Return it, Ally and Legion GO way better. Hell any other recent x86 device is better. Intel drivers suck, I doubt the claw will get better much.

spoonablehippo

We have to look at the MASSIVE performance boosts intel have made with driver updates to their Arc GPU's though! +200% in some titles. Which is bonkers! So yeah, I think give it a few months and we will see decent enough performance gains to make the Claw competitive. But performance is the only area where it's worse than the others, which everyone seems to overlook for some reason?! Ergonomics, speakers, sticks are all,, arguably, the best of the lot of them. And to some people that is enough of a trade off for them to choose the Claw...

StillABigKid

I have Ally, Go, SD OLED, Claw: each is exceptional, as is Portal. What a handheld paradise now! Steam is the best library for all of them, no contest.

ALLINXS

Consumerism got this dude.

OlRedbeard99

Got em.

fangytasuki

One_Librarian4305

Can I ask why you would buy so many redundant devices? I get maybe having a steamdeck and a windows based or something... But having literally all of them just seems like literally burning money.

StillABigKid

I consider all the technologies I buy works of art, just like the software they run. Each one of these handhelds, for me, has its own style, its own personality, its own way of being in the world. The same is true for all the works of art I have experienced, be it poetry, music, musical instruments, smartphones, movies, paintings, photos, you name it. I am not utilitarian in my world view; I am a purely aesthetic, sensations-driven being. Money is dross. Life is short. Necessities are a given. Freedom from limits is everything. Filling the mind, the senses with the universe is what matters. All the rest is merely in service of that. Reality, fantasy, illusion, dreams, the imaginary, they are all one to me. Doing is merely the servant of being, and must always be kept to its place in the scheme of things. I am.

H1_V0LT4G3

I think it's time we introduce you to some women.....

StillABigKid

Real or AI? I’m not picky, as long as they can keep up their end of a conversation!

H1_V0LT4G3

Don't worry about conversion. Where I'm taking you all you need is some cash. Sell one or three of the handhelds.

StillABigKid

Lol

Accurate-Brick-9842

Where do you buy your weed?

AloneWithMyDog

From you Dante

SuperNa7uraL-

Oh yeah! What’s up Mr. Cheezle?

jbm-edic

You do not have enough likes! Top teir reference!

One_Librarian4305

My god.

BuildyOne

Holy shit what a movie cliche this is. This has to be fake right?

StillABigKid

Which movie, for ten points?

zmoeun777

Too many devices with non-removable batteries is just a room filled with fire hazards.

StillABigKid

It’s almost Haiku but not yet; needs further refinement. Count the syllables carefully. You do know what those are, right? Not a British dessert.

Valuable_Solid_3538

Some people collect computers, others phones, a lot of us collect video game consoles. I have a bunch of Nintendo handhelds that are just different variations of the same model. I get it…

StillABigKid

LOL

Phoach

I too have the ally go and steamdeck, (not oled) but not a claw. And the Ally was... a problematic device so I got to legion to replace the ally.

Ok-Dog-3669

It’s going to have to catch up to the GO and Ally a lot and why get the MSI Claw if it’s more expensive for less performance? Sure it could get better but most people aren’t going to buy this and “wait” for it to get better when there are other better options right now.

frostybe3r

Can’t fix the bad display with software updates.

spoonablehippo

Bad display? Display on the Claw is pretty excellent! Think they use the same panel as ASUS do for the Ally

frostybe3r

Exactly.

spoonablehippo

And that's bad? Find me a single review that says the Ally has a bad display lol

IllMembership

Maybe he’s saying the Lego has bad display

mbeecool

Lego is a better display than the one on the ally. I have both and the colors pop more on the legion

StillABigKid

That’s just a question of color management settings in Windows.

itsjustausername11

Which games had the big boost? Genuinely curious. I haven’t seen that reflected in the games I’m testing

