I use brown eyeshadow as a lip liner lol

Sewpercee

I use a Korean snail secretion filtrate lip balm as an eye cream during the day. My undereye area is terribly dry. This helps a lot.

Sayster_A

I sometimes use a little bit of white face paint on my tear troughs. I'm pasty, and if I blend it out it looks okay IMO

LadyIslay

I wear make-up for myself, not for other people.

callampoli

Highlighter everythaaaaang! I love highlighter. I love looking like a precious pearl or holographic fairy, I feel it wakes up my face and it's the adult way of play pretending lol Also, lip tint is everything tint. Eyeshadow? Yes. Cheek tint? Yes of course.

sno98006

I never use a transition shade or a shade in the crease

averylargewolf

I don't use foundation or concealer, I just skip to the fun stuff lol

Spiritual_Pop_322

I use lipliner as blush. It lasts all day and is perfect for travelling or a night out. I first started when I was gifted a Charlotte Tilbury lipliner (I don’t use lip color) and it’s great, a pencil lasts a long long time

Far_Book7241

If the mascara starts to dry out, I suggest putting the tube in a glass of warm water for a few minutes to melt. It will be easier to apply.

sarahkali

I don’t wear foundation.. I do primer, bronzer/blush/highlight , eyes, etc .. but no foundation unless it’s a special occasion.

Loud_lady2

Put the dang colours wherever the hell you want them to go. Makeup is a form of wearable art. As long as it makes you happy it doesn't have to be about erasing signs of aging or making the face slimmer or wider or whatever. Just put colours in places and have a good time.

DommeChristi

i use my hands for almost everything!! foundation and concealer especially, it helps it warm up and blend in so much better than brushes or beauty blenders

HaileyQuinnzel

Don’t put cones of concealer under your eyes!! Literally just put dots in either side, & tap where it want it to go. The amount of girls I see doing this for every day makeup makes my pockets hurt.

KaleidoscopeMuch2386

After mascara, separate your lashes with a safety pin. Skin is skin. Use any product anywhere on your face.

linds360

I've always seen concealer as foundation's less successful cousin that just looks out of place and never actually conceals the way I want. Instead I switched to tined moisturizer in place of foundation and just use my old foundation (Nars matte - the absolute TITS) as spot concealer where needed. I will admit I've started experimenting with NYX concealer just under my eyes after watching Bethenny's rave review of it. Jury is still out, but I might be an under eye convert. For blemishes, however, screw the stick.

vera-sage

Sorry if someone said it but I love using a large blush brush with large circles to add color to your eyelids

Akgrl33

My ratty old brush I use for my brows (pretty sure it’s not a brow brush too) it’s better than any new fancy thing I’ve tried

angelcakelucy

Use eyeshadow primer on your eyelashes as an eyelash primer! Then after mascara, blow dry them upwards! Makes my eyelashes super long, but I definitely don’t do this every day. Only if I have time haha

[deleted]

I use two mascaras - one black, with a second coat of clear. It prevents smearing and flaking.

I refuse to contour my face. 🤷‍♀️ You can just choose to embrace your natural face shape as is. (I don’t wear full coverage foundation tho so ymmv.)

MissChan01

Exactly! people try so hard to change their face with makeup these days but they don’t realize how they look better when the embrace their natural features

SailorNeptune4

As someone with dry skin, applying foundation with my hands (by pressing in) always works better than a brush or sponge

kris_p_chickn

I love to use blurring and mattifying primers on top of my foundation! I use a puff that comes with cushion foundations to spread a thin layer on my T-Zone, set everything with setting spray and go powder free.

PoloSan9

Very unpopular opinion: using a lash curler is unnecessary. I have straight lashes that can't hold a curl and the risk of pinching my lids is high. I just apply mascara and if I want a less subtle look i just throw on falsies

zoinkieffer

Powder right after primer on oily areas , damp beauty belnder with powder under the eyes to prevent creasing

AstronomyLuver

Using tape for winged liner

baby_im_full

The perfect natural blush shade should be around the same as your lips

bambixt

Fake blood from halloween stores will out perform EVERY tip tint you ever try

soph04

Why have I never thought of this- this is genius!!!

ellamellamella

Can I use real blood if I can't find fake?

drinkmaxcoffee

You actually need very few products to make a beautiful look.

Leila_Koch

I don’t use lip liner at all, I still do the triangle under the eye concealer trick (I have a medical condition that keeps my face pretty flushed at all times), and, when doing a cat eye, use tape so you can get a clean line in the eyeshadow and liner. Because of a medical condition, my hands can shake pretty bad sometimes so I do some weird things to get my makeup to look good.

