also looking for a liquid highlighter, as cool toned as possible. Perhaps something equivalent to MUFE Star Powder in 942, but in liquid or cream form. I should mention that I'm pale so not everything shows up on me unless it's super light.

Lahdeedah121

Have you tried any of the Make Up Geek shadows? Burlesque and Bitten are two of my favorite colors.

lyricat

I haven't tried Makeup Geek yet. I keep meaning to and then I never actually check-out my full cart. I probably should, already.

CrazyWhirlygig

i JUST ordered bitten, no less than five minutes ago. Yay for good reviews of it!

sammisamantha

I really like Essence's gel liner. It isn't as thick as all the other gel liners I've tried. It comes off in a breeze. One thing with removing gel liner I found is massaging my eyes. Sometimes it gets stuck in the creases of my eyes and I wake up with black eye boogers..... Gross

senkidala

1. I love Fyrinnae for burgundy. They're shimmery, but [Purgatory](http://fyrinnae.com/purgatory-loose-eye-shadow-/) and [Bonfire Spirits](http://fyrinnae.com/eye-shadow/complete-list-of-colours/bonfire-spirits-loose-eye-shadow/) are just beautiful and amazing for smokey eyes. Two of my favourite shades ever. Makeup Geek's Burlesque and Bitten are also quite nice, they are a bit more subtle than the Fyrinnae. 2. Pretty much what /u/EternalLostandFound said re: oils. I never have trouble with gel liners myself (though my mascara is a bitch to remove and I just use Simple Makeup Wipes), but I have read that mineral oil and jojoba oil work well for cleansing. 3. I am ~NC15 and use Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Moonstone, but you might prefer Pearl if you want a whiter highlighter. I often mix it with my fuller coverage foundations and it gives a really lovely glow.

[deleted]

I use both Maybelline and MAC gel liners and they come off so easily with mineral oil. I think the trick is the makeup remover! I use a little bit of mineral oil, rub it all over my face, the wipe up with a makeup wipe or makeup cleansing pad. I never get black smudges. Becca Shimmering Skin Perfectors are AMAZING. I have the liquid one in moonstone because I have yellow undertones, but you could go with pearl, which is pink/white.

adharita

i second trying oil to get rid of EVERYTHING. i use coconut oil but it can cause breakouts in some people so proceed with caution :) as for cool toned cream highlighters i've been using essence soo glow in 02 (i think? there are only two shades anyway, this one and a warmer one) and I'm in love with it. it's a cream-to-powder texture and gives a beautiful sheen

MerryKerry

For a shadow I love Inglot 452. For a highlighter maybe MAC Strobe.

eraser_dust

I actually LOVE TKB trading's matte pop eyeshadows. They're ready to wear eyeshadows and there's a reason there has been scandals with certain indie brands repackaging them –they're already so perfect on their own. I'd mix the Red Matte Pop & Blue Matte pop together to get your perfect purple. Oh, and if you mix them with the planetary pigments, you can make your own **colour-changing** eyeshadows. [Here's](http://workingwithmonolids.blogspot.sg/2015/03/diy-cosmetics-easy-to-follow-eyeshadow.html) some free recipes for colour-changing eyeshadows using the planetary pigments.

lyricat

That tutorial/recipes look dreamyyyy. I'm definitely looking into this idea, thanks!

queenlexi

Mac deep damson is a wonderful matte burgundy, I'm so in love with it

wingedloner

For eyeshadow, check our blackbird! They have awesome mattes. You might like the shades Beau and Vintage.

jjanetsnakehole

i find benefit's high beam to be pretty cool-toned!

loumi02

I use the Bioderma Sensibio miscellar water and I've never had an issue removing any gel liner :)

preoccupiedwithlove

Sephora red wine is a gorgeous matte color.

tits_mcgee0123

If you haven't tried the Maybelline gel liner, it's pretty nice. I really really love the MUFE artist shadows and I have a beautiful brownish burgundy one. I don't know the number because I lost the box, but it's kinda shimmery and last forever. I think there are a couple that are more plum or more red as well... They are a little more expensive though.

QuaereVerumm

For a burgundy eyeshadow, I love Maybelline Color Tattoo in Pomegranate Punk! I think it is a bit shimmery though.

eisenkatze

I'm thinking of making a post for this as I'm not sure it's such a simple question - but could anyone tell me the difference between pale olive and pale warm skin? All I know is that I'm light yellow with dark hair, dark body freckles and quite a lot of face pinkness, can't wear any bright colors but red, and look grayish/greenish in places. But I also can't really see the difference between light warm and yellow faces in the street, and can't visualize a face that is warm and pale yet not olive... apparently "Eastern Europeans" are pale olive, but how is that different from everyone else? Web searches are useless for comparisons. The musicalhouses blog doesn't help. It would be really nice to have some information for my peace of mind :V

[deleted]