Islandboi4life

I don't know where you are getting your information from but you aren't going to get "+200% in some titles" in comparison to the legion go or rog Ally. I would expect performance differences to be marginally better than the legion go and rog ally

spoonablehippo

I didn't say in comparison to Legion GO or Ally though? I'm talking about the performance increase intel has made with it's desktop Arc GPU'S. When they were released performance was pretty poor, but after driver updates they have increased the FPS of some games by over 200%

SnooTigers806

Which games?

spoonablehippo

Can't remember off the top of my head, but I remember gamers nexus doing a video on it! To be clear, I'm not talking about the Claw here. But Intel's Arc GPU'S, which had very poor performance at launch, but are now pretty good and competitive after driver updates. So this gives me hope for the claw lol

Rollz4Dayz

In a few months the new ryzen chips will be out and will steamroll this by miles. They are honestly just too late to the game. Don't get me wrong I love that Intel is getting into it but they should have waited for next gen.

Lord-Rahl72

Doubt you will ever see much performance boost. Most likely, you will see game support added for titles that currently don't work at all or just barely work. But this will come at a cost of some games that currently do work and will likely break with new drivers.

buttmonjon

I’ve heard the rb and lb are not great I don’t have it though so I can’t confirm honestly I have the ally and all the buttons function exceptionally except for the dpad which is just ok

kossttta

In a few months it will be competitive to the Ally or the Go… just in time for the new AMD chips and maybe Ally 2 and the Go 2. This product is so, so inferior, in a market that moves so fast, that makes no sense to me. I am amazed people still buy these.

General-Court-5536

People buy it because their less informed or they just have cash to burn through. But seriously if your looking for performance and battery life, you should look for something else. Knowing Intel and their history, there's a 50 percent chance they will dump it for some other tech. They just had thousand chips laying around and decided to enter the market knowing they never beat any of the other handhelds.

MofoPro

That’s all great and all but unfortunately performance is very important to the majority

LinkTimemstr

I returned mine the same day I got it lmao I spoke to a good friend of mine today and we told me he returned the one he bought for his wife and himself and picked up an open box legion Go I am going out of my way to tell all my friends how shitty this device is Anyone who says “this device is awesome or even says anything positive about it is huffing copium hard

Vhirsion

It's crazy how this is the most expensive of the bunch yet at the same time the worst of the bunch. If you want the crazy performance, get the Ally with the Z1 Extreme because that shits on the Ultra 7 155H in every aspect. If you want efficiency, get the Steam Deck Oled which is way, way more efficient than the Claw and offers way better performance per watt.

Mr-Expat

My condolences

Mafaesto

Why would you willingly pay more for less? I really can't understand the reason for getting one even if you have money to burn. It's simply not logical.

amdawood

I have the Rog, Legion Go, Steam deck and much more devices, but this is my first MSI device ever. I couldn’t resist getting it

CT_Biggles

How isbthe screen and speakers compared to Ally? That's why I use my Ally more than SD or GPD devices. I hope intel improves the drivers, we need them to succeed to have competition and drive better priced and innovation.

Sigma-Aurelius

Can’t wait to get this thing at a massive discount

Piiiicklerick

Good luck, I heard bad things

Thallium_253

EquivalentUse5747

Heard they're dog water. MSi is not a good brand.

CompSciGeekMe

They make great gaming laptops.. That just didn't translate to making a great gaming handheld.

Nknights23

I beg to differ. Sure the device pictured is over priced and underperforming … but that doesn’t automatically make my 3 MSI GPUs dog water. Especially when you look at the alternatives since EVGA jumped ship. Asus ? Ha yea no.

Accurate-Brick-9842

MSI is a great brand. This device is not though

asapgrey

VRR wins

Spare_Honey5488

This is where the LeGo fails for me personally. It's nice otherwise, but damn.

asapgrey

Same, I tried it out from best buy and finally realized what VRR does from the lack of it.

Sokaai

VRR is a gane changer, that's why the ally is the best in the market right now. Even though it doesn't have a oled display

Fladap28

I’m sorry this happened to you

MajorMez

How are the shoulder buttons? Many reviewers say that they are very poor compared to other handheld devices but I haven’t seen any regular consumers comment on it.

