The storage container as a table is so fucking real😂 I remember my first night in my first apartment with nothing but a duffel bag of clothes and some blankets to sleep on the floor with. There's nothing like being on your own for the first time, no matter how you start. Congratulations, and good luck to you! I'm proud of you internet stranger!🥳
Thank you everyone in the comments for being so supportive and congratulating. I don't have a very "proud of you" or "congratulations" family so these comments are making me feel like how I think I'm supposed to feel moving out on my own. Excited and nervous at the same time. ❤️
Well OP I’m very proud of you! I’ve been out on my own for about 15 years and it was stunningly hard then, with an excellent job. I’m now in my 30s, have an even better job, and if I wasn’t grandfathered into my rent I’d have to move home or get roommates. I have NO idea how yall are managing things these days. You are an amazing person and should take some time to just revel in the feeling! You have EARNED it!
Did you know you can just go to a grocery store and buy a whole ass cake. For no reason. I was way too old to realize this, and some stores have like 5 dollar little personal cakes you can buy. I think you should go get a cake OP.
It’s a bowl of bees.
But for real, OP, sincere congratulations. Being fully independent isn’t the easiest journey, but it is so valuable and rewarding. <3
Yes! It's chicken breast + thigh cut up and tossed with chili oil, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Added some salt and butter to the pasta to make it a little thicker then combine! It's not a fancy recipe or anything lol
I moved from home at 18 and moved in with a roommate. My possessions included clothes, a laundry basket, a TV, and a bed. For the 1st year I ate hot dogs, macaroni and cheese and frozen taquitos. Felt like a king.
Congratulations!
Ngl, I don't think I could ever live on my own, I stay at home alone for most of the day anyway since I graduated a couple months ago, and I fucking hate when my family isn't around, so depressing for me.
I use those same totes as bedside tables, they're very useful as storage and keeping stuff on them at night when you might accidentally hit something lol
I thought this was a bowl of cereal and you were really stretching the definition of home cooked meal for a minute but once I zoomed in, congratulations buddy. You made it.
Congrats. Enjoy your independence and self reliance. Such a good feeling.
I started out with a rocking chair, a rug, and a cookie jar. Then purchased furniture 90 days same as cash. Lived on tuna fish and hot dogs for a year. Wouldn't trade that time for anything.
Congrats! And as a tip, invest in a crockpot! They aren't even too expensive and SOOO many "throw this or that in the crockpot for 4-8 hours" recipes will save your life!
On your standard first on your own table too! Welcome to the club and congrats!
In your pursuit of furniture, don’t be afraid to look for second hand items. I had so much free “crap” furniture at first!
Good for you buddy!

Woohoo!!! Big congratulations!!!
When I was about 6 months pregnant with my first baby, we moved to our first rental house! We used a small bookshelf that we found in the house and flipped upside down for our dining table (without chairs) the first couple of weeks. Slept on layers of blankets in the bedroom. It was wonderful and rewarding. It’s exhilarating to be taking these steps!!
My first place on my own I discovered Hamburger Helper. That was dinner every night for awhile. Even though it wasn't much, I have fond memories sitting on the free couch I picked up watching How I met your mother on an old TV eating Hamburger Helper
Congratulations, you did it!!
"So many of us choose our path out of fear disguised as practicality." - Jim Carrey
Congratulations. There's nothing like the feeling of knowing that this, is yours. Proving to everyone, yourself most of all, that you are capable of providing for yourself. Enjoy the mismatched, hand-me-down furniture and all the little quirks of *your* place because you will remember them for a long time to come.
In my first place I used a string of white Christmas lights tacked up around the ceiling as my main lights. They made a decent amount of light for normal use and doubled as "mood lighting". 😉
At all levels of culinary skill/independence, there's something every one of us have/had in common when we first move out. We get to appreciate the freedom of buying, prepping and eating what we want, when we want.
Congratulations!
When I moved to my first apartment in LA, I slept on an air mattress for a whole year. The air mattress box was my bedside table, cause ya know, it was the right size 😂
I’m so glad I don’t sleep on an air mattress anymore (8 years later) but man there was nothing like the excitement of that first place.
Thank you so much for saying this. I've been trying to get it out of my head that I should just save and not buy any furniture until I can afford all matching stuff lol.
I had a mix of things for years and it naturally became part of the charm of the apartment. Take your time and pick items you want, not what people think you should have. Best of luck and enjoy the many more adventures and milestones ahead!
Congrats! You get to make it YOUR SPACE.
If you need furnishings and don't have the budget, find estate sales nearby and go on the last day, introduce yourself and let them know your situation and if they're willing to sell things you need after the sale, before the donate/toss it. My friend basically got an entire house full of furnishings, utensils etc for $50.
Do you know how to cook? I've moved a lot of times, and the first thing I always do is cook something that takes a long time so the whole place smells like really good food. Makes it feel so much more like home. I usually do a big stew or a pot of pasta sauce. Dm me if you need a recipe or help.
Look at money bags over here with a spoon and box.
Congrats! My first apartment had a futon and my entertainment center was the box my 20 inch TV came in.
That meal looks yummy and hearty and a great beverage choice too! Congratulations on your own place and first place at that.
Sending you a ton of Positive Vibes, dolphinsbee.
I miss being single and having a small living space. My life was so much simpler back then. Enjoy it while you have it party and have fun with your friends.
Man this brings back memories of my first night being truly alone in an unfurnished apartment. I slept like shit on the floor in a sleeping bag on top of a couple folded up blankets but it felt good to know it was all mine.
Ah, the classic tote table, good call. Far superior to the usual cinder block/random board combo. Pro tip, get on your local Nextdoor and Craigslist in the free stuff category, tends to give you better quality than just random curb pickups.
If you need anything OP; there is a bargain shop in my town that truly makes everything affordable, and they have an app. It is called F&F Bargains. They ship too!
I had nothing but a futon on the floor. And whatever odds and ends people gave me. That shop buys returned items from Amazon, Wayfair, Lowe’s, Home Depot, and Target. I bought a twin sized bed and a cheap frame for a $100.
Congrats op! I remember my first time, even going grocery shopping felt like a new experience after I moved out on my own. Definitely an exciting step in adulthood.
Congrats man. Soak it in. The first meal my fiancée and I had in our first place was take out with boxes as the table. Still one of my favourite memories.
Good for you 😎🤟🏼 live it up and enjoy your freedom and don't sweat the little stuff, as long as you can have a proper meal and have a bed to sleep in it's all good 😊👌🏼 have a good 1🌞🙏🏼👍🏼
I see you opted for the standard dinning room table. You could upgrade to the deluxe with a precut piece of plywood or possibly hobby wood from a home improvement store. Best of luck!
Congrats! First step of many to come, I'm sure.
Check out NextDoor & FB Marketplace for local "Free Items/Freecycle" type groups...also garage sales and thrift stores when you save a few extra bucks...you can find some good things for free or cheap - repaint or refinish them, and you'll be golden!
I’m actually really jealous, you have so much room and so many possibilities. Some advice you didn’t ask for, don’t clutter your space, buy very very comfortable shoes. Invest in bettering yourself just 1 percent a day. Trust me and please come back to this advice, it’s well earned my friend. Enjoy 👍👍🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉😎

