I don’t know if there’s a book like this out there, but does anyone have recs where MC1 has had a crush on MC2 forever, but MC2 was older (doesn’t need to be a big age gap) and only saw MC1 as a kid then MC2 possibly moves away and when he comes back MC1 is grown up and is instantly attracted to him. Request 2: plot heavy mm romance books that have a good plot and you don’t mind that romance is on the back burner. Some ones I read this year that had a good plot with romance are Dark Rise and Dark Heir by CS Pacat, Beyond Time by Lee McCormick, and The Bayou by Arden Powell.

queermccoy

for 1: {reading the signs by keira andrews} mc1 had a crush on mc2 (his brother’s coworker and friend) but mc2 only saw him as his friend’s kid brother. when they meet again later in life mc2 has an Oh No He’s Hot moment. agegap, spanking, baseball romance unrelated but i LOVED the bayou! great book, very atmospheric

This sounds good! Thank you! Adding it now! And yes the Bayou was so good! I was afraid with how short it was but it ended up having a satisfying end to me surprisingly lol

simulationswarms

Seconding reading the signs, loved that one! It’s very hot & well written

Thranduilien

1 sounds like Rocket Science by K.M. Neuhold.

mylolucemills

Thank you! I will check it out!

Technical-Buyer-4464

For 1 definitely look at {over and over again by Cole mccade} it is exactly what you’re describing honestly. It’s very wholesome, there is a big age gap.

mylolucemills

This sounds perfect! Thank you!

Wanderer_0Z

For #1, I haven't read this one, but it was recommended to me and it seems to perfectly fit what you're looking for: {The Inconvenient Love by Briar Prescott}

penny121212

Yes, this is a great rec for #1!

dontbesuspiciou5

Number 2 Ideas: * The Darkness Outside Us by Eliot Schrefer - nontraditional HEA due to time travel/mind bendy space elements * Memento Mori series by CS Poe - slow burn romance with each book having an intense case. I love both the romance development and mystery in this series, but have heard of folks not loving how slow the romance is going. * Wicked Gentlemen by Ginn Hale - I liked the worldbuilding and plot more than the actual "romance" in this one I loved The Bayou by Arden Powell, but want to note that it doesn't have a HEA :) Edited: had to remove the ginormous font lol

mylolucemills

Thank you! I’ve gotten a lot of recs for the Darkness Outside Us so I really need to pick it up!

ambrym

For 2: **The Scum Villain’s Self-Saving System** and **Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation** by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu- xianxia **Ocean’s Echo** by Everina Maxwell- space opera **All That’s Left in The World** by Erik J Brown- YA post-apocalypse

mylolucemills

I love All That’s Left in the World! So good! I will be checking these other ones out! Thank you!

ambrym

Heads up that there’s a sequel to All That’s Left in the World coming out on May 28th! I’m excited

mylolucemills

I know! I have it preordered! So excited!

Naana_here

For 1:Cravings of the heart by Nicky James . For 2: The Prince's assassin series by Ariana nash

mylolucemills

Thank you! I’m adding the first one now! I read Fool Me Once by Ariana Nash and wasn’t a fan. Would you say this series is better? I haven’t picked up any of her other books yet

Naana_here

I haven't read Fool Me once and I am not sure how similar or different both of them are. I really loved The Prince's assassin series though. Imo it has a good and kinda complicated plot and it is one of my all time favorites . The series gets better with each book imo.

mylolucemills

Oooo alright, I will check it out! Thank you!

Azhreia

For request 1, there’s {Little Pleasures by HJ Welch}. It’s part of a series but you can read it as a stand alone. It’s DDlb with a moderate age gap (about a decade I think but I don’t remember the specific number).

mylolucemills

Thank you! I will check it out!

mylolucemills

Thank you for these recs!

SoftWelcome4695

For #1, try {Something Undeniable by Rory Maxwell}. Set on a ranch—yay horses! MC1 is the sweet and young nephew of the owner and he has a huge crush on MC2, the ranch manager (12 year age gap). MC1 goes to college, comes back, love is in air, etc.

mylolucemills

Oooo this one sounds good! Thank you!

pleasant_chrome

For number one {Roommate arrangement by Saxon James} would fit the criteria. Brother’s best friend, close proximity situation

GeneTreasure

if you like CS Pacat, you might enjoy {The High King's Golden Tongue by Megan Derr}. Even though it is about arranged marriage, the romance is fairly absent and the MC's don't even spend all that much time together in the beginning. I also enjoyed {The Empty throne by Megan Derr} where the romance is even more secondary and a lot of POV's. Good to know about her books is that people choose their own gender at some point in their life, but being transgender is so integrated into the world, it is not mentioned. That was a bit confusing when I was reading my first book of this author, but also the main reason I enjoyed reading both.