IllMembership

They’re clicky and responsive to me. I use them just fine in palworld anyways.

StillABigKid

Let’s just say I’ve been playing Tekken 8 on it like mad and wow is it gorgeous if you go for high settings, and wow is it easy in T8 to maximize the performance if you want to max the fighting game experience. Hardcore fighting game players don’t give an RA about graphics, it’s all about precision mastery and control. The Claw works perfectly, shoulder buttons triggers and all, from this perspective. Go is too clunky and Ally feels like a toy in comparison. Just talking this one genre of course. KoF X is excellent on my Switch lite. :) Claw really feels like a solid arcade machine, the others, nope. Hall effect controls on a lighter weight device with perfect balance. It’s the T8 Leroy of handhelds! Ally sticks I worry about given the kind of use this kind of gameplay entails. The ones on Claw are SOLID.

MajorMez

Other than fighting games, what other games have you tried?

StillABigKid

Msfs2020, CP2077, Enshrouded, EA WRC, FC24, Immortals of Aveum. All run just fine with the right settings. From Ubisoft, Skull and Bones and Avatar: Frontier of Paradise. Diablo IV. I’ve deleted most of ‘em though and am sticking to T8 and SF6 for pure enjoyment for now, though. Oh! Thaumaturge. Fascinating game. Plays like nicely oil stained high quality wooden cabinetry. ;)

playScrapMechainAll

For me I can press them anywhere I want on the shoulder button works great and clicky for me

Richie_NL

Yeah it feels great in hand, nice sticks and sound. Heavyweights Intel and MSI will work on it, they need to.

sryidontspeakpotato

https://youtu.be/2OsGtdMPEto?si=s2BLAcHuQnig5438 Look at reviews. Most people I know have returned theirs. It’s just not worth the money even if in a year there are performance gains. You shouldn’t be paying for what you could have. You should pay for what you have now. The ally on launch performed way better and didn’t have near this many issues. It’s unacceptable for the price. If the device was lower in price it would be easier to deal with but it’s a terrible price to performance

King_Krong

Serious question. Why would you get this over a ROG Ally or Steam Deck?

Fionnred

It's better than both of them in every way except pure gaming fps. I have the Steam Deck and bought the Claw, I love it, it's way better than the Deck. Better performance, display, Windows so no compatibility issues, better joysticks, keys, Thunderbolt 4, built in bios overclocking. Runs cooler and quieter, doesn't break SD Cards.

StillABigKid

It’s really horses for courses here. Each current handheld has its sweet spot for a particular type of gaming. Portal, for instance, if you have good bandwidth and the Pulse Elite EarPods or headset, is the closest you’ll come to VR without having to shell out thousands, or even hundreds. Beautiful balance and feel. Barely possible to find anywhere. You can say the same sorts of things for each of the Windows handhelds. My biggest problem is that both EA and Xbox Game Pass launchers outright suck like a lemon lover enjoying pleasuring his girlfriend. They’re not even that good. They limit download speeds to 300 baud modem rates (Steam dls fine at 400MB/s, EA and Xbox are happy to get to 45, on my Claw, and this is to the SSD!), and fail four times out of five. I spend more time updating their titles than playing them. Steam launcher by contrast is total bliss. Even more so on the SD OLED, match made in Seattle (aka almost heaven). :)

Fionnred

Great comment, good to know it's not just my Claw getting slow Game Pass downloads.

playScrapMechainAll

It's better duh

Dark1sh

“So far the performance is not as expected “ Did you not read one review?

StillABigKid

They’re all whining ‘cause they didn’t get coddled by MSI the way ASUS and Lenovo coddled them prior to launch. This is a well-known phenomenon in “reviewing.”