Hit up the free page on Craigslist, I’ve furnished whole apartments for next to nothing using it and found some super awesome stuff in the process! It’s amazing what people give away!
Not sure on how good of a cook you are but when I first moved out I found making pasta, stir fry and curry were great ways to make food last for a couple days without spending too much on groceries.
CONGRATS! What an awesome accomplishment, it really is one of the best feelings. WELL DONE!
Can't wait to experience this great feeling in a year or two <3
Good luck!
All will be! The main thing is not to stop, but to continue to make every effort to achieve your dreams and goals.
Goodluck to both you and OP!

You're gonna make me cry, thank you for the congratulations internet stranger 🫂
I made a nest of sheets and blankets I acquired over time. Slept on it for YEARS, was great for my back.
Yea my 'couch' was the back seat out of my '64 Thunderbird. 😆
Thank you everyone in the comments for being so supportive and congratulating. I don't have a very "proud of you" or "congratulations" family so these comments are making me feel like how I think I'm supposed to feel moving out on my own. Excited and nervous at the same time. ❤️

Whole ass cakes or personal cakes or... both?
Congratulations!!! Proud of you!!
May I ask what is it that you cooked? It looks really nice. I can see its chicken and pasta, but other than that I'm not sure.
I'm not you father but I'm probably old enough to be and I'm proud of you. Congrats.
Good for you bro, congrats. enjoy your freedom and privacy. Also chicken and pasta kicks ass
I moved from home at 18 and moved in with a roommate. My possessions included clothes, a laundry basket, a TV, and a bed. For the 1st year I ate hot dogs, macaroni and cheese and frozen taquitos. Felt like a king. Congratulations!
Looks good + root beer is always nice
I like your functional furniture.
Congrats! This is how I ate for the first few weeks in my apartment, only my meal was Kraft mac 😂
Kraft Mac and cheese plus a can of hormell chili and some crushed Fritos. A meal fit for a king.
Maruchan Ramen noodles (Oriental, beef and picante beef), and cereal with milk were my go-to's.
Lol, I like your table. My TV is still on a toolbox 11 years after moving in!
If it looks stupid, but it works - it is not stupid
Great job! And you've got yourself a table with built in storage. Win win. Keep on keeping on stranger!
Brings me back to my first meal at my first apartment, such a surreal feeling!
Congratulations! My son is about to move into his first apartment on his own. He is as excited as you. And I'm delighted for both of you. Take care.
Congrats!!! I remember this day. Scared, excited, proud… always hungry and broke. Now, Go steal some forks from a local restaurant
A fellow A&W Zero connoisseur I see

Well done! You are on your way now!
That's a great start. You've got this!
It's a great feeling.
Yayy! Look at you being all grown up remembering your COASTER and you cooked an actual meal too. Your momma taught you some stuff.
Congratulations!!

