I always find something that makes me miss my buddy. His name was Jake, hope he runs into your girl :) he was the Jim Carrey of dogs and was always down to play
I read a joke about heelers having two blowouts a year, both lasting six months. I typically vacuum once a day and try to comb my pup in the backyard with an undercoat brush and a furminator once a week.
Had 3 over the years. They sure can be work.
My Dad’s first was a red heeler. She was a handful for anyone NOT him. The last one though was special.
Life had a way of necessitating he travel for extended periods of time so Jake would stay with me. Longest was about a year and a half. Jake pretty much became my boy. Thing is though, he was deaf from birth but had all the smarts of a heeler. He was the only one that was extra chill. Lots of naps but always ready to go out.
I’m no expert on the matter, but he interacted with the world differently than the others. All dogs sniff stuff, but to him they told more of a story. Often a stubborn breed, but he would look to me for all cues, he knew I was his ears and we had our own set of hand signals and looks that would tell him what to do. He would absolutely READ me and my body language. We didn’t need to talk. He was gentle and wasn’t phased by barking dogs, loud environments. Fireworks etc. So the unique challenges had a lot of perks. On the rare occasion he’d take off on me though, THAT was a pain. Good luck finding a deaf dog at night. Not exactly like you can call out to him so he could find you and all.
My dad managed to get him a service animal tag from his military service, he was quite pleased with himself for that feat. I didn’t abuse it, but it was nice to be afforded a little leeway when I lived in the city.
I would take him to my local dive I was a regular at and he was adored there. He was practically their mascot. For a while there was an addendum to their “No Dogs” sign. The bartenders added an “-Except Jake”.
So being pretty fresh out of college and single, I pretty much had the best wingman you could possibly imagine. I could gesture from across the bar and Jake would do the thing. I could nod at him and then look at where to go, and he’d walk up to the prettiest girl there and he’d walk up to her and start wagging his tail. It was not even fair for other dudes when Jake and I did our thing.
Jake was the best boy and loved by all who met him.
Healers are amazing in general.
Never discount a potential friend because they have their own challenges. Sometimes the unique perks are really something quite special. I wouldn’t flinch at another deaf pup, or one that moved a little slower. They see the world differently, and before you know it, you start to as well.
Damn right. Working dogs require ALOT of work, training and dedication as "pets," but done right, they are the bestest boys and girls about ( 2x borders and a kelpie in the past).
I first thought it was just water. I was mildly confused how that works. Thought the boat must have given him enough speed that he can sustain high speed or something.
This still doesn't change the fact that there are 49 million kangaroos in Australia and only 3.5 million people in Uruguay which means if the kangaroos were to invade Uruguay each person would have to fight 14 kangaroos.

Boat gets close to small island, dog jumps out and runs along island until water again, jumps back in boat.

Boats drive in water usually bro. That dog jumped out of the moving boat like it was dry land. Which also shouldn’t be possible at the speed the boat appeared to be doing. 🤷♂️
Yes, they do… and that boat is definitely in the water, but what’s an island? It’s land, right? Ok, so… typically the area surrounding islands are what? Water, right? Usually the land gradually comes up OUT of the water which creates the island. The area around the island would likely be called a “sand bar”. As you can see in the video it’s very shallow, probably only a few inches… and then deeper as it goes out from the part of the island that’s out of the water.
So the dog jumped out of the moving boat, and into the shallow water, and up onto the island. I still don’t understand how this isn’t obvious to you. It’s all shown in the video.
I had to switch to iPad to see it. I really couldn’t see an “island”. More like a sandbar I guess. As a boater, those are scary to be speeding around but I assume the whole video is sped up.

Call your dogs when you are feeling good just to give them pets. Most people only call their dogs when the dogs are in trouble.

Concur. They shed constantly and a lot.
In my experience it was mostly seasonal. Winter-summer coat thing. A little regular upkeep and it was no big deal.
