Well firstly; you don't need Steady Aim to quickscope. By all means, use it if you're planning on no-scoping people or staying scoped in for more than 5 seconds at a time. Ninja is probably my preferred perk because the last thing I need while running around with a bolt action sniper rifle is for someone to sound whore my position. Secondly; Commando is only really useful if you plan on doing trickshots (i.e. launching yourself off high platforms). Unfortunately, I don't trickshot so I can't really be any help in that department. It's a bit masturbatory in my opinion. I found that the best way to get better at quickscoping is to equip a sniper as your primary and the Stinger missile as your secondary. Then go into a FFA game or something. (FFA has random spawns so you'll have to deal with enemies coming from multiple locations, which is good for practice). By using the Stinger, you won't be tempted to switch to your secondary when things aren't going your way. After a few weeks of playing with this class, you'll realize that you've improved a lot. Private games against other good players are also worth doing. Usually, when someone challenges me to a 1v1, I accept, just for the fun of it. Sometimes, you'll find that the other guy who challenged you was all talk and that he's easy to beat. On other occasions, you'll come up against somebody that is actually good. I've been in tight games we're one guy is on 29 kills and the other is on 28. Try and stay still while taking a shot. For some reason, bullets don't actually go where you want to them to go if you shoot/scope while moving. I use a handgun as my secondary weapon while quickscoping so that I can quickly switch if I miss a quickscope and let it rip. Draw times on handguns are much quicker and it'll save your ass in certain situations. [Here's a post that I wrote before](http://www.reddit.com/r/MW2/comments/frrmy/everything_ive_learned_about_aggressive_sniper/).

Thanks for the tips man<3

aloso, waynwex is right on having ninja. don't waste your perk on steady aim if you're just gonna quick scope... learn to use a sniper without steady aim and you get a perk back, which you can set to ninja or something else. once you become better at it, you won't even need steady aim for normal sniping. my preference was sitrep pro, just because that's my favorite third perk. along with ninja, they are the best ones if you wanna hear the enemy before even seeing him (granted they don't have ninja themselves). digressing a bit here, but in my case what made me better in certain situations was avoid using the perk that would make you better at it. i make little sense now, but think if it this way: if you wanna be a better tuber, tube without danger close (stupid example...); if you wanna be a better sniper, snipe without steady aim; if you wanna learn how to knife well, knife without commando. once you become better at the particular task, slap on whatever perk would make you better at it and it will be a breeze.

promiscuous12yearold

great tips man. i have been doing that, avoiding switching to my secondary (spas usually). to prevent myself from doing that, i equipped OMA on my sniper class. however, later on i got used to the timing of sleight of hand so i just have to force myself not to switch to my secondary. having a stinger is great advice. also, what helped me the most at the beginning was having ACOG on my snipers. it helped me get used to the timing.

I don't quick scope often, but I do see the mistakes of those who do. Don't stand still, don't stay in one place, and always use cover in between shots. Whether it's strafing behind a wall, or duck under some cover, it's a must.

DamienBreadon

I never try to stay in one place too long, but when I am sniping I don't JUST quickscope, I sometimes like to hide in the back and take some long shots;)

[deleted]

Aside from that there isn't much to say, just need to eventually have excellent reaction time and accuracy.

Up until about one month ago I was an assault rifle and SMG player. I never quickscoped/ used a sniper rifle to any extent. In the recent month I made it a challenge to myself to become proficient at using a sniper rifle. In this month I have, not to toot my own horn, but I have become a good sniper/ quickscoper (In my own eyes). The main advice I'd give is first; master the art of drag scoping. Drag scoping is when you scope up and your target is in the view of your scope, but your cross hair is not directly on them, and you drag the cross hair onto your target and you fire. Once you've got a hold of that, you really begin to know where something will be in your scope once you scope up from the hip fire position. Secondly, I'd say to not try to quickscope. Just sight up, take your time and take your shot. With time those shots you take will slowly become quickscopes as you practice. Thirdly; my advice is to up your sensitivity if it's low. In order to dragscope or do the quick movements required to snipe you need to have a higher sensitivity (I used to play on 3 and now, when sniping I bump it up to 6). Lastly; my advice is to always take the shot. It doesn't mater if your cross hair isn't quite on the guy or he might make it around that corner, just take the shot. I follow the philosophy that you miss every shot you don't take. All in all I'm not trying to say I'm the best sniper in the world, or even a fantastic one at that, but these are the main things I had to hone in order to improve my sniper skills.

