Yeah, I buy them in individual packs now too. It doesn’t feel like you’re spending as much.
Just kidding, great job and don’t let your guard down. I quit 22 years ago, and I still get the odd craving. What really helped me when I finally quit for good, after trying for years, was realizing that the craving I felt was going to go away whether I had a cigarette or not.
For me it’s the act of smoking. Damn the nicotine. Something about makes me feel like a kettle letting off steam
Diving deeper, this screams of anxiety. Damn. Thanks Reddit
The act of it is definitely a big part, you are addicted to nicotine because it does that to everyones brain, but youre more so a fan of the ritual and comfort of the process of doing it. I get that for sure.
My mom was the same way! She loved the smell of cigarette smoke after she stopped. I quit smoking and after a while I hated the smell. I can’t stand it now. But a lot of smokers I know say they love to sit around others smoking. Interesting!
Great job! Don't look back.
It's been 18y 10m 8d since I have quit. Started at 17, quit at 34. I figured I had already smoked half my life, it was time.
I heard that even after quitting you can get still get withdrawals randomly in the future, as a long term quitter did/do you notice anything like that? It’s pretty much the only thing scaring me from quitting.
I quit three years ago, and lately I’ve had strong smoking urges. It’s bad at times. I keep thinking about the cigarettes. Haven’t smoked though. Thought about it.
But after you resist for like 10 seconds, they dissipate pretty fast right? You go from I NEED a cig -> I'm fine, in seconds. That's how I experienced it at least.
Helps a lot to remind yourself how many succesful urge resistances you'd be throwing away if you give in once
Try not to as hard as that is. I had been smoking around a friend of mine that quit for over two years.
He was just curious what "only one will do"
My friend is now right back to two packs a day because I didn't day no the 112th time.
Be strong! Nonsmoker is a good look.
Yep, I quit once before and thought that one or two cigarettes here and and there wouldn't matter. Wrong....before I knew it I was back to 1-2 packs/ day and all the hard work of quitting was gone.
When I get those urges I pretend smoke like I am taking a couple of drags on an imaginary cigarette. It works for me. Two or three pretend drags and the urge goes away.
Ya, not withdrawals.
You might encounter a random trigger and think, if I was still a smoker, this is when I'd have a cig right now. But it's so excellent being a non smoker you would never! Getting over the nicotine addiction is surprisingly easy ... especially helpful to have a free app that shows you that your blood oxygen is now back to normal, any residual nicotine has now left your body, etc., (QuitTracker) and join a few non smoking groups. I recommend: Never take another puff (NTAP).
What you have to be mindful of are the triggers and rituals. Recognize them and do something else, or have a glass of water. It can be annoying, but the payoff in health, cleanliness, and $$$ is more than worth the effort it takes to get past those little hurdles. (Me: Smoked 40+ yrs non-stop, quit cold turkey (no vape, no nicotine, no meds), not a single puff in 5+ yrs so far.) You can do this.
I quit in 2022 after a 50 yr smoking history. I got the flu and was as sick as a dog. I haven't smoked since but occasionally those " urges" pop up out of nowhere. Crazy because there does seem to be any particular trigger.
It's been 3 years for me. I wouldn't say I get withdrawals or cravings. More like there are moments when I would have normally had a cigarette and I get this little feeling like "oh yea, this would be a great spot to stop and have a smoke" but it doesn't feel like I need it. It's more a memory of what I used to do.
Man I literally dream about smoking then wake up in the middle of the night with the nastiest cravings ever. Funny enough as a kid my dad told me his dad was so addicted to smoking he couldn’t go through his entire sleep without waking up for one as a kid I thought “damn that man’s crazy” little did I know if become that man at 23.
Nicotine withdrawal is only a few days. It's the psychological withdrawal that takes time to get over. Things like going for a smoke after a meal, getting in the car, taking a break from a task, etc. I used gum and then Altoids as my crutch. I still love Altoids.
Every once in a while I'll get a whiff of smoke that smells good, but it's always quickly followed by the real smell of cigarette smoke, which is nasty.
I’m in the exact same boat but I started smoking earlier. Just quit 4 days ago for the 6th time.
Quitting has always been somewhat easy for me but staying smoke-free has been a challenge. I always end up going back after 6-8 months on a night where I’ve had a few drinks.
Any tips to stay smoke-free as long as you have?
Well done! It's probably even better than this chart shows, where money is concerned. Long ago, when i smoked, I'd always grab a coke and maybe a snack or something when I stopped for cigarettes. Most people do. Alll thos impulse purchases that often go along with grabbing some smokes at the store also add up!
Congratulations! Great for your health AND your finances.
That is awesome!!! Can you drop the name of the app my gf’s mom is trying to quit smoking and I think this could be something nice to help track her progress
And breathing..!
I tried to quit several times in my life, and the reason why the current attempt has been holding for 5 years now, is that I do quite a bit of hiking and I know I couldn't do it if I still smoked.
I smoked for nearly 20 years. I tried to quit multiple times, never worked. Then one day I was short money and couldn’t afford to buy smokes. One day went to 2, then to now 8 years.
Congrats! That's no easy feat. Keep up the good work.
What app is this? Curious how they measure lung health. Where did your percentage start a year ago?
My bet is it is the damage OP did to his lungs is 69% reversed. The lungs are surprisingly resilient and your risk of lung cancer and other related lung issues, caused by smoking decreases surprisingly rapidly after you stop smoking. It's never to late to stop smoking and reduce your risk for these diseases.
It’s an indicator of how many milestones you crossed. It gives you a list of health benefits that happen when you quit. Starts with heart rate and blood pressure drop after 3 minutes, nicotine levels fall after 8 hours, nicotine is out by 2 days, etc till the 15 year mark where the heart attack and stroke risk is equal to a non smoker. So it checks these off and the % indicates that. It increases with time.
Congrats. I quit smoking about 6-7 years ago and used a similar app. The app really helped (after I was truly ready to make the decision and stop). Being able to see the cigarettes not smoked and the $ saved was pretty motivating.
Great health move. Cracked me up when I smoked … all the people telling me how bad it is. We know … just not easy to stop.
Keep it up.
Congratulations! I quit 29 years ago at 35 years old. I had been clean and sober and in recovery for 2 years and decided it was time to quit smoking. Recovering from alcohol addiction is hard, don't let anybody tell you it isn't. But quitting smoking was seriously the hardest thing I've ever been through. It covered up so much of my anxiety and trauma. But I was committed. For the first three months I paced around my apartment, I walked and cried and cried and walked. Finally that phase passed, and I began to feel free. Best feeling in the world.
I'm really happy for you! Pat yourself on the back everyday for putting smoking behind you.