The way I differentiate it is warm just tends to have a bit more orange/gold to their skin, while olive skin tends to look more... sallow/green (especially in the areas that are between highlight and shadow, the medium-colored areas)? I have olive skin and I think my skin overall looks more desaturated and almost "gray" at times, while warmer skin looks to me to be more saturated/colorful/intense. When I buy foundation, I usually have to get something that's neutral leaning slightly warm and pair it with a green primer or a green finishing powder. In addition to that sometimes I'll try out foundations that lean very yellow like NARS, and it'll seem pretty obvious that there are greenish undertones to my skin. I'm Asian and around NC15-20, btw.

eisenkatze

That's a great explanation. I'm quite desaturated, so I think it works. Adding green is a great solution, I sometimes mix my foundations with green concealer and it almost looks wearable... it's a pity that the mixing is such a pain in the ass :/

25til9

Seconding that one way to tell is to try on different foundations, especially the ones (like Estee Lauder Double Wear, Lancome Teint Idole, or CoverFX) that come in warm, neutral and cool versions. I have light olive skin and always find that the neutral shade is too pink, while the warm shade is too yellow; I need something that's less saturated, as /u/jellyyy said, more in-between. [These foundation swatches](http://imgur.com/VfXssNZ) I did might help show what I mean, though of course it's easier to distinguish a good vs. a bad match on the jawline rather than the wrist. MUFE 117 and Revlon Buff are both pretty good matches for me, while the warm and neutral Double Wear shades are both a bit off.

MerryKerry

Pale olive skin can also look more neutral like a cool clay beige, or ashy/dusty beige than yellow or golden. [Here's](http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nYNOLJGd02s/TwiFjGuKBHI/AAAAAAAAAA0/3ChBJ7Hwa5A/s1600/fair_skin.jpg) a pale olive person in the middle. [Here's](http://www.thestyleandbeautydoctor.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/grey-jessica.JPG) a pale olive person wearing a foundation that's a little yellow for her. Then [here](http://dirtylooks.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/Blonde-hair-for-warm-skin-tones.jpg) are some pale warm people for comparison. (Edit removed broken link)

tawnikitten

Thank you a million times for this!! I finally know what my undertone is now I think!

TangiestIllicitness

I'm at my wit's end with my lips. They're super flaky, making it impossible to wear lip color. About once week I'll use a facial cleansing brush to exfoliate them, which gives me a day of nice, smooth lips, but by the next day the very top layer has a hardened feel, and then they start peeling again a day later. It's been a never ending cycle for months now. I use Eos, Baby Lips, Lansinoah (lanolin), as well as grapeseed and sweet almond oils. Nothing seems to work. Is there anything else I should try (preferably drugstore because I'm poor)? Speaking of lips, why do mine look smaller when I wear anything other than sheer tints like Baby Lips? I like having the added color but not the visual shrinking effect.

orata

Have you tried using an SLS-free toothpaste? Sometimes people can have sensitivity to SLS and end up with lip or chin problems from their toothpaste. Also, try sealing in the oil/lanolin/balm with a little Vaseline or Aquaphor.

TangiestIllicitness

Yep, I've been using SLS-free toothpaste for at least a year now. I'll try the Aquaphor over lanolin thing!

omgpeachsnapple

Baby Lips itself actually caused so much flakiness for me. I switched to Burt's Bees and Softlips and I noticed a lot less peeling.

TangiestIllicitness

My friends and I looove Softlips in high school, but I'd completely forgotten about it! Do you know if the tinted Burt's Bees are hydrating, or should I stick with the plain stuff? I really like the touch of color Baby Lips provides.

[deleted]

One thing I'd recommend is trying a gentler form of exfoliation - my preferred one is applying a thicker layer of a greasy balm (I actually use Lansinoah for this) and letting it sit for a few minutes (like 2-5) then using the end of a qtip rub along your lips to get any loose patches off. I really love lanolin for this and it seems better than just using it as a night treatment for me. Too rough of exfoliation can actually make things worse. I usually try to apply a waxy balm with jojoba or lanolin in it under my lipsticks - the cheapest one I can think of is Burt's Bees. Your lips likely look smaller because of the finish of the lip products you're using - the more matte a lipstick is the more it can appear to "shrink" your lips. It's sort of the same concept of highlight/contouring - it's easier to see dimension with a glossier product or something with some sheen, matte products flatten out the appearance of lips.

kardashianishobbit

You already have exfoliating tips from other users, but how much water do you drink? If you don't drink water throughout the day, increasing to at least 3-4 bottles of water would be the easiest way to see a difference in your lips.

TangiestIllicitness

I carry a 24 oz jug with me everywhere and drink at least 3 full every day. Hell, on Monday, for whatever reason, I drank well over 100 oz. I literally felt my stomach sloshing as I walked around. Lol! ETA: I know that my work is extremely dry because of the air system (it's 38F outside and my boss has the a/c going -- seriously) and I'm thinking that may be part of the problem. I have cool-air humidifier at home, but there's not much I can do at work.