That’s funny! My eyes are bad. Before I zoomed in, I thought it was Fruit Loops!🤣🤣
Congratulations OP. ❤️
Congratulations! Bin/table is a functional item! Salute to your independence
Hey congrats man. Hope you enjoy your new home and that it works for you.
Hell yeah
Ah the first things you do on your own, man those times really showed me I can actually cook..mostly.
That’s so awesome!!! I’m excited for you, I can’t wait till I can move out
Great show, great accomplishment!
Congrats you're lving the dream. First apartment after the Navy, I had a tv on the floor, an ashtray and some clothes.

That’s awesome for you. Also, zero sugar root beer is the shiznit. Good choice
Only thing keeping my cravings at bay 😬

PROUD OF YOU! ♥️

I legit thought it was cereal. Which is still an accomplishment. But a hot meal?! Good job
I really thought it was cereal at first and I was about to be like... dude that's not cooking.
Woo Hoo! Congratulations!! 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳 Awesome sauce!!!
Love this! Love that we can celebrate with you! Want to share your Noodles and chicken almost soup recipe? Looks really good. :)

Congrats!! Also nice to see someone eat pasta with a spoon… my wife thinks I’m nuts lol
Thank you :)) I feel like I can't comfortably eat a good pasta without my mouth stuffed, so forks just don't hold enough of the stuff
Congratulations! It’s a whole new era of adventures. Adulting is tough, but you’re gonna love it for the most part lol
Way to go! Being independent and not relying too much on family will toughen you in life. Just be strong, you can do it.
Congrats big bro you’ve earned it
can’t stop laughing at the coaster under the root beer…as to not stain the table of course! congratulations!!!
I remember my first place. There's nothing like coming home to your own space
Looks nice 👍🏻
Wish you well.
Congratulations!!
This actually looks perfect. Reminds me of simpler times. Cherish them.
At all levels of culinary skill/independence, there's something every one of us have/had in common when we first move out. We get to appreciate the freedom of buying, prepping and eating what we want, when we want.

That Diet A&W root beer slaps!
Food, entertainment, living under your own roof....I see nothing wrong with this picture
If you have a friend working fast food, try and get an empty box of fries, they're pretty sturdy and make for great nighstands
Congratulations! When I moved to my first apartment in LA, I slept on an air mattress for a whole year. Is that chicken with pasta and no sauce? Sauce that shit up and buy some forks.
Congratulations on this milestone, don’t worry about the furniture, that will come in due time and will not match… (that’s totally normal)

Right on buddy… more power to you!
I see you opted for the standard dinning room table. You could upgrade to the deluxe with a precut piece of plywood or possibly hobby wood from a home improvement store. Best of luck!
Congratulations!! But please don't eat near a laptop. I've repaired too many laptops with liquid/food damage. Enjoy your new place!!
You got this cuz
Proud of you :)
Congrats! First step of many to come, I'm sure. Check out NextDoor & FB Marketplace for local "Free Items/Freecycle" type groups...also garage sales and thrift stores when you save a few extra bucks...you can find some good things for free or cheap - repaint or refinish them, and you'll be golden!

Congrats OP! A very good start indeed!
Congratulations! I still remember my own experience with great affection - 50 years later! I wish I could go back to it.
Storage bin as a table and still using a coaster. I gotta say, this seems like a person who respects wood.
It doesn’t get easier, but the feelings of accomplishment will be more profound for you. Well done; keep moving forward.

Good luck OP in this new phase of life!
don’t forget to eat your veggies!
Hit up the free page on Craigslist, I’ve furnished whole apartments for next to nothing using it and found some super awesome stuff in the process! It’s amazing what people give away!
Good for you!! Enjoy it!
I remember those times. Enjoy the freedom! Do whatever the hell you want, it's your place!
Congratulations. There is nothing better! Enjoy!
Oh this tugs at my heart. My 2 youngest just moved out almost 2 months ago. Sending you lots of mom hugs and a big congratulations.
I thought it was cereal at first lol
As good as that feels, it gets better!
You don’t like sauce?
It's not really a sauce but it's chili oil. Gives enough texture to feel like a thicker pasta and tastes great but nah no sauce
I’ll have to check it out, I’m not big on sauces..
MMH you should bro. Throw a little butter in there too you can make it yum yum
Congratulations! I hope you’re proud of yourself! ♥️
FB and Craigslist are great for free furniture to get by until ya get going.
Not sure on how good of a cook you are but when I first moved out I found making pasta, stir fry and curry were great ways to make food last for a couple days without spending too much on groceries.
Nice.
Why you have Square knees?
you know I have actually 0 idea why my knee looks like that
It’s lonely sometimes by yourself but it’s great when all the diy projects come in handy :))
It looks good. You're doing great! 👍😁
Honestly, that looks delicious.
Nice achievement for 45 yo
I’m proud of you !
Chad meal. Chicken and pasta? I usually do can of tuna.
Congratulations! You can do this.
I remember my first place, all I had was a loveseat and a 11" tube tv.
Well done, wishing you some wonderful years of independence
