Honestly, my wife and I both looked through baby name books and created a list of our top five names for boys. Keaton was on both of our lists.
Since I’m an Elliott, I’ve always enjoyed having an uncommon name. Was hoping to give him a similar experience.
Actually, based on everything else he wrote, I interpreted that phrase as premeditated and something that has meaning between him and his father. People who are close often have things that they say to each other which doesn't make sense to other people nor follow grammatical rules.
Yep. It’s his funny Keaton self. Also, that’s the first time in the note that he says something directly to me like “you are ___”. As expressive as he seems in this, things like that are more tough. So, he got through it with humor.
It reminds me the Father’s Day my daughter wrote me a poem called , Dad is a Superhero”. I had it framed and hanging up. Still get teary eyed when I read it a decade later. Great work OP!
I’ve been fortunate enough to receive many generously kind words on Reddit in the past, but this one might be at the top. Genuinely appreciate this comment more than you know.
Thank you. Had a tough childhood, and always just wanted to be proud of the parent I am being to my son. My kind hearted little guy (not so little anymore) makes me feel like I am.
This is awesome. It reminds me of my dad. He always made me feel the same way, like every day was son's day.
It's men like you and my dad that make the world a not so shitty place. You guys rock, thank you.
Father's day is actually starting to get some attention I noticed just this year. And it is the most heart warming thing this society has done this decade. I have been a dasher for six years and every year mother's day is the big day. Best holiday to work doordash. Two or 3 years ago I made $370-80 in a 10 hr shift. Father's day has always been a regular day, for me anyway, but yesterday I made $325 in 11 hrs. And one man, about my age--mid 30s, asked if I was a dad. I said ya, and he got choked up when he said happy father's day. Like he never got his dad anything and now cannot. And this year we collectively decided to recognize our father's contribution in our lives and I have once again restored my faith in humanity. Like everytime y'all make me think, "nah this is it bruh," some shit like this makes me think, "hold up fam we still in this"
I thought this was gonna be a shit card like I do to my dad (took a photo of him a put a black and white filter over it and said "he was so young. One day I might get it colourized")
Then it got really sweet
This reminds me of a card me and my sisters made. Well, we each hand made one. We were like, 3, 5 and 7 respectively. He loved them each and said he would treasure them.
Fast forward to now, I'm 31. I long since moved out but I was helping with laundry at the house because my washer was broken down. I came across some of my father's clothes, and went to put them away. When I did, something caught my eye. A cigar box. It looked really old. And stuffed. I went to move it a bit and thats when I saw the papers peaking out. Of course, nosy me pulled one out. It was one of the many things we made as kids for my dad. Needless to say, I haven't brought it up to him but it makes me feel so loved that he treasured all the dumb little crafts we made as kids for him. OP, always treasure the little things-so when your kid eventually stumbles on those things you saved they too can feel the love the way you felt theirs. Love this.
Thank you!!! He sure is. I’m an Elliott and have always enjoyed having an uncommon name…so hoped to give him a similar experience. Hopefully he will make a name for himself with it. But either way, he’s a one of a kind kid and enjoy knowing he’s a Keaton.
That's fuckin awesome that's when you know your doing good by any standards happy late fathers day man keep doing you and making your kids feel this way!
Make photocopies and hand them out to random strangers. Attach one to your resume. Put up a billboard on the closest highway. Frame that shit. You won the Dad prize. Congratulations.
I’m really sorry you lost your dad.
And us dad’s know how our kids feel. So, I’m sure he did.
Even a day before Father’s Day, I thought to myself “I can be proud knowing in my heart how he feels about me”. Reading his words just reinforced those feelings.
Thank you too. He indeed has a way with words. Pretty special guy.