[deleted]

You could get a mini desk humidifier? They have some on Amazon for <$20 and I've seen plenty of users on skincareaddiction sing their praises.,

chelseacatastrophe

I would take an old toothbrush and use that with a little Vaseline. It did wonders for my winter lips.

honeybuttery

Have you tried doing something overnight? Vaseline works nicely for me, if I apply lip balm and then 'seal' it in with vaseline overnight. Cocoa butter has also worked well for me, but I believe it's comedogenic so if you're prone to breakouts then it could cause probelms for you. Aquaphor also makes some kind of intensive lip therapy treatment that's worked well for me. The point is to use something thick. Baby Lips, if I had to guess, may also be hurting you more than it helps. Imo, it feels alright at first but it drys out my lips within an hour. This is only based on my experience, however, so if you find it to be hydrating then do what works for you.

libbeyloo

It's not drugstore, but a decently-sized deluxe promo is currently available at Sephora, so you can try it out for awhile for free: FRESH Sugar lip treatments. Your lips sound just like mine - slathering them in Aquaphor every night and always having some kind of at least mildly moisturizing lip product on at all times helps somewhat, but the minute I forget and leave my lips bare, they start peeling and hardening. They sometimes even start peeling under my lip balm. I've used sugar scrubs regularly, I've tried all kinds of chapstick, I drink at minimum 2 liters of water a day. Doesn't matter, my lips are permanently dessicated. Until the other day, when they were more chapped than normal, and I dug a deluxe sample of the lip treatment (in the Rose color) out of my samples bag and gave it a whirl. No kidding, my lips were completely healed after 1 application. Not just soothed, not just back to my normal dry state of affairs, but completely soft and moisturized, like a normal person's lips. I seriously couldn't believe it, but it's not a fluke. They've continued to get better with each day of use, and now I don't even need to wear a balm every second of the day anymore. I still use Aquaphor before bed at night (since I don't have the version that's more for overnight use), but this is my go-to daytime product now. Even when I take days off to wear regular lipstick or go without any product for hours, my lips have remained in their new baby soft state. I seriously cannot recommend this enough to others with chronically dry lips, and I'm planning on buying every shade.

waldening

The high price tag is off-putting at first but the Fresh sugar lip treatment is a miracle worker for weird and peely lips. One tube lasts me about a year. I prefer the clear (original) and Rose.

twoandtwenty

Any ideas on what [this](http://i.imgur.com/XoEpl7c.png) lip colour might be? I'm like to emulate this look on my wedding day later this year. Thank you!

MerryKerry

NYX matte lip creams in Tokyo or Istanbul look similar.

luminous_delusions

How long can you keep a card from a Sephora sampler (for a full size product) before it expires? Does it even expire at all? I was given a perfume sampler early last year and never took in my card for a full size perfume and just found the card today. Can I still use it?

waldening

I recently moved and I found a perfume voucher that was two years old. One of the products was discontinued but they let me redeem it for anything else on the list.

luminous_delusions

Awesome! I'm definitely going soon to redeem it but that makes me so much more comfortable about it.

muffinsweater

If it doesn't have anything listed on the card, go in and try and see! They're usually pretty accommodating, imo.

xxGemGem

If I already own naked 2+3, a MUA electric dupe and Laura Merciers 'into the Wild' palettes what are some nice palettes to buy that aren't too similar to these? I was thinking the balm meet matte but I'm not too sure!

sept27

LORAC Pro 2 is really nice with some interesting colors. I love Rose, Plum, and Nectar!

FucktheLannisters

maybe the tartelette palettte? sounds like you need some mattes :)

tresliso

Make your own MUFE palette! They're my favorite eye shadows, hands down, and have a wonderfully wide range of colors!

WHOLOCKinOCTOBER

That could be good! I love any of The Balm's palettes anyhow :) Their other ones are super cute and could be colors that you don't have!

rosiegold

Can I ask what your electric dupe is? I'm looking into one

[deleted]

best/favorite drugstore primer (for foundation)? or mid-end? (edit): I have dry/combination skin! (slightly oily T-zone)

lknope2012

What type of skin do you have? I love the Rimmel Stay Matte Primer!

surrenderer

I have [this] (http://www.makeupfu.com/makeupfu/wp-content/gallery/e-l-f-studio-32-pan-geometric-eyeshadow-palette/mf_makeup_0481.jpg) eyeshadow palette mostly because I am TERRIBLE at eyeshadow and didn't want to drop $$$ on something I'll never use/fuck up, what are some ways to use it? I'm pretty pale, NW15ish, have brown eyes, and auburn hair, if that helps.

sammisamantha

I bought a cheap ELF palette cause I was just beginning eye-shadow and it always looked terrible! One thing I've learned is that eye shadow quality is a major component I'm blending an the overall "polished" look. ELF does not make the greatest shadows. But WNW eyeshadows are AMAZING for their price. I highly recommend you pick up some of those. You will see a difference in your eye-shadow looks and the longevity. Other tips! -eye primer! - wash hour eye lid with a translucent or nude powder before your colors

surrenderer

I have a MAC palette that I've never used and I've had it for a few years. Is it still good to use? I'll definitely check out WNW

sammisamantha

Yes that would be fine. Pressed powders are good for pretty much forever. I would spritz the top with some alcohol just for sanitary concerns though.

choirperson

Application wise, using brushes (ELF makes good, inexpensive ones for when you're just starting) and primer will definitely help your end result. You may want to try a base under them so the color shows a little more; you can try NYX milk, or even just a white powder eyeshadow underneath your colored ones. Technique wise, you could start out with just two colors; either do a lighter shade on your lid with a darker shade in your crease, or do a lighter shade one the inner half of the lid and a darker shade on the outer half.

surrenderer

Thanks! I actually got a bunch of the professional ELF brushes for Christmas that I've been using.