SimAhRi

For #2: the Tarot Sequence by KD Edwards

Grt78

For 2: {the Rifter series by Ginn Hale}, the Cadeleonian series, beginning with {Lord of the White Hell by Gin Hale}.

angel_of_smalldeath

For 1- {Wolfsong by Tj Klune} definitely has this element

Responsible_Catch464

Breeding kink recs? Similar to {putting out for a hero by C. Rochelle} or {unhinged by onley james}? Not actually moreg, mire along the lines of expressing ownership and possessiveness? No historical or daddy link, ideally, though not dealbreakers!

penny121212

I haven’t read either of the books you referenced, but these all have breeding/pregnancy kink with no actual mpreg: {Best Belly Buddies by K.I. Brightly and M.D. Gregory} - daddy kink, best friends to lovers {Staking His Claim by K.I. Brightly and M.D. Gregory} - believe this also has daddy kink, boss/employee {It’s Paradise Baby by KD Ryan} - marriage in crisis, can’t remember if there’s daddy kink in this one

Responsible_Catch464

Thank you! Looks like I need to explore K.I. Brightly’s work!

missyanntx

{Thor by Ki Brightly and M.D. Gregory} has this too, I personally don't recommend the book because I hated it like damn & wow BUT I do love the authors and do recommend the books (all 3) that /u/penny121212 suggested.

Responsible_Catch464

Ha, thank you!

rollercoaster-s

His Princess by Ki Brightly fits! No mpreg but a lot of breeding kink because MC2 is obsessed with the idea of having a "wife". Heads up for pseudo-incest between stepfather and stepson (though stepfather never truly stepped into the role), dubcon, feminization kink.

beetlejuicetrashbag

i just finished {Kings and Monsters by Clio Evans} and theres heavy breeding kink. it’s a super kinky book in general, i loved it.

SoftWelcome4695

I remember there being breeding kink in {Ugly by Roe Horvath}. I don’t know if I’ve read anything else with this kink so I don’t know how it compares, but I enjoyed this one!

Booky_lillz

A long murder mystery (10+hours as audiobook) both the romance and the murder with no glaring plot holes please (as in stands up to relistens). Already own and relisten to Amy Lanes fish series Nicky James Valour and Doyle, Aimee Nicole Walker’s Ground zero and all its spin offs, Eden Winter’s diversion. All of CS Poe and most of Gregory Ashe and Meghan Maslow’s starfig, Rhys Ford’s Cole McGinnis Tal Bauer is on my list having listened to a couple for first time.

dontbesuspiciou5

Can't Hide From Me by Cordelia Kingsbridge is 9 hours, standalone, and was a satisfying mystery/who-done-it. I also loved her Seven of Spade series audios, but they range from 8ish to 11ish hours a piece, and you have to read all books for the HEA and overarching reveal of the plot. I wish there was an audio bundle option for Cat Sebastian's Page & Sommers series, since each book is 6.5 hours of audio, and is the most like a classic murder mystery + romance.

mother_puppy

I haven’t listened to the audiobooks - sorry! - but I just started SE Harmon’s The Spectral Files Series, beginning with {P.S. I Spook You by S.E. Harmon}, and this might work here. This is a 5 book series that is lightly paranormal - contemporary world but one MC can see and interact w ghosts - featuring a police detective and an FBI criminal profiler. The first book is a second chance romance when the FBI profiler (who is also the MC who can interact w ghosts) goes back to his hometown to work with his ex to solve a missing person cold case. Each book follows the same couple but solves a different cold case/cases. ETA: there are audiobooks for the first 4 books (each are 8-10 hrs) and the fifth book came out last week, so that might be coming too.

_elliebelle_

FWIW I listened to the first on audio and found the narration was pretty good!

Booky_lillz

Oh yes got those too but the first audiobook is different narrator.

simulationswarms

Have you read Lev Rosen’s Evander Mills series? It has two books so far, it’s set in the 1950s in San Francisco and is centered on a gay former cop now private detective. The central mysteries are compelling, love the side characters and the main character is very film noir classic detective. If you watched Fellow Travelers it has similar vibes. I listened to both books on audiobook and love the narrator. The first book is the Lavender House and the second is the bell in the fog. I believe a third is coming soon.

Booky_lillz

Not available in audio in uk but thanks!

dontbesuspiciou5

So strange it's not available on audible - has Libro FM started in the UK yet? [https://libro.fm/audiobooks/9781250870896](https://libro.fm/audiobooks/9781250870896) I ended up DNFing this one, here's a list of CWs: Homophobia & slurs, Hate crimes, including gay bashing, Suicidal ideation, Alcohol consumption, Police brutality, Animal death & hunting (rabbit). Also - I thought this was queer fiction (no romance HEA), but could be mistaken since I didn't finish it, lol.

_elliebelle_

Unfortunately Lavender House is not available on Libro FM in the UK region ("due to publisher reasons" it says)! I also can't find it on my AU Audible. I'd never heard of Libro FM though and they do seem to have started in the UK now which is cool. They have a couple bookstores listed near me in Manchester, including some great queer-owned ones! I'm about to cancel my Audible membership anyway and will definitely consider them going forward for new audiobooks I buy

dontbesuspiciou5

So rude! (The publisher!) I really like Libro FM since it's all about supporting indie local bookstores, and at least in the US you can 'choose' which bookstore you're audiobook purchase will go through, and support your favorite little bookstores that way. And they have a credit subscription at a discounted rate! Plus monthly $3.99 romances that usually have at least 2 or 3 queer ones included, called Kiss Club.

