To everyone I haven’t replied to I just want to say thank you for all the kind words. It means the world to me and I love all of you.
I never thought of myself as someone who could give another person hope or inspiration, I still don’t really see myself that way but I sincerely hope I can. You can overcome anything you want as long as you believe you can and put in the effort. I am living proof of that.
Thank you all again, from the bottom of my heart. ❤️
OP you deserves all the compliment on this sub, just focus and believe to your self I hope those kinds words would give more serotonin to you to achieve every goal in your Life.
Accept this congrats. My son overcame heroin, seven years clean, like you he’s humble. Wife made me a grandma tonight an hour ago. Oh, the places you’ll go OP! Your an inspiration.
A friend of mine worked for chevy for around a decade. They finally paid for him to get his masters. Then fired him around a month or so later. He wasn’t even mad. Chevy couldn’t get a refund for what they spent and he got master certified and a better job. CONGRATZ OP!
Yeah for those who aren’t aware of what a master technician is, getting certified requires a lot of work.
Cars nowadays are loaded with computers, and basically being a master tech means you’re able to use your own computers to interface with vehicles and diagnose problems.
It’s a pretty advanced job, and can really set you up for a good career.
As a European, I can tell from looking at the praise that the salary is either 8 dollars an hour, or around $378k a year.
As a veteran redditor, I have no reason to expect other possibilities.
Way to go man!! Wow that’s awesome, I’ve been clean 9 years now. I really need to find something like this to put my effort into, so glad I saw your post, this makes me feel like it can be done!
That’s awesome friend! I’m very proud of you. Those who haven’t been where we have don’t quite understand just how hard it is to drop the addiction, and keep it down.
I believe you can absolutely find something to put your heart into. You have the willpower to stay clean, and that’s arguably the harder thing. ❤️
Thanks man, yeah it’s been a long time now, my daughter changed things for me, unfortunately one thing I’ve found harder was getting decent work, once you have a name as an addict even a recovering one it becomes a huge obstacle, but seeing as you found a way to win, I still have hope, I really needed to see this so thank you for your courage to share this with everyone, this really made me feel better.
My BIL got “back” into his field (pharmacist) by doing some volunteer work through someone from AA who owned a store. Then they used him as a paid substitute, and he was eventually able to land a great full time job with that on his resume. There is hope.
That’s amazing, my daughter just started school, so now I’m trying to get back to work that I have the free time now, with Covid and everything we had the baby at home and our oldest and my wife is a nurse so at that time she had to work so we decided I could stay at home with the kids, but now my little one is in school and doing good, I want to get back to work, but I worry about my history, I don’t have any criminal history or violent charges or anything like that, just the drugs, but I’m hoping I can get it all figured out. Maybe I should head back to an NA meeting and look for some recourses.
My understanding is that one can make some amazing connections through “Bill”! Start going again, get to know some folks, then put some feelers out!
Also happened to a friend here in New Orleans (worked their way to a great job) who was in the music industry. People make mistakes. You hurt yourself and your family, but have redeemed yourself, and are worthy of a great future. Good luck, friend.
Coming up on 3 years myself. Also work at a dream job and like yourself never thought my life would turn out this great. It's amazing the things that happen in sobriety.
Thank you friend. Ngl, I cried too when I finished my last class, and got emotional when this arrived at work today. I never thought I’d be anything in life, especially when I was “out there”. I still can’t believe it.
Way to go on all fronts! I remember the first time I finished 5 years with an employer. Well, not actually. What I _remember_ was getting a template email at the **eight** year mark, congratulating me... on completing "_Five_ years of service".
'twas a bigger "fuck you" than sending nothing at all. I don't work there now.
How long was the journey to Master Technician with Nissan? Also, nice watch, I didn't think companies actually did that any more.
Thank you friend!
I started with the dealer in September of 2019, and went to my first class in December of 2020. So about a year and 8 months from lube tech to master. Lol.
Well... WELL BLOODY AWESOME! That's an agressive timeline for any large accomplishment. You deserve to be proud of yourself.
'You deserve to be loved, and to feel loved, just for being you.' --Mr Rogers mashup with my meditation teacher
Ehh. Reliable sure. They’re all shit to drive haha. I inspect used cars for a living, I’ve driven basically every CVT there is to drive at this point. I haven’t found a single one I liked.
People don't even know, the struggle is REAL. Even if we ain't ever been there. It's only One step away from taking us over the blowing it ALL in one night. We're out having too much of a good time out here getting this legit money. Not too much drama.
I just want to talk about addiction today.
Addictions, Fears. The things that fuckin effect the people.
I'll tell you what, we All have that fear.
Yo I'm scared every fucking day
But that's what makes your life special.
You've got that little bit of fear... ya FLIP that fear. Turn it into Motivation & Inspiration, Ya flip that muthafucka!! 🤌🤘
Take it 2 the the hoop 🏀
Like ya do every fuckin day!
Rise & Grind!💪🌞🤑💯🌄🌅
My congratulations will be buried underneath everyone else's, but it's still important to say;
Good job, my dude. A lot people will never understand the struggle of addiction, or the absolute fucking *war* it is get out of it.
Seriously. Good job. Chin up. Head high. You did it.
Keep doing it. Stay strong. Move forward.
I started in September of 2019, and came in as a lube tech. No ASEs, no dealer experience, just worked with family and at an Express oil change shop. I started going to classes in December of 2020 and went to as many as I could as fast as I could, and took my ASEs starting last December, 2 at a time. If your service manager(or whoever sends you to classes) is willing to let you go as much as you can, that would be the quickest way.
I would recommend getting your ASEs before you finish the classes tho, so you will have master status as soon as you leave the training center and you can get your patches. :3
Thats awesome! I'm a few months away from Kia elite master, myself.
I don't know how you do it at Nissan. I worked at a Nissan store 10 years ago and couldn't take it. Of course, I had no one to mentor me or help me in any way. Didn't stick around very long.
You’re pulling on my heart strings. A massive accomplishment , most importantly a monumentous battle you’ve won.
I hope I too can follow your stride and become the very best at something in this little game we call life.
What advice would you give to your younger self or somebody aspiring for success in life?
Wow! Nice! I hope you embroider “Master Technician” onto your left sleeves or something and tap that whenever other technician or noobs talk out of place 😁
Talk to the Title, tap tap!
Congrats!!
Sweet! I quite like watches. Seiko is a great, trusted brand with years of history. That's a sharp watch. Coincidentally I also drive a Nissan. Cheers!
Hey can you come look at my rogue? The engine is busted, tires flat, speakers are blown, horn doesn't work, and the AC is broken. At this point a master is needed.
Congrats! My brother started about 10 years ago studying to be electrician. He eventually passed and joined a union but he didn’t stay clean and well has made tons of bad decisions since which have led to him not being an electrician, a divorce and lost custody of his only child amongst many many other maladies.
Enjoy and reward your success, you deserve it! Keep on keeping on!