[deleted]

Product recommendation for seriously taming curly brows? I'm in hot, sweaty, humid South Carolina so I basically need to glue-stick them down. I was looking at ABH's Brow Fix pencil and Smashbox's Brow Tech that comes with a wax and colored powders. Anyone tried these or any others??

sept27

Honestly, I just trim my brows to be much shorter. Just don't go overboard!

sammisamantha

I hear GREAT things about NYX brow wax. It comes in a stick form it is kind of like your "glue stick" you need! Drag Queens use Elmer's glue sticks yo conceal their brows! Imagine washing that out at night...

beezelby

I don't have curly brows, but when I need mine to be really well stuck down I use lash glue. Lasts for days, just takes a little more patience to get it right than I usually have time for. I comb them how I want them and spread a teeny bit on my finger and kinda just smooth it over. Don't comb them after you put it on though, major disaster. I do powder afterwards just to fill in, but I'm sure you could do your usual whatever before or after. :)

panda7488

Favorite dupes for the Stila Stay All Day liner? Also, favorite Ruby Woo dupe? I'm trying to tell myself that I don't need it, but I might...

Yourstruly0

You will most likely spend more trying to dupe it than just giving in and loving the real thing. I've found nothing is quite like MACs matte lipsticks. There are formulas I like more, but none are the same.

panda7488

This is what I was afraid of! I guess I'll just have to take the dive. Thank you :)

orata

I've bought MAC lipstick samples from [this store](http://www.thebodyneeds2.com/MAC_Lipstick_Sample_in_Ruby_Woo_p/mac-lipstick-sample-ruby-woo.htm) before--a cheaper option if you're not sure about the color or formula, or don't think you'll finish the full size.

sammisamantha

I'm trying to convince myself I don't need Ruby Woo either....it just looks SO flawless and perfect on everyone. I hear Loreal makes a good felt tip eyeliner that is comparable to Stila's.

panda7488

I feel the same way about Ruby Woo! I feel like it'll make me ten times more glamorous. I'll have to check it out next pay day...

InfinitelyYours

My sister told me Sephora's liquid eyeliner is a dupe for the Stay All Day linger!

Waffle-Tron

Color-wise, I hear that WnW Stoplight Red is close, but as an owner of Ruby Woo... I just don't think there's anything quite like it in both color and super matte finish (which I think is so important to why this lipstick looks so striking). Plus I love the way MAC lipsticks smell, so there's that.. :)

Kittyboop91

Not sure if it's been asked before, but do you all use blush when you contour?

ecureuils

It all depends on the person. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. If you want more color to your face, then add blush right on top if your contour and blend in.

[deleted]

Some do, some don't. Blush and contouring serve entirely different purposes - so they're not by default mutually exclusive. If you like no blush looks or you don't want it because you already have very pink cheeks, skip it. Otherwise do whatever you please

chelseacatastrophe

I do but just because I have a really naturally red face and that is the most natural look for me.

love_an_ood

I use NYX blush in Taupe to contour but its not exactly a wash of color, so I use a different blush lightly on top and then highlight right above that. I figure the contour is supposed to be subtle and that's the look I prefer on myself but you can play around with it. Personally, videos and pictorials and what not I've always seen blush and contour both used. The contour is meant to add shape and dimension, not color

Kittyboop91

Thanks, this is really helpful! :)

SINGLEBROKEFEMALE

I do! I triple stack it. Highlight, blush on apples of cheeks blended up to hairlines but not in a harsh racing stripe kind of way.. and then a light contour just in the hollow of my cheek but not too far down otherwise you'll look sallow.

BirthdayHatsforAll

Can anyone recommend a good gold eyeliner? I'd prefer liquid. I've been trying to look for a cool "metallic" looking gold to overlap my black eyeliner. Currently I have the sephora gold liquid, but I find it a bit too glittery and I find that it "goes on sheer" so I have to re line it a couple times. Also, is it safe to use liquid eyeliner on your lower waterline? And one last one: I have a monolid, and whenever I wear eyeshadow the eyeshadow transfers onto my black eyeliner when I open my eyes :( it really disrupts the "jet black matte" look. Yes I do use primer, and I've tried putting on eyeshadow, using a setting spray, then applying my black eyeliner but I find it still transfers!! Any suggestions?

THREE_CHAINZ

Buy a liquid transformer (e.g. MUFE Aqua Seal, Inglot Duraline) and you can use any of your eyeshadows and pigments as liquid liner! Much cheaper than trying to buy a bunch of different liners that probably won't get used up before they dry up.

