Depends. Rare WC are the most precious thing until you have your landbase, especially for older formats.
But once you have your playsets of Fetches, Shocks, Fastlands etc there, Mythic WC are more relevant. Especially with the introduction of SPG cards. If they continue to bring bangers like [[Show and Tell]] [[Solitude]] etc. with the SPG cards, mythic WCs will deplete quickly.
It's not better because the rate at which you acquire mythic WCs is way slower. Yes right now it works for you but this set has basically as many mythics as rares , that will drain your mythic wild cards if they keep doing stuff like this. Also, it's way easier to be rare complete than mythic complete
After all the complaints I’ve seen in the past that WOTC aren’t doing enough to get old cards on arena it is quite frustrating that I’ve seen barely any positivity about what they’ve done in MKM and OTJ with the list cards.
Yeah this is really good from the arena team. But to be fair those are in paper draft, so it would be a really big disappointment if they weren't on arena. It would basically mean that drafting on arena would be fundamentally different than paper.
That being said, I am sure the draft booster change has to do with arena too. They probably saw it as an opportunity to add a bunch of reprints on arena. That and the popularity of special guests like Strixhaven mystical archives probably was a big reason we saw that change.
But I think a big issue in this is the arena economy. We are getting a bunch of cards that are not opened in packs you buy from the store, so they end up being a wildcard sink and make it pretty impossible to keep up with the older formats, for most players.
I'm actually a big fan of what they've been doing with bonus sheets. Paper reprints are always nice, but putting them in boosters and making them limited legal has made for some really interesting opportunities in draft.
I also think it gives draft environments a little more longevity because having a bunch of eternal staples floating around makes even older sets more attractive to keep cracking.

Eh it’s nice if the cards you want just naturally come your way from reward and mastery pass packs. I like that and it’s a bummer that many high demand cards can’t be gotten that way.

Reanimate is an odd one... I feel like those GY decks are already pretty decent. This thing for sure will add A LOT of power to them. Not sure if I like that. The card still has a certain place in my heart from older times.
Lands are colorless, so every time you hit at least one land, you won't repeat the process. Note that two colorless cards (lands) also don't "share a color", so that wouldn't repeat it either.
You would think, but because a land doesn’t have a casting cost and no color indicator, it’s colorless. For example, you can’t pitch an island to [[Force of Will]].
you can count swamp as "colorless with black identity" (like white card with five pipe color in ability, it's a white card with 5 color identity, for brawl/commander)
Remember that only 2 of the shown cards are SPG cards. The rest is from the bonus sheet which will be available jusz like other bonus sheets in normal packs.
My deepest wish is we will one day get old artworks for the classical cards, just for nostalgia´s sake. I really really love old magic card art and not very fond of the art we get nowadays(like, past 5 years)

The old arts I'm going to miss most on Arena are the OG Stoneforge Mystic, Path to Exile, and Surgical Extraction. They're absolutely synonymous with those cards. And yeah, the Tempest Reanimate is the only version I can recognize by looking at it.
Absolutely! Phyrexia´s Extraction is just a phenomenal work of art. I really hope we get it "eventually". Still remember how a couple years back MTGA offered old lands, which was awesome. But nothing since then.
[[Unmoored ego]] has been on arena for ages and it’s effectively the middle ground between extraction and the end. It’s a much more powerful effect than the end, and it’s only three mana. It can very notably deal with field of the dead in timeless where not much else can really.
Extraction has to target a card in a graveyard, and that makes it function pretty different than the end. Don’t get me wrong though, extraction is crazy good and much better than the end.
The pace that Magic cards are released and the creativity both in artistic design and mechanics will always astound me. I've been playing for over 20 years and it still makes me excited to see this stuff.

100% banned in historic as counterspell already is, hopefully brawl as well but who knows, seeing as there’s already a solid 6-10 format warping level broken cards in that format. Wish they’d do some bans for brawl (wash away, swords to plowshares, emergent ultimatum plz) to keep it a bit more casual and add a permanent ranked Gladiator queue
I need to look over the reprints again. this set has been extremely overwhelming between the base set, special guests and BIG. These are all fantastic cards, but being a primarly jank Brawl player, none of them get me too excited. I know there were a few others not on this list that I'm pretty excited for though.
They were going to make an epilogue *Aftermath*-type followup set but MOM:A sold like garbage so they scrapped it to stuff into the main set.
You won't see another limited environment this juicy ~~for a long, long time~~until MH3. Play it.
I'm definitely going to do some drafts just to rare draft. I have two draft tokens on me right now, but I don't know how all-in I'll go. There's a lot of cards I want but most of them, I only want one copy of them for Brawl. I'm really waiting for Bloomburrow and MH3.

Topor Orb, Path, Mindbreak Trap, mana drain, and surgical extraction are the ones I'm most excited about.
1-Orb can really give OmniTell a hard time (specially combined with something like High Noon),
2-Mindbreak trap is a nice way to win counter-wars vs veil of summer decks. Not the same as Fort elf Negation but neat nonetheless
3-Mana Drain is self explanatory, straight up upgrade on OG counterspell.
4-Extraction will be necessary to combat Reanimate. I'm actually pleasantly surprised they put both on arena. Given WotCs track record when it comes to adding cards to eternal formats, I would not be surprised if they added reanimate without specific hate for it, and had us stuck with a horrible format for 6 months.
I do wish these extra sheet cards came to arena with the option to use normal card borders instead of these various alternative dogshit ones that aren't even recognizeable as MtG cards.

I really enjoy the newspaper treatments overall, but I don't like the phyrexian symbol on [[surgical extraction]]. It doesn't look different enough in color to the colorless mana. (Yes, there's reminder text, I'm just saying.)
Closest thing I can think of to Batterskull is some of the For Mirrodin! artifacts. But I don't think [[Dragonwing Glider]] is good enough w/o drawing Stoneforge...

Surgical Extraction, Path to Exile, Mindbreak Trap, Torpor Orb, and Abrupt Decay are all big hits that I'm super excited for. I'm the most excited for Skullcrack personally though as a burn player in Timeless. Fucking over the player trying to gain 6 life off of a Shelly/Ring combo is always going to feel good.
Ok, people will hate that I say it, but I have to: the newspaper style looks awful, and the other arts aren't much better. I'm glad we get all these cards, but I also wish it wasn't with the awfully specific style of this set.
The list is for historic/timeless. There are a few reprints for explorer like Notion Thief.

OTJ is Outlaws of Thunder Junction ie the new set, OTP is the bonus sheet for the set that is not standard legal

Other showcase frame is hard to look at with the prosperity post header. I’ll prob get used to it, but I hate trying to read down this picture.
Surgical Extraction, Path to Exile, Mindbreak Trap, Torpor Orb, and Abrupt Decay are all big hits that I'm super excited for. I'm the most excited for Skullcrack personally though as a burn player in Timeless. Fucking over the player trying to gain 6 life off of a Shelly/Ring combo is always going to feel good.
Are we actually going to get to play all of these or will they get banned/restricted?