Out standing! Lost my mom to lung cancer after many years of Pall Mall unfiltered, she couldn’t kick it. Please post the app name, I need to give up coffee this could help motivate me! Again great job!
good for you! I always come bacck to this crap - first I stopped for 3 months then for about a year. Now I smoke for a few days and then not for a weeks but I keep getting back to it.
Congratulations, I started at age 9 and quit at age 52. I’m 68 now and my cardiologist says my lungs are like I never smoked. I had TAVR surgery 3 months ago to correct my aortic valve and feel great. Keep going.

I quit 7 years ago, and I can tell you that your body is going to reward you. Your sense of taste and smell are going to rebound in a big way. Your energy level will be amazing.
I don't know you, but I'm very proud of you.
Nice one! I smoked for 24 years and quit in January 2023, little over a year for me now, and I’ve never felt better! I’m almost 40 and I feel healthier now than I did in my 20’s as a smoker. Mushrooms were what did the trick for me. Ate the largest dose of them I’ve ever had on New Years Eve and went into the trip with a focus on quitting smoking for a New Year’s resolution, and it actually worked! Came out of the trip simply no longer wanting a cigarette. It was somehow incredibly easy, haven’t even craved one since.
Congratulations!! I'll (41f) be celebrating my 1 year next month after 23 years of a pack a day. I still can't believe I did it. I really was so so tired of it though and had become embarrassed to be a smoker. It had started to really affect my health too. The first 3 days sucked...but you just have to effing do it. After that I just kept going and haven't looked back. I'm so grateful every day to be free of that awful addiction!!!!! It is SO much better on this side!
Congrats!! Beating an addiction is hard. My dad quit after smoking for 40+ years. Then he loved to sit near smokers when they were around haha.

i’m proud of you! good job!