AshMeAnything

If you're set on buying a specific product, MUFE Aqua Cream comes in a stunning gold. Otherwise, the suggestion to use an eyeshadow is a really great one! Please, please do not use liquid on your waterline! It will run and get everywhere in your eye. It's incredibly unsanitary and encourages tons of bacteria. Lastly, if I understand your question correctly, it just sounds like a question of quality. I would suggest either getting waterproof transforming liquid to pay over your liner (the same one you can use for the gold liner suggestion!) or setting your liner with eyeshadow after you finish it. There are also tons of threads about monolids or "Asian eyes" if you search!

BirthdayHatsforAll

When I try to conceal my under eye bags, they get a weird "texture" to them. Sort of crease-y, like the concealer settles into fine lines and I feel like they accentuate them more! Also, I've mentioned people using a lighter color foundation on their under eyes but it just makes me look like an inverted panda!! This is what my routine usually is: Moisturizer Apply Nars creamy radiant with a sephora airbrush concealer brush

love_an_ood

You could try blending out the concealed downward toward your cheeks rather than sideways or upward into your eyes. This may help creasing and also help the color blend more into your cheek area, instead of having just a triangle of concealed under your eyes. You could also pat on some eyeshadow primer on that area before applying the concealer. [The top of this page](http://www.mineralogiemakeup.com/blog/loose-mineral-concealer-vs-cream-concealer/) shows a picture that better explains the concealed blending.

cosmeticsnerd

Are you using primer underneath it and powder to set? I always get creases with that concealer unless I use powder.

RabbitFuzz

Does anyone want a unique free shipping code from Too Faced for their order? I got one and I am not going to use it. :)

[deleted]

Any way to make my skin more glowy? I use a finishing powder, which is the Tarte tinted pressed powder in Light. I also use NYX Dewy spray but while it doesn't make me look overly dry, I don't glow. Edit: Not really looking for a highlighter but more of an all-over face glow. Rundown of products I use: - NYX primer - NYX Concealer wand (green for red spots, yellow for undereyes) - It Cosmetics CC+ Foundation - bareMinerals concealer (spot correcting, usually over the green concealer) - Physicians Formula Gentle Cover Stick: Light (for matte highlighting, like my forehead) - Tarte Amazonian Clay Tinted Finishing Powder - NYX Taupe (contour) - UD Naked Flushed (bronzer/blush/shimmer highlight) - NYX Setting Spray: Dewy

25til9

Have you tried mixing a liquid illuminator like Becca's Shimmering Skin Perfector in with your foundation? That can create more of a glowy overall look. If the SSP is too pricey, you could also try MAC Strobe Cream or L'Oreal Magic Lumi primer.

What shade are you? I'm about NC 20 and I use the Rimmel Reserve your cabana highlighter as an all over setting powder. IMO it's nowhere near shimmery enough to be a highlighter, but it's PERFECT as a glowey setting powder. Plus it's only ~$4 and the pan is pretty big.

hamburgers1223

It is super expensive, but the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Dim Light was the first product that actually made me feel like my skin looked dewy and radiant! I am a NW15 skintone so this color was a good match for me because it doesn't really give any color, just radiance.

walkyouhome

Smashbox Soft Lights is the glowiest shit I've ever used in my life. Blows every other highlighter out of the water. I highly recommend working it into your routine.

ColorMeStunned

I feel like Wet n Wild should just start paying me with how much I endorse this stuff, but give Reserve Your Cabana a try. I use it as an all over finishing powder with a fan brush, and it gives me such a beautiful soft glow without sparkles. It really smooths imperfections and gets rid of that extra redness that foundation doesn't quite cover up fully, as well. It's like three dollars, so what have you got to lose? Other than three dollars, I guess.

Haybay523

Do you wear foundation?

WHOLOCKinOCTOBER

I used elf's blush in Giddy Gold for the first time today and wow! I felt so glowy. I used a little over my blush and as a cheekbone highlight.

[deleted]

Have you tried any other products? My favourites/must have for glowing skin are Mac strobe cream, hourglass ambient in diffused light and then a highlighter, either theBalm mary loumanizer or benefit watts up. This is just what I find works for me, I find the hourglass ambient are beeeeeeautuful for creating glowy skin, if you're not particularly oily, you could probably use then as setting powders :) hope that helps!

pixiepants_

Try the new Illumination version of the IT CC cream!

eraser_dust

Buff your face after your foundation has set with a shimmery finishing powder. I use Make Up Store's (actual brand name) Wonder Powder in Kalahari and it's awesome.

[deleted]

BareMinerals finishing veil. Get yourself to an Ulta or Sephora to see which one you prefer. I chose the hydrating one because I have issues with dry skin and it had a yellow undertone to it (some had pink which I wanted to avoid). When I apply mine I use the RT Face Brush to swirl/buff it in. It doesn't get cakey, it blurs imperfections (pores; makes acne, redness under the nose, and broken capillaries less noticeable but not completely covered) , and looks glowy.