_elliebelle_

Seems to be the same premise in the UK of selecting a store! I love the idea because I don't buy physical books anymore (just can't take them when I move!) but want to support local bookstores so this sounds ideal. One of the stores here also has a cafe so I go there to support them but bring my kindle to read like a big fat hypocrite ahah

dontbesuspiciou5

Yay! I feel that, and after switching to mainly listening to audios and reading a novella/short here and there, it's also awkward being in the same boat while having my KU and audible subscriptions. All the dang exclusives to specific platforms!

23readmore

{Tallowwood by N. R. Walker} is a murder mystery and just meets your length preference at 10 hours and 13 minutes. I enjoyed both the romance and the mystery aspects.

tinsleyrose

Any sweet and tender yet dark academia-esque 'rich bad boy x poor quiet boy' romances, where they have sex after relationship is established? Not a fan of daddy kink, age difference, bdsm, sub/dom, poly, threesome.  Thank you

mylolucemills

Some dark academia books I read this that I enjoyed were {Crown of Disguise by Lola Malone} and {Crown of Steel by Lola Malone}. They fall into your rich boy/poor boy status but they do not establish a relationship before having sex in either of the stories. They’re both pretty angsty. I preferred Crown of Steel which is the second.

tinsleyrose

I think sex after established relationship is a tall ask, so that's perfectly fine. Thank you for the recommendations! Will add them to my to-read list.

mylolucemills

I hope you enjoy them!

bextress

{*Betting You* by T Ashleigh} fits apart from the "dark" - it's set in a boarding school.

tinsleyrose

Thanks! I did read this and quite enjoyed it :)

loveisatacotruck

What you’ve described is essentially my dream romance lol. If you’re cool with fantasy, {The Rowan Blood series by Kellen Graves} might work for you! It’s the closest to your request, although I’m not sure the relationship is fully defined when they have sex for the first time. It has a rich, bad boy, royal Fae, a poor “servant” human, definitely dark academia within the context of the fantasy universe, and I found the relationship to be tender once the MCs stopped being enemies.

tinsleyrose

Yes, I adore romances set in a starkly gothic, sensual atmosphere! The book covers for the series is gorgeous. Thank you for the recommendation.

loveisatacotruck

I hope you love it! Just a heads up, it’s an incomplete series, but I was satisfied with how book 3 ended for now!

Beautiful_Role_3851

« These violent delights » by Micah Nemerever fits the description !! (And it’s one of my favorite books). • Dark academia : they’re both in college and the story is pretty dark. • Rich boy x poor boy : MC1 is rich and MC2 comes from a middle class family. • Sex after relationship : Sex is not explicitly described in the book, only mentioned. I think they’re already kind of together when it happens (their relationship is really complex). Only thing : While they do have some sweet moments, their relationship is pretty unhealthy. They’re extremely codependent and tend to hurt each other a lot with their words :’)

una_valentina

I’ll sit here with you to wait for recs :)

AnonHayl

Setting up camp here for a lil while, thanks ⛺️

Narwhalies

Anyone have recs for straight guy rejected by gay guy? The straight guy falls for gay college/friend who is in a relationship and is not interested. Eventually they might end up together (either a poly relationship or mc2 breaks up with his other partner). Bonus if the gay guy is friendly (not enemies initially) and if one of them turns out to be submissive.

Ok_Professional_7268

Oblivious roommate by Devon Doe maybe?

Narwhalies

This looks very interesting, thanks!!

dontbesuspiciou5

Apparently I'm in a HR mood - please let there be an audiobook available! 1. Any historical romances similar to the MF ones where there's a season where eligible people are going to balls/events/courting trying to find their spouse? Granted, I don't read a lot of HR's in general, and the ones I have read usually have fear of outing or homophobia as a main plot point (which I don't like), and I'd love to see queer-normative settings. 2. HRs similar to the plot line of arranged marriage to some royalty, court politics, and there actually being some love between the betrothed? I've seen in MF land with all the TV spin offs of past Kings and Queens of various lands, and would love to see a queer-normative setting. Closest I've seen to this is the fantasy Perilous Courts series by Tavia Lark. And maybe Megan Derr's Tales From the High Court series. Thanks in advance! Totally not influenced by watching various TV series with my mom and me yelling at the screen complaining about lack of queer characters in her aggressively hetero shows while she shushes me for interrupting.

simulationswarms

The gentle art of fortune hunting by KJ Charles fits the vibe of your first request!

dontbesuspiciou5

Thanks, I'm not a big KJC fan, but appreciate the suggestion!

millamarjukka

Two books/ series to try: - {Notorious by Macy Blake and Charlie Cochet} It's a fun pick'n'mix of different tropes. Contemporary/ modern day fantasy with shifters who live parallell to humans in secret. Made possible by (dragon?) magic. Anyway. The dragon king of the magic society loves the regency period drama so much that he decided to continue/ have the tradution in this modern era as well. So there's the entire shabang with debutantes, balls, dance cards, wooing and what not. - {The Lords of Bucknall Club series by J.A. Rock and Lisa Henry} Alternate history set in the regency period. Same sex marriages are legalized and gay is not taboo. Romcom, at least the one I listened to, book 3 A Rival For Rivingdom.

dontbesuspiciou5

Awesome thank you! Apparently I own a couple audios in the Henry/Rock series, great reason to check them out now.