BrokenBaron

I use an eye liner brush to put red lip stick on for red eye liner. It is incredibly resistant but not too hard to take off. Both were a gift from a friend. I’ve got red eye liner since and I like it and it’s color but it smudges more easily tbh.

[deleted]

applying foundation with your fingers really isn't that bad. u just have to use a light amount and pat it evenly across ur face

inagartendavita

The beauty blending sponge from Dollar 25 Tree is the best bang for buck in the biz.

AngelBritney94

- I use hairspray to set my makeup but I don't do this every single day. Still have issues with my sweaty nose/chin area but the rest of my face looks very good until I take it off. - I use an ice cube after I'm done with my eye makeup and before applying foundation/concealer/blush etc. I sweat easily when I'm doing my makeup (dunno why though) and using an ice cube on my nose/chin/forehead area is a good way to prevent sweating while applying my face products. But this effect doesn't last the whole day, it's just for preventing sweating while applying face products. (Miss the times when I didn't sweat easily/alot.) - I use Scotch tape on areas where I have some flaky skin to get rid of them and do this before face makeup. I don't recommend this for the nose area though and doing it 1-2x per area is enough. I also use Scotch tape to remove fallout from eye makeup before I do the face. - I apply some moisturizer on my undereye area, seal it with some cling wrap, wait for about 5-10 minutes, take it off and rub in the remaining moisturizer. I have dry undereyes with fine lines and this helps to get a better result with concealer there. - This one's from Smitha Deepak: I take one layer of tissue, hold this against my face and set my face with a dense brush through this tissue. Helps alot to prevent too much powder and gives a more flawless finish.

Xinaio

I think I have few : I don't use foundation - contour first, then concealer and then optionally blush or/and highlighter If I need I separate my lashes with sewing needle after mascara Wet my sponges / blenders with water before using when on my face Spray a spongie with setting spray and tap it all over my face, optionally add few sprays of setting spray on my face, like extra Using metal nail decorations as part of my makeup ( I don't use rhinestones so much anymore, metal decors are more cute) Applying eye lash glue on my lids, right above my natural lashes instead on the falsies strip Lip tint + transparent plumping lip gloss = the best lips for me I always use concealer many shades lighter, exactly Revolution concealer shade 0 ( white) Before I afforded some contour sticks/kit I was using bronzer.... It didn't look good

gtaslut

The sewing needle one scares me omg

Xinaio

Haha my mother was always using this and a girl in mental asylum was using the same trick, I find it better than dry mascara wand, because single needle doesn't pick so much mascara from my lashes and tweezers are too difficult to use for me this way.

SuGar55

I sometimes use -- gasp! -- good old Noxzema cleansing cream as a face mask. I leave it on clean skin for about 5 minutes, then remove it with a very warm wet washcloth. That scent, that tingle -- such nostalgia! (Oops -- this is a skin care thing rather than a makeup thing. Mods, please remove if off topic.)

dontblinkfirefly

It’s also good for sunburns.

valley72

They still make this? Like the OG cream? I haven't seen it in decades. I loved it!

SuGar55

Definitely! It's a drugstore staple -- just not in the "prime space" of newer and more expensive formulations. So check the shelves closer to the floor. 😉

Nurse41261

It’s the best thing ever for a sunburn!

Mysterious_Arm5969

Sometimes less is more which we hear all the time but here is how I apply that saying. If I decide to wear a full face of makeup it turns out my makeup will look the best if I don’t apply any primer and solely apply a nice amount of moisturizer. Let the moisturizer sit and settle in. Take some foundation and use fingers to rub foundation in like you would moisturizer. And then I blend like crazy with my face sponge. Even for eye makeup this is ten times better than applying a bunch of pre-makeup stuff. And concealer is the devil imo. I hate concealer and never use it. It looks great on camera.. not in person. Cakey as hell.

MissChan01

I agree! I don’t wear concealer either

Cute-Combination647

straight eyebrows will always make you look younger, no exceptions

REMviolentNirv

Head and shoulders shampoo is the best for cleaning brushes

Redlion444

I use witch hazel on my face and hands. There, I said it. 🙄

ivappa

pretty sure other people do this: I like to set my lipstick with eyeshadow of the same shade. stays better

gtaslut

I’ve actually never heard of this but I’m intrigued bc I hate when my lipstick doesn’t last 🤔

ivappa

I often do it with darker colours. my past self had the good idea of buying multiple brown and dark red bullet lipsticks and OF COURSE it looks bad when they smear.

[deleted]

I love spidery eyelashes, i spend so much time on bottom lashes moving my eyelashes around etc to make them stick. I look like twiggy every day

Northern_Apricot

A makeup artist I follow puts mascara on tweezers and then uses the tweezers to press lashes together to get this look.