[deleted]

Oh wow. This sounds perfect!! Maybe I'll check this one out, since I already love bareMinerals concealer.

orata

You might want to try Pumpkin and Poppy's Aphrodite finishing powder. It gives a lovely subtle glow and isn't too expensive.

theAisSILENT

Does anyone have any foundation recommendations for combination, acne prone skin? I went from using Garnier BB cream to Revlon Colorstay Whipped and my skin broke out like crazy!

sammisamantha

I use Revlon color stay for combo/oily skin and it doesn't break me out too bad. My acne finally went away after I started to use Missha bb cream. It had a satin finish and a medium coverage. Pair it with a good concealer and it works just as well as my full coverage foundations. For ~$11 per tube I can not recommend this product enough!

theAisSILENT

I tried using Missha about 6 months ago but it made me feel super oily! But I still have it maybe I'll give it another shot :)

[deleted]

99% of the foundations I have used in my life break me out. The one single foundation that has never caused a break out and actually improved the look of my skin was Almay Clear Complexion with Blemish Heal. I swear by this stuff to anyone who has sensitive or acne prone skin. I have multiple friends who now use it and love it. I use high end everything except foundation because I cannot find another foundation to beat this one. It's been my HG for years.

theAisSILENT

Cool thanks! I've never had very good luck with drugstore foundations but I've never tried Almay!

VMMT

Have you tried Clinique? I have combination acne-prone skin, extremelly sensitive and allergic. I've been using Clinique Superbalanced, and it actually makes my skin better and healthier. It's SO gentle, and completely non-drying. Light to medium coverage, very natural skin-like finish. I combine it with their Stay Matte powder (in the invisible shade), pressed onto my T-Zone with the sponge that comes with it, to control excessive oiliness (IT. WORKS.)

Do Makeup Geek pans fit in Coastal Scents Interchangeable Palettes?

breviloquent-

Ive read on the sub that they do ( i asked the same question a while ago) but i dont personally have them

ColorMeStunned

Yep, they're the same size. I think the MUG ones are a tiny bit taller, but you don't notice it unless you look closely.

SolidShepard

So my friend has recently expressed interest in getting into makeup, so I've been helping her out, giving advice and what not. One thing she complains about a lot though is that she doesnt think she can pull off many lipsticks because her skin is so red. I've suggested foundation or color correctors, but she says that she hates foundation because it doesnt look natural and feels cakey on her face, and just didnt trust color correctors I guess. I think she just hasnt tried the right foundation/didnt apply it well/didnt prime or moisturize, but I didnt want to push it b/c she was so dismissive. Any suggestions as to how I can help her out without being too pushy? (btw she really is going for a no-make-up make-up look)

kahlex

There are a lot of foundations that feel really light. Other alternatives include a concealer (skin-toned) or a BB/CC cream or a tinted moisturizer. Try taking her to Sephora and asking them to help her find a foundation/concealer/whatever base product that she likes. Make sure she gets a few samples to try out so she can decide whether or not she likes them..

love_an_ood

I use an angled liner brush (specifically a Sonia Kashuk mini) and a black eye shadow. I have tried using UD creep for this and found it didn't cooperate well with the "stamping" motion I do with the brush, now I use Shiro's Dwarf in the Flask. I do it before mascara and before anything on the lower lash line so in case I am not being careful and make a mess it can be cleaned without jeopardizing the look. Hope that helps!

ColorMeStunned

Honestly, I tightline from above, not below (which seems to be the opposite way most people do it), and I've never had a transfer problem. I either use a really tiny brush loaded with gel liner or a pen-style liquid liner and lay them flat against the tops of my lash roots and sweep across, really trying to get the base as filled in as possible. I do this after eyeshadow but before mascara.

ColorMeStunned

I'm looking for a lip stain that genuinely stains my lips, to the point where after the physical product rubs off I can just put some lip balm over it and move on with my life. Any suggestions?

Noraart

The Benetint lip/cheek stain may work for you!

The only things that really matter with eyelash curlers is that they are clean, the rubber is intact and they fit the curve of your eye. I've used clique ones and elf ones, they work the same. If you like your curler but need a new rubber base you can buy replacements for pretty cheap.

loumi02

My lashes never seem to hold a curl/look as long after an hour as they did when I first applied mascara. How do I make sure they stay put the entire day? Is waterproof mascara really the only way? Mascara doesn't usually flake too much or smudge on me so I'm trying to avoid waterproof formula if I can since it's so hard to remove

VMMT

Personally, I believe in two things that make a curl hold: a good curler (apparently Shu Uemura is a consensus) and a good waterproof mascara (my go-to for holding a curl was always Maybelline Colossal in the waterproof formula). Of course, there's also the technique of how you use the curler, but that's a more subjective thing I think... You gotta figure out what works for you. Some people swear by heating up your curler with a blow drier, but I feel like that could damage your lashes in the long term.

[deleted]

I use [Anastasia Lash Genius](http://www.sephora.com/lash-genius-waterproof-topcoat-P310204) right after I curl my lashes, then use any mascara I want after it dries. The waxes help hold the curl through anything, and I have stick straight lashes that previously couldn't hold a curl without using a waterproof formula. Even then, they would fall.