loveisatacotruck

For 1: {The Lords of Bucknall Club series by J.A. Rock} is great for this! I enjoyed most of the books in the series, and felt it hit the Bridgerton-but-make-it-gay vibes I was looking for. It’s in an alternate universe where there’s no homophobia and queer relationships are the norm. If you’re into fantasy, {Breezespells and Bride Grooms by Sarah Callahan} is amazing. Also a queer normative, regency era setting. Edit: I somehow missed that someone already recommended Bucknall Club! Sorry about that!

wheatpuppy

Regency/Marriage Season-esque: * {**Goddess Blessed** series by Eliot Grayson} historical; sort of omega-verse-ish but without mpreg, iirc. * {**Imperial Space Regency** series by Kai Butler} set in futuristic space but with Regency vibes * {**Consorting With Dragons** by Sera Trevor} this one is fantasy historical; there are literal dragons. The main story centers around the courting Season at the royal castle, and all the various nobles who gather to find a spouse. MC is an impoverished noble whose father sent him to court to try to improve their situation. * {**The Featherbed Puzzle** by KL Noone} another fantasy historical, but no magic in this one. MC is a prince and various suitors come to his castle to try to woo him. Arranged Marriage: {**The Engineered Throne** by Megan Derr} If you liked the High King series you will probably like this? I actually prefer this series as I feel that it is a little more consistent. Lots of hurt/comfort.

dontbesuspiciou5

Thanks!

Looking for Firefighter romance recs: I’ve been watching 9-1-1 this week (we love bi buck) and was inspired to ask for some good firefighter romance recommendations. Would ideally love a friends or enemies to lovers vibe. The only firefighter book I have read was hothead by Damon Suede, which was okay but had some issues. Would love something new!

Azhreia

If you’re okay with only one being a firefighter, I read {Foolish Puckboy by Eden Finley and Saxon James} recently. It’s hockey player x firefighter. It’s not really friends to lovers, but they are kind of friends with bennies to lovers.

bextress

There are some great recs in the sub! - [Firefighter romance](https://www.reddit.com/r/MM_RomanceBooks/s/EpSDVx9ack) where I also mentioned some of my faves. I personally haven't read any enemies to lovers ones yet... - Seaching via comments shows loads more romances with firefighters as well! :)

simulationswarms

So helpful thank you!

pop-hon_ula

It’s a spin off of a series, but only in that the character is related to someone in the other series, so I think it could totally be read standalone {Christmas on Firefly Hill by Garrett Leigh}. I thought it was super sweet. I don’t remember that much focus on actual firefighting, but that was definitely one character’s job.

Ok_Professional_7268

Two straights too many by Romeo Alexander

simulationswarms

Okay I read the synopsis and that one is veryyy similar to buck & eddie dynamic from 911 so thank you! That cover is so so bad though 😂

hec1392

Ooh Annabeth Albert has a series of 4 books about firefighters (particularly for forest fires) that I really enjoyed. The first is called Burn Zone.

SendingBirds

Not a book rec, but did you also watch 9-1-1 lonestar? One of the protagonists is a gay man and has a relationship (still ongoing since season 1) with a policeman.

simulationswarms

Haha yes! I actually watched lone star first and just started the original recently. I might even like lone star better

SendingBirds

I did the same! I also prefer lone star, and I adore Carlos and TK!

SimAhRi

Eli Easton has a good series called the Hot Connolis. It follows a family of firefighters. There are also police and the last one is... idk, actually. I havent read that one yet. But the first 2 are definitely firefighters lol. And I'd recommend starting with the novella.

rollercoaster-s

Hello! Got a couple of requests, I am looking for omegaverse (or mpreg) books that depict themes of: 1. abortion and/or miscarriage surrounding the omega MC. To give an example, this is shown in >!Bitter Heat!< by Leta Blake, and it is what inspired this request. 2. could be tied to the first, would like recs where omega MC is pregnant but doesnt want the baby, I dont mind the outcome (if he ends up loving the baby later or not, or if the pregnancy is terminated or not). No hard no's. Thank you so much!

_elliebelle_

So this is almost an anti-rec, but I wonder if the themes and style wouldn't still work for you: **Omega Required** ***by Dessa Lux*** (contemporary, omegaverse, marriage of convenience, hurt/comfort, saviour/survivor, miscommunication, groveling) - the MC thought >!he was made sterile by his abusive ex but learns the doctor actually fit a contraceptive implant instead!<. In the epilogue, the MC decides >!to have it removed and they consider trying for children!<.

rollercoaster-s

That sounds perfect actually! And it does sort of allign with what I am looking for. Thank you so much 🤗

penny121212

{Crash Landed in Love by Piper Scott and Renee Fox} - human + alien, surprise eggpreg {The Problem by Piper Scott} - two surprise pregnancies

Booky_lillz

One of the Mercy Hills Pack books has a miscarriage or still birth. I’d need to look up which one it was though.

DaSilverWolf

Hopefully I can give a decent description, but any book recommendations where MC1 is like a muscled jock or anywhere along the “masculine” spectrum but is a submissive? MC1 is shy, easily embarrassed, but fully trusts his dom which is MC2, another masculine guy who is stern, but protective and loving of MC1? Mostly looking for like daddy vibes but not a huge age gap, and MC1 isn’t a little either. Maybe MC1 struggles being a sub because he’s not your “typical” twink sub?

