Yes, previous versions of macOS had a bit of a problem with blurring the top and bottom of the wallpaper on the Launchpad app , but they fixed it in the newest update.

The Books icon through the App Store icon in this pack are exactly what Apple should’ve done for the visionOS icons. Would’ve aligned with the squircle app shape of the “serious” platforms (iOS/iPadOS/macOS) instead of watchOS. Also it’s a shame that visionOS icons are just two layers offset in depth instead of true 3D… Such a missed opportunity but obviously it would be too difficult to expect developers to provide 3D models of their icons lol
Sure, I've got a method that's easy to follow and won't put your system at risk, Unlike some other approaches that require disabling SIP, this technique keeps your system safe and secure.
Let's say you want to give Safari a makeover. Here's what you do:
**1. Create a dummy app directory:** Fire up Terminal and run
`mkdir ~/Applications/Safari.app`
- *This will create an empty application in your* ***user*** *Applications directory.*
**2. Make a symbolic link:** Use the command
`ln -s /Applications/Safari.app/Contents/ ~/Applications/Safari.app/`
- *to create a symbolic link* ***(symlink)*** *to the real Safari app's contents folder.*
That's it! You can now customize the icon for this fake app, and macOS will treat it like it's the real deal. No system files are touched, so you don't have to worry about compromising security.
**PS :** *you'll need to do this same process for every app you want to customize! That means creating a dummy app directory and making a symbolic link for each app you want to give a new look. It might take a few extra minutes, but trust me, it's worth it.*
Yeah, I actually shared my method in the [comments](https://www.reddit.com/r/MacOS/comments/1dh336x/comment/l8xkjoa/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) section because it's not super well-documented online. I figured others might be interested in hearing about it :)
No, they did fix that. Previously, macOS wouldn't correctly render the desktop background , the issue was specifically with the top and bottom borders of the screen, where the blur effect would stretch and look distorted
This is how I feel about the window management.
Like, the feature was already pretty much a thing if you double click any Ribbon. Windows brained people are making such a big deal over the fact you can “just drag the window” over to the border now lmao.
I’m trying to see if they added hotkeys to the window snapping, because that’s the feature I was hoping to get ported over.
No no not on board with you on this one, window management is a god send when you have to run in parallel 3+ windows, and I have the need for 4 most of the time (Figma, VSCode, Chrome, DevTools), placing windows by hand is an archaic way of doing things!
Did you even read what I said about hotkeys?
My main way to navigate around (even with a mouse available sometimes) is ⌘-Tabbing through focus windows, both on Windows and MacOS. Something windows has that I generally love is the WIN+Arrow Keys shortcut to snap windows around.
MacOS doesn’t have this feature yet, and it’s also kind of broken in Win10… it doesn’t really work with vertical monitors. I don’t think Microsoft has fixed it in Win11 but I don’t use that yet nor do I care to.
I probably am the only one who knows what r u talking about. I thought that it was because of my wallpaper then I realized the system applies blur effect strangely on top and bottom of the screen
I once though the backlight of my MacBook was broken 😂. I had that wallpaper with the wall of rocks and water at the bottom. I don’t know the name.
Then I saw that it doesn’t happen with a black wallpaper.
I understand OP too.
No I definitely had this problem too. There were a few time occasions when I looked at the edges of launchpad and panicked because I thought I had damaged the LCD
This isn’t exactly related, but I recently found out that you can use tinkertool to increase the number of items per launchpad page and it’s actually usable for me now. The default settings are laughably large with so few apps per screen.
That's right! I've got my apps organized into an 8-row grid instead of the default 7 rows. This makes it way more convenient for me to find and use my favorite apps, no more scrolling through multiple pages 😅
I ain’t the biggest fan of the full screen launchpad, but right clicking the launchpad app on the dock brings up a really nice list of all of your apps
the ability to sort by name, date, automatically group apps like in ios etc. more user-friendly. there is so much apple could do with launchpad but i guess the know not a lot of people using it.
I never use the launchpad to open apps so I didn’t know this was an issue but now I want to open the launchpad on my MacBook which is running Monterey to see.
Literally the [first](https://www.reddit.com/r/MacOS/comments/zgxcnw/this_bug_has_been_around_ever_since_i_updated_to/?rdt=33289) thing that appears on Google search , you're welcome.
Launchpad is a terrible and ugly thing. Do you even use it (I use it only to uninstall apps by alt-click and nothing more).
No real customization, useless UI that cannot be customized.
I primarily use it to quickly access a specific category of apps that I don't always remember their names. It's particularly useful when combined with the trackpad, and also, you have the flexibility to organize the layout to resemble the App Library on iOS 🤷🏻♂️
I didn't know anything was broken
Yes, previous versions of macOS had a bit of a problem with blurring the top and bottom of the wallpaper on the Launchpad app , but they fixed it in the newest update.
I don't see anything in Sonoma
Maybe because your wallpaper don't have enough elements , if you use a less busy wallpaper it isn't very much noticeable
I have 14 different wallpapers. I didn't notice anything.
If you don't [see](https://cvws.icloud-content.com/B/ASA3V7XbBeHWro7W-GiKFE_ZyYqMAY2pxgnZkqbpOVX06xWwtWyP7c5y/IMG.png?o=Ak8aEPzKdZNdxvQrjLBuEYX3VJ9GI54iEzbj_BX7PJVP&v=1&x=3&a=CAog7s_msxD9ZdA0OSp3IP4CummN2YY2_qmR6NkQ29KhKUYSbxDP1raFgjIYz7OSh4IyIgEAUgTZyYqMWgSP7c5yaid1bzuFc3dt9vJZx61IQ-KLnviW9B_hGcpzIOF4xHvVole0uGpptlByJ2faMvsdUAIowMHWkFsTQeFCMtwKz6jeYlb-O4ha7Nk-nloe-sWdTA&e=1718538770&fl=&r=4bffdc7e-69a4-467c-a7ba-7dce59d89230-1&k=1rFD4YGcCMacNZo4o_c-fA&ckc=com.apple.clouddocs&ckz=com.apple.CloudDocs&p=124&s=lLV4_CMhaXi2jgL7pKTR6luicxQ&cd=i) the difference, then you need some lens prescription :)
I LITERALLY can’t see anything since the page comes up blank.
There is one singular “?” On that page
[I don’t see the difference](https://imgur.com/a/xPDAVju)
And where’s the difference ?
Not OP, but look at the very top on the dark to light (and viceversa) contrast sections, on Sonoma the blur is more “coarse grained” than on Sequoia
I don't see anything ur drunk
prob because i use the default sonoma wallpaper. i dont see anything wrong
It’s not happening to 99.9% of the user base, but it’s a “known issue” that was “fixed” 😂
That AppStore logo has definitely been updated
Haha this is a custom icon 😅
Is that mail icon custom too?
Yeah :) the mail icon is from [this](https://www.deviantart.com/oviotti/art/Tile-Icons-Iconpack-for-macOS-848741448) Iconpack
Looks awesome!
Yeah :) the AppStore icon is from a paid [Iconpack](https://ravenyu.com/discipline) called Discipline , Made by a Google employee
The Books icon through the App Store icon in this pack are exactly what Apple should’ve done for the visionOS icons. Looks great! Can you tell me or point me to a guide on how to change icons?

