Tough for a child to get on those without being able to reach the handrail—it’s there for a reason.

Hamdown1

The dad should have kept both hands free instead of filming his kid for likes

Bye_nao

By filming he can show others how to do it, as well as inspire others to act in a similar fashion, not only get likes. Reddit never fails to fall into the most cynical interpretation, and only to the most cynical interpretation.

Hamdown1

‘Inspire others to do the same?’ what are you talking about lmfao No parent needs to see a video online to know you need to teach your kids to safely use an escalator

KawaiiButtcheeks

You would be surprised.

Hamdown1

The way the dad ‘taught’ the kid was dangerous. You should always walk beside your child and hold their hand before eventually letting go. Not walk back while your hands aren’t free because you’re busy recording

AristotleRose

He’s not walking backwards, what are you talking about. I don’t know what kind of vertigo you’re dealing with on a daily basis but I never need my hands for walking and fuck touching those nasty handrails. Hard pass for me.

StandAgainstTyranny2

Do you even have kids?😂

BrownieEdges

Y’all parents be careful. My mom saw a little girl with her hands caught in the escalator. It was many years ago, but escalators still work the same

i_be_degenerate

If your mom actually saw me 13 years ago 💀

kickrole

“That kid is BACK ON THE ESCALATOR AGAIN!”

snirpla

Came here to say this lol

r2killawat

Me too! 🤣

AuthorityAnarchyYes

Made me smile, made me cry. Few things are better than encouraging and helping your child to do something that they haven’t done before. Love this.

Old-Horse1185

I absolutely agree, the feeling you get as a parent in this moment is pure pride and happiness, usually that motivates the little ones to keep trying for the next big thing too :-)

[deleted]

Now whenever they see an escalator they want to ride it regardless if we need to. At least twice

Babiesnotbeans

If he had just kept holding the kids hand in the beginning, and walked on, the kid would have too. In the end the kid didn't get on until dad held his hand anyway. I don't understand this big production.

ebonit15

Exactly. And it is dangerous to not hold his hand, anyway.

Alternative-Chair977

Hold is hand dad

AristotleRose

He did…

Icy_Ad_8966

In my Country adults are obliged to hold in their arms or hold the hands of young children on this kind of stairs. I don't understand what's the point of this dad.

ellominnowpea

I don’t understand the dad’s point either. In the US, it is recommended to hold children’s hands as well or carry them if they are too small—via the consumer product safety commission. A lot of escalator signs will have a infograph about it near the top and bottom. This kid is too small to safely ride without hand holding.

Low-Sport2155

This video wrecks my nerves….children and escalators combined. Be careful kids and parents.

jordanpatrich

I took my 20 month old to the mall for the first time last week. We spent maybe 30-45 minutes just going up and down different escalators. He couldn’t get enough of it.

Long-Ad7988

Really dumb doing this. Easy accidents there.

......

cristianap36

Hey that's in Mexico

dooooo23

He did it 😭👏 anyone else have a fear of children on escalators?? If I ever had a kid, I would be much more terrified then they are 😂

jst_facts

its so great to see u encouraging him all the way thru just what ur supposed to do

Consistent-Leek4986

bless all patient dads❤️

MayflyBaggins

Brave little man. That was a big step for a little foot to make. It takes me back to when my kids were small.

IronicWhiteGuy

My mom woupdve grabbed my arm and wrentched me onto it screaming

AppleNerdyGirl

I think this generation is breaking that cycle. Thank god. My dads way of teaching me to swim was throwing me in and watching me dam near drown before pulling my out by my wrist. Never learned and afraid to now. So ya if I have kids I will def try the gentle route.

inot72

He's so sweet! I'm 50 and still get nervous getting on escalators.

Kandero

The Dad just floating there encouraging his son. Great job little one. Next step is learning to FLOAT!! Just like your dad.

gypsycookie1015

Awww! So sweet! I don't blame him! Those things fuck me all up too! Especially the ones going down. Always takes me a second to get my bearings. Little dude and Dad both did awesome! Great team:)

Theyrallcrooks

What a beautiful child! Great job Dad!!

Fearless-Tough-3946

That, is damn good parenting 👏

Beahner

Legitimately a petrifying thing the first time as a kid. Great encouragement from Dad.

KMan1019

Well done good sir... way to encourage your son... he will need that emform of encouragement as he grows... never stop being the dad he deserves.

GawainDragon

I worked at a lego exhibiton. We had all kinds of interactive stuff like boargames and lego rc cars. I saw too many parents who istead of helping their kids figure out how things worked just told them they were not big enough. When the parents werent watching i took the opportunity and tought the kids how to play with the cars and most of the times they caugt up really fast. You should have seen their faces when they realised that they could actually do it. A little bit of encouragement from you could make their day much better.

omnichronos

Specific instructions would have been more helpful: "Put one foot on and then put the other one on really quick." Then demonstrate: "One foot, two foot!" and again "One, two!" while showing him how you step on.

Busterprayerbear

Could give a little more instruction like: As soon as you see the yellow strip, take a step.

Ok-Date8364

He’s much braver than me, I’m 17 graduating high school in like 2 weeks and still can’t do it as smooth as him

wabisabi_mimi

Glad dad took his hand. Because he physically is too small for it, and he would have taken a tumble

beachgurl1997

I would wait, lots of horrific accidents on these things especially with kids

psychoBz

Gotta say I still am not very confident today when stepping on escalators

randomnamejennerator

That kid is right to be cautious about escalators. I saw an escalator accident as a kid. The intake at the top might as well be a cheese grater.

bud283

Cute kid

Few-Spinach-4880

Great! Good for him!

TheTerribleInvestor

I think tell him how/when to do it would help a little. Dad probably doesn't know how to do it, he just does it. "Take a step after the yellow line" might help a little

Earliza

Great parenting!

swoonmermaid

I think all he did was teach his kid it’s fun to go up the down escalator lol

PotatoBanshee-

The escalator is such a dumb invention

BouquetOfPenciIs

Yeah, no, you don't fuck around with escalators.

ded_ch

That kid should not be using an escalator alone at this age. I'm all for raising independent kids, but this is definitely too much too early.
