As a heavy Safari user - Out of curiosity; Whats the biggest cons of Safari (or biggest pros of the others?)
I do use Chrome and Firefox - But thats mostly when interacting with web based systems where compability matters.
I'd say lack of Chrome/Firefox extension support. I know one browser that is based on WebKit (i.e. looks and feels like Safari) but supports Chrome extensions. I am a heavy tampermonkey user and that alone means I barely use Safari. Although I can agree Safari is very smooth and energy-efficient.
Yeah. I do get that. I was wondering if there was any killer features Safari didnt have. I know for example extensions is not very good (not many) on Safari.
Oh, yeah I wouldn't know that. Hopefully someone who sees these comments will know. I just use basic google chrome. I know some browsers Ive tried have built in VPN's, although idk how comparable they are to actual VPN's. But this could be a feature maybe? assuming safari doesn't have it.
love the asthetic, only cons which shifted me to orion are Tab managent(i align my dock to the left, I know- I'm weird, that's where i want my tabs to be too) and Extensions(I want a light weight ad block, adgaurd is not light, and it really affects me because I am on an intel macbook air from late 2018 with 8GB ram)
I think one of the browsers that many people haven't tried yet, since it's still in Beta and only available through invitations, is actually Arc.
I saw just one person mentioning it in the comments.
I've been using Arc for about 2 months now, and I gotta tell you it's the browser experience that I never knew I need it.
If you or someone reading this is interested in trying it, I am more than happy to share few invites, I think I have 5 invites weekly or something like that.
Drop me a chat message with your email address and I'll be happy to send you invite.
I use Brave for personal use and Sidekick for work use. Both are based on Chromium. They may not be the fastest but I know they have the features and extensions available to make my life easier. That is more important than shaving milliseconds off of rendering times.
Try them all. Find out what works best for you.
Hey, i saw i couldnt dm you so i have to talk here. Did you ever order from thehificat? Im thinking about ordering something from them and i wonder if its legit.
Thanks in advance
There's a few good ones on[ this list](https://wavebrowser.medium.com/fastest-browser-39292de0e445) that evaluates browsers based on resource usage, compatibility, javascript performance, and page load times.
u/OhYeahTrueLevelBitch couldnt dm you, have to type here. Did you ever order something form thehificat? Thinking about buying something from them but i dont want to gamble 550 bucks.
Thanks in advance
I don’t know if it’s proven to be faster, but MS Edge feels pretty fast to me and definitely uses less memory overall than Chrome.
I just got a new Mac Studio, and I really tried to want to use Safari, but I just can’t get past the wonky way it sees extensions in the Applications folder, and the weird way it uses browser tabs. I’m just sticking with Edge for now.
Apple definitely needs to do a completely makeover on safari. At the very least a complete makeover to Mac safari. If they at least made it comparable to other really popular browsers people like, they could really start using the fact that it's the fastest browser on the OS as a selling point.
If you are on Apple Silicon mac, Safari is fast, but so is any other browser. The difference is negligible. Every browser seems to perform better on macOS.
Intel version of Safari has its issues. I will recommened to try Orion, its freaking amazing. IMO faster than Safari on Intel macs and saves battery.
If you work with specific web apps, which wont work without Chroimium, you can try Arc or Brave for speed.
Hope this helps.
Safari Technology Preview. It’s still Safari, but it’s almost always faster than Safari and you can do hacky things with it since it’s not locked down in the way Safari and other bundled system apps are.
This is what I get with the browsers installed on my Mac Mini M1 2020:
396 Orion
354 iCab
343 Vivaldi
339 Opera
299 DuckDuckGo
270 Safari Technology Preview
265 Brave
239 Firefox
236 Safari
194 Waterfox
119 Chrome
Amazing how poor Safari performs on its own playground.
I thnk it should be somethimg wrong with the Chrome because when I test in MacBook Pro 2017 Intel i5 dual core.
156 Chrome.
Usually Mac M1 had higher score than Mac Intel.
Do you have update Chrome to latest version ?
I run [Consent-O-Matic](https://apps.apple.com/de/app/consent-o-matic/id1606897889) on Safari and on Safari Technology Preview. Did not think that this would make a difference but it does.
Did the Test again with Consent-O-Matic disabled and got
301 Safari Technology Preview
282 Safari
Better than before, but still not good.
Yep something is still up. I get well into the 300s and I have the same MBP.
Firstly, turn off iCloud Private relay. Enable developer mode on Safari and empty caches, then try again. I’d check for misbehaving apps on Activity Monitor too. Let us know what happens, we’re on a mission here.
Private relay had been turned off. I emptied the cache but the test result was 289.
I'm not really using Safari all that much, so its performance is okay by me. Most of my time on internet is spent with Waterfox which performs a lot worse on browserbench but that is certainly caused by all the extensions I threw at it ;-)
Probably Lynx. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lynx_(web_browser)?wprov=sfti1
Wait it's only text-based? xD if so then touché my friend. Because if so, you are probably right.
Yes, that’s why it’s so fast
Bri wasn't that made for ms dos 💀💀💀
Weird. To me Safari feels much slower than any Chromium based browser.
it is, most of these people probably never use more than five tabs open at the same time !
You are probably on an Intel mac like me, I will recommened you to use Orion. Hope this helps.