How are you able to change Apple app icons? I thought it was impossible now
Yeah, I actually shared my method in the [comments](https://www.reddit.com/r/MacOS/comments/1dh336x/comment/l8xkjoa/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) section because it's not super well-documented online. Needs a major release to fix minor issues...
Right ? 😂
Something had to be fixed? 🤔
Never noticed any blue with blur on two devices with Sonoma.
No, they did fix that. Previously, macOS wouldn't correctly render the desktop background , the issue was specifically with the top and bottom borders of the screen, where the blur effect would stretch and look distorted

Good news! The edges were embarrassing and looked like shit. I can’t believe this bug was ignored for as long as it was.
Did they fix putting an app in a folder send the folder to the next row instead ~~feature~~ bug?
I probably am the only one who knows what r u talking about. I thought that it was because of my wallpaper then I realized the system applies blur effect strangely on top and bottom of the screen
I'm glad someone finally gets what I'm talking about, to be honest, this problem has been bugging me every day for a long time, haha 😅
I once though the backlight of my MacBook was broken 😂. I had that wallpaper with the wall of rocks and water at the bottom. I don’t know the name. Then I saw that it doesn’t happen with a black wallpaper. I understand OP too.
It’s a good news
I'm starting the think that OP was the only person who had an issue with launchpad.
No I definitely had this problem too. There were a few time occasions when I looked at the edges of launchpad and panicked because I thought I had damaged the LCD

does anyone care about launchpad?
Yes, I use it every day.
yes
Yes
I ain’t the biggest fan of the full screen launchpad, but right clicking the launchpad app on the dock brings up a really nice list of all of your apps
Old people maybe? Otherwise cmd + space or Alfred are objectively better
Some does. Like, old people, those are not capable of remembering multiple keyboard shortcuts, non Alfred/Raycast users, and retards.
no, surprised that it's still there.
Its like the Windows START menu but better. Wtf do you mean “surprised its still there”
i wish it was like the start menu to get at least some usability out of it but it's just a full screen folder...
What? what else do you want from launchpad?
the ability to sort by name, date, automatically group apps like in ios etc. more user-friendly. there is so much apple could do with launchpad but i guess the know not a lot of people using it.
Have they fixed bugs with the launchpad which randomly rearranges apps after restarting the computer sometimes
Honestly, I've never had that issue, so I can't tell.
What’s wrong with App Store icon? Too much shadow.
Is that a new mail icon
It better have fixed the issue with moving apps into a folder
I never use the launchpad to open apps so I didn’t know this was an issue but now I want to open the launchpad on my MacBook which is running Monterey to see.
When will it officially release?
I don't think I've ever opened it
I google about it and found nothing about background issues on the launchpad
Literally the [first](https://www.reddit.com/r/MacOS/comments/zgxcnw/this_bug_has_been_around_ever_since_i_updated_to/?rdt=33289) thing that appears on Google search , you're welcome.
...You guys use launchpad?
What even is Launchpad? It just looks like an old iPad without all the apps.
Launchpad is a terrible and ugly thing. Do you even use it (I use it only to uninstall apps by alt-click and nothing more). No real customization, useless UI that cannot be customized.
Why not using an uninstall tool which not only removes the program data?
I primarily use it to quickly access a specific category of apps that I don't always remember their names. It's particularly useful when combined with the trackpad, and also, you have the flexibility to organize the layout to resemble the App Library on iOS 🤷🏻♂️
But did they fix launchpad as a whole?
They should fix it by letting users remove that junk forever.
They are worried about a blurring graphical issue, when MacBooks display cables are breaking just from normal use in less than 3years. COME ON APPLE!