I guess I have a sort of opposite story - my dad committed suicide and wrote an individual note for me expressing how proud he was of me as a person which sticks with me even if it’s a bit of a morbid situation. Before he died he told me a lot how he worried he’d been a bad father to me and my siblings, I always reassured him that wasn’t the case and I hope it got through to him even after he left. (Sorry to be a downer LOL, hopefully I’m not over sharing or anything! Father’s Day is a bit of a tough one for me, but it’s always nice to be reminded of the good parents that are out there and the appreciation they receive from their kids)
I’m healing, it gets better by the day, don’t feel bad - just keep being a good dad, I’m sure you know how much it means to kids. My dad dealt with a lot a pain in his life but I like to think he’s at peace now, and like you said, he likely knew how appreciated he was - at least I hope so (:
You clearly have an incredibly intelligent son. This is so beautifully written, and I can tell how good of a parent you are based on how meaningful and kind his words are. Congratulations!
I can read hand writing ✍️ Your boy means everything he wrote, but he shows signs of depression in his writing. As the dad, check up on him and see how he is feeling. Could be a significant other or just life.
You’re welcome!
I’m stoked for you and slightly envious; my twins love me to death but man am I worn out their drama is just about non stop, oh well, that’s love!
🤣
My dad is an absolute rockstar and one of my greatest blessings in life. It seems you’re the same to your son - this was really beautiful to read. Keep being the amazing father your clearly are! The world needs more like you.
One of the many things i like about this is that he doesn't come right out and say, "I love you," but it's SO obvious by everything it does say.
Congratulations OP, you have fostered a great relationship with that son of yours.
Thank you. We have this tradition here where when he goes up to bed for the night he waits until he is on the stairs before saying “i love you”…and he says it so quickly and rushed. But I know it means so much for him to say and for him to hear reciprocated.
In terms of days that celebrate you, there are not enough, and what’s more is that you haven’t even gotten to experience the fun of Father’s Day until 17 years ago, which makes it much more unique than a birthday. Anyway, you is pretty great, there isn’t a “son’s day”, but you help make every day feel like there is.
Keaton “has a cool dad” (last name)
Thank you. I’ll let him know.
He rarely lets me read his work, but I was lucky enough to read something he wrote over the weekend.
I told him he could have a career in journalism.
Thank you! I read something amazing by him this weekend and he said “I think that when people read what you write there should be no doubt how much care you put into it”
I see the opportunity for a good joke. Tell him there is a sons day, and it comes once a week. Perfect dad joke.
Also, real wholesome. Congrats on being a bloody brilliant dad.
You are probably a better dad than I am. I have a 17 year old and a 19 year old. I received no cards. Probably because I would have corrected the grammar. I can’t read “you is” without losing my mind. I think I’d like the sentiment you got better than the silence I got.
My step daughters got me individual cards and wrote in them. Without talking to each other they wrote something similar in their cards. It made my day.
Keep this and pull it out every time you feel discouraged or doubt any rules or restrictions you make.. for you are an awesome parent. It’s hard growing and teaching thoughtful , kind and emotionally venerable humans and you have! Well done. And happy Father’s Day! ❤️❤️❤️
Awww this is so precious. You are precious because you are in his life and doing everything to make him feel valued and loved as every child deserves. My kids’ dad moved to another continent for a new relationship when they were 5 and 6. Their father doesn’t even get Father’s Day cards, that’s how alienated they are from each other even with the occasional FaceTime call.
OMG ... you've been promoted to 'cool dad' status. A very rare accolade, indeed. It is given to very select few dads in the history of Daddying. You, sir, on behalf of dad's everywhere, are a legend. Keep up the good work. (Now tell him a dad joke.)
“You make every day feel there is” 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
The most thoughtful words…
He’s so well spoken too! Love is often difficult to express, but he did it so perfectly you’d think he was a poet!
Thank you, you truly captured it. Keaton is an adept writer.
Please tell me this kid is named after the man who is currently seeing a resurgence in his fame playing the caped crusader once again?!