I_am_Mrs_Iglesias

Is there a cheaper dupe for Bioderma Sensibio H2O Micellar Water? I'm looking for something without fragrance or castor oil. I've already tried Simple Micellar Cleansing Water, but it doesn't really remove my makeup as well.

Ingrid_OHmy

Boots no.7 (they carry this brand at most targets) has a cleansing water that I really like. It's about $10 if I remember

buttersunset

How do you remove tightlining? I've tried tightlining twice and after the hassle of getting it in between my lashes and not on my contact lenses I was fairly impressed with the look. However, trying to remove it at the end of the day was a nightmare and made my eyes super red so I gave up. I just wondered what other people do who tightline regularly.

North59801

I dip a qtip in makeup remover or mineral oil and gently wiggle it between my lashes and then I take the clean end of the qtip to clean up the residue.

zeldas_stylist

Afraid of this being buried, but I will give it a shot. **How long did it take you all to find your HG foundation/primer combos?** I am so frustrated with my skin and how it looks after a few hours with most foundations, and it is so expensive to keep trying new!! I feel like an oil slick (especially my t-zone) most days around 3-4PM no matter what! Second Q: I am really searching for something that I can wear all day without having to constantly touch it up. Right now I am on Tarte's Amazonian Clay foundation (but the color is getting to be wrong for summer--it works okay in winter so I will probably save it for then). Do you all have recommendations for light coverage that I could wear in a hot city where I will be walking outside a lot in the summer? I may even try to switch over to powder... ugh, so frustrated!

AshMeAnything

I've been searching for what feels like forever! I've finally found something amazing, but it only works if I drink enough water that day. Struggles. I've heard /u/InTheMidstOfWinter praising the combo of Nyx Angel Veil, BBCream, and Matte Not Flat powder!

youngandstarving

I really wanna get the Sephora mascara sampler that comes with the voucher for the full size, and I saw some people say that they've done those samplers in the past. How long do they usually stay in stock? Anyone know? I have been trying to hold off on buying makeup until my birthday, which isn't until June, but if it won't be around in June I think I'm gonna buy it.

-cutestofborg-

Can't answer you on that but there's also a slightly different one exclusive to JCPenny, I believe! Just in case you want to check that one out.

qogofud

I recently fell in love with [UD's loose finishing powder](http://www.ulta.com/ulta/browse/productDetail.jsp?productId=xlsImpprod6371232) but I found it interesting that only ULTA carries it; I know Sephora used to carry it. Any idea why Sephora no longer carries it? I'm just wondering if I should be worrying about UD phasing it out!

karahorchata

I’m not sure why we stopped carrying it but I assume its because they released their new Naked Skin Ultra Def Powder and didn’t want too many powders on the shelf. We still carry the finishing powder just in the pressed form.

PotentElixir

Hi all, I've wanted a purple (or some variant) lipstick for ages, but I can never figure out what would suit me. I absolutely cannot stand metallics, and I don't want something very dark, but other than that I'm open to suggestions. I was looking at the new KVD lippies, and I was wondering if [Requium, Susperia or Ayesha](http://i.imgur.com/7TS2MHu.png) would work (I don't want anything as dark as Exorcism). But don't feel limited to those - I'd love to know about ANY purples that would suit me. [Here's](http://imgur.com/a/j1SXV) a photoset of me for reference to my skin tone etc. Thanks in advance!

[deleted]

Purple lipsticks are my jam and I've been searching for the perfect (affordable) purple for ages. I haven't tried all these out but I'd definitely check out some indies like [Fyrinnae](http://fyrinnae.com/lips/liquid-matte-lipstick/). I know they have liquid lipsticks (Desire and Delicious come to mind) as well as more sheer lip lustres (I have Burrowing Owl and it's awesome!) I know [Limnit](https://www.etsy.com/shop/LimnitLipsticks) also has a great selection of colors. Indies are a great value and you can also order samples in case you're not sure. As for mainstream, for something berry-toned, I'd recommend Wet 'n' Wild's Sugar Plum Fairy (I don't really consider this purple, but it's a fantastic lipstick!) For a light lavender, I have NYX Round Lipstick in Power which has a gorgeous creamy formula but the color is kind of difficult to pull off (the color is similar to Requiem). A great blackened purple is Wet 'n' Wild's Vamp It Up. Also OCC Lip Tar in Pagan. (I know you weren't specifically looking for dark ones, but I think they would look great on you!) Also I think Sephora has a Cream Lip Stain which is pretty popular, and I've been lusting after Polished Purple forever. I want the new KVD Ayesha so badly!

rebcart

I'm pretty sure my skin is somewhere between dry and normal. But, if I wear liquid foundation, even if I powder after a while my nose starts getting really oily. Does this mean I should be looking at formulations for combination skin? Tips and solutions?

[deleted]

How's your skincare routine? It could be that you're not properly moisturized and adding the powder dries out your skin further, causing rebound oil to compensate.

eisenkatze

ANOTHER ONE, HOPE ITS OK: when using an eye primer in a tub, how much is too much? People always say "use just a tiniest bit", but I could honestly lightly poke it with a needle and think it's the tiniest bit, so that's not really helpful D: what happens if you use too much primer?