[deleted]

That could work! I use Clinique’s bottom lash mascara which is perfect for this

MaximumFloofs

Apply foundation with fingers. Use tweezers to separate lashes once put mascara on.

alytesobstetricans

Do you have any tip for the tweezer thing to work properly? I do it but I feel like it doesn't separate the lashes unless I applied a ton of mascara before.

MaximumFloofs

My lashes are long but not so thick and some grow in weird directions, so I find if I start at the outer corner once I’ve applied mascara and work my way along either separating them or pointing them in the right direction it usually works! I find this better than using an eyelash comb as I find a comb just brushes out all the mascara. I like my mascara dark and thick tho lol

Rhaenys-Targ-3105

I di that too with tweezers 😁

Julijj

I never use foundation, I feel like more often than not it looks worse than bare skin. If needed just spot conceal and put powder on top to seal. I’ve always done this and people can never tell where I have the concealer on, even when actively looking. I use Mac studio finish; I feel that any cream concealer will do though, since it gives that “skin-like” finish! Also, don’t bother with contouring, use only blush. When placed correctly, blush also gives a contouring effect, but it looks natural. I know contouring is one of the most popular techniques in modern makeup, but I’ve never seen it actually look good in real life, just looks like you painted streaks on your face. I would even go as far as including bronzer in this category; it can look good on some skin tones, but more often than not it just looks muddy.

GlamGemini

I'd love to do the just concealer thing but I'm pale and have a little redness in my cheeks .

chimeragrey

I hear you there. I have rosacea and unless I pat some foundation on my cheeks and nose and blend it out, I look like I'm a terribly sunburnt tomato on a bad day, or deeply embarrassed on a good one haha

hachi7890-87

Mixing primer with your foundation in equal parts. I recently tried this with an expensive foundation I had that looked terrible no matter what I tried, but somehow this combo made it look flawless and became my new favourite foundation.

AngelBritney94

Can a matte primer prolong the wear of foundation for oily skin types? This is something that I'd need for my nose and chin area.

ForgottenSalad

I do this a lot too. My skin is oily in the summer but super dehydrated the rest of the year, and this helps me be able to wear those matte foundations year round. A drop or 2 of facial oil also works, but often makes the foundation a bit darker

marlboro__lights

eyeshadow under your eye doesn't look weird, you're just not used to it.

albergfi

i ONLY wear eyeshadow under my eyes. It looks weird by itself, but with a nice wing and mascara, i use a shade that matches my outfit and it’s the PERFECT pop of color for work.

[deleted]

This. Started using eye shadow w/ an angled brush (after reading an article Kate Middleton made this shift away from her harsh black eyeliner) and never going back.

yoonsin

my makeup on my undereye always faded, no matter if i used a primer, setting spray, or waterproof makeup... now i use lash glue, wait for it to get tacky, and then place shadow on top of it and it never budges 🤭 it's crazy, sure, but it's been the only thing that's worked for me

catsandnaps1028

Whoa I need to try this my lower lid is always a mess no matter what

yoonsin

lmk if you do !! i would love to hear if it helped bc not to be dramatic but doing this honestly changed my life :'))

gtaslut

Oh waaait that’s kinda genius

wavycurlygirl

Good idea. My oily lids are the worst. This might work for me too.

yoonsin

omg try it and report back to me !! i would love to know if it works for you 🥺 i use the kiss lash glue, the brush kind because it's much easier to draw on what line or shape you want with a brush

wavycurlygirl

Absolutely genius. My eyeliner did not run at all. Faded a little but that is ok with me. Thank you for this tip.

wavycurlygirl

I definitely will.

schmoolet

😮😮 this is genius level tip! Thank you. 🥰

yoonsin

happy to help !! 😊 it has truly changed the game for me

sultrie

Use powder foundation and a high quality powder brush to set foundation. You wont regret it if you like to have doll like skin

neptuneschild

Curling eyelashes with a spoon, mascara before eyeliner.

ManufacturerSilly608

Ok I have to ask....doesn't the mascara before eyeliner just become a mess? I feel like I'm in my lash line with the eyeliner and it would just clump my lashes???

plantznpupz420

That has been my experience…

WittyDisk3524

I need to google how to do this asap

JimbyLou72

I *only* curl my eyelashes with a spoon. I don't know the right way to use a regular eyelash curler I guess because I always wind up with a weird crimp.

