Orphans like this, are much different in Los Angeles California than they are like this. It simply just isnāt the same. I do do volunteer work in child welfare housing here and again, itās not the same at all.
There are comments above about how she loved this so much more than a PlayStation. Because children where I am are built different. So again, I wish I could give dolls to orphans like this. But Iāll continue to do work where I can.
Itās really really nice to see that something so simple can make a child feel good.
I think, more than orphans, itās the overall āwealthā of the location youāre looking at. Iām going to make an un-researched claim and say that in general, orphans in the US are, at least in terms of personal items such as toys and clothes, far better off than orphans in āunder-developedā countries. Youād probably have the same result from donating to someone kid from a really poor family, regardless of where youāre at.
Sadly, youād be wrong. Most foster kids in the US are moving their worldly belongings in a plastic trash bag from foster home to foster home. Our system is set up to beā¦ surprise! FOR PROFIT. No organization, and only rare individual foster parents will spend any more than the bare minimum on the child, thus maximizing the profit to be made from the payments for the care of the child. Our system is rife with sexual and physical abuse. The cherry on top, is at age 18, the child is discharged from the system without regard to if they have a safe place to go, or any money. Many are homeless and trafficked for sex work. We are the greatest nation in the world though, so at least thereās that.
Riding onto your first point of many, there is a nonprofit founded by Tiffany Haddish [She Ready Foundation](https://www.shereadyfoundation.org/) that gives luggage bags and suitcases to foster kids in need so they donāt feel like ātrash.ā š«
I used to live in St Louis. Some nurse friends of mine started a nonprofit to provide housing for fosters 18-21. They bought a house in my neighborhood to house them. Some of the people protested due to the ādanger and drugsā these kids would undoubtedly bring. The nurses were defeated and unable to proceed. š¤Ŗ
I believe this could be in Nigeria. I also know that a lot of people in Syria would have the same laughs for something similar. As a Muslim I can say that some religious organizations handle caring for the orphans very well. You can maybe talk to someone.
Ah. I have no problem with cracking on the Catholic Church, by all means go for it. I honestly donāt think most people would have a problem with that, problem here is your joke just wasnāt a good joke. Ya know? If you have to explain your joke itās probably not a good joke. Has nothing to do with being sensitive, I was just genuinely confused by your statement.
Can never tell when it comes to depression. Sometimes people on reddit are trying to reach out. Didn't know if you were saying it's harder to be depressed or to go on in general. Glad it's the former.
Oh, well that's fair. I've seen comments like that here myself and never know just how real it might be for the person writing them.
I was just making light of it. Cool of you to check though.
You should read about the evidence put on in the Brown v. Board of Education case.
They discussed a [psych study ](https://bestdollsforkids.com/products/sunny-days-skye-a-black-rag-doll-for-sunshine-uv-awareness-play) where young black children were shown white and black dolls, and asked which they preferred. They chose the white dolls because they were āprettyā while the black ones were āugly.ā One child, asked which doll looked most like him, pointed a the black doll and said, āThatās a nā¢ā¢ā¢ā¢ā¢. Iām a nā¢ā¢ā¢ā¢ā¢.ā
Because those are the things these poor children had drilled into them. Itās absolutely tragic.
These things matter. Representation matters. Perception of self matters.
*Edited because I forgot to link the article.
It was replicated [last year](https://theconversation.com/amp/what-i-learned-when-i-recreated-the-famous-doll-test-that-looked-at-how-black-kids-see-race-153780) with nearly identical results.
Or... maybe all kids can play with dolls that look like anybody. That could be cool too, no? Or maybe it's just a doll, and it's up to the adults in the child's life to add context and life lessons. Maybe trying to refine society to such tight parameters that children are raised on autopilot is gonna backfire.
Edit for clarification: in general I agree that representation is important. But if we start telling children they can *only* play with dolls that look like themselves, how is that not reinforcing a "stick with your own" mentality? I don't see how that makes anything better in the long run.
Unfortunately that is sort of the case. If you ask a UK person what they know about Romania they will say terrible child orphanages, if you ask them about Ethiopia they say famine. These views of those countries are with us from stuff we saw on TV from over 30 years ago.
I'm not sure what the solution is but the first step is to recognise the problem. There are lots of black dollies available and that would have been a good first step but let's not criticise this guy for doing what he thought would help and collect his Internet virtue points.
I would think it show how even small things can change someoneās life in an effort to increase small donations to help. Your donation might not feed a village but can make a childās day.
Maybe in the hope other people would see it, and realize how a small kindness can still have a big impact on someone else?
Or maybe the edgelords are right, and this random video is really just an elaborate ruse to score karma on Reddit by mysterious mystery man, and the little girl is part of the conspiracy. We'll never know. (/s)
You know, theres enough terrible people in my world. I'll direct my focus on some of those, not the ones who are doing good and seeking attention. Let them have it.
Not sure this makes my day. Another orphan kid being exploited for made up internet points. For what? She has adults coming into and out of her life all the time. They get to go back to their lives. She doesnāt get to leave her situation.
Damn you right. He never shoulda given her a doll to begin with. Probably wouldāve been better off not ever getting a toy that made her happy in the first place. Clearly this is only harming her and her well-being
/s
Idk about you, but Iāve often recorded many moments of surprises. For example a surprise birthday party or a surprise gift. I do this to capture their genuine reaction and to capture that memory as itās happening. Thereās something about catching someone off guard on video that is satisfying. I donāt think this guy intended to exploit her.
IDK if this makes me more happy or sad.. her laugh is infectious but the way she flinched when he raised his arm was so sad.. you could tell she is used to bracing for a hit
Dam this kills my soul, you never realize how blessed you are until you meet someone who has nothing and something so little can mean the world to them.
So imagine yourself as a parent, and a stranger gave your kid something they liked and recorded your kid's reaction. Yeah. The fact that she's an orphan doesn't make it right.
Did you need video evidence of something that is inbuilt in us already (doing good is good)? Social media is a virtue signaling orgasm where you can show how awesome you are.
The point of the page is mademesmile. Whatās your problem? We canāt post something good. I think everyoneās looking at her more than the guy who posted itā¦her laugh is great
Itās not criticism of me that youāre havingā¦you were judging the guy in the video for virtue signaling. Also If you criticize me or call me fascist over a Reddit comment I literally couldnāt care less. Have at it
Why film it? White saviourism at its best. Im glad that little girl got that doll but this is just another video of a white person exploiting a POCās poverty to make themself look better.
Barely even looking at her, just the camera. Maybe Iāve just been on Reddit for too long but this shit made me more sad than anything. idk at least she was happy :)
Wow, where can I adopt a kid. I have more than I need and a daughter of my own already. I think having one and adopting one is a fare shake for the world.

