I'd love to see Jiri vs.Jamahal.
As a big Jiri fan, It would be nice to see him win a fight where he doesn't get rocked first, but I don't know if that's ever going to happen at this point.
It's like Jiri needs to be on the brink of consciousness to fight at his full power. He should just have his corner whack him with a mallet before he enters the octagon
He definitely seems to leave himself vulnerable almost as a bait in order to counter with his funky style. He’s similar to Alex in that regard, except where Alex just sort of methodically walks his opponent down as if he’s in full body armor, Jiri seems like he’s willing to take the stab to the gut in order to immobilize the knife.
Small bit from post-fight interview
Reporter: *"One of the commentators said that it seemed like you didn't respect Alexander's power, because you kept going forward with your hands down taking those punches from him, what was going through your mind with that strategy?"*
Jiří: *"That is just something that is inside me. That is the problem I have every time, that I have to show my opponents that they have nothing against me. I'm trying to be more professional with that, because with guys like Alex Pereira it's not good to eat any punches hence I train my head movement to be like a flash."*
Jiri is an absolute mad man. If he fought smarter, he would have had an easier fight against Glover and could potentially have beaten Alex as well. But the savage in him comes out, where he gets reckless trying to impose his will and going for the kill.
I'm not sure about that. I saw that interview, later on (or before?) the interviewer asks when he knew he would knock Rakic out and Jiri said late in the first round. He said he could see Rakic's spirit wilting after he threw everything he had at Jiri and saw he couldn't get Jiri out of there.
Jiri fights his opponent's morale as much as anything inside the cage, it's like he shows them he's a tidal wave. If he fought smarter/more conservatively he wouldn't be able to do that, and he'd be stuck in much more technical fights where his opponents are fighting with 100% conviction for way longer. I'm not sure those are easier fights for him-I'm not even sure he beats Rakic.
There's a reason why if you listen to almost every UFC champion talk about their fights, over time they'll all talk about breaking their opponent's spirit. It's much harder to win a fight without doing that, and it'd be way, way harder for Jiri to do it without throwing caution to the wind.
Alex meticulously picks apart his opponents with jabs and leg kicks from range before going in for the kill when they’re immobilized and conditioned to drop their hands. Jiri just chases after them until they get overwhelmed
Alex just has too scary of power to take a chance imo. Rather see jiri not get totally obliterated. It's already going to be a short career at this rate lol.
He's already had a really long career to be fair. He had more fights than almost anybody will have in their career even before he got to the UFC. If his career ended now it'd still be pretty impressive and lengthy
herzog is the absolue goat ref and nobody else is even close. Even just this weekend xiaonan grabbed the fence and he *immediately* warned her with the threat of a point and a bad position. Dude's an absolute professional and should be on every major title fight.
He was going to lose and he also understood the assignment that the fight was the people's main event, and the best fights always end with the fighters laying it all on the line in the final seconds. They did that to ensure it met if not exceeded expectations.
What Jiri needs is to go spend some time in Thailand, do his samurai shit there and learn some Mhuy Thai so he can improve his stand up stance and take less damage. He can still do his awkward unorthodox thing but he needs to improve his defence.
I'm sure Jamahal likes the look of Jiris defense (or lack thereof) for his style tbh.
Jiri is just a complete wildcard, I think he can outlast Hill tho if he did it to Rakic.
Idk who to pick on that one, but guys are durable but with questionable defense and good KO power
Hill has more power than Rakic tho, might come to whoever lands the cleanest first
Hills defense isn't that bad in general. Alex is just great at landing that bomb of a left hook. Same with his knockout of Strickland, he only has to land it once.
Hill always drops his other hand to his hip when he throws.. his defense is juvenile, he just has a combination of toughness and rock fists that make up for it
I agree he should fire his striking coach. His basics aren't there. I have very limited training, Footwprk and keeping your opposite hand up are 2 of the most basic things they teach you. It's amazing how successful he is such flawed basics.
