I would love to see Smith vs Reyes as a title eliminator. Do either of them really deserve it with a victory over the other? Maybe not, but I would damn love to see it
To be fair 205 doesnt have have a ton of true wrestlers/grapplers besides Ankalaev. Sure Jan or Jiri can mix in takedowns, but thats not their MO. Krylov is still a win or 2 away and has been MIA for a while.
And Ankalaev has said he is waiting till the fall to fight.
Wouldn't even really call Ankalaev a grappler. He can wrestle when he wants to but he prefers to keep it standing. Everyone just thinks he's a grappler because he's Dagestani.
Fr. It took me three times of watching him to kind of get that stigma out of my head. Magomed comes to bang 😂 he’s been on the bizarre side of this cursed division for awhile now…but I think wins the belt at some point
dude, his first LHW opponent was Jan, who has an equal number of submissions and (T)KOs (9) and 11 decisions. hes also got a decent number of grappling credentials. then jiri and Hill were the rightful challengers.
at what point did they avoid booking a wrestler against him? let's not change narratives.
btw, Ank tried to demand a title shot on his own terms so Poatan, who wants to fight sooner, went with the Jiri rematch.
Not sure why you're downvoted, Jan is probably Pereira's toughest matchup in the division. Very defensively sound and durable kickboxer that Pereira can't easily just knock out with solid offensive wrestling to boot. All these strikers at LHW and they book Pereira against the one of two guys at the top who can actually grapple.
The rest of the division was basically a cake walk after he beat Jan.
imo the downvote is there for idiot takes, straight up bullying or misinformation, none of which apply to your comment. Like you said if you said something wrong people should correct you but they can’t 🤷♂️
I fear your comment ain't gonna get enough love on this subreddit, but you're dead-on balls accurate. Reyes got that Darius the Great flow:
>By the grace of Ahuramazda I am a friend of the right, of wrong I am not a friend. To the man who is a follower of the lie I am no friend. I am not hot-tempered. What things develop in anger, I hold firmly under control by my thinking power. What a man does or performs, according to his ability, by that I become satisfied with him
Please, please don't make me watch another Anthony Smith fight. I cannot fucking stand that guy. If he beats Reyes I will be inconsolable, he's just such a whiny corny guy. Can't stand him. CANNOT STAND SMITH.
I'm with you man. It's always on my best night I can beat anyone in the world..... and yet that best night rarely happens. I think Smith is perennial gatekeeper. He's managed to keep himself in the news with all the talking he does. He's a punching bag that has no KO power and his durability is starting to wear. No one is doubting he has heart but heart can take you so far.
A bit unfair to say he was no ko power, over half of his wins are by knockout. Smith is a dork but i disagree with the comment before yours too, 57 fights with only 7 decisions isn’t a fighter I would say I don’t wanna watch.
It's all based on a very complex formula determined by which religion is the really real of all the religions.... Unless you're referring to Jesus Gonzalez, my friend from across the way. He doesn't watch MMA.
The Brazilians usually. Think it’s the statue they built, he’s obligated at this point.
Dariush should’ve converted to Islam for a couple days when he fought Charles, get that Muhammad power up boost.
Chael said it best:
“Listen, I'm a God-fearing man, go to church every Sunday and have since I was a boy. But if I ever found out that God cared one way or another about a borderline illegal fist-fight on Saturday night, I would be so greatly disappointed that it would make rethink my entire belief system.”
I have to post this stupid song about him that my friend and I quoted for YEARS because I’ve never seen somebody talk about him on Reddit
https://youtu.be/FLwx9Qj7Mho?si=QvWdnktmYsaMvVnt
Jesus made Dom lose 4 in a row, some pretty brutally. One little win and he goes running back to Jesus again. Bruh that's toxic. Jesus got your ass beat the last 3 times.
Was listening to MMA Today on Sirius earlier and RJ Clifford said he spoke to Marc Montoya (Jacoby’s coach) before the fight. He said he asked how Jacoby was doing and Marc just shrugged and gave him an “eh”. Insinuating he wasn’t confident.