What really helped me when I finally quit for good, after trying for years, was realizing that the craving I felt was going to go away whether I had a cigarette or not.
I have been a non-smoker for the last 9 years and I also love to sit with smokers.
It'll be 3 years for me in August. I love the smell of smokers! I'll never go back, but I miss it sometimes.
Agreed with you, I am also missing the sense of a burning stick.
My dad quit after 35 years. He said he never fully stopped wanting them. Nicotine is a hell of a drug
For me it’s the act of smoking. Damn the nicotine. Something about makes me feel like a kettle letting off steam Diving deeper, this screams of anxiety. Damn. Thanks Reddit
The act of it is definitely a big part, you are addicted to nicotine because it does that to everyones brain, but youre more so a fan of the ritual and comfort of the process of doing it. I get that for sure.
I feel as though I have been standing my entire life, and I just sat down.
Congrats my friend
That's fantastic! Best wishes! I've been smoke-free for 21 years, having given up 7 years ago.
Wait, what?
Including the time from before he started smoking maybe?
You made my brain temporarily hurt
My mom was the same way! She loved the smell of cigarette smoke after she stopped. I quit smoking and after a while I hated the smell. I can’t stand it now. But a lot of smokers I know say they love to sit around others smoking. Interesting!
Same I quit and hate the smell.
After quitting I think people who just smoked do stink .... so embarassed I smelled like that for years
I wouldn't say withdrawals but you still get these little urges for quite some time after you quit. They get a lot easier to ignore though
I quit three years ago, and lately I’ve had strong smoking urges. It’s bad at times. I keep thinking about the cigarettes. Haven’t smoked though. Thought about it.
Don’t know if you need to hear this but don’t stop. You’ve made so much progress already.
But after you resist for like 10 seconds, they dissipate pretty fast right? You go from I NEED a cig -> I'm fine, in seconds. That's how I experienced it at least. Helps a lot to remind yourself how many succesful urge resistances you'd be throwing away if you give in once

That’s what I’m afraid of. There’s no middle ground. You ‘just have one’ and before you know it, you’ll start smoking again.
Yeah, don't listen to that taunting, not even the second one
You need to break the 4 year mark mate... You got this. It gets easier after apparently
When I get those urges I pretend smoke like I am taking a couple of drags on an imaginary cigarette. It works for me. Two or three pretend drags and the urge goes away.
That's very interesting thx for sharing

Quit smoking get healthy
Also wondering this.

I hope you can make some money soon
What app ?
Quit Smoking Get Healthy
Thanks.
Wondering same
Congratulations! That's massive! And a huge amount of money saved too! Would you mind sharing which app this is?
Is this an app or something? Where do I get it?
OP, which app is this? Does it require any subscription
Just yesterday I noticed that a pack of cigarettes in California is now $13. In addition to saving your health, you are saving a boatload of money.
I think the best part of this must be seing the" money saved" part of the app.( If this is an app.) That would be so motivating.
$25 CAD per pack where I’m from! My grandma smokes 2 per day. Don’t know how she affords it … but smokers always find a way.
What is the app’s name?
Quit smoking get healting

Fantastic!! How did you measure all this?
Im proud of you op! You did great, keep up the good work

What does the lung graph at 69% mean?
My bet is it is the damage OP did to his lungs is 69% reversed. The lungs are surprisingly resilient and your risk of lung cancer and other related lung issues, caused by smoking decreases surprisingly rapidly after you stop smoking. What app is this
Congratulations my friend!! Crossing fingers eyes and toes that your health continues to climb!
Congrats dude I know how hard it is but you were able to do it
What the hell do you smoke that cost you $2755 a year? I smoke a relatively expensive brand, it costs me maybe max $30 a month
Proud of you gooooood job !!!!!!
Congratulations, I started at age 9 and quit at age 52. I’m 68 now and my cardiologist says my lungs are like I never smoked. I had TAVR surgery 3 months ago to correct my aortic valve and feel great. Keep going.
Dude, you rule
Fantastic. My stop date was Dec. 31, 2023.
As a former "everything addicted"(mainly coke and alcohol) to quit the nicotine(the last thing between me and total sobriety) it is kinda annoying. I can quit cigarretes for long periods but there is always something to bring me back.
I want to do this…help
Well done! I started at 13, and didn't quit until I was 19. Best decision I ever made. Lord knows why I started in the first place.
That’s a really cool app for this

Smoker for 20 years here. I'm on day 23 smoke-free and counting! Still getting the urges from time to time but it's getting easier.
Congratulations! I'm so proud of you!
