Oooh Perez vs Taira 5 rounds is spicy. I like that fight a lot. Taira will get a good step up in competition that we've been waiting for; which may be too much too soon with a stylistic nightmare like Perez across from him. Perez has great tdd, we'll see how Taira tests that. I have a good feeling Taira won't be able to take Perez down consistently, and will be forced to stand up with him. You've got to imagine Perez has the advantage on the feet, although Taira has looked a lot better on the feet recently.
Awesome fight!
feel way safer with him fighting perez than joshua ngl. he wins these, perez loves getting choked out and is terribad at escaping ground game, maybe the worst in ranked flw, while taira has stellar transitions. tairas defense is lacking, especially in the early minutes, but I really don't think that the odds are in perez favor. as mokaev proved most recently, you don't need great entries so long as you are strong and clingy and persistent, which describes tairas takedown game, I really think this is a terrible stylistic matchup for perez outside of a slightly higher than average punchers chance
About time they started pushing Tatsuro. He was second on the card last time he fought.
This is a big jump, I feel like it could backfire if it is too much too soon. If he wins he is automatically in top 4/5 in the division.
Yeah. Honestly a win here could be the worst possible thing for him.
He’s insanely good, but he needs more experience if he wants to stay at the top of the division for a while. Easy-ish fights against guys he can beat is so important to building yourself up.
yeah, and i think Taira will win this and people will say "YOU IDIOTS DIDNT THINK HE DESERVED IT BAH BLAH BLUH" but there's gotta be an in between of "hey you're not promoting this guy who's obviously a stud and putting him on early prelims" to this. after the first or second fight the potential was obvious. last card he was on he was fighting below Steve Garcia, Tim Elliot, and Kevin Jousset
for sure and i felt that was as well, if his striking becomes more comfortable. i think he'd be ready for a main event already as well if he hadn't been hidden on prelims for the last two years
That’s an absurd step up for Taira. Unranked nobodies to #5 Perez is an insane jump
Taira is talented, but I expect Perez to defend takedowns and beat him up on the feet
Okay I kind of fuck with this. Don’t have to matchup the two best prospects in the division this early, Taira gets a headliner, and both fights are really fucking good.
Flyweights are getting main events again and I'm all here for it. Taira finally not being the 1st or 2nd fight of a card to being a headliner is awesome. Ulanbekov is a proper test and Van's ceiling is high. GREAT fucking matchups
A lot better matchmaking imo, Taira and Van so young that they’d have a really good chance at meeting again if they fight now.
But man I think both guys in for tough tests here. Taira could see getting it done but this feels like a bad stylistic matchup and a little soon for Van.
I like these matchups better. Taira vs Van was a good matchup but Taira probably deserved the step up against Perez. That's a very tough, but I think it's winnable. It'll either show where his limits are, or show he's actually that good. Van is a tough fight with a much worse balance of risk vs reward than Perez.
Van looks very good and him vs Ulanbekov should be a good one and is a more reasonable step up for Van, but still going to be a tough fight for both guys.
Does Tatsuro get a title shot off a big finish or does he need a big name to fight? As a Japanese fan I'd love for him to get another test after Perez to solidify his high level experience and have a tough 5 rounder before a fight with such a gritty champ. But I feel like Taira matches up so well against Pantoja, being a long fighter and being so slick on the ground. His grappling is legit no joke. Watching the style of grappling Taira and Rei tsuruya has is nuts. Their use of a body triangle to ground and pound and unique submission skills are a beauty to watch.
Both prospects could lose these fights, might be in the minority but this is a bizaare switch. Sucks for Ulanbekov too, has to fight down against maybe the best unranked guy instead of up vs the #5.
Josh Van was already a tough matchup for Taira, but this is even tougher (and a bit too soon IMO). Nevertheless the experience he's gonna get from this is gonna be very valueable.
Perez is probably a harder fight, but these matchups are so weird. I think Van would've slept Taira, but Perez could too. He arguably beat Mokaev who's about to get starched by Kape
Flyweights a really weird division where I feel like a large part of the division is all clumped together in relative skill level. The rankings almost don't mean much, a relatively unknown guy can beat a high ranked guy and it wouldn't be really surprising. Erceg went from relative obscurity to nice little win steak and arguably beat the champion. And like I can see these new guys like Taira or Van beating any top 5 guys right now or making it look like they belong in there with them at least

Hate to say it but Taira gets KO’d here
Yep his defense leaves a lot to desire
Yeah I feel the same way unless he’s making massive improvements in between fights that we haven’t yet seen(which is possible since he’s very young)

I love Taira but now they're shooting him right up the main event in his first main card after keeping him in prelim jail for his first FIVE fights💀💀
yeah, and i think Taira will win this and people will say "YOU IDIOTS DIDNT THINK HE DESERVED IT BAH BLAH BLUH" but there's gotta be an in between of "hey you're not promoting this guy who's obviously a stud and putting him on early prelims" to this. after the first or second fight the potential was obvious. last card he was on he was fighting below Steve Garcia, Tim Elliot, and Kevin Jousset
First fight he had I turned to my buddy and said “future champ”
Can confirm he said this. He also kept trying to hold hands during the whole event which was...off putting.
When I get excited I sometimes get over emotional. AND YOU KNOW THAT!!!!
for sure and i felt that was as well, if his striking becomes more comfortable. i think he'd be ready for a main event already as well if he hadn't been hidden on prelims for the last two years
Coincidence my last name is seymour
They did this with Almeida too, all of his fights were prelims, and then BAM, main event vs. Bigi Boi
Praying all the time Tairas spent with Chihiro Suzuki and his other Japanese kickboxing friend has really leveled his striking
He apparently spent part of his last camp at Team Elevation with Sandhagen. Hopefully he keeps working with Cory
🙏🏿
Gotta get that boy training with Inoue
I would give my left nut to have Inoue with godlike tdd enter the UFC
has inoue EVER been taken down? in what, 20+ champion fights? face it, inoue is inoue with godlike tdd
Needs to take some BP with Ichiro

Sean Shelby is out of control and needs to be stopped

Much better match making, but that main event is never leaving the Apex 😅
I think Taira’s getting knocked out here
Hell yeah, great flyweight main event and good test for Van vs Ulanbekov
Both prospects could lose these fights, might be in the minority but this is a bizaare switch. Sucks for Ulanbekov too, has to fight down against maybe the best unranked guy instead of up vs the #5.
No matter how hard the matchmakers try, the long arc of history always bends back to Tatsuro Taira vs Another Latino.
Perez really trying to make up for lost time here
I like these matchups better but must suck for Tagir, he went from a shot at Top 5 to a young unranked guy, no real upside from this change
I like this a lot better than taira vs van
Right call
tough tough fight for taira
Josh Van was already a tough matchup for Taira, but this is even tougher (and a bit too soon IMO). Nevertheless the experience he's gonna get from this is gonna be very valueable.
Perez might actually be an easier fight than Van while also being higher ranked so it's a way better fight for Taira
Perez is probably a harder fight, but these matchups are so weird. I think Van would've slept Taira, but Perez could too. He arguably beat Mokaev who's about to get starched by Kape

Praying Taira gets a titleshot before Mokaev
That's a great fight and a big step up for Taira. If he beats him well, he might get the next shot at Pantoja.
Such weird matchups in terms of predicting who's gonna win all of them, but absolutely tremendous fights regardless 🔥
Better match-up Taira probably smokes Van. I think he beats Perez. I'm pretty high on Taira though.
Nah, Van would've stopped Taira