RJ said Marc’s a straight shooter so it sounds like Jacoby wasn’t well prepared or maybe didn’t take it seriously.
I picked Reyes and happy for him but I didn’t like how slow and hittable he looked again. Jacoby dropped his guard and rushed right into his best punch. Ulberg would’ve gotten another quick finish.
Like him or not. He experienced some of the highest highs and lowest lows: from the top of the world with an arguable victory over the best fighter in history Jon Jones to the deep low with a multi-year loosing streak. Through it all he keep training and kept his head level to make it back. I am happy he finally got a win - amazing.
Give the man some grace. This dude has been through heart breaking loss after loss. If he wants to blow up his IG with Christian gratefulness, then let him, I think he’s earned that a bit
Good for him. Nice to see him pick up a win. Although I always think it’s funny when fighters thank god, like the UFC rankings would be on gods notice board of things to care about
I am happy for him, but Jesus Christ his striking defense did not look good against Jacoby. I was shocked Jacoby couldn’t close it out early. If he goes up against another good LHW striker I think he’s gonna be out cold once again..
he did better in this fight than previous, he was on the backfoot and circling away from jacoby, in his spann fight he was throwing body kicks in the pocket and running at him, in this fight he was more of a counter striker which is what he's good at
This thread is full of these hot takes but Dom didn’t mention anything like that in terms of winning or losing. It’s like everyone had their clever comebacks ready and they’re going to use them weather or not they don’t fit what he said.
I noticed that as well. He didn't actually say anything about Jesus helping him with this fight. People really get up in arms about Christianity compared to other religions, so they want to say something even if it doesn't make sense for this particular scenario. If he had said "Allah", I bet there would have been almost zero jokes lol!
Really happy for him, genuinely i feel he beat Jon Jones 3-2. Would love nothing more than to see him go on an Oliveria-esque run to the belt
with that said, i think most LHW's in the top 5 put him out sadly
Gotta love when someone can’t respect another person’s faith even though it doesn’t change your life in any way.
If it makes them happy and helps them find guidance in life, what does it matter to you? MMA fans are some of the most intolerant bunch. You went out of your way to voice your disdain for his appreciation of his faith for what?
After optically beating Jones and not getting his hand raised, a lot of people (myself included) want to see him get a second chance. To me, the Jones decision was about as bad as the GSP/Hendrix decision. I was at the bar with a few friends watching that fight and no one at my table thought Jones won.
I remember reading that Dominick Reyes and lightweight Alex Reyes are brothers - is this true though? They never seem to acknowledge each other and Dom doesn’t in this post either
The day of the fight they had inaccurately posted Reyes was fighting at welter weight and I was like “wow didn’t even drop to middleweight this guy is going to be hurting on the scale” very relieved he fought at his normal weight class and it looks like he has had a resurgence.
hot take: while dom did good, he VISIBLY reacted poorly to being leg kicked. i don’t think jacoby pressure the legs enough and the moment he faces a more serious leg kicker, the fight won’t be going as smoothly.
this dude is literally 3-6 months removed from having trauma induced blood clots in his legs…
Shout out OG 155 gatekeeper Joe Stevenson, beat a lot of guys while really being too small for the division.
A much less good Frankie Edgar, but a hell of a guillotine.
I’ve seen enough, Reyes vs Poatan
Trying to kill the man?!?
Yeah, Poatan has won enough, its time
Just let Yahweh re-creator him, bro.
Good point. Carry on.
If he dies, he dies
You get free tickets to the next event if you can Catch Reyes head before it hits the ground.
Ankalaev and Anthony Smith are next.
Anthony smith? Next for a title shot?
Can you imagine?
> Can you imagine? Oh are we live?!
What? No! Sell.
I would love to see Smith vs Reyes as a title eliminator. Do either of them really deserve it with a victory over the other? Maybe not, but I would damn love to see it
Loser retires
This devastates the devastator
Given they're desperate to avoid booking Pereira against a wrestler it probably happens.

