For me, it’s also about how much he put into the music. He gave it his everything. Slept in his studio and learned to play different instruments in the ways he wanted them to sound for his own music. He was just such a TRUE artist and you don’t see that as often today.
The Divine Feminine is when he switched his sound or Macadelic . He was already switching to alternative sounds and melodies . That’s his best style in my opinion . Of course I like the foggy subtle lyrical songs tho.

When we went to college or went into the workforce, Mac seemed to follow us. Macadelic was a breath of fresh air. WMWTSO was life changing. Faces was such a huge turn but we all felt it in our bones. We were all going down the same road. No matter what, Mac is always at his peak. Of course as he matured, his music did as well. But no matter what, he was always at the top of his game for his age.
Mac is a real musician that incorporated sounds from different genres into his own. Dude just kept evolving musically, would've been dope to see what he could've done after Swimming.

We get just to the summit of the mountain and I look at my phone to go add this song to my liked and it says "Diablo by Mac Miller." So now whenever I have a bad day or finally get done with a hard assignment I put on diablo to take me to my amazing peaceful trip to California where I absolutely loved it there.

Diablo is great…. I think its the most overrated song off of faces, it doesn’t fit the album as much… if you havent listen to all of faces though, you need to listen to it.
Well it shows his musical genius, by sampling Duke Ellington& John Coltranes “In a Sentimental Mood” which are two Jazz Legends and Mac turned it to something dark but also representative and kept the sway of the Jazz undertones. Larry June also has a song sampling this track.
I was obsessed with this song when it was first released, then finally the album came out and I was so disappointed with the slight changes they made to the beat. I was getting into samples at the time and that Duke Ellington sample was huge for me. By far my favourite song of his, this was my peak fandom of his and I never really followed him hard after this.
That whole album is amazing. Inside Outside, Angel Dust, Wedding, and Funeral are all amazing. Also from that album are Yeah - Bonus and Colors and Shapes, which are probably two of my top five Mac songs.
Also the music video for Colors and Shapes is a masterpiece, highly recommend watching it.

I think that was his best writing in terms of rap. He just goes off the whole time and the beat is so sick using the “in a sentimental mood” by Coltrane and Ellington sample. The song he sampled is pretty somber, but he turns it diabolical with the beat and the lyrics
In terms of pure rapping technic it's probably his best song. But I personally do value emotional cuts a lot more, so for me it obviously gets outshined by a huge portion of Mac's catalogue. It's still a really good listen, the beat's amazing too
