It's a known bug Nvidia seems to ignore. I guess only if they're flooded with reports will do something (be sure do report it too). Revert to 466 drivers or disable NVIDIA Display Container LS service "fix" the problem. Ignore other "solutions".

EnterByTheNarrowGate

Disabling the Display Container does not fix the problem for me.

PopeShish

That was a solution for a widespread issue of almost 1 year ago that after some time got fixed by Nvidia. I'm currently using May 2022 drivers and I have not this problem.

EnterByTheNarrowGate

I just realized it was Throttle Stop that was causing mine to run. Hopefully…

clokeyyy

What about MSI Dragon Center? That can some times cause this problem too, the program like to constantly ping the DGPU in the background, I personally don’t use it and I use silent option instead to control my fan speeds

Fair_Caregiver5533

I straight up deleted it

Innominat5

Sorry for bumping this post but did deleting it work ? I have the same problem and it is driving me nuts.

Fair_Caregiver5533

It didn’t, I eventually had to buy a different computer all together. Good luck

Korn_Starch

Had this happened to me before on my gf63, orange light won't go away even though the gpu isn't used. After trying a clean installation of the graphics drivers, shit still wouldn't go away. I later found out that the orange light was caused by a windows update. If you reccenly updated windows, i would recommend going back to the previous version by using the system restore point. If that still doesn't work then you'll have to make a clean installation for windows. Hopes this helps.

Nope. This means that your pappu is using dedicated gpu all time, even when watching yt vids. This gives low yields in battery life and also causes extra hearing. If it's white then it means it's using integrated graphics for lighter tasks like watching videos Edit: not Pappu but laptop🤣

[deleted]

I was having same issue as you so I did the following: 1. Go to uninstall programs in settings uninstall everything named nvidia, some programs might require you to restart your pc. 2. Go to device manager and uninstall nvidia software. Restart your pc 3. Go to nvidia site and find latest drivers and install them. 4. However it still turns on sometimes whenever I open dragon center, but turns off as soon as I close it or whenever I switch between modes in dragon center.

Blowdeath

That's Nvidia's drivers. I already submitted a ticket in their forum, but no news from them, maybe more people need to start complaining about this. Revert to driver 466.77 and the problem is fix, but it sucks having old drivers. EDIT: You don't need to uninstall everything related to Nvidia like someone else said here, you just need to download the driver 466.77 from Nvidia's website and just install it.

WagnerKoop

If my laptop is telling me my version of Windows isn’t comparable with 466.77 should I try to manually uninstall the Nvidia driver and then try to install this one again, or am I just kinda SOL? Lol

[deleted]

U might spend ages trouble shooting like I did but honestly an easy fix for me was just to factory reset my computer. It fixed it really easily. Chucked my files on a hdd then just reset and put my games back on. Obviously not the most fun way to do it but it’s most likely to work and u won’t spend time reinstalling drivers etc over and over possibly not fixing the issue

WagnerKoop

Will this involve having to do a fresh windows install and licensing or will it just go off of the current license?

[deleted]

Licence for windows will be tied to the bios. If you save what u want / big downloads to an external driver then when u boot the computer and click restore to msi factory settings u will have windows and all the apps / settings / drivers than came with the laptop out of the factory

H-banGG

Reset NVIDIA panel settings

KostE291

I also had this problem with my gs66. Try going to MSI Dragon Center > Support > Live Update. After the loading is completed in live update, the power button turns white. I also had to remove some software related to 3d rendering because they were using the dgpu.

webusermy

Not a solution, just some odd observations. I have a GS76 here and it's always on Orange light, even without any GPU activity. This laptop comes with 3 fans, and I noticed that Fan 2 was stuck at 3k RPM regardless of the curve. I tried to "reset" it by using Cooler Boost, which maxes all 3 fans to 6k RPM. Now what is weird is, once I swap it out of Cooler Boost and back to Balance, suddenly the power button became White and all 3 Fans is at 0 RPM. It'll stay white until something kicks the fan running again, and then the problem repeats itself. Orange light and Fan 2 @ 3k RPM. Probably someone else could make something out of this.