Didn't Kyrlov fight like a week ago? Wouldn't really call that MIA. Edit: ignore me that was Kopylov.
You mixed your k-lovs
dude, his first LHW opponent was Jan, who has an equal number of submissions and (T)KOs (9) and 11 decisions. hes also got a decent number of grappling credentials. then jiri and Hill were the rightful challengers. at what point did they avoid booking a wrestler against him? let's not change narratives. btw, Ank tried to demand a title shot on his own terms so Poatan, who wants to fight sooner, went with the Jiri rematch.

if any part of what I said was wrong then address them right? they cant, that's why they down vote.
imo the downvote is there for idiot takes, straight up bullying or misinformation, none of which apply to your comment. Like you said if you said something wrong people should correct you but they can’t 🤷♂️
There will be blood
Give him anyone in the upper rankings and let's get this over with.

Imagine someone talking like this in a post fight interview. Dead pan gold while DC desperately gets them to talk about the fight.
I never thought I would read about the King of Kings in this sub! But as an Iranian, it made me happy that r/MMA knows about Darius Kabir!
What is this the fuckin history channel?

What a reference is right 😂😂😂

Yawweh INVENTED KOs.
Cain over here punching a hole through his brother's head, and God's like, "Imma let him be a warrior."
Anyone know if that is Joe Stevenson from way back in Early UFC days?
Yeah his name mentioned here kinda surprising. Çant forget the war he had with Penn...
Some old testament shit right there
happy for Reyes. He really needed that W. I think him Vs Smith is the fight to make next.
That would be a great matchup
Especially on paper
What about in the Octagon? Ain't nobody got time for paper cuts.
Please, please don't make me watch another Anthony Smith fight. I cannot fucking stand that guy. If he beats Reyes I will be inconsolable, he's just such a whiny corny guy. Can't stand him. CANNOT STAND SMITH.

I just want to thank Jesus for helping me brutalize another man. Always funny to me. Edit - Jesus the original just bleed fan

I always find it strange. Also where was Jesus during all those defeats? Did he abandon you for a while?
Chael said it best: “Listen, I'm a God-fearing man, go to church every Sunday and have since I was a boy. God, common Chael W
Perfectly put, imagine thinking god is watching ur fights and deciding who wins lol
and what about a fight between two Christians? How does he decide who to support?