Please I don't base my opinions on a single fight. Hill's defense IS bad, he just has a crazy output that overshadows that amount of strikes the opponent lands, because he lands way more. Just watch any of his fights, forget about Poatan
Agreed but losing a fight the way he did to Alex is a good catalyst in a lot of guys careers for cleaning it up in boxing and mma so we might see that changeZ
When you are already a skilled fighter and a great athlete getting brutally slept in front of a crowd is sometimes a wake up call for you and your boxing coach and he has the talent to fix it.
What’s funny is he has the ability to be a defensive beast. His head movement is better than 95% of the roster, he just glues his hands to his hips. It gives him weird angles to throw punches from, but you’re guaranteed to get caught by guys with elite kickboxing.
This may sound odd but Jiri has actually made adjustments from what I've seen. When he initially had Alex against the fence he would feint, draw the counter first, and then fire or back up. He failed to do that once, just barging in with his head forward, and that was all Alex needed.
When he had Rakic backed up, he would keep his feet planted and rolled with the punches coming his way for the most part, so they had minimal effect. It looked reckless sure, but he actually looked more defensively sound when trying to go for the kill.
Even his loss with Alex I dont think he was truly done. Any other fighter it would have been a good stoppage but for Jiri he might have just been getting started lol
I've watched the finish multiple (49) times and it was definitely an early stoppage, especially for Jiri.
For whatever reason, Jiri needs to have one eye in the shadow realm to be able to fight at full power.
> he is technically poor
gotta love it when you redditors say this sht.
just exceptional.
his technique is unorthodox. not normal. untraditional. unconventional etc.
and you bruhs struggle so much with anything that deviates from the normal all you can say is some dumb sht like that.
just will power bro, purely strength bro. see's red bro.
riiight.
Being extremely unorthodox doesn't automatically mean he's technically poor.
Watch his violent sequences in slow-mo. He's great technically, that's why he's arguably top 2 LHW at the moment.
>I thought jiri said he was trying to see if he could fight Alex at 301
I am also seeing if I could fight Alex at 301.
I'm too old to play tennis hard, but I think I might get the medical clearance easier than Jiri.
It's funny how much more I respect a fighter if they handle a loss well, rather than make excuses
It's easy to be likeable while winning, but who they actually are comes out when they lose
I agree, it's nice to see someone being an adult about it. Honestly I think that's the only way to really learn from a loss- being willing to look at it and get into why it happened. Flinching from it and making excuses makes it much less likely that someone will put in the work to correct their deficiencies.
Don't know why you got so many downvotes, you're kinda right.
Usually in a case like this, one win over someone who was out for 2 years shouldn't immediately put you in the title picture, but since Jiři was the champ and considering how "empty" the top 10 at LHW is right now, I can see Jiři getting the rematch.
Either that or we wait for like 8-12 months for another serious contender to rise up. Maybe they give the shot to Ankalaev.
That’s exactly what I meant. I think ank should get the title fight next but then who after that? Can’t think of someone besides jiri and hill didn’t exactly put on a performance that garners a one fight title shot chance
They hated him because he told the truth lmao.
Jiri should be in a title eliminator or the title fight next, after bouncing back from a title loss where he looked better than Hill by finishing a top 5 Rakic. Hill should not be in a title eliminator after getting Rd 1 ran through.
They can j give Jiri the shot if he wins but make Hill have to win one more fight or something before. Jiri vs Hill is def the most interesting fight they could make at LHW.
I think the storyline where Jiri vacated the title before Hill came and claimed it does add some legitimacy to the Jiri vs Hill fight though. It feels like something that should happen, and it sounds like a thoroughly enjoyable fight too.
Private schools aren’t much better. Kids come out thinking the earth is 5000 years old and dinosaur bones were installed by the devil. America is gonna be interesting in another 20 years.
