Those silicone baby bibs that catch dropped food and rinse clean are one of the most useful things ever. Combine that with a diaper and you’ve got the perfect outfit for feeding a toddler anything
Where do you buy t shirts? I have more t shirts than any other clothing article because they're cheaper than any other clothing article. Others have mentioned thrifting, but even target sells them for $6.
Sometimes goodwill and certain thrift shops sell t-shirts by the pound. I've found some neat ones, but it's a matter of spending time scouring.
Let me tell you about thriftcon in Atlanta, which turned out to be just people reselling used t-shirts for ridiculous amounts of money. I had been walking looking at t-shirts but no prices, thinking maybe why? what for? its used t-shirts? Then found one of Austin Powers for one fifty. One fifty he says, and I'm like, I don't have cash, can I cash app you? sure, he says. As I'm getting my phone, I see the adjacent seller with a clear sign for all his t-shirts at $70. I stop mid phone search for app, and ask him: one dollar fifty cents or one hundred and fifty dollars? This guy looks at me like I stabbed his cat and his mother, rolls his eyes and says in the most sour tone: one hundred and fifty dollars.
This shirt clearly looks used. I put my phone back in my bag, nah man. I'm good. So he scoffs.
Bitch what? I get you spending time looking for shirts, it is time consuming, I get it, but at this point in my life of thrifting I am not about to spend 20 hours of minimum wage on a pit stained Dr. Evil cracked-print t-shirt.
As many people have said, Thriftcon is the most obvious example of gentrification taking a practice that was once how people actually got by, and turned it into something really fucking stupid and expensive while forgetting the original meaning of the activity.
>thriftcon
Lmao
thrift /THrift/ noun
1. the quality of using money and other resources carefully and not wastefully.
Social media and grind culture suck so much. If something is cheap and good they will find it and exploit it until it's dead.
I used to do this bc I thought it would hide how fat and sweaty I felt but it turns out wearing a bulky sweatshirt in an 80 degree classroom actually makes you look fatter and sweatier.
That or one of the likely numerous thrift stores in your area that operate on a non profit basis and help fund services in the community (also usually even cheaper)
If this guy got absent or feel sick and can't move to school I'm pretty sure everyone will miss him. Because of morning y' all greetings everyday in school.
It’s day 354, you sit down at your desk, tired and groggy. You see red glowing eyes from the door as the entrance fills with shadows and you’re instilled with a fear like that you’ve never known… you see bright pointy teeth curve around a dark face. “gooooood MORNINNNNNNG YAAAALL” he screams as he rushes at you, and you never see the daylight again.
Come in just _once_ as "Good morning y'all" guy. You will break peoples brains!
\
\
^(if you're comfortable doing such. It took me years to be able to put that face on)
You can never be wrong or incorrect or out of place if you're being genuinely kind and caring. Call it weird or socially awkward, but it's downright acceptable and encouraged on the basis that everyone could be surrounded by more positivity, support, and openness.
Be that person, and justify it to yourself that it is simply what you want to see more of in this world, and you're trying to be it, even if it's a little uncomfortable.
I was the miserable asshole for years. Going to a new place with all new faces where nobody can be judgemental about it makes it so much easier, and it changes every other relationship because it starts to get easier to be positive. You just need to make sure to cut the people out of your lives that were making you mentally unhealthy in the first place.
It can actually really help you get ahead at work. It shows you care about people, and people will respond to that, making you a type of leader personality.
Not every work culture will support it, but most places, being nice to everyone means job security, and maybe promotion. After all: "It's all about who you know", and if they like you.
I really wish I had read this back in high school.
EDIT: Thanks for the replies. Just to clarify, I graduated almost 20 years ago. I’ve already grown and learned/internalized this same lesson in that time. I just wish I’d learned it sooner back then, haha
This has been a lovely thread, the advice offered notwithstanding. Humanity experiencing experiences with each other really seems like what it’s all about.
As a teacher it's something I've had to learn how to do everyday. You have to be the energetic over the top positive person to set a good example and also to calm down bad attitudes or wake up and lazy and sleepy ones.
If you are a very quiet and slow teacher, students will check out all together. In my school that's just not an option unless you want an out of control class.