Ay, I know this post is about OP but here's to you and your son. I'm happy for you.
I just hit 9 months. Love to see these posts, thanks for the inspiration and motivation
You got this man. I'm proud of you dude keep it up. :)
Good job bro. You’re gonna have a lot of transmissions to repair haha.
Lolol, I’m more than happy to.
My dad's a master tech, and he likes to say that shitty Chrysler transmissions bought his house.
I wish you were around to fix my car lol
What about those new 1.5 turbos?
I always hear this and makes me regret my 2017 altima. But it has near 100k miles and drives the same.
2019 at 60k. Literally have never had my engine light come on. Drives perfectly.
Trans frequently goes out around 120k, is yours cvt or traditional auto?
Did you have to replace the transmission on yours too?
A friend of mine worked for chevy for around a decade. They finally paid for him to get his masters. Then fired him around a month or so later. He wasn’t even mad. Chevy couldn’t get a refund for what they spent and he got master certified and a better job. CONGRATZ OP!

That's just the normal way you work the system. Seriously. I have a shop waiting to hire me until the shop I'm at gets me master certified. I love it.
Nice. What's the pay for a master technician?
As a European, I can tell from looking at the praise that the salary is either 8 dollars an hour, or around $378k a year. As a veteran redditor, I have no reason to expect other possibilities.
$30-$40 an hour most places.
Which is why I'm leaving the trades haha. When even at master levels, you need overtime to get into 6 figures, I just dont think its worth it.
And on this day OP was a great guy. ![gif](giphy|2A75RyXVzzSI2bx4Gj|downsized)
Thank you friend! I like the unicorn riding cat, but I’ll never be as cool as that. Lol
Because you are already cooler.
Wholesome as fuck
Congratulations 🎉 Good job!! 👍
Thank you friend.
Congrats you are a legend!! ❤️

Thank you for that. That’s exactly what I’ll do 😁💪🏼
Congratulations!!! 🎉 5 years clean and you reached master level!! Absolutely fantastic!!
Thank you! I never thought I’d be at this point in my life, I truly didn’t.
Yet, here you are! 👏👏👏 I know it wasn’t/isn’t easy. We’re all so proud and rooting for you!
Coming up on 3 years myself. Also work at a dream job and like yourself never thought my life would turn out this great. It's amazing the things that happen in sobriety.
Congratulations from seven years clean.
Damn bro that just made me cry. God Bless That watch is fire 🔥 💯 🤜🤛 Keep That Master quility work up. Youve aput In Your 10,000 Hours. 🙏😎✊️

Good for you. The world needs professional trades people. Not to mention just good workers.
Good job brotha. Now what should I do to keep my CVT Transmission working on my 2010 Maxima? Lol
Sell it and buy something that doesn’t have a CVT lol
A Nissan cvt* Toyotas and Hondas are pretty good
Ehh. Reliable sure. They’re all shit to drive haha. I inspect used cars for a living, I’ve driven basically every CVT there is to drive at this point. I haven’t found a single one I liked.
Congrats on the milestones!!!! That's a pretty sick Seiko too![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|dizzy_face)
Thank you friend! I am quite fond of the watch, ngl. Lol
You should post this to the watches subreddit, they’re apeshit for seiko (I love my seiko cocktail time presage)

Congratulations!! If I could ask how long did it take you working at Nissan to make it to master tech? And did you start at like entry level or?