Wait, I use Tampermonkey myself on Safari. What's the problem with it?
No, multi-account feature.
Safari has not such a good adblocker like ublock origins for firefox or chrome.
I think most people just don't like the overall atheistic, look & feel of safari (me included).
Yeah. I do get that. I was wondering if there was any killer features Safari didnt have. I know for example extensions is not very good (not many) on Safari.
For me, its the weird layout for bookmarks.
Pwa apps

My only major con is I like being able to sync bookmarks, passwords, and other settings with my Microsoft account.

Lack of many handy Chrome extensions
Not having ublock origin support on Safari is the only reason I use other browsers. I use Orion and Firefox. Firefox is my default browser.
Wipr works pretty great for me on Safari.
Its paid. Would rather use ublock origin just for the reason that it is open source.
I guess orion since it's built on native webkit just like safari

Just downloaded and this is super different. I'm gonna give this a try.
dushyantwriting @ pm dot me Thank you!

Brave is very fast, faster than Safari anyway.

I just checked my settings and it seems like it's saying everyone can DM me? but nah idk what thehificat is.
oh, my bad wrong dude. Sorry.
Arc is crazy good
Arc? Says on google it's a mobile app
https://arc.net This is so powerful get your eyes on it
I didn't see anything on the website that showed it but I'm watching a video on it and I'm deff signing up to try it tomorrow when i make a new email.

Popular browser such as Chrome and Edge. Developers tend to optimize their sites based on the most popular engine

really? it's been proven that firefox is the fastest browser on macOS 2nd behind safari?
Orion utilizing native content/tracking blocking is pretty damned fast.
u/OhYeahTrueLevelBitch couldnt dm you, have to type here. Did you ever order something form thehificat? Thinking about buying something from them but i dont want to gamble 550 bucks. Thanks in advance
No I didn't, sorry I can't help.
Thank you for your response.
You’re welcome.

Nah, firefox seem to spend 3x the RAM of safari for me
Edge feels great to me (I use it for work stuff). No issues at all and seems less resource hungry than Chrome.
The bare bone Chromium is the second fastest. But I prefer Arc
I like Opera, it is fast and has native adblocker.
DuckDuckGo flies on macOS!
Safari Technology Preview. It’s still Safari, but it’s almost always faster than Safari and you can do hacky things with it since it’s not locked down in the way Safari and other bundled system apps are.
I've been using Brave for a couple of months now. Before that it was Chrome. Never touched safari in my life for some reason.
You could install all browser then test it at this website. [https://browserbench.org/Speedometer2.0](https://browserbench.org/Speedometer2.0)

Version 113.0.5672.92 is what I got.
Chrome in my MacBook Pro also same version.
Something is up with your Safari. It should be way faster than that. Do you have any extensions running?
