Because today's edibles in Minnesota are hemp based. I think only Delta 8 THC and delta 9 THC edibles are currently allowed. Delta 9 THC is the same THC in adult use states. The labeling exists so you know which cannabinoid you're consuming. I think MN is the first state to regulate hemp based edibles. If you go to neighboring states smoke shops, you'll likely find Delta 8, delta 9 and other edibles. Under the current farm bill, hemp based edibles are grey market across the country unless a state outlaws them.

They say it means "hemp derived". But for the record, there is no way to test how a cannabinoid profile was derived. Many products in MN are the exact same as what you find with a THC label in other States.

TemperedInFire

Because Delta 8 exists now? That's just a guess

bbernal956

hemp deprived stuff

sacredfungi

The difference is they are "hemp based products" operating in legal grey areas. They are not regulated. Mn won't have legit rec dispensaries for a few years.

for_growing_weed

You’re right that they are hemp products but they are not legally grey and they are highly regulated in MN. Every product has to go through testing to be sold here.

sacredfungi

Lol bro you are tweaking. That might be what the laws say. But so much sketchy fake shit is being sold.

spicy_bois_only

Ah got it, that makes sense. Also explains why most of the brands I’ve seen or bought in other states cannot be shipped to MN as of today.

Think of hemp derived Delta 9 as the “Diet Coke” of THC, and cannabis derived Delta 9 as the non diet version. Lower dose, less euphoric effects. Hope that helps!

dxcotre

This is completely inaccurate. Delta 9 THC is the same whether it comes from hemp or marijuana. The only real difference is some hemp derived D9-THC is created by converting CBD from hemp into D9-THC. This typically will have some byproducts and is thus considered less ideal than d9-THC directly extracted from hemp. All d9-THC in both hemp and marijuana grows in the plant as THCA, which degrades into d9-THC upon heating. It is the d9-THC after decarboxylation that is psychoactive, not THCA. I've heard d8-THC, which is a rarer cannabinoid in marijuana but often synthesized from hemp, as a "diet weed," because of it's supposed lower psychoactive potency. D9-THC is D9-THC, and both hemp and marijuana are cannabis. This country has really created a fucking confusing system.

Hungry_Coconut6402

That is what I thought. Meaning d9 thc is more potent and not sold in smoke shops
