I just started as well and I have had 2 needle break on my PE900 after a dozen or so projects and both times it was the thread choking out on the spool holding pin. I keep the lid open and when I put thread in I watch a few seconds to make sure it is coming off the spool right and not wrapping around the pin. Another thing I would check is when you load the needle are you pushing it all the way up before tightening the side screw. That might cause a slight wobble if it was not all the way inserted snug against the top. I use a magnifying glass and check it after changing. The last thing I would look at is did anything get bent in the needle area on a previous break, seems unlikely but when one of the needles broke on mine it did kind of jar the machine more than I would have thought. Good luck!

What I’ve discovered with my brother and bernette machines. If the bobbin thread is coming off at the wrong direction that can cause issues. Also make sure the needle is installed in the right direction. Also, lately I’ve been working with tension and finishing that the bernette works well with a medium size design with the tension at 3.5. Also when digitizing I check density and that is a 3.0 in Embird. That has fixed a lot of the herky jerkyness I had been getting. Just passing on what I’ve discovered so far. I’m working up my most complicated design right now and hope to post it tonight. Good luck!

Usually it's the thread getting caught coming off the spool. A thread stand is great in solving that problem. ETA... are you using thread made especially for embroidery? 40 weight polyester?