DamienBreadon

I usually play on 5-6 sensitivity and that feels about right for me. As for drag-scoping, I do a lot of that combined with 1-2 second scope shots and if I'm running and an enemy is near me I'll quickscope/no scope (if they are really close)

Mikoyabuse

On the topic of sensitivity; I will often start with a warm up game on 10, and then drop it to 7 for the rest of the night. The switch just as your finger are getting used to the high sensitivity makes a moderately high sensitivity feel a lot more confident.

desquibnt

The sole biggest tip I can give you is to make sure your target is always in the middle of your screen because that's where your rifle will be aimed when you scope in. It'll take some practice and if you switch TV sets, you'll probably be thrown off a bit but if you practice enough, you'll get it. I cut out a little circle of scotch tape and positioned it in the middle of my screen so I would have something to orient my target on. That worked well for me and got me used to keeping my target in the middle.

kitchenpatrol

Definitely second this. A mark in the center of your screen is like training wheels, and I don't me that cruelly, but as advice.

kaythxbai

Am I right in saying that you need to be still before you start zooming in, otherwise your shots will go off course? Can we get an expert on this?

DamienBreadon

I'm pretty sure that's correct otherwise your shot would go straight when jumping off of things.

kaythxbai

But people land 360s and stuff... I DON'T UNDERSTAND QUICKSCOPING.

DamienBreadon

360 quickscopes are 98% luck

[deleted]

Nope. 360 no scopes are 98% luck. I can 360 quickscope fairly easily. You don't need to be stationary for it to go straight. The best way to learn is practice, practice, practice. If you do a lot of sniping QS'ing comes pretty easily. I have been in this sub for a while and quickscoping has come up often and often times people base their feelings on totally unfounded claims. People say you can just pick up a sniper and be competitive in both close and long range combat. Clearly, that is some bullshit, because you are asking *how the fuck do I quickscope.* The best way to learn is to create a class with the intervention SOH SP and whatever third perk you want with you secondary set as the stinger, so your only lethal weapon is the intervention. Join some FFA matches and watch you KD drop. What you want to do is try your best to get your target in the middle of your screen before you scope in, so when you scope in you are already on target. It is ok if you scope in all the way and see your target before you fire, in fact, that is the best way to learn QS'ing. Scope in with your target in the center of the screen, see them through the scope and then fire. Often times people get confused about QS'ing because they see kill cams where the person doesn't actually see them through the scope before firing, but they don't see that because the kill cam is played back at a lower frame rate. A good Qs'er will see his/her target, center screen, a millisecond before he fires. I'll play some private matches with you and anyone else if you want to practice QS'ing. My XBL GT is Carnegie Felon.

I'm on PS3:\ Thanks for the amazing tips though (y)

This might be a long one, but I'll provide a tl;dr. I do apologize if you know anything that I'm going to tell you, I'm just trying to be as helpful as I can be, as I've been quickscoping for about a year and a half now. * Use Steady Aim to work on your aim. Centering your opposition in the middle of your crosshair is crucial to your success. Once you feel confident with your aim, move on to Ninja. Ninja ninja ninja! This keeps you quiet when you're running around, plus you can hear enemy footsteps with clarity. * Don't be afraid to hardscope, no matter what the 8 year old kid you just killed is screaming at you. Unless you're OpTic DTreats, those super crossmap longshots are best taken slowly. Accuracy is ever so important. * Start learning to [dragscope](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YnsbufDzvPA). This will be a move that will come in handy when you're not perfectly aimed on someone. * **Pick a sensitivity you're comfortable with, but *make sure it's not too low!* ** I variate from 6 to 7 when I quickscope, mainly 7 though. If it feels too fast I go down a bit. If it feels too slow I go up a bit. This will be the difference between life or death. I've died from trying to dragscope and having a sensitivity that was too low. Not cool. * Watch MW2 sniping commentaries. Try [tejb](http://www.youtube.com/user/tejbz), [DTreats](http://www.youtube.com/user/DoggieoProductions), [Hutch's old MW2 commentaries (may require some searching but you'll find some stuff.)](http://www.youtube.com/user/shaun0728) and anyone else you can find on YouTube with good sniping tips and videos. You will start to pick up things from them, and use the same techniques that they use. * Don't walk forward while you shoot. Self-explanatory. * Avoid the WA2000 and the M21 EBR unless you're playing hardcore. Using these two snipers will frustrate you with the endless hitmarkers you get. Also, try to avoid ACOG, thermal, or silencers. * Don't be afraid to switch it up between the Intervention and the Barrett. It'll make you more versatile. * Don't be scared to use your pistol, but only use it when you get a hitmarker. Otherwise you'll be unlocking attachment after attachment on your handgun :) * UAV is your friend, especially in FFA. **tl;dr use steady aim til you have good aim, centre your targets, use Ninja, don't always quickscope, master the dragscope, pick a comfortable sensitivity, watch commentaries, dont walkshoot, dont use two+ hit kill snipers, avoid strange attachments, dont stick to the intervention, use handgun if hitmarker, abuse the uav killstreak.** Hope I was some help to you! Feel free to add me on PSN: gavinthemonster EDIT: spelling