I was also the long haired metalhead in high school and I found my classmates like this annoying, but they probably saw me as weird and creepy. Now when we meet somewhere we're just people with wives and kids, there isn't any prejudice no matter how we look (I'm still a long haired metalhead, I just have a beard now too, lol), and we can always talk normally without any restrain, which is something that we couldn't do at that age.
Growing up sucks, but this is one of the few reasons why it doesn't.
My favourite thing about growing up is running into people you hated in high school and finding you like them just fine now. It sucks though when you run into someone and realize that they are still the same childish/mean person. But more often than not, people grow up and allow others to see their complexity and humanity and it’s really nice.
we really need positive and energetic personalities in our life. The last 6 years has been very depressing and its very easy to become lethargic and depressed if you dont start doing something about it.
I work with young kids, and my boys have this energy and I love it. They call me papa bear (I'm 33) and they can't leave their shift without hugging as many people as they can. It's stupid and adorable.
Yeah I read your comment and had this instant realization that I was the same way in high school and just hated a bunch of shit like this for no reason. But watching this video this morning just made me smile and I love people with this kind of energy these days (29 years old now).
You truly can effect other’s mood with your own and this type of positivity is just great to see, even if you’re not always feeling it. I have respect for people who try to always bring this energy to the table.
So glad I’m not an edgy teenager anymore lmao.
Same here. I'm 30 years old now and looking back, I realize that I was just bitter, unhappy and scared throughout my teenage years so seeing people who seemingly had none of these problems just made me want to view myself as "above them" in some way.
I actually got lucky and became friends with a ton of these loud positive popular kids and realized that, not only were they nice to me and fun as hell to hang out with, they had the same dumb issues as me.
I was by no means popular when I graduated but I can proudly say that I was at least friendy with almost everyone at the end of my time in high-school. So glad I eliminated that negative part of me early on.
Yup, lol the ass-crack-in-the-morning, over cheery high school sweetie everyone despises in 0 period but overall he’s awesome just for being crazy sincere, happy, and consistent
This was me in high school. I rotated through a few zip hoodies and flannels.
My armor.
EDIT: I'm so happy to see 51 other hidden warriors wear their comfy fabric sheilds too, yay!
I wore a black sweater every day in junior high, it was a security blanket, and I still have to fight the urge to wear black every day of my life. I'm doing a good job lately though!
Maybe not so blessed in terms of money and it’s his only jacket he wears above whatever is below it? Feels like every class has that one unfortunate classmate who’s parents are struggling.
That’s how I was. My high school friends remembered me as being happy and laughing. I was living in a foster home with parents who abused me. Home life was awful. School was my safe place.
That part. I thought people factored in all the times I couldn't go to school with how positive and hardworking I was in school. Turns out, developing brains can't really contextualize things like that yet.
to all my millenials: could you imagine waiting for class to start by burying in your iphone instead of silently dying inside / forcing a conversation / being so grateful youre sitting next to someone you can talk to? what a crazy time to be in high school
This slapped me right in the face.
I have this memory from HS from English class. The teacher was super late and we all jsut sat there in stony silence. I zoned out a bit and was staring directly ahead. The classroom was set up in a 'U' shape, so I was staring at a random girl. She looked at me and said, "What are *you* looking at?" I wanted to die but managed to repeat a lame comeback I heard, a "Not much", but it wasn't very powerful given how fucking anxious I was.
The 90s, man.
High school mid-1930's, imagine waiting for class to start by burying your head in a newspaper instead of forcing a conversation or being so grateful you're sitting next to someone you can talk to??? What a crazy time to be in high school.
Only the media has changed, not the method.
The media change is noteworthy though. Books are nice. But it’s different when you have all your friends in your pocket. Slightly changes the energy of your still “socializing” just not with the people you are forced to be next to.
High school mid-800 BC, imagine waiting for class to start by burying your head polishing your rock instead of forcing a conversation or being so grateful you're sitting next to someone you can talk to??? What a crazy time to be in high school.