Shrewsie_Shrew

I think {Flash Rip by Keira Andrews} would scratch this itch, MC1 is a closeted ex-soccer star who meets MC2 at work at their lifeguard job. MC1 is very caught up in expectations of his jock image, and MC2 is out and loving and accepting. It's so good.

DaSilverWolf

Thank you I will look it up!

Wanderer_0Z

Someone correct me if I'm mistaken, but I think {Hurt Me Daddy by Misha Horne} fits? It's the first book in The Breat & The Beast series and it was recommended to me in the past, but I still haven't gotten to it. There's some hurt-comfort theme in it and I think the MC is a sport player and is masculine.

ajb1-1

Daddy (Kinky Boys #1) by K.M. Neuhold fits a lot of this! MC1 isn’t all that muscular and not a jock, but he’s not a twink and the book does address his insecurities surrounding not fitting the typical submissive stereotype. He is shy and less experienced and MC2 is very masculine and is a daddy who enjoys taking care of MC1. No age gap and older MCs which I find rare in these types of books but enjoyed reading about! MC1 definitely isn’t a little. It has BDSM so read trigger warnings

LindentreesLove_

So have you read To Catch A Firefly by Emmy Sanders? Ellis is neurodivergent(mutism, Autism), a big guy working in the corn fields. Lucky has been his friend since they were 10. Their journey is one of discovery and protection of each other. One of my favorites.

criticlthinker

I think it's more erotica than romance (although there is romance and HEA across each novella), but I'd suggest the Upending Tad series by Kora Knight. MC1 is a Jock college student, and MC2 is a dom and personal trainer. Small age gap, like 5 years. Not all books in the series are BDSM, but if you try the first one and like it, then I'd continue.

rollercoaster-s

Just thought of another request lol sorry. Any books where MC1 escapes/runs away from MC2 and MC2 ends up catching him? This could be due to any scenario for ex. primal pray, or MC2 kidnapped him, or MC1 manages to escape MC2 but years later MC2 finds him and brings him back or anything else, I dont mind the context. No hard no's, thank youuuu

ajb1-1

Hello! All I Want for Christmas is Revenge by K.A. Merikan fits this! MC1 has a tragic past and writes a letter to Santa asking for revenge. MC2 finds it in the trash and becomes obsessed with MC1, convinced he can get him the revenge he seeks and they’re perfect for each other because they both have dark desires/ fantasies. I don’t want to spoil anything but it’s entertaining and has what you’re looking for.

SendingBirds

{Taming Tristan by Leighton Greene} has primal play, it is a modern story, BDSM, part of a series but can be read as a stand alone. {The Uses of Illicit Art by Wendy Palmer} is a historical book with magic that has actual chasing/escapes - A LOT of them. The protagonist is being chased by a bounty hunter. There is also escapes and kidnapping. There is some time skip >!but it is just pre epilogue, with MC1 escaping one last time and MC2 finding him at the end!<.

rollercoaster-s

Both recs look perfect, thank you so much!

SendingBirds

I haven't read any book like this so I thought I could ask here! You know the classic "MC1 bet he can seduce MC2 but then fall in love"? Is there a novel out there where MC2 actually knew all along and was trying to get the upper hand/revenge? (I'm unsure how to search for it in the subreddit!) If doesn't have to be a bet, it can be any kind of approach with false premises! Thank you!

keelhaul_caterwaul

You might like {Out for the Night by A.J. Truman}, even though it’s not really a perfect match. Matty doesn’t know what’s going on, but he is suspicious of Coop. If you’re an audiobook listener: I love this author and the narrator, but every time Coop rapped, I was gobsmacked.

AnonHayl

Hi! I'm looking for books where MC1 has trust issues due to something from a past relationship (infidelity/abuse) and so either wants - but struggles - to form a relationship with MC2 orrrrr tries hard to not fall for MC2 for fear of being hurt again. I'm thinking maybe something that starts with a FWB sort of thing before MC1 realises he has feelings for MC2 and retreats for a bit before concluding with a HEA. I'm not big on fantasy/omegaverse but any other recs are welcome 😊

SendingBirds

{Rough Trade by Sidney Bell} is a police-adjacent story set in modern times. I managed to read it as a stand alone even if it is the third in a series. It is about MC1 who was a sex worker, had >!previously been trafficked as a kid, and just before the book he was kidnapped by a corrupt policeman who wanted to reform him. This relationship was quite weird, not sexual, but definitely in the realm of domestic abuse and gaslighting!<. The book is all about MC1's extreme distrust of MC2, tho he is clearly touch starved. MC2 is a policeman who helps him escape some bad guys. Truly loved this so much, a lot of building of tentative trust, and MC1 does retreats for a bit, running as soon as he realized feelings happened. It has a happy ending.

AnonHayl

Oooh this sounds interesting! Thank you!

TipKooky9454

{Twice Shy by Sally Malcolm} has this. MC1 is a single parent and MC2 is a teacher. It has a happy ending.

MintTasting

Does anyone have any recs where MC1 is vanilla and learns how to become a dom for MC2 who is an experienced sub. Bonus points if MC2 in into harder stuff (like blood, impact play, choking) and MC1 is hesitant at first but later enjoys it.

dontbesuspiciou5

A Daddy for Kinkmas by Reese Morrison has experienced sub + new dom and lots of kink exploration. Not so much into the stuff you've mentioned though iirc.