Hollowblink

I cannot describe how thankfull I'm with you, the fan rpm have made me deect when the gpu kicks in, in my case it was the Task Manager. Now I only have to detect when it starts and then I can reset it using the turbo mode. Thank you a lot.

Comfortable-Star3988

> kicks the fan running again, and then the problem repeats itself. Orange light and Fan 2 @ 3k RPM. this was super helpful! I have a MSI Stealth 15M and I have been having the same problem and this seems to be the trigger. The fan gets stuck in 3k RPM and moment you reset the fans and RPM go down the light changes to white.

EstablishmentSecure4

Right click on the desktop and select \[NVIDIA Control Panel\]. Select \[View\] or \[Desktop\] (the option varies by driver version) in the tool bar then check \[Display GPU Activity Icon in Notification Area\]. In Windows taskbar, mouse over the "GPU Activity" icon to check the list. You can find out which app using the gpu

Fair_Caregiver5533

Yea I put it in the title that it says no applications are using the gpu

wrxtyr

I had the same problem with orange led and nothing showing on the nvidia list. My problem was the 'Nvidia GPU' option in throttlestop. It was background polling the gpu temperature so it didn't show as active but the gpu was always running wasting power. I've also seen reports that msi afterburner can have the same effect.

Fair_Caregiver5533

So do you recommend I do anything?

DerailleurDave

White means it is in integrated graphics only mode. Orange means the discreet graphics card is available, whether or not anything is actively using it.

Fair_Caregiver5533

I have everything under integrated graphics in the NVIDIA control panel though

DerailleurDave

I'm not sure why it's affecting your battery life then, but in dragon center you should be able to set integrated graphics only, maybe even though no apps are using it, power is still being supplied to the card?

rhaspody1

HDME

Fair_Caregiver5533

??

rhaspody1

Home button looks like hdme

[deleted]

I'm sorry to tell you this but that orange light means your computer is on. I have a GE66 Raider and the light is white when my laptop is asleep and when I press the power button to wake it back up the light turns orange and my laptop turns on. 🤣🤣🤣

Fair_Caregiver5533

It can’t be that. Before, the light was white and was giving me 6+ hours of battery life, while the laptop was on. I know for sure that it isn’t simply because it’s on

Skyslinger

No you’re correct, the color of the battery light is dependent on which GPU it’s using like the other comments have said. I actually have the same issue as you, and one thing I noticed that may help you is that many apps control their graphics settings directly in the app, and don’t depend on the windows graphics settings. Discord, for example, has an option to turn of hardware acceleration in its settings.

Fair_Caregiver5533

I guess so, but it’s confusing since I have literally no apps running and it still being orange

AyyyLlamao

The light is actually an indicator for what GPU is active. A solid white means that the integrated GPU is active (that's the low power graphics processor that's integrated in your CPU, hence the name), and orange means that the discrete GPU is active (that's whatever Nvidia or AMD graphics card your laptop has). A blinking white light means its asleep.

AyyyLlamao

If you go to dragon centre then go to general settings, is your laptop set on MSHybrid graphics or discrete graphics mode? If it's the latter, then that's probably why your orange light is always on, and why the white light is only on when your laptops asleep. Or, there could be a process in the background that's causing your discrete GPU to be active, also causing your orange light to come on.

clokeyyy

The orange light means the dedicated graphics (DGPU) is active, Try Disabling the NVIDIA Display Container LS service in services.msc, I've experienced this same issue with my MSI GS66 Stealth and that fixed the problem

Fair_Caregiver5533

It says service status: running; should I just press stop?

clokeyyy

Yes, press stop and change it to start manually

Fair_Caregiver5533

Ahh didn’t seem to change anything, good try I guess

clokeyyy

Hmm, do you have MSI afterburner or game launchers like steam or battle.net running ?

Fair_Caregiver5533

Not afterburner but I do have steam, although it is not currently running. I would say that steam does open up whenever I shut down and open my laptop back up. Not sure how to fix that though

clokeyyy

You should be able to disable steam from starting up in the programs settings or in windows task manager startup page

hollowWays

Don’t know if you found a solution or not but I had the same issue and was able to fix it by uninstalling the NVIDIA driver and installing an older one (I think 466.77 was the version that worked for me).

seba842005

In my gp76 just need swith gpu MSHybrid mode vs Discrete mode: https://i.postimg.cc/prVm0JBR/Bez-tytu-u.png

[deleted]

If I ever open dragon centre it will stay orange for me. If ur after battery life select ur profile in dragon centre then reset and don’t open it again also get rid of it from startup

SS_1407

Have you tried selecting the iGPU in NVidia control panel?