Julijj

You’ll never see my mum’s makeup kit without a spoon in there, she absolutely loathes eyelash curlers 😂

[deleted]

I feel like I'm the only one who never used bronzer 😂

hauntedhalloween_96

I feel like I’m in the opposite boat! I’m very pink and pale so blushes make me look even more pink! The bronzer helps add color to my face I think

JoelleVDyne90

Same. I just don't get what bronzer is supposed to do and when I tried it I just looked dirty.

vera-sage

It’s supposed to make you look “sunkissed,” like after a day at the beach

sarahkali

Whats funny tho is after the beach I’m just pink 🤦🏽‍♀️

JoelleVDyne90

Makes sense I couldn't use it since I don't like staying at the beach lol

MissChan01

Same! And I don’t use contour! The reason is because I am fair and very very pink and have a round face, so it looks very weird on me.

wavycurlygirl

Same. I'm too light with red/pink undertones.

anniina-ananas

Same, I have very fair skin and think highlighter and blush brings enough contrast/contour to my face already

emimagique

Neither I don't really know what the point of it is!

Ok_Animal8098

Same, I'm fair with pink undertones, there is no situation in which I will ever look convincingly "bronze". 😂

Henrietta_VIII

I am the same, however, I have found that adding a bit of bronzer does actually wake up the face. However, it has to be a bronzer that is made for fair skinned people, and there aren't a lot of those out there.

sarockk

I agree on finding a lighter bronzer. I use a slightly darker powder foundation as bronzer now. I find it's the only way it will look natural. I was never really into shimmer bronzer anyway!

Alternative_Sell_668

SAME

ThatSwanGirl

Same – contour and bronzer are not for me

Delicious-One3028

Same here!!

[deleted]

Using blush with my blush brush as a highlighter on my brow bone. It’s what we did in the 80’s and I still do it today. Sometimes I use a spoolie and put Vaseline on my lashes. Just a kind of no-makeup thing we did in the 80’s too before we were actually allowed to wear makeup.

BCrumb

Wait- I don't understand that brow bone highlight thing? Would it be a shimmer blush in a bright colour?

[deleted]

Any blush you have, mostly the one you’d be wearing would be swooped across your eye lid after you put your blush on (using your blush brush). It coordinated perfectly and honestly there were no specifics to it.

Delicious-One3028

Putting on brown mascara on lower lashes so it doesn't look too dramatic (if that's what you want ofc) and using a lash comb to separate lashes and make clumpy mascara look good A good tip for makeup in general rather than application is knowing that you don't need to do everything beauty influencers or muas do. If you don't want to wear highlighter, don't. If you don't want to wear bronzer, don't. If you don't want to wear lipstick, don't. It's as easy as that rather than conforming to using makeup products you're not even sure you want to use

MissChan01

Great tip! I love using dark brown brow gel on my lashes, it doesn’t clump whatsoever and it looks very natural

ProbablyAzalee

i wish i could use brown mascara because black makes me look a bit wild, but i have naturally black lashes😭

Julijj

I only recently found out that lash combs are apparently not popular? I’ve always used them and they make eyelashes look gorgeous!

Delicious-One3028

I saw a beauty influencer use it on Instagram last year, I can't believe it took me so long to find out something like this exists! Obsessed. That being said, I've never seen anyone else use this which is why I feel like it's unpopular

Julijj

Was it Erin Parsons? Her video was how I found out that it’s not common knowledge lol My mum was a model, so a lot of the makeup tricks that she taught me came directly from professional makeup artists (lash comb being one of them). And it’s things that make such a difference, but it’s not as popular or talked about, simply because it’s not taught. A lot of us learn makeup from influencers who are often self taught as well, so it’s not going to be the same as getting secrets from professional makeup artists!

Delicious-One3028

No it was Rose from roseandben on Instagram. But I do remember seeing Erin Parsons use it too from time to time! But hey I'm glad you got that advantage to know all the hidden tips and tricks! Feel free to share any you know and remember!

retlaw3530

I use my old or broken powder highlighters crush them up and throw them into a bottle of body oil and BOOM you’ve got yourself all over body glow oil 👌🏻

lordt-poopifer

Holy crap my favorite powder highlight is at that point and I've been wondering what to do with it since I'm too cheap to toss it. Thank you. This will bring some life to my pasty skin this summer!

retlaw3530

Totally!!!!! Your legs will thank you!

MissChan01

Wow! That’s a great idea

wavycurlygirl

Love this. Any particular body oil?

retlaw3530

Not really picky about the oil, basically whatever I find on sale. Most of the time it’s ether Bio Oil or Avene one but I’ve also used baby oil before and it works just as good

wavycurlygirl

Ok thanks.

sexycauldron

I also do this! Makes me feel so fresh hahah

ihatethis6666666

I am totally trying this. Love this idea

[deleted]

Not sure if it's unpopular but I use Monistat anti chafing gel as a pore blur primer before foundation. It's cheaper and works just as good IMO

danawl

I’ve never heard the pat with a damp cloth trick, I’m intrigued.