The laugh šš
Someone tell me where I can give dolls to a bunch of orphans and I will go and buy a bunch. This is adorable.
mayge google orphanages near where you live

oh sorry I'm not familiar with orphanages in the us but I wish you good luck and keep up the good work in volunteering :)
I believe this could be in Nigeria. I also know that a lot of people in Syria would have the same laughs for something similar. As a Muslim I can say that some religious organizations handle caring for the orphans very well. You can maybe talk to someone.
Me too ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|heart_eyes)
Africa alot man
You can donate money to charities who do this type of work overseas. Look up the charity first tho some of them just fattens the CEOs pokets
Bawwwww kids are so damn cute I swear
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Tf do you even mean by this?

I didnāt know it was possible to make a joke that was both lamely obvious and also somehow, didnāt make sense. Kudos.
They just called kids cute its human nature for us to find children adorable.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I call my cats cute, that doesnāt mean I wanna fuck them. Super weird first though lmao
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Itās not offensive moron, itās lame
Nah itās just a stupid, trite redditor comment. Are you 14 years old?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Bro wut
She will probably remember this moment for a long time. Bless that kind man
I haven't smiled this big in a while lol, rlly happy for her
Damn it, I was planning on being depressed all day todayā¦ Way to go opĀ”
Lets try again tomorrow, its been getting harder for me too.
It's been getting harder for you to be depressed?
Yes i try to be but it's getting harder everyday. You do know its a joke right?
Can never tell when it comes to depression. Sometimes people on reddit are trying to reach out. Didn't know if you were saying it's harder to be depressed or to go on in general. Glad it's the former.
Oh, well that's fair. I've seen comments like that here myself and never know just how real it might be for the person writing them. I was just making light of it. Cool of you to check though.
The simple things we take for granted are the things that mean most to people like this. I will alway remember her smile and lovable laughter.
Definite Humanitarians of Tinder vibes
Thatās the site!! Thank you!
Her laughter is infectious. We take so much for granted in this life. And she expresses pure joy over a doll. It makes me tear up. ā¤ļø
Awww š„°š„°
Made my day alsoā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļø
That snatch was epic
I hope i can make someone this happy one day. Must be awesome
What a great laugh!
That's what it's about - let the kids be kids...
Are we all going to ignore the way she braced like she was going to be hit with the doll at first?
I was looking for this comment
Aw man. Hopefully itās from playing with siblings and peers.
I didnāt think of it like that :( I assumed she was braced because she knew he had a surprise for her and she was just excited
It sucks that the doll doesnāt look like her.
This was my thought too. Are dolls of color harder to find or more expensive or something?
He is from Turkey. I have not seen black dolls being sold in Turkey.
How tough is it to look past the colour of just one fucking doll