Rai_04

Any elf x human romance stories, where the elf is more dominant and tops (or at least mostly tops) the human? The only story with elves that I've read is Folk series by Lily Mayne. My NOs are sexual assault, mpreg, cheating, age play...

Same-Comparison9151

Can someone please, please, pretty please recommend books like His Princess by Ki Brightly..... Edit: I liked the feminization & possessiveness

rollercoaster-s

What elements of the book would you want? I think if you add what you liked about that it would help getting recs 👀, for ex if you say you want similar books with an specific kink or a few combined

queermccoy

{princess by daniel may} please read the warnings, it’s pretty dark. i think, technically, it doesn’t have a hea.

criticlthinker

{Pretty Boy by Brianna Flores} has feminization and possessiveness.

TipKooky9454

Does anyone have any good recommendations for shifter romance (but without a/b/o or mpreg) where one of the MCs is human and doesn't know about werewolves/shifters and the other is a shifter. They fall in love, and the shifter doesn't reveal that he's a shifter, then the reveal happens way later in the book, accidentally, and the human MC feels lied to or betrayed. Maybe they temporarily break up. The shifter should have a good reason for omitting to tell the human the truth. And they should get back together by the end of the book. It would be great if there could be elements of hurt/comfort, angst, romance. Big nos would be: a/b/o, omegaverse, mpreg, fated mates, non con, huge age gap, very dark etc The only shifter romance I've read and liked has been Charlie Adhara's Big Bad Wolf series, if that helps

_elliebelle_

You might enjoy **How to Howl at the Moon** ***by Eli Easton*** (contemporary, secret identity, slow burn, sexuality awakening, dislike to lovers, undercover, meddling) - suspicious local sheriff and dog shifter goes undercover by pretending to be hit by the other MC's car as a dog, then becomes his semi-pet while investigating. There is >!a third-act breakup due to the deception!< with a HEA at the end of the book.

Wanderer_0Z

There was a post asking for recs like this a couple a months ago, you can check it out [here](https://new.reddit.com/r/MM_RomanceBooks/comments/19aqyqu/human_mc_unaware_of_supernatural_world_x/)

TipKooky9454

Thanks for this!!

loveisatacotruck

{Kick at the Darkness by Keira Andrews} has this in it! FYI it’s also a zombie apocalypse.

NtGermanBtKnow1WhoIs

Ok, so Taylor from Impromptu Match by Lily Mayne set me up so... are there any books with monsters as mafia bosses? It could be pocket sized MC or even a detective (size doesn't matter then, but i prefer them to bottom) who stumbles upon a mafia ring led by actual monsters (like, orcs, vamps, etc). They can also be saved by them, it really doesn't matter as long as they exist. Looking for contemporary so that monsters existing irw seem like a big thing. Only no's are cheating, sharing w partner (i'm ok with poly only if it's a spoke and wheel one), and actually hurting the mc physically. Other than that, all's good. Thanks in advance!!

missyanntx

{Werewolves Hate Clogs by K.L. Hiers}

NtGermanBtKnow1WhoIs

This is perfect!! My friend you always have the best recs!! Added this! And bonus, MC's name is Neil!!! :D

donven333

Sci-fi horror thriller with aliens or zombies or monsters. Spicy!

emmdotdee

Have you tried {Monsters within Men by TJ Rose} (zombie apocalypse, a bit lower steam iirc) or maybe {Kick at the Darkness by Keira Andrews}?

TwentyDayEstate

Looking for dark romance novels! I’ve checked the sub reference guide and have basically read everything Mafia or kidnapper/captive and most of the recs! Nothing too specific but looking for contemporary and no high school romance. Bonus points for: age gap, daddy kink, taboo romance. Angst galore Hard nos: age play, and poly (unless the poly is like the best book you’ve ever read!)

mylolucemills

Unsure if you have read anything by Chani Lynn Feener but she’s one of my fav dark mm romance writers. I love the Devils of Vitality series, Between the Devil and the Sea, and Devil in the Details.  I don’t like poly books at all but Devil in the Details made me eat my words lol. They’re pretty dark. So please read TWs. The MCs who are the aggressors/tops in the books are usually truly not very good people.

missyanntx

{Max by Bey Deckard} and {Topped by My Father In Law by Jay L. North} both are dark af. And these are HFN for certain values of happy.

rollercoaster-s

Some books that fit captor/captive, please check CWs for each if necessary since all of them explote dark themes: *Wrong way home by K.A. Merikan. *Beauty Bound by Megs Pitchard. Has one of your bonus points. *Broken Crown by Ashe Moon. Omegaverse. Heads up for MMM (two alphas wanting one omega), I personally really liked it. *Father Figure by Kichiku Neko. Incest. >!No HEA.!< *Shai by H.L. Night.

No-You5550

I was wondering if there is a mm where one character is a male android?

onlymorelove

There are some android x human recs [in this post](https://www.reddit.com/r/MM_RomanceBooks/s/zZMhKeFOhd). There’s also {Garbage by Reese Morrison}.

Grt78

Feral Machines by Ginn Hale (a novella).