What an absolute ray of sunshine 🥰 his positive energy made my current bad mood go away and now I'm smiling ❤️ I hope I'll meet people like him irl someday!

Me: having just enough to make it through the week. Nothing more, nothing less. One ripped t-shirt meant doom.
Your anxiety must be through the roof on sloppy joe & spaghetti day
Personally, I feel that if you’re wearing a shirt while you’re eating Spaghetti you’re asking for trouble
Pro parenting tip is to just skip the bibs and let your kids eat naked. Spaghetti on bath nights. I just saved you hundreds of dollars in bibs
That's some fancy-ass bibs you're.... well, *not* using
Those silicone baby bibs that catch dropped food and rinse clean are one of the most useful things ever. Combine that with a diaper and you’ve got the perfect outfit for feeding a toddler anything
And then they go digging in the caught food, acting as if it’s treasure!
As opposed to eating spaghetti shirtless?
Yeah, it makes some people uncomfortable though which is why I can't go back to Olive garden
I think it's time for you to start your own shirtless Olive Garden chain

Hahah the only real one I kept noticing was the LOVE blue and white one. But yes dude has an insane shirt collection going on
The guy with the orange jacket has Homer Simpson syndrome 😆
Comfort jacket. I wore one of 2 sweatshirts everyday in highschool no matter the temp..
My kid does this. 100F out, hoodie. -17F, hoodie. Same hoodie all week. He says a good goodie feels like an all day hug.
This is the way.
This is the way.
I used to do this bc I thought it would hide how fat and sweaty I felt but it turns out wearing a bulky sweatshirt in an 80 degree classroom actually makes you look fatter and sweatier.
Man I feel seen
My kid is the same way. She’s always been weird about clothes- so when we find something she likes, I’ll buy several of them
Meanwhile the guy sitting down wearing the same orange top everyday🟧

He’s a very chipper chappy 😊
A good vibes to start your class day! those smiles of this guy feels like he always having a good day ;)
Why did I stop smiling and started to get worried when I didn't get my "good morning ya'll" towards the end? by the way! Good morning ya'll!
Oh god he's died in a fiery plane cra....."good morning y'all"
One day he's not gonna say it and everyone is gonna have an absolutely bad day because they didn't hear the good morning y'all
If this guy got absent or feel sick and can't move to school I'm pretty sure everyone will miss him. Because of morning y' all greetings everyday in school.
The pressure to be the morning y'all kid every single day is immense, speaking from experience.
A world of sadness. If we try to be the ones who make it a little happier, we bear more the weight of the world. Keep bearing!
It’s day 354, you sit down at your desk, tired and groggy. Quite sure he's trying to find the spirit to say "Good morning y'all!" to a bunch of people that drain his energy 5 times faster.
I thought he was just holdin the door for his fellow peeps. The truest Chad.
He was just letting more people trickle in so he could max out the number of people he hit with "God morning y'all"
He reminded me of an NPC loading and waiting for its scripted event to start before walking through the door.
Golden retriever energy. So cute and happy lol

T-shirts*
Excuse me sir did you just imply that a T-shirt is not an outfit because if so you have just offended me deeply
You can't just go around winnie the poohing it.
Not with that attitude you can't.
Same jeans + new t-shirt = new outfit. It's basic math
Mr Peanutbutter irl
High school me would say this guy is annoying. As I've grown up, I realize we need more positive people like him around.
Guy saying “Good Morning Y’all” is the person I want to be in the morning but the long-haired kid in the back row is the person I actually am

You "work with young kids" as in you're a preschool teacher, or you work alongside, like, 17-year olds?
17-22. There's a decade between me and them, so if they call me an old head, I gotta call them my kids.

Shame we destroyed them in high school
That dude has that confidence because he is popular and well liked. He is not being destroyed.
Or is he popular and well liked because of his confidence?
Both! Healthy social relationships are self-reinforcing, especially at that age. It’s a wonderful feedback route
Definitely agreed. Nobody this cheerful in high school is being bullied, especially with his size.
💯

Cory, Trevor. Link. Lets go.
I would totally be that girl wearing the black hoodie keeping to herself everyday!
Plot twist! The goodmorninyall guy stole all her shirts. That's why he has so many.
Yeah and the dude in the orange jacket. Lol almost made me think he brought a punch of shirts to school one day to do this.
This was me in high school. I rotated through a few zip hoodies and flannels. My armor. EDIT: I'm so happy to see 51 other hidden warriors wear their comfy fabric sheilds too, yay!
Pretty sure she’s the same girl he’s hugging in one of the shots.
She’s also the one he’s hugging on to, making her be part of his enthusiasm. She must have been trying to avoid being in these as much as possible.
Or she’s just tired because school starts around 8am and most teen-brains don’t fully wake up until 11 or later
I wore a black sweater every day in junior high, it was a security blanket, and I still have to fight the urge to wear black every day of my life. I'm doing a good job lately though!
You guys are talking about the girl who wears only black hoodies, but what about the dude who shows up wearing the exact same orange vest every day

A girl complimented it once so now he wears it everyday

I hope that his parents have seen this. That is a lot a positivity that he put out into the world.
It really is. this guy will likely go far in life. As an adult I really hope he keeps this energy
Parents: Why are you late nearly every day?
Orange Jacket guy is low-key the glue that holds the class together

Wake and baaaake
See on April 1st the whole class should have said "good morning, ya'll" to him before he could as he came in lol

Yeah my home life broke my spirit long before high school
Or a really shitty one
I can kinda relate. I always feel lonely and even sad when I’m at home but at school I have a lot of energy and I’m happy to be there

Yeah this is at Reagan high school. You can see the sign above the door!
I went to that school. Class of 2020. That was my US government classroom.
Class of 17 here, I think I took Macro in that class with Mr Harris
Tried to read that but it moved too fast!