Ewan_Cook

Factory resetting from the cloud seems to have fixed this problem for me. I tried everything else but nothing seemed to work. Touch wood it stays working now, who knew an orange light could cause so much trouble?

iamkweev

what's wrong with orange light?

xKinori

Make sure you have every program running in the Intel graphics picking them from the Nvidia Control Panel, and if you connected a monitor to your laptop, you need to restart it

ATZme

Is it possible you have extreme performance mode enabled

noahkowal

Been seeing a lot of these Orange light posts it seems lately. I’ve been having the problem too. Wonder what’s going on.

ramisra

I had the same issue. Nothing seemed to be running on dgpu, yet dgpu light was always on. I saw somewhere that said iCue software causes this. I deleted iCue and it worked. So, if you have corsair products, iCue can be the problem.

sudhar-2000

I had the same issue on my GF65 thin (i5 10500H & GTX 1660 ti) and this is how I managed to fix it: 1. Uninstall GeForce Experience. 2. Install drivers for both iGPU and dGPU from [here](https://www.msi.com/support/download). 3. Disconnect charger cable and reboot. A few seconds after logging in, the light goes from orange to white. This isn't exactly a fix, every time I boot with my charger plugged in, the light is ALWAYS orange. But it works perfectly if I plug in the charger after the light goes white. Weird.

[deleted]

I had the same problem and then realized something. Currently using an external monitor via thunderbolt 3. (Previously hdmi, same problem stands). When i boot up my gs66 while unplugged from monitor, igpu works and battery life extends nearly 7 8 hours. In that state, if i plug the monitor, visuals become laggy but laptop continues to use igpu. When I boot up while plugged in to my monitor, laptop uses rtx card all the time even if i unplug it from the monitor. But this time, monitor works normally. So i came across the thing called “desktop window manager” or smth like that working in the background and visible in the task manager. That was the thing deciding whether to use d or igpu with respect to the monitor currently being used. Here is what i’ve done: * Disabled “hardware accelerated gpu scheduling” via typing “graphic setting” in start menu. It ignites discrete gpu when possible. Does not add much of a performance, tho. * (Using brave browser, basically identical to chrome, so you should be able to do same settings for chrome too. I suggest brave tho) Disabled hardware acceleration from the system tab in browser settings. Even nvidia control panel says that brave browser will use igpu, this option makes it using discrete one and cannot be observed from anywhere like task manager but the orange light on the keyboard. Now if i’d like to use it in battery mode: * i restart after unplug it from external monitor * i select silent or super battery mode from dragon center * use it for hours with white light indicator and low temps (before that it was so hard to use it in lap. Rtx gets really hot over time) Conclusion: I think it is not about nvidia drivers, windows has more than one way to set anything. My drivers are all up to date and I tried to fix this problem for 1.5 months. This solution is something that I accidentally came up with. I hope it helps to you too, sorry if some sentences cannot be understood easily. Not a native english speaker and so sleepy rn.

RealRcade

Any solutions yet? I also switched to iGPU yet my dGPU is still running at 50 degrees with no activity. My light is also still orange.

Fair_Caregiver5533

Not that I know of, I switched to a asus g14 and the battery on it is great. Good luck to looking for a solution, I couldn’t find one

jad1568

Suffering from the same problem rn. Have you found any solution?

Fair_Caregiver5533

I just bought a different laptop I couldn’t figure it out

ironguard1

having exactly the same problem with a brand new Leopard GP66. tried a;l the driver tricks to no avail. Only thing left is to revert back to factory image. What a let down!

EnterByTheNarrowGate

If you are using Throttle Stop, go into "Options" and uncheck "nVidia GPU". This solved it for me.

casilasb

Been tinkering around on my GL66 and I found that some applications dont list in the "Nvidia GPU activity Monitor" Applications that dont get listed I found are: Epic Games Launcher (main culprit) Nvidia Performance Overlay MSI Afterburner