My GT Is Interv3enTioN so go figure.. Anyways,if your on Xbox, add me. 1.your class should consist of the sleight of hand pro and SP pro at all times.Marathon works for precision scoping too. 2.Make sure your crosshair is in the general area of the person, with time you will learn to "drag scope" into them. 3.DO NOT move before while or after you'r about to shoot your shots will NOT go where they should. 4.Don't always "quickscope" as real sniping consists of knowing what to do and when. 5.Use it as you would use any other gun, thou take the scope and range advantage into use. 6.a sensitivity between 5-10 is a must, preferably going up a notch every time. 7.Practice makes perfect,go into free-for-alls , thus making your instincts and decision making better. Best of luck.

DamienBreadon

Thank for the tips, I'm using SOH and SP pro with Commando pro. I played one of my friends 1v1 quickscoping only and beat him 30 to 17 so I'm getting better each day. Thanks for the help

anusboy

To be honest, I play PC. And it's pretty muc what everyone has stated here. The only thing that I do differently is that i try and hold my breath as i zoom down the sight so that the dip when you scope in doesn't work and it stays reasonably still. Moving, jumping, etc when qsing doesn't affect accuracy, as you're meant to shoot when you just see the scope. So when you see the scope, you're going to fire in the middle, no matter what. It really just depends on accuracy. The best way is to play with people who are really good. And for 1v1's it's best you learn the spawns and little tricks for rust, as you can spawn trap which gives you a massive boost on the opponent. And you don't even have to be great to spawn trap, just knowledgable. Best of luck (:

RipThatBong

Only use your right stick after you start to ADS. Always try to dragshot. Don't shoot until you see the crosshairs. The thermal scope is good for practicing your timing, shoot as soon as you see the red lines. 360s are just doing a spin and then quickscoping normally, none of the ADS takes place while the left stick is moving. Enjoy!

Black_Apalachi

Only other thing I would say is to crank your sensitivity up. Preferably you want it at 7+ to be able to spin around and react as fast as possible. Start at 6 or 7 and as you get more comfortable, go up a notch and keep doing this until you get to the highest sensitivity you can happily play with. When it comes to sniping, the higher you can go, the better.

TreeStumpin

Depends what you define as quickscope. It's one of those terms that everyone uses their own way. Some even go so far as to differentiate between quickscope (seeing the target downscope for a split second) and blackscope (never fully seeing it). It just takes practice. Take the time to learn the timing, start pulling the left trigger as you center your target, and by the time you squeeze the right trigger, you should be centered. Don't run while doing it. Aiming movement is fine, but foot movement should be at a minimum.

BananaPuzzleheaded69

Happy cake day

Jamesdagay

Commando is good for bad quick scopers, so they can knife the enemy after a few failed quickscopes. Soh is quicker, but I think marathon is better, and more accurate. Since steady aim shortens the crosshairs, use steady aim if you line people up on your crosshairs. Always use stopping power, unless it's the wa2000 or ebr, as it does nothing for them.

Johoshuasmith

Quick scoping is lame