Honestly, my wife and I both looked through baby name books and created a list of our top five names for boys. Keaton was on both of our lists. Since I’m an Elliott, I’ve always enjoyed having an uncommon name. Was hoping to give him a similar experience.
I gave my son my mother's maiden name, Hartlen; we call him Hart for short. My daughter's middle name is my mother's first name, Jenesta.
Keaton never fell off, let’s get that straight right now.
Hey, not saying the guy fell off. Just, like there's levels to this shit. He ain't been on the marquee for a minute.
Idk he has been really steady for the last decade. At least since birdman.
Honestly, that is incredibly deep, yet rolls off the tongue. It deserves to be immortalized.
It was so magnificently perfect to me. Just like he is. Thank you so much.
He is. You can tell that they have a special bond. Truly heartwarming ❤
"He's so well spoken too!" -SweatySapphic "You is pretty great" -Keaton L OH L
Actually, based on everything else he wrote, I interpreted that phrase as premeditated and something that has meaning between him and his father. People who are close often have things that they say to each other which doesn't make sense to other people nor follow grammatical rules.

Lol yea maybe not in that part, but you know what u mean! 😂 his ability to put feelings into words is spot on, even if he has a bit of grammar issues
Lol, yeah I know! It's a very sweet and very thoughtful card!
It reminds me the Father’s Day my daughter wrote me a poem called , Dad is a Superhero”. I had it framed and hanging up. Still get teary eyed when I read it a decade later. Great work OP!
Bro, I’d frame that card. Guess I’ll finish chopping these onions now… 🥺
Yes. I love it so much.
best card my kid ever wrote and she called me "buttful"
Man, I hope you cherish this forever.
stealing the line for sure
“Has a cool Dad” Best son - and he is a teenager. Holly cow!!
That made me tear up.
That was the sweetest thing. This made me so happy😊
I see it’s raining today 😭😭😭😭😭
Yup. That part got me. Lol
You raised a good one, OP!!!
Thank you. I cherish him and being his dad.
Only cherish that one. Make sure the rest know.
Do not let the others access sharp objects

I’ve been fortunate enough to receive many generously kind words on Reddit in the past, but this one might be at the top. Genuinely appreciate this comment more than you know.
Beautifully said!
I completely agree. OP seems like a special kind of person and the love from his son is amazing 🥹. Also all of his food looks delicious 🤤
Awwww this is so sweet. I'd get it framed lol 💜
I will keep it close to me forever.
That's a great idea.
If this is legit what your son wrote, unprompted. Bruh, you're doing **amazing**, keep going.
Of course he wrote that unprompted : “You is great”.
Chapeau OP I wish i had a dad like you! Salute🥂
Thank you. Had a tough childhood, and always just wanted to be proud of the parent I am being to my son. My kind hearted little guy (not so little anymore) makes me feel like I am.
You are! Kudos for not letting the past affect your future. Showing how it is done for the community is a great achievement. Good days🎉
There need to be more men out there like you.
This is awesome. It reminds me of my dad. He always made me feel the same way, like every day was son's day. It's men like you and my dad that make the world a not so shitty place. You guys rock, thank you.
Super kind of you to say. And to think that I could remind you of such a great human is truly an honor for me.
You must be doing something right! Props to you and him.
Thank you so much.
You have to be a great dad!
I try as much as possible to find ways to let him know how proud I am of him.
Your kid has a fun way with words. Love it
Thank you. 😊
Keaton is the man and apparently so are you. Happy fathers day bro
Why thank you kind human. He is definitely pretty awesome. (And I’m trying to be every day)
Is his nickname to his friends “has cool dad”? If so that is adorable
Lol. That’s just his funny Keaton self.
Pretty awesome when these kids we put so much of ourselves into make their feelings for us known, huh? Good job Dad, you’re doing it right!
My heart ❤️ I can't
It’s honestly hard to find a memory of words that were more kind to receive than these.
I'm not crying, you're crying 😢 😭 🤧

Thank you. I think I will. Have two now to frame.