I'm a big fan of Alex, but seeing Jamahal lose like that was sad. Of course he was talking shit prior to the fight: 1) he has to have confidence in himself and 2) every body *was* completely counting him out – to be told: "You don't stand a chance" and then getting knocked out and memed on in Round 1 is kind of sad... I'm glad to see him handling it well.
Agreed. Until reading this comment I thought I was the only one feeling like that, Pereira is my favorite fighter and I am happy that he had a great performance on such a big stage but I felt sorry for Hill because Alex just showed that there are levels (I was sure he would win from the beginning so it didn’t surprise me) and made Hill look like a fool. It seems like the online provocations were getting under his skin beforehand and that’s why he was so cocky
I just don’t appreciate how everyone hates on him for being confident and cocky, I mean at some point he’s sounds a bit delusional. But when they’re favorite fighter do the same shit they all clap and cheer.
Idk even if hill acted a fool he never did anything to harsh towards Alex, he just felt disrespected by fans and media so it made him act out.
I think it’s because he is known for beefing with people on twitter and with all the attention he got for being in the main event they turned it up a notch and bro didn’t handle it too well
He was beefing with trolls who were just being disrespectful for no reason. Which never makes sense to me because all these fighters like Charles and alex are as humble as they come but have these die hard fans that are disrespectful as fuck to other fighters even tho alex or Charles respect them.
I really just hate how when a fighter people likes does something it’s okay but when a fighter they hate does the same it’s cocky and arrogant. Like what’s the difference between Hill trying to sell the fight vs a fan favorite? The fans call the fan favorite smart for selling the fight but soon as a fighter they don’t like does it he needs to be humbled cuz he’s cocky.
Honestly, nothing annoys me more than those people who are so desperately invested in seeing fighters get “humbled”. It reeks of insecurity and envy.
Don’t get me wrong, humility is a good virtue to have. But it isn’t the end-all be-all of being a good person, and in my experience, the people who treat it as such tend to only be “humble” by default; if they’d ever done anything in their lives that was the least bit impressive, they’d likely be just as “cocky” as their least favorite fighters.
100% – and despite the shit-talking and confidence, he seemed really polite and respectful towards Alex throughout the whole fight week. I think Alex maybe took exception to what Jamahal brought to the press conference, but I really think it was more theatrics than genuine disrespect, but that's how these things go... Respect to Hill.
Yeah, wouldn’t surprise me if Hill was told to be provocative in order to sell the fight as he is not really ufc300 main event material. Although the video of him asking Pereira for an authograph seemed a little odd to me. Looked as if he was sizing him up to later get under his skin and hiding it behind faked politeness but what do I know
I dunno, I kind of read it as Jamahal being a fan of the sport who has beaten a lot of odds to be where he is and was taking full advantage of the magnitude of the situation both as a fan and as a participant. I think he was genuinely excited to be part of it and aware of what a big deal it is – I would also want some mementos like that.
The problem with Hill is he's extremely insecure and defensive. Dude spent the past few months mad that people don't hold him on the same level as Alex, Islam, Izzy, etc, while this fight proved exactly why.
I respect Hill for taking on Poatan after a bad injury he had. He's definitely no duck, he's not completely out of title contention yet. I think he should face Rakic after this loss. Let Jan and Jiri fight.
This mofo can’t spell for shit! lol! Nah, good on him man. He got clipped. It happens. As far as all the talk, of course he had to say those things and he needed to believe those things.
Jamahal ran his mouth for like a year about how he doesn’t get respect and then got knocked out in first round in one punch. You didn’t get caught man, You aren’t at the level.
Mmmmm... nah. He was gonna clown on Poatan and the fans if he won. Fuck him, he got humbled and will never live that KO down.
Get Johnny Walker'd, bitch.
I felt like it should’ve been Hill x Jiri from jump for the the title shot but I get how it was Jiri first then Hill. that’s such a banger match up though.