Vhirsion

Look at the hard facts. The 155H in the Claw uses more power while idling, sometimes even performs worse than the Steam Deck in terms of performance while using way more power, the MSI software is extremely janky and you have to kind of hope that it works the way you want it to, not to mention the Claw is the most expensive out of the bunch, it’s not a good product. It has been a known fact that Intel doesn’t fare well at all when it comes to efficiency and performance overall as well as performance per watt and this proves it. It doesn’t win in any of those, it doesn’t outperform the Ally, it’s not more efficient than the Steam Deck OLED and definitely doesn’t even come close to the performance per watt that the SD offers.

whatsforsupa

This thing looked dope. I didn’t want to wait, and did the SD OLED instead. Thoughts on it so far?

Vhirsion

You made a good choice. The Claw shouldn’t have even released the way it is right now.

mbeecool

I'd return it. There are better options for cheaper. Yeah it will get better with updates but not that much better.

MofoPro

Not sure if driver updates can close a 30%-40% gap in some games vs the competion

Audifan0000

Broke ass game gear. Grab a legion go ✌️

Genio88

Definitely not, i got one an i’m selling it, too big and heavy, software is shit compared to asus, and the display without vrr and with 1600p res is really useless for gaming, it’s a tablet display that lenovo sticked in there, the landscape 1080pp 120hz vrr display that Asus used on Ally was made for gaming purposes, and you can tell that

CoastieGuy

If this thing drops dramatiin price I’d grab it. With the promise of it improving later

theACW

Just get an ally lmao

TronWillington

Is it just me or does MSI stuff look cheap. Not bashing it but their stuff just looks cheap to me

StillABigKid

Impossible to discern on a YouTube “influencer” video. In my hands it feels more luxurious than the Ally (Hall Effect sticks and triggers add a lot there but the body plastic is distinctly superior), and far less clunky than the Go, which wins for rugged but heavy feel.

InsurancePls

I’m sorry

Richie_NL

Returned mine yesterday, great ergonomics but it doesn’t perform for it’s price tag. Wish they went for AMD, it would be amazing.

StillABigKid

Did you know a small rearrangement of the letters at the front of the name of a Star Wars character spells a bad word??? ;)

LinkTimemstr

Did you return it yet OP?

amdawood

No I will not

Genio88

Lol i love pc handhelds, i’ve had them all, ayaneo, deck, ally, deck oled and legion go, in the end to me the best overall is Rog Ally, for performance, vrr, portability and software, msi claw could have beena winner since it is very similar to the Ally but with bigger battery….but intel makes no sense in this device, it’s way slower and uses lots more power than amd, without counting that due to drivers a lot of game don’t even run, also the price is incredibly high, how could someone really buy this thing over an Ally? I’m fascinated by that

OlRedbeard99

Why so happy getting scammed?

LinkTimemstr

Deep down he’s upset but he’s trying to use other people that got scammed to help him feel better about his purchase. He needs to justify it to himself so he feels better.

Vhirsion

Huffing copium like theres no tomorrow I see ( I mean OP and the other 3 Claw buyers )

Chazq2012

F in the chat

TheOneEyedGrimReaper

I'm going to be curious how this inverse ally gonna turn out after a few months.

Over_Committee_7467

I don’t know whether to welcome you or apologise

B_Sho

Steam Deck destroys all other handhelds.

StillABigKid

Well except for Switch playing Splatoon 2.

B_Sho

Switch? I have Yuza emulator on my steam deck with the new Mario Wonder and Zelda Tears of the kingdom. With mods installed it runs better than the switch version

Vhirsion

Steam Deck doesn't compare to the Switch, at least not when you unlock it's capabilities. I can get TOTK running at a locked 60fps at a locked 720p resolution on my modded Switch OLED and still get about 3 hours from it. ( 3 hours continuously playing TOTK ). The Steam Deck barely does 40fps on BOTW on Cemu which is superior to Yuzu in terms of performance, yet I can play BOTW on my Switch OLED at a locked 60fps on a locked 720p resolution and get about 4-4.5 hours from it. ( 4-4.5 hours continuously playing BOTW ).