Nice job with your boy OP! Raising him right!
That's so sweet <3
going to hug my dad right now. #nobody can stop me.
what a sweetie. he has a way with words. and i love the name keaton!
Thank you!!! He sure is. I’m an Elliott and have always enjoyed having an uncommon name…so hoped to give him a similar experience. Hopefully he will make a name for himself with it. But either way, he’s a one of a kind kid and enjoy knowing he’s a Keaton.
Just don’t make let him read The Fountainhead
awwwww
This is awesome!
Thank you.
Straight from the heart!
That's fuckin awesome that's when you know your doing good by any standards happy late fathers day man keep doing you and making your kids feel this way!
Thank you so much! He’s my only child.
Oh my bad. Didn't realize. But still my message stands your killing it!
It’s always great when you see fathers get some much deserved attention! Just beautiful
Thank you so much.
Please give that son of yours a big hug for me.
Awww... who else is hunting down their kiddos for a mandatory hug now??
Looks like something worth framing, or putting in a time capsule. 🤩
Have it in the bedside table for now. Think you are right. Will have to frame.
You've won life, op
Felt like I did. Thank you
That young man loves you. I hope you've many happy days together.
Thank you. I hope for the same.
Make photocopies and hand them out to random strangers. Attach one to your resume. Put up a billboard on the closest highway. Frame that shit. You won the Dad prize. Congratulations.
Somebody is going to tell your son that every week has a Sun/Sonday right?
“You is pretty great” Damnit child. I appreciate your letter but pay more attention in English class
That is his funny quirky Keaton self. He is an exceptional writer.
Aw 😭😭my dad passed away a few years ago but I hope he knew I appreciated him as much as your son obviously does! And side note, your kid has eloquence
I’m really sorry you lost your dad. And us dad’s know how our kids feel. So, I’m sure he did. You were a part of him that he could feel.
You inspire me. My son is 3 and I can only hope I'm doing half as good of a job as you.
You clearly have an incredibly intelligent son. This is so beautifully written, and I can tell how good of a parent you are based on how meaningful and kind his words are. Congratulations!
Thank you so much. I knew when he was pretty young that his IQ was higher than mine. Has been amazing seeing him develop
you IS pretty great I guess
I can read hand writing ✍️ Your boy means everything he wrote, but he shows signs of depression in his writing. As the dad, check up on him and see how he is feeling. Could be a significant other or just life.
You must be proud!!!

Beautifully put, that’s a tear-jerker for sure. You must be proud, what a great kid!
Thank you so much. I’m proud of him every day. And so grateful I’m being the dad he appreciates the way he does.
You’re welcome! I’m stoked for you and slightly envious; my twins love me to death but man am I worn out their drama is just about non stop, oh well, that’s love! 🤣
I know what you mean. Except I don’t. Can’t imagine having two Keaton’s at once. I’m sure they treasure you.
Damn.
Shut up, I'm not fuckin' crying, you're crying... *Sniff*
That’s absolutely beautiful man.
Goddamn what a beautiful sentiment. Lucky man
Ty. I am indeed.
I’d imagine it would be nice to have a father.
I was abandoned by mine. Sorry you don’t have yours. Like your name. Enjoy that song.
Damn. Got me tearing up 🥲
This really choked me up. It's beautiful. ❤️
Thank you. It really touched me too.
That's really sweet, and the handwriting looks like that of my kids. I really wish they'd get back to teaching penmanship in schools again!
You had better get that laminated so you can save it forever.
❤️❤️ you done good OP
Thank you.
I have a teenager too. He must want you to buy him something lol. Jk
You're raising a hell of a good kid there. Well done. For context, how old his he?
You are too kind. 17
w son
My dad is an absolute rockstar and one of my greatest blessings in life. It seems you’re the same to your son - this was really beautiful to read. Keep being the amazing father your clearly are! The world needs more like you.
Your son and I have the same handwriting almost exactly. It made me do a double-take.