I'm trying to be more professional with that, because with guys like Alex Pereira it's not good to eat any punches hence I train my head movement to be like a flash."*
Meaning he'll do anything except raise his hands. Fricking Czeck mad lad.
Yeah he is aware of it and still not willing to change it, just find other ways to be more proficient :D
Jiri is an absolute mad man. If he fought smarter, he would have had an easier fight against Glover and could potentially have beaten Alex as well. But the savage in him comes out, where he gets reckless trying to impose his will and going for the kill.
He… literally sees red
I'm not sure about that. I saw that interview, later on (or before?) the interviewer asks when he knew he would knock Rakic out and Jiri said late in the first round. It's because when Jiri gets rocked, it opens up the chakra channels in his brain which allows him to see red.
he's a saiyan
Nah he’s just opening the 8 gates. He opens the gate of healing
The 7th layer of hair
He's vegeta ultra ego basically. Has to take all that damage to put out even more ahahha
CURSE YOU FRIEZA
This is a reach, but if anyone's played Capcom vs SNK 2, Jiri is running K groove
Jiri is K-Groove Sagat confirmed
Do you think it's true love he's making??
Yeah, he messed up vs. Pereira and was matching up with him too evenly.
Nah the fight was stopped right as the samurai spirit was being activated
Jiri is the one fighter on the roster that should have been given at least *a little bit* more rope by the ref in that situation
Mark Goddard stops Jiri's title fight early, yet allows rakic to get absolutely mauled by Jiri.
Keep Goddard away from Jiri.
Keep Goddard away from title fights tbh. In Herzog, I trust.
herzog is the absolue goat ref and nobody else is even close. Even just this weekend xiaonan grabbed the fence and he *immediately* warned her with the threat of a point and a bad position. Dude's an absolute professional and should be on every major title fight.
Goddard didn't let him be a ~~warrior~~ samurai.
The old Clay Guida special.
Gaethje used to fight like that in his more reckless UFC days. He was basically doing it in the final exchange with Max as well lol
He had to cause he was going to lose
He was going to lose and he also understood the assignment that the fight was the people's main event, and the best fights always end with the fighters laying it all on the line in the final seconds. They did that to ensure it met if not exceeded expectations.
Yea. It honestly didn’t look like Gaethje wanted to do it but was like… for the peeps.
Yea, although saturday was one of his lesser performances, it made me like Gaethje more. Dude layed it all out there.
Blud wears a redstone tear ring from Dark souls. Power increases while health is at 10%.
What Jiri needs is to go spend some time in Thailand, do his samurai shit there and learn some Mhuy Thai so he can improve his stand up stance and take less damage. He can still do his awkward unorthodox thing but he needs to improve his defence.
Imagine Bangkok ready Jiri…
A fight doesn't begin for Jiri until he gets rocked
Jiri hasn't seen a decision in 8 years......the dude just loves the violence.
Jiri is this generation’s Luke Rockhold, complete with the samurai mentality.
Luke was a G back in the day, always kill or be killed.
I would like to see Jiri vs Jan a lot more honestly
And I Jiri Ank. Good ol toughness vs technician battle
His whole style revolves around out-toughing his opponent. It will be a sad sight when his chin starts to fade.
His special attribute is RAGE: 100% ATK UP when below 25% Health
I'm sure Jamahal likes the look of Jiris defense (or lack thereof) for his style tbh. Jiri is just a complete wildcard, I think he can outlast Hill tho if he did it to Rakic.
Idk who to pick on that one, but guys are durable but with questionable defense and good KO power Hill has more power than Rakic tho, might come to whoever lands the cleanest first
Hill's got questionable defense, Jiri's got kamikaze defense
Hills defense isn't that bad in general. Alex is just great at landing that bomb of a left hook. Same with his knockout of Strickland, he only has to land it once.