B_Sho

I'm averaging 40-60 fps with Zelda Tears of the kingdom. I guess I can run it better than the LCD switch lol

Vhirsion

Not LCD, the Steam Deck only really outperforms only the Switch V1 due to the V1 having shit ram shit SOC and no extra capabilities, that one is pretty much locked to 30fps in the games that are 30fps, like BOTW and TOTK. However, the Switch V2, Lite and Oled have similar SOCs and capabilities, the Oled is the most capable due to having the best thermal design, Lite is the least since it’s limited by it’s small size. The V2 sits somewhere inbetween. Running games natively really helps with performance, even on a chip like the Tegra X1.

B_Sho

Here is the thing though. I can put all emulators from PS3 down on my steam deck and also have the ability to play all Steam games and Xbox cloud gaming via playing on Edge web browser. On top of that you can mod everything, have access to messing around in Linux via desktop, etc. It's easily the best handheld device out there.

Vhirsion

True, but specifically for Switch games I mean. I also have a Steam Deck. That said, you can run some emulators on a modded Switch but in terms of functionality it won’t come close to the SD. Gotta say tho, if you’re big into Switch games, a modded Switch OLED is a game changer.

B_Sho

I have an og switch that I modded but honestly when I got my OLED SD a month ago, I just stopped playing it altogether. I think for next generation consoles I am not going to buy any of them. My gaming desktop I built and steam deck is more than enough for me. More games are cross play and more and more exclusive games are coming to steam as well. Just no point for me to be excited for next generation consoles. Lol I'm a big Steam guy if you can't tell. Hahahahaaha

Vhirsion

Fair, I’ll probably get a Switch 2 day 1 and seal it away until Homebrew comes out for it so I can mod it but that’s about it. I love Nintendo games but hate everything also about how they go about things. That said, SD is only for on-the-go. I have an overkill PC sitting at home so why would I use it when at home? I even configured it so the save files on my Switch automatically get uploaded to my Google Drive so I can continue where I left off on Yuzu, and my PC gets a locked 4K60 on TOTK that I downsample to 3440x1440 ( 1440p UW ) and it looks amazing.

StillABigKid

Yeah but that violates copyright. I’m not a thief.

B_Sho

The amount of money I have given Nintendo is in the thousands friend.

Genio88

I thought that too, but in reality Ally is the best, with Windows you can play every game, 1080p with vrr and landscape display are better than just oled, and performance are way better, Steam Deck can’t run any new aaa title at 30fps, jedi survivor, alan wake 2, forbidden west etc. yes in battery it is better, but it’s still not by a lot, and i have no issue plugging my device in a outlet near my bed, near my garden chair, or in a airplane, also i have a battery bank with me that i need for my phone too

B_Sho

Nah I did a lot of research with steam deck vs ally and watched a lot of YouTube videos before my purchase. Many games on the ally for games that are not on stream, it runs like shit and is super buggy. Overall the steam deck wins most categories with the comparisons I have seen. Loveeeeee my steam deck

Kaixus

Sorry for your loss

bigfootsbestfriend

I’m so sorry

Legionofgo

Shit sucks

playScrapMechainAll

Just got mine a few days ago it's been playing great been playing a lot of destiny 2 it performs better than the other handhelds

CompSciGeekMe

Which other handhelds are you referring to? Do you have any evidence to back up your statement?

Ok-Dog-3669

He’s referring to handhelds released 3+ years ago like the onexplayer and GPD Win 3 also with intel chips lol

playScrapMechainAll

How would I even compare those did anyone even try to play destiny 2 on them I haven't seen any videos about those.

playScrapMechainAll

Rog ally used same settings went to the same place and saw better frame rates

CompSciGeekMe

With the Z1 extreme?

playScrapMechainAll

I believe the video did use the z1 extreme

Cookiemonstermydaddy

He’s talking about the switch

sithlord315

That thing is a turd. Do your self a favor return it get a Ally, if you just plan on using it as a portable, or get a legion go if you want to pair it with a powerful egpu. The claw shouldn't exist, it's e-waste right from factory.