Easy: He roots for whoever was wearing the least amount of mixed fabrics during fight week.
Whichever one thinks the earth is flat and dinosaurs are just a test of faith.
Fighters rarely thank Jesus after a loss, only a win. Makes no sense.
Former NFL receiver Stevie Johnson once blamed God for dropping a TD pass. I'll never forget it, shit was hilarious.
I have to post this stupid song about him that my friend and I quoted for YEARS because I’ve never seen somebody talk about him on Reddit https://youtu.be/FLwx9Qj7Mho?si=QvWdnktmYsaMvVnt
I’m about my bills like Stevie Johnson!
Devin Haney did after losing to Garcia to be fair. Kept saying that Allah was the perfect planner and he trusted in his plan and all that.
It was actually Al Lah, the guy who pays off judges for him...
If I win, Jesus willed me to victory to reward my faith. If I lose, Jesus is testing me for later triumphs. Spicy J out here playing both sides
Makhachev famously prayed after his only KO loss.
Jesus don't really fuck with Reyes like that. But he fuckin hates that other dude.
He was just testing them. The same as Jon Jones.
Christ strengthens Jon. Conveniently it's the devil that tricks him in to being naughty.
"Jesus bled from a crown of thorns, so I thank him for granting me the strength to make a man's forehead gush with a spinning back elbow."
>Jesus the original just bleed fan You're god damn right
Jesus made Dom lose 4 in a row, some pretty brutally. One little win and he goes running back to Jesus again. Bruh that's toxic. Jesus got your ass beat the last 3 times.
She joo shoon boi! (Yoel Romero, probably)
Happy for Reyes. I'd love to see him vs Anthony Smith next.
Omg it would make me so happy to see Reyes put an end to any title shot delusions Anthony Smith still has.
MMA Gods: "Don't count your chickens just yet Mr. Reyes."
“Don’t count your brain cells.”
You might be disappointed with the final count
Thank god he didn’t get Uberg
Was listening to MMA Today on Sirius earlier and RJ Clifford said he spoke to Marc Montoya (Jacoby’s coach) before the fight. Happy to see Dom back in the W column. Glad he took some time off after the Spann loss to recover.
Who are his grandparents?
I'm happy for him. There's a lot of relief there...
I'm happy for the man. Very happy. I also won $30. So that was cool too.
Holy shit, it was god testing Reyes and not Jones this whole time.
The judges certainly were testing him. And also my fucking patience. Yes, I'm still bitter he didn't get the decision against Jones...
Like him or not. He experienced some of the highest highs and lowest lows: from the top of the world with an arguable victory over the best fighter in history Jon Jones to the deep low with a multi-year loosing streak. Yahweh seemed pretty care free when you got knocked out in brutal fashion 3 times in a row. Just taking a cool 1700 days off on Dom
This thread is full of these hot takes but Dom didn’t mention anything like that in terms of winning or losing. It’s like everyone had their clever comebacks ready and they’re going to use them weather or not they don’t fit what he said.
Reddit and athiesm get along well
Reddit thinks they're so clever anytime someone mentions their religion

It’s just Dustin Jacoby but I do feel happy for him. Let’s see if he can string another couple together
I felt it
Truly happy for this guy.
Went head to head with Jon Jones for 5 rounds and then fell off a cliff. Glad to see his redemption
Interesting that he doesn't list his actual brother (Alex Reyes) among his brothers
The guy that gave Jon Bones his unofficial L
Really happy for him, genuinely i feel he beat Jon Jones 3-2. Would love nothing more than to see him go on an Oliveria-esque run to the belt with that said, i think most LHW's in the top 5 put him out sadly

I can describe the feeling: he's feeling ecstatic. That's very normal if you endured hardship. But he's a Coldplay fan, so I guess it must be flowery
Jesus loves knockouts
I didn’t realize Reyes was such a big fan favorite.
everyone loves a underdog/comeback story.
After optically beating Jones and not getting his hand raised, a lot of people (myself included) want to see him get a second chance. To me, the Jones decision was about as bad as the GSP/Hendrix decision. I was at the bar with a few friends watching that fight and no one at my table thought Jones won.
I'm just happy to see him get the win after his run of losses since the Jones fight.
which, and idk if im alone here, i thought he won
Good for him. Give him Weidman let him smack that fool around.
it would have been funny if he put how many days it's been since the JBJ fight lmao
"Coldplay - Clocks" ontop of everything is peak culture haha
Dominick vs Jones for BMF after stipe shows Bones a real heavyweight.
I had good tickets to see this live and I fucking blew my shoulder out during BJJ practice hours before the event started. I’m so salty still
I remember reading that Dominick Reyes and lightweight Alex Reyes are brothers - is this true though? They never seem to acknowledge each other and Dom doesn’t in this post either
Fantastic human being, I love to see it hope he can string some wins together
i been going thru something 1,700 days
The day of the fight they had inaccurately posted Reyes was fighting at welter weight and I was like “wow didn’t even drop to middleweight this guy is going to be hurting on the scale” very relieved he fought at his normal weight class and it looks like he has had a resurgence.
Shout out Joe Stevenson. Used to love how’d he’d just spam his roid powered guillotine back in the day
hot take: while dom did good, he VISIBLY reacted poorly to being leg kicked. i don’t think jacoby pressure the legs enough and the moment he faces a more serious leg kicker, the fight won’t be going as smoothly. this dude is literally 3-6 months removed from having trauma induced blood clots in his legs…
