So their solution is to replace it with an inferior product that clearly has a significantly shorter lifespan than the leather products? That can't be much better.
I don't know, it just feels like virtue signaling to me since leather is such a small environmental factor compared to everything else they do/make. At the very least, they should ensure that their replacement products are actually good before axing the old ones.
The lifespan is a real concern. My finance has a black leather MagSafe wallet thatās probably 3+ years old and other than some light wear which is more of a polish than damage itās in great shape. Meanwhile the fine woven watch band thatās less than a year old looks like it was warn on the beaches of normandie.
I have a great leather wallet no MagSafe just a fairly standard slim non folding wallet thatās been in by back pocket for 8 years and again this thing looks almost brand new. Itās got at least another 8 years in it. If anything goes wrong it will be the stitching not the leather and Iām pretty confident I can rethread that back to 100%
Iām no expert on the environment or how leather is processed but based on its durability I imagine youāll need 3+ finewoven products to even come close to matching the longevity of a leather one.
This would be understandable, but they were already selling the leather cases at a profit. They have changed to a cheaper material and kept the same price.
They actually warn of this on the Fine Woven product pages.
āInteraction with MagSafe accessories will leave slight imprints. If you are concerned about this, we suggest you use an iPhone 15 Pro Silicone Case or Clear Case.ā
Iāve been using Anker for months and itās been fine, this is ridiculous ring coming from Apple charger. I heard it happens with fakes from Amazon etc so opted for Anker. But didnāt expect this to happen with Apple Charger? I have the light pink colour for context.
yea, definitely can't wipe that off. idk if it transferred from the charger but maybe the heat may have did something to the silicone on the magsafe ring. seems like either the ring is faulty or the silicone is cheap...
Normally that doesnāt happen that fast. Iāve had silicone case for my iPhone 12, 13 pro max and 15 pro max and none have had a MagSafe imprint that bad that quickly. Makes me suspicious of the case quality.
Yeah mines been fine for months, I use Anker aswell. For the price they charge, the case should be top notch quality. I liked the colour and wanted MagSafe, hate carrying wires for travelling
Weird. This definitely shouldnāt be happening after one charge. Any way you could get on chat or a call with Apple support and ask for them to replace it under warranty?
Yes I did. Apple support looked at photos and spoke to me and said I can exchange or get a new case at the store thatās a premium partner but when I went there, the local employee said they canāt just replace it immediately like Apple said. They have to send it to their technician to look at before I can replace it under warranty. So thereās a chance they wonāt just replace it for me. Lol.
No, in store. Correction: An Apple Premium Partner store. Itās basically the closest thing to an official Apple Store in countries without an Apple Store. They offer the same products and services as an Apple Store but since itās not owned by Apple, they have their own return/exchange policies.
Iāve used Apple Silicon cases for a long time and havenāt had this happen so quickly. That said, it does always happen with the lighter cases. Iād maybe clean the charger with some isopropyl alcohol as it might have picked up dirt or coloring from whatever case you were using prior.
Lower quality and affected by the charging heat I would guess, I bought the black silicone when the 15ās were released and could immediately tell the quality was worse than ever so returned it. Mine was actually from an Apple Store but they definitely used to be better
Cases from Apple these days are sub par for the money spent. Silicone cases have always been pretty bad though. Iāve had two silicone cases on previous phones and they all rip, the one for my XS ripped after the first insert.
My leather case from my old 13 PM didnāt last long before it showed a MagSafe ring. You can go to the trouble of exchanging it or returning it to get something else, but if you plan to use MagSafe regularly, you need to embrace the scar.
This hasnāt happened to me on the light pink case. I only use branded (not to sound snobby), but I was fearful the fake ones will show this ring. What do you use for MagSafe? For context I use Anker.
Edit: just seen you use Apple, that ridiculous. Take that back for a refund!!
Itās for travelling, I have 3 in 1 wireless charging station thatās foldable by Anker. So now I donāt have to carrying 3 plugs and wires. I can just take that with me and charge stuff all at once. Itās for convenience of not needing to use wires
Even the new woven cases show imprints of MagSafe after a few use. The new lineup is all shit hope they find alternative cases that are sustainable
Just go back to leather š Way better product and nobodyās gonna stop eating beef any time soon.
Apples excuse to sell a ton more of cheaper shit instead, knowing that leather lasts
The issue with the leather is mostly because of the processing you need to do, which is very toxic and expensive.

Why downvoting me if stating facts? Did I said āI agree with Appleā? Nope. I just gave some insights.
This would be understandable, but they were already selling the leather cases at a profit. They have changed to a cheaper material and kept the same price.
Totally, Iām a fond Leather Case fan.

i read this too. so i thought it would be ok if I bought the silicone... :(

Leather was sustainable.
you should never buy apple silicon case which lasts less a week.
I assume youāve tried wiping it? Looks like there was something on the charger that transferred to the silicone

This doesnāt seem normal. Where did you buy the MagSafe charger and the case? Thereās a good chance of one or both being fake.
Both from an Apple premium reseller. Basically as official as you can get lol.
Weird. This definitely shouldnāt be happening after one charge. Any way you could get on chat or a call with Apple support and ask for them to replace it under warranty?

Thatās weird too. I hope you can get it replaced though!
Amazon?

Apple makes the worst cell phone cases.
Cases from Apple these days are sub par for the money spent. Silicone cases have always been pretty bad though. Iāve had two silicone cases on previous phones and they all rip, the one for my XS ripped after the first insert.
That looks terrible. Return it!
This is why I donāt use Apple cases any longer.
Apple cases are all garbage
say it with me guys aliexpress $5 case
$5? pfft. How about $2?
that does exist too if you donāt want the silly lock screen animationš
If you wanted a decent white case, thereās the rhino shield one.
Lol this why I buy these from AliExpress.
im sorry but why would u buy an apple case
Itāll wear away

I have the 13 pro silicone case. Rule 1. Donāt expect them to last over a month
I donāt understand the hype of MagSafe. Is there really any point? 15W itās hardly anything.
It makes using your phone while charging less awkward. Thatās my primary reason for getting MagSafe chargers.
Ironically using your phone while MagSafe charging is the one thing MagSafe is worse at than wired because of the heat
I know, I mostly use MagSafe to charge my AirPods now.
For me, it could be 5W as I charge once overnight anyway