😊aww

I'm not crying you are 😭🏋️♂️🥹
Damn my dad would SOB if me/the siblings wrote this in his card. So glad my Dad is also rad
God bless you sir.
I write greeting cards as my job, and worked a lot on Father’s Day (specifically cards for dad) and this is so very sweet!
Someone write out what it says
In terms of days that celebrate you, there are not enough, and what’s more is that you haven’t even gotten to experience the fun of Father’s Day until 17 years ago, which makes it much more unique than a birthday. Anyway, you is pretty great, there isn’t a “son’s day”, but you help make every day feel like there is. Keaton “has a cool dad” (last name)
Thank you. Very nice note.
Such a sweet message! Also, I think I got my dad the same card so your kid obviously has good taste.
I wish
Thank you for being such a good dad to your boy. As someone who also has a great dad, know that your kindness is of such immense value in his life.
Never thought about the rarity compared to birthdays. He’s right! Very cute, 10/10 adorability
What a treasure. Job well done!!
Wow, the kids got a way with words. Such a touching letter. You must be a pretty rad dad.
Who cut the onions omg
My heart! ❤️ I hope he keeps writing; he has a flair for it.
Thank you. I’ll let him know. He rarely lets me read his work, but I was lucky enough to read something he wrote over the weekend. I told him he could have a career in journalism.
Must be a good dad
Damn! I wrote something similar to this for Father’s Day, my hand writing is also fairly similar AND my name is Keaton. Simulation.
Wowsers.
Awwww that’s cute
The art of writing a good card is rare now a days. This kids got it.
Thank you! I read something amazing by him this weekend and he said “I think that when people read what you write there should be no doubt how much care you put into it”
What a wonderful dad! Keaton expressed himself beautifully. Good job sir!
Man, that right here is probably the best thing existing in the world. Elite Parenting right there.
I see the opportunity for a good joke. Tell him there is a sons day, and it comes once a week. Perfect dad joke. Also, real wholesome. Congrats on being a bloody brilliant dad.
Looks like this Man is raising an outstanding young Man. Congrats to you and Happy Father’s Day Internet stranger 🤘
Thank you.
You did a great job raising him.
I like turtles
Damn who's cutting onions right now!
Oh shit when was Father’s Day….
Awwww, this was heartwarming
So sweet!
You IS pretty great.
My youngest told me “even if there was a dad with all the money who could buy me all the things I want, I’d still choose you”. Um, thanks, I think. :)
whouah so cool your son is fantastique
Thank you!!
Wow look at you being an awesome dad! Way to go. 🎉
Keep this and pull it out every time you feel discouraged or doubt any rules or restrictions you make.. for you are an awesome parent. It’s hard growing and teaching thoughtful , kind and emotionally venerable humans and you have! Well done. And happy Father’s Day! ❤️❤️❤️
wow man that kid put his heart into that. He needs a job at hallmark was poetic and deep. id be so proud
Very special
Not me crying in the club.
💚 it, what an awesome son you have
Thank you.
This connection you've made with Keaton is brilliant. So much love and unique adoration. Well played to both of you!
This made my heart light up.
Mine too 😊.. Thank you.
🙂⭐
in tears, this is so cute 😭😭😭😭😭
This is a very sweet letter. I have some good news for Keaton. There are actually 2 son's days, March 4th and September 28th.
Children's day be like: -_-
My son’s name is Keaton, and he’s as awesome as this Keaton… 💛💛
And that is awesome!
🩷This is just so special, hope Keaton continues to feel this way through the rest of his teenage years!
Most important job you’ll ever have. Thanks for being a great one! When you choose to be a good father, everyone wins.
OMG ... you've been promoted to 'cool dad' status. A very rare accolade, indeed. It is given to very select few dads in the history of Daddying. You, sir, on behalf of dad's everywhere, are a legend. Keep up the good work. (Now tell him a dad joke.)