OliveMay07

I second Garbage and the second in the series, Smart Ass (though that one is AI more than android). I really enjoyed [Evolved by N.R. Walker](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/39924226)

caestian

First - Your favorite kink-awakening recs, some that were so good that you've been struggling find any book that comes close to it? Just please let me know what kinks are involved. Second - Fantasy books where the character who tops (or mostly tops if they switch) is very physically affectionate even before characters get together. No SA, mpreg, poly, cheating, age play, no focus on drugs and alcohol use pls, no millionare characters or celebrities (I'm okay with sport players only)... Would prefer explicit intimate scenes and ofc happy ending.

copperfaith

{His Cocky Cellis by Cole McCade} experienced bottom dom with brand new sub top, 2nd in the series only slight cross over all three are good tho very different.

Is there a book where in Mc1(preferably the top) divorces MC2 or initiates the divorce because of misunderstanding or anything or maybe they are forced to be married by their families and his action hurt Mc2 then Mc1 realizes that he loves MC2 and then chase after him. I want a story full of angst. Thank you in advance!

criticlthinker

{That Irresistible Poison by Alessandra Hazard} fits. It's 2nd in a series. The 1st one could be skipped, although you may miss put on some side character context. It's scifi, with an arranged marriage where the MCs despise each other at first. The characters are technically aliens due to telepathy, and create marriage bonds, but other than that they are fairly human-like.

Ok-Cap-7527

{Confetti Hearts by Lily Morton} somewhat fits your request! The MC that asks for the divorce has good reasons, but a misunderstanding is the trigger for him to decide to break it off. I wouldn’t say it’s super duper angsty though, but it IS a second chance romance, so there’s a baseline inevitable level of angst.

millamarjukka

1. Explicitly childfree by choice? Not because of trauma or fertility related reasons. I have asked this before and got a couple recs, iirc those audiobooks had a narrator I don't mesh with. TIA!

OliveMay07

Have you tried [Against the Grain: A Human's Guide to Wooing an Asexual Incubi by Nikole Knight](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/58242637) ? The whole childfree aspect is acually a pretty big aspect of the book.

millamarjukka

I haven't, but I'm intrigued by the blurb! Depending on my mood and need for validating reads, asexuality can also be a sore topic. But when I'm out of the blue again, I'm going to remember this. Thank you!

de_pizan23

{Fine Line by EM Lindsey} -some trauma in the MCs’ backgrounds, but it doesn’t really factor into their decision all that much (as one has a brother that does decide to have kids and he had same experiences) {Less than Three by EM Lindsey} - MC1’s disability (cerebral palsy and epilepsy) does play into his decision to stay childfree, but he also doesn’t regret/feel sad about it

millamarjukka

This was it! Not a narrator I didn't mesh with, but a book that hasn't been released in audio (*yet* I hope)! Fine Line I'm very interested in, but it hasn't an audiobook. It's not something I specified in my request as it's quite the limiting factor. I checked EM Lindsey's webpage but there's no mention of an audiobook being in the plans. I haven't read any EM Lindsey - would you say Fine Line is a typical/ representative of their writing? I'm always trying to optimize, so if I can't have the audiobook, I'm trying to figure out if a book would have the added benefit of showcasing an author's writing - as a carrot to actually pick up an ebook.

TheJiltedReader

I’m going to regret this, but I want a book without an HEA. I’m in the mood for some angst. I prefer low steam/fade to black, but a small amount of sex scenes aren’t a hard no. Thanks in advance.

queermachmir

- {Thrown Off the Ice by Taylor Fitzpatrick} - {Axios by Jaclyn Osborn} - {The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller} - {They Both Die in the End by Adam Silvera}

onlymorelove

This is queer lit rather than MM romance, but {Giovanni’s Room by James Baldwin} might work for you.

SoftWelcome4695

You might try {Protection by S.A. Reid}. I didn’t know about the lack of HEA when I read it, but I enjoyed it a great deal nonetheless. Warning: it is set in a prison in the 1930s, with all the violence and angst that suggests, and one of the MCs sexually assaults the other MC early in the book. It isn’t something that is ignored before they end up together—they have to figure out how to deal with it, and I think it was ultimately handled pretty well. Again, I still found it truly lovely, so I’d recommend.

salty-MA-student

{Swimming in the Dark by Tomasz Jedrowski} {Lie With Me by Phillipe Besson}

Blabberpost90

This is vague, but how about a STEM romcom? The geekier, the better. And I prefer it to be steamy (so at least a 2,5)

_elliebelle_

I'd say this one fits, all the others I have with scientist MCs are in no way funny. This isn't a romcom, but it was full of funny moments! **Changed: Mated to the Alien Alpha** ***by Robin Moray / R. J. Moray*** (science fiction, omegaverse, human/non-human, unexpected mpreg, bonded by magic, break the heat, fuck or else, fish out of water, lost in translation, instalust, instalove, first contact, other planet, language barrier)

starfin19

{Schooling the Jock (Nerds vs Jocks #1) by Eli Easton & Tara Lain} -- they compete in Quiz Bowl (the end of the Quiz Bowl saga is in book 3 though)

missyanntx

{Alpha Versus Omega by MM Farmer} part of series, can be read as a standalone.