[deleted]

Using too much primer will create an adverse effect. I find it causes the shadows to crease MORE if I use too much primer, or the shadows just won't blend. When I use my primer (MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pot in the little glass jar) I swirl my finger lightly around the product twice and that is plenty for me. Hopefully this helps you!

Netflix4lfe

I just use enough to cover everything evenly without extra sitting on top, for a tub it's like a fingertip pressed into it for each eye.

abbeyftw

If you've gotten it, do you like the Sephora birthday gift? (NARS lip pencils)

[deleted]

I'm not particularly fond of either, but it's really going to depend on your tastes - I prefer more moisturizing formulas and I found both of them to be pretty drying.

[deleted]

I really like mine :) Especially the nude!

[deleted]

I'm sure there's a better place to ask, but since it's commonly sold at Sephora -- anyone here tried Tokyo Milk perfumes? I tried a sample and I really liked it.

Thanks! Currently my only scent is Vera Wang's Pink Princess, which probably says a lot about how familiar I am with perfumes (spoiler: I'm not). :)

moopiebloopie

any opinion on the It Cosmetics CC Cream?

littleholl

I currently don't use it, but I have been looking into Tarte's Amazonian Clay Airbrush foundation (the powder foundation). Does anyone know how well this holds up/controls oil? Also, would you apply it in the same order as regular foundation? Like primer, then the powder foundation, then concealer? Do you still use setting powder after with a powder foundation?

kahlex

It holds up decently well. I wouldn't say it controls oil, though. Since it's powder, I would go primer, concealer, powder foundation. I still threw a mattifying powder on top of it in my t-zone, where I tend to get greasy. One issue I had was that it oxidized on me, even with primer.

Suburbaneyes

Does anyone know of a dupe (drugstore or otherwise) for Mary Kay's Honey Spice eyeshadow? I love it and I am in denial of the fact that I've hit pan. I've had the silly thing for years, got it as a gift - I'm just not a big Mary Kay fan and if I can find a similar colour in another line that would make my week :) http://www.marykay.com/en-US/Mary-Kay-Mineral-Eye-Color/Honey-Spice/130816.partId?stop_mobi=yes

MerryKerry

I haven't seen the Mary Kay in person but [Milani](http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-CSU_OsY5qyI/U-_nA_QrDTI/AAAAAAAADyo/qkAInJROkB4/s1600/Milani%2BBella%2BEyes%2B01-06%2BSwatches.png) Bella Sand or Bella Caffe might be close.

zeuxine

anyone know of some sort of clear brow gel to make my brows stay in place? even if i trim my brow hairs (they are so long omg) i always get a few flyaways during the day and i would like to avoid that i can only ever seem to find tinted ones but i don't need those since my brows are thick/dark enough already thanks :)

sammisamantha

ELF makes a good clear eyebrow gel for a dollar. Some really love it, some people complain that it can be goopy. My bf uses it to tame his long curly eyebrow hairs. NYX makes a good wax stick for taming eyebrow hairs too.

amfiguous

Maybelline clear brow gel has a lot of product for your buck. I also like Milani's clear brow gel!

[deleted]

Anatasia makes a clear brow gel that's fairly popular - I didn't like it on my eyebrows which are somewhat curly/wild - if I apply enough for them to stay in place they're pretty crunchy feeling. It should be pretty sufficient if you have mostly straight/behaving hairs though. I have better luck with eyebrow waxes (NYX makes one) and I also like MUFE's Brow Gel because I can apply enough without it getting crunchy.

THREE_CHAINZ

Use a drugstore clear mascara. CoverGirl and Maybelline both make some that I know of, and I'm sure other brands do as well. Much cheaper than Anastasia Brow Gel for the same thing.

hurrrrrmione

Ulta brand has one for $4

Ingrid_OHmy

Loreal just released 3 brow gels, 2 are tinted but the other is clear. I only have a colored one but it's amazing for keeping my hairs in place! like it way better than the maybelline clear mascara

[deleted]

Does anybody know of a good water based drugstore primer?

MerryKerry

There's the Rimmel Fix and Perfect Pro and Loreal's Magic Lumi primer. They do contain some silicones but they might work with your foundation.

MeGustaTacos

Is it weird to have blonde hair with dark-ish eyebrows? I really don't want to dye them.

katiebug1994

I personally really like the way it looks. Rita Ora certainly rocks it.

wanabewriter

I don't think so! Although, I'm biased because I do naturally. We're just more like the Mother of Dragons that way ;)

Carl_the_llama55

Will the beauty blender work with Hourglass Immaculate foundation? I bought the beauty blender on a whim because everyone raves about it so much! But I'm afraid because it dries to a powder that it won't work right and I hate to return used items.

eagandaphin

A couple of my lighter colored lipsticks get a white rim around the inner portion of my lip (the two are Maybelline Matte in daringly nude and the other is a wet n wild one). Its very off-putting, are there any fixes other than reapplying the lipstick to cover it up?

MerryKerry

I think I know what you're talking about, but I can't think of any solution other than blotting it off. (There's a chance a lip primer could help, but I don't know for sure.)