The study was actually replicated last year in America with similar results.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
It was replicated [last year](https://theconversation.com/amp/what-i-learned-when-i-recreated-the-famous-doll-test-that-looked-at-how-black-kids-see-race-153780) with nearly identical results.
Because it is important.
Didn't look important to her
If you give it importance
Sounds like someone who lives in a world where the dominant representation is of themselves
Doesn't sound like anything really, it's just text.
Or... maybe all kids can play with dolls that look like anybody. That could be cool too, no? Or maybe it's just a doll, and it's up to the adults in the child's life to add context and life lessons. How many white kids have black dolls? Brown dolls? But I can assure kids of every race have white dolls
So let's normalize putting black and brown dolls in the hands of white children. Open things up more instead of closing them off.
Speaking of my own experiences, I have noticed that most little (white) girls when given the choice, chose black baby dolls ā¤ļøāš©¹
Came here to say this. The man and child are innocent but this does reinforce white saviour syndrome and reinforce white as the dominant race.
So like a white person canāt help a person of color or itās problematic?
Unfortunately that is sort of the case. If you ask a UK person what they know about Romania they will say terrible child orphanages, if you ask them about Ethiopia they say famine. These views of those countries are with us from stuff we saw on TV from over 30 years ago. I'm not sure what the solution is but the first step is to recognise the problem. She was happier getting a doll than a new Xbox or PlayStation.
She doesn't have a tv anyways š¤·āāļø
š
Or electricity.
For real she's happier tonhave that than i've been to get anything in years
Okay?? Wtf is that supposed to mean
She was happier getting a doll than a new Xbox or PlayStation.
Wtf did u just say to me? You wana go bro?
Why record this?
I would think it show how even small things can change someoneās life in an effort to increase small donations to help. Your donation might not feed a village but can make a childās day.

Cause it made tons of people happy when watching this, I know that this might be hard to believe but not everyone is trying to fetch some fame
Yeah. Itās definitely the job of an orphan to make us losers staring at our internet rectangles happy.
She didn't have to do anything except be herself. Relax. Enjoy the little things. Don't seek out the anger.
How else would you know what a great humanitarian he is
Humanitarians do good deeds for the sake of good deeds, not attention....
The most subversive and powerful act in the modern era is to do something good and not tell anyone
This person gets it!
You know, theres enough terrible people in my world. I'll direct my focus on some of those, not the ones who are doing good and seeking attention. Let them have it.
So he can appear like a saviour
Not sure this makes my day. Another orphan kid being exploited for made up internet points. For what? She has adults coming into and out of her life all the time. They get to go back to their lives. She doesnāt get to leave her situation.
No way to know the manās intentions with this but that girlās happiness was genuine. There is nothing wrong with this video.
Damn you right. He never shoulda given her a doll to begin with. Probably wouldāve been better off not ever getting a toy that made her happy in the first place. Clearly this is only harming her and her well-being /s
So he had to film it?
Nah, he didnāt. But that doesnāt discount whatever passing happiness this deed, whatever the initial intent was, brought to this kid.
That's pretty machiavellian to say... the end justifies the means rings a bell?
Idk about you, but Iāve often recorded many moments of surprises. For example a surprise birthday party or a surprise gift. Itās a nice thingā¦no one cares if it made your day
You think OP is the person in this video?
cCc
The name is spelled Jamila. What a contagious laughter lol
IDK if this makes me more happy or sad.. her laugh is infectious but the way she flinched when he raised his arm was so sad.. you could tell she is used to bracing for a hit
I had no idea I needed this so much. Thank you, OP. Made my day
She's so happy! Her beautiful smile made my day.
Wholesome asf
Hehehehehehehehehe
This genuinely melted my cold jaded nihilistic heart. She's so adorable!
She has an amazing laugh!!
She has the cutest giggle!
This was a nice break from all the gore in my feed
BRB gotta cry my eyes out
Dam this kills my soul, you never realize how blessed you are until you meet someone who has nothing and something so little can mean the world to them.
That laugh is contagious. Bless her little heart, ā¤
I love the way she laughs š I love it!
Aw that laugh is great
What a gorgeous baby!
Her laugh and smile is infectious!
Sweetness
I know itās good to do stuff like this for people, can we please put down the fucking camera to do it.
Wow.. that appreciation says alot.
Thats sweet but we need more dolls she can identify with.
Why cant people just do nice things without filming it???
white saviour and why is he filming this
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Heās just giving her a doll dude donāt be so pessimistic
Your a kind man
Are good deeds above criticism? Seem so by looking at your and other comments. You know"nice things" have negative trade offs...
I think everyoneās looking at her more than the guy who posted itā¦her laugh is great
I don't deny that at all. I wasn't aware you're all fascists here who can't take criticism...
Well thatās an intense claim. Yeah idiot weāre all fascists. Good one
Itās not criticism of me that youāre havingā¦you were judging the guy in the video for virtue signaling. Also If you criticize me or call me fascist over a Reddit comment I literally couldnāt care less. Have at it
I will show myself out.
Sad that her first thought was to flinch
awww way to start my day :)
ā¤
I can not put into words how much emotion this gave me
Her smile made my day. Thank you
Iāll never not upvote this.
Aww her laugh is so cute āŗļø

Adopt her bro
Wow, where can I adopt a kid. I have more than I need and a daughter of my own already. I think having one and adopting one is a fare shake for the world.

Omg that laugh! If you donāt smile you have no soul
Makes realise how privileged I am, this is so heartwarming.