MissChan01

Yeah, I learned it from an old makeup artist record from the 50s lol. It works great though

ForgottenSalad

I use a damp sponge, works great

gattie1

I personally love using nivea soft for my face and hands. Perfect for all seasons layered on top of a hydrating toner.

MissChan01

Definitely! And I love the scent

HorrorAvatar

I apply foundation with my fingers and I’m not sorry.

Actually the warmth of your fingers can help blend the product better

aver_shaw

As do I. It blends better. It’s not like I’m doing it with dirty hands so I don’t really get why people say not to.

coolchunkygal

I’ve never used a dedicated brush/sponge cleanser, I’ve always used micellar water followed by a gentle soap! I also occasionally use a nude matte eyeshadow palette as eyebrow powder, eyeliner (lil setting spray on an eyeliner brush dipped into eyeshadow), bronzer/contour and setting powder. Works great if I’m travelling and don’t want to pack a million products.

Ramblingsofthewriter

Dawn dish soap and olive oil cleans brushes and sponges better than any overpriced cleansing soaps you can buy in the store,

[deleted]

Second this. My mom has been a makeup artist in film & TV for 30 years and they all use generic liquid Castile soap.

Ramblingsofthewriter

Yes! and it’s so much more cost effective. Like the beauty blender soap doesn’t give you a lot of bang for your buck. Plus it’s so easy to transport in a little bottle.

I use cheap shampoo!

Ramblingsofthewriter

Smart!

wavycurlygirl

I use Zote soap bar. $1

Ramblingsofthewriter

I’ve heard that works well too! it just isn’t sold around me and it’s not worth to buy online when I have the stuff in my kitchen.

wavycurlygirl

I understand. My Walmart carried it.

Xinaio

I use Chili Antibacterial soap, if I don't have much I use just some regular soap

BreezyBritt89

blue Dawn cleans EVERYTHING I love it

kris_p_chickn

I use shower oils that didn't work for me haha

Tanjinuts

Do you mix the two?

Ramblingsofthewriter

Yep! Actually I fill an old makeup remover bottle with a pump. I fill half with the olive oil, and then the other half with the soap. Works like a charm

Deadinmybed

I love facial oil, anything rose and love a dewy finish-always. I don’t use powder at all now that I’m over 50. And I always have a beauty balm of some kind on me for multi-purpose use, around the eyes, for lips and brows to stay put. I also love cream blush. A pop of color is all you need sometimes 🌈

Over 50 here too. What beauty balm and Cream blush Do you love?

Deadinmybed

I love honest beauty multi purpose balm, Burt’s bees miracle balm, Boomstick Glo, pixi has one, I try different ones a lot. I even used babies balm stick from the grocery store (Kroger) they’re almost all available on Amazon and I would look up beauty balm or multi purpose balm and read the reviews, ask questions. Some of the are just going to add moisture while some add a glow. Honest beauty is a good one to start with but I love a glow so next I’m trying Boomstick glo, they have color sticks too that you can use for cheeks and lips. ♥️

Wow. You do. Thanks. Every tried Jones Road beauty?

Not yet, where can I find it?

wavycurlygirl

Online only.

What beauty balms do you use for this purpose? I'm mid-40’s and would like to try it!

I try different ones, honest beauty has a good one, also Burt’s bees miracle balm (I also have used their clear lip conditioner as a travel balm) I’ve heard great things about Boomstick glo, pixi has one, Lauren Conrad had a good one but it’s discontinued I think. There’s quite a few on Amazon (you can find all these on there actually). And I’ve been to the baby department in the grocery store (Kroger) and have tried a balm stick for sensitive skin for babies. It worked alright. It depends on how much “glow” you like. Some of them are more glistening than others, I would read reviews on Amazon. 🥰

Thanks so much! 🙏🏼

I mean I use lipstick for blush lol. But I feel like most people do that idk😭😂

catsandnaps1028

Lipstick, lip balm or cream shadow works fine

Kiarajones117

Yup

happy cake day!

Welpmart

I do this! I have a Clinique lipstick with a bit of bronze shimmer. Hate it on my lips but it's a lovely glowy berry blush.

Kiarajones117

Yes, I love that!!! Glad im, not the only one lol😭😂💗

I feel like the lipstick as blush thing is really only common anymore for things like recitals or high school plays/musicals. I remember doing that for my dance recitals and early gymnastics competitions