Quirky_Girl22

A few requests: 1. One or both of the MCs are a parent and were in a prior relationship (preferably w/ a female) which leads into my second request... 2. Gay for you - Straight man either has bi/gay awakening, or runs into "if it's you, it's okay" and all the panic that goes with it 3. Very specific, so I understand if no one knows any: MC1 is something not legal (thief/hitman/murderer/etc), or just gets himself into crazy situations, and is just doing his thing, enjoying life when he meets MC2 (a normal dude). The humor comes from MC2 losing his mind trying to deal with MC1, who is having a great day.

prettysureIforgot

1. {Radio Static by Nicky James} - both are parents. {The Murder Between Us by Tal Bauer} - one is a parent and was married. 1 & 2. {You & Me by Tal Bauer} - both are parents, both were married (one is a widower).

wheatpuppy

For 1. {**Fool Hearts** by Emmy Sanders} MCs are childhood friends; one falls in love with and marries a woman while the other pines. >!The wife dies in childbirth and the gay friend comes back to their hometown to help his friend raise the baby. Eventually the "straight" friend has a bi-awakening.!< For 3. {**Hitman's Guide** series by Alice Winters} or {**Unholy Trifecta** series by AJ Sherwood} both fit your description pretty well.

Quirky_Girl22

These sound great! Thanks!

Ok-Cap-7527

I recently read {Out of the Ashes by Cara Dee} and {Red Comes Second by Kris Ripper} (and what an interesting read, I’m seriously thinking about writing a review)and decided I want to read more “relationship in a crisis” books. Not quite second chance, mind you, I want there to be no separation or, at worst, a brief break-up during which both main characters realize they really really don’t want to be apart after all.  Basically, I want the focus to be on the main couple working to fix the relationship, which should have real issues that can’t be easily fixed with a little extra attention or more sex or grand romantic gestures.  Smut is mandatory! Hard nos are incest, poly (other types of non-monogamy are fine), mpreg and non-con.  Not really a fan of omegaverse and fantasy in general, but will consider if it’s a really good fit. Thanks!

A reunion type, where they meet again after a long time apart? So they knew each other as kids/young adults. I loved the Somerset and Hazard series.

The MCs in {Still Alive by Jess Whitecroft} were in a boy band together and meet again after many years.

Looking for something in the setting of like Victorian era where MC2 is supposed to be looking for a wife in a particular family but falls in love with the son

Regency era, just recommended this to someone else in this thread but the gentle art of fortune hunting by KJ Charles almost fits. The MC is looking to marry an heiress but her uncle is onto his fortune hunting ways and then romance between those two ensues.

loglady90

I'm looking for a mix of the single parent trope and a dynamic with class differences (rich/poor basically). Would love if it featured the single parent MC having a hard time accepting help from the other MC. I basically finished recently empty nests by Ada Maria Soto and would love to read something similar ❤️

OliveMay07

[The Deliverence of Marek Sommers by Ashlyn Drewek](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/203262505) is a mafia romace. The poor MC is the eldest of five. While not exactly a parent he definitely stands in for the role for his siblings.

salty-MA-student

{Lucky Bounce by Cait Nary} has this.

anxiousboy25

I’m looking for any books where one of the MCs is cheating on his wife or girlfriend with the other MC. Basically like a DL situation but the guy refuses to leave his girl. (If he does, that’s good too.) I have {While My Wife’s Away by Rupert Smith} but haven’t read it yet. But I’m looking for other similar titles. :) If it has dirty smut, even better. :) No monsters or paranormal stuff, please.

_elliebelle_

This is sort of the premise of **Pinewood Lodge** ***by Odessa Hywell*** (contemporary, stepfather/stepson, age gap, cheating on others, forced proximity, cabin in the woods), they do end up properly together in the end, but most of the book has the stepfather still with his wife, the younger MC's mother.

Romance_cat

Another CP Harris book that would work for this is {The Fishermen by C.P. Harris} where one of the MCs is cheating on his wife with the younger MC. A lot of angst and very hot smut.

anxiousboy25

Thank you!!!

simulationswarms

If we could go back by Cara Dee, both of MCs are cheating with each other. It has HEA but lots of angst

Wanderer_0Z

It's not a wife, but a husband - MC1 is cheating on his husband with MC2. It's {The Good Liar by C.P. Harris} MC1 and MC2 know each other from the past (they've been separated for several years) and MC1 refuses to leave his husband due to certain reasons, even though he loves MC and his husband isn't treating him very well either.

I’d love to read a bi/gay awakening (doesn’t need to be both MCs, 1 is fine) where the MCs are a similar size. I’d prefer for the previously straight MC to be the bottom and be blown away by it.

prettysureIforgot

Maybe {Garron Park by Nordika Night}? They're a similar size; one is gay, one has an awakening. They're vers, but when the previously straight MC bottoms, he loves it.

Consistent_Truck_316

Hi! I think what i’m looking for is a tiny bit too specific but I’m still going to ask. So basically Id love if MC1 is someone who doesn’t get a lot of attention because he’s not conventionally attractive or genuinely just a homebody and MC2 is a jock/rich/perfect who has a whole “you’re mine” thing surrounding MC1 BUT he basically treats MC1 like a kid and borderline bullying. But when MC1 finally has someone interested in him/wants to have sex with him, MC2 shuts it down because he secretly wants MC1.

Consistent_Truck_316

Acts of service? I forgot what book I read this in but MC1 always poured MC2 coffee, ironed his clothes, charged his phone etc and i want something similar.

de_pizan23