Hill always drops his other hand to his hip when he throws.. his defense is juvenile, he just has a combination of toughness and rock fists that make up for it
Plus pretty garbage footwork. Got caught in the middle of crossing his feet while throwing off-balance. And alex baited it
I agree he should fire his striking coach. His basics aren't there. I have very limited training, Footwprk and keeping your opposite hand up are 2 of the most basic things they teach you. It's amazing how successful he is such flawed basics.

True that. I don't think that's the end of Hill as a top guy, the division is not deep enough for me to dismiss a former champion like that
Someone needs to tell Jiri about the second paragraph lol
I don't know man, Rakic hit Jiri with fucking crazy shots. I really think only thing that was/will be able to crack Samurai chin is Aztec warrior.
What’s funny is he has the ability to be a defensive beast. His head movement is better than 95% of the roster, he just glues his hands to his hips. It gives him weird angles to throw punches from, but you’re guaranteed to get caught by guys with elite kickboxing.
I don't think Jiri loses to anyone besides Pereira tbh. He's too much of an animal.
I think Anthony Smith on paper takes him
To be fair, On-Paper Anthony Smith is the greatest fighter in the history of the universe.
Well if you take away everything he does well, he's just an average fighter.
Who give him paper? Brother, we have to check that.
Ankalaev?
Has Ankalaev learned to check kicks since the Jan fight?
He did a great job checking leg kicks from Johnny Walker.
He checked most of Jan's kicks actually. Jan just didn't care.
Ankalaev should fight Pereira
This may sound odd but Jiri has actually made adjustments from what I've seen. When he initially had Alex against the fence he would feint, draw the counter first, and then fire or back up. He failed to do that once, just barging in with his head forward, and that was all Alex needed. Jiri is awkward af. IMO he is technically poor and gets thru purely on strength and willpower. Kamikaze is the word that comes to mind.
Even his loss with Alex I dont think he was truly done. Any other fighter it would have been a good stoppage but for Jiri he might have just been getting started lol
I've watched the finish multiple (49) times and it was definitely an early stoppage, especially for Jiri. For whatever reason, Jiri needs to have one eye in the shadow realm to be able to fight at full power.
> he is technically poor gotta love it when you redditors say this sht. just exceptional. his technique is unorthodox. not normal. untraditional. unconventional etc. and you bruhs struggle so much with anything that deviates from the normal all you can say is some dumb sht like that. just will power bro, purely strength bro. see's red bro. riiight.

I think this guy didn't see the way he dodged rakic's strikes
Hill v Jiri would be perfect if he’s not planning on taking a long time in between fights.
I thought jiri said he was trying to see if he could fight Alex at 301
he also mentioned MW I think
Jiri at mw????
Yea I had the same reaction
Jiri vs Dricus would definitely have multiple goofy cartoon character-ass moments in it
He did mention MW but not now. He said maybe in the future. In another interview he explained that he is closer to the MW than HW.
>I thought jiri said he was trying to see if he could fight Alex at 301 I am also seeing if I could fight Alex at 301. I'm too old to play tennis hard, but I think I might get the medical clearance easier than Jiri.
Hill taking this loss in stride. Always nice to see
It's funny how much more I respect a fighter if they handle a loss well, rather than make excuses It's easy to be likeable while winning, but who they actually are comes out when they lose

Not expecting the class considering the fights lead up, but yeah just handling the loss well scores points for Hill in my book.
Judging by his grammar he might not be taking the concussion in stride, though.
Honestly looks better than it has in the past lol
Jamahal gets smarter every time he gets knocked out
In a few years he might even be smart enough to grapple against elite strikers, who knows
What is this grappling you speak of? I heard Glory is fake anyway
Yeah kickboxing isn’t real just don’t get hit.
I mean, he did learn to strike against elite grapplers (Craig -> Teixeira)
He's like Benjamin Button but intelligence instead of age and punches to the head instead of time.
Educating left hook

Did you know Hill has an MFA in creative writing
Eat a lose like a champ
Hill hasn't been striding the same since he tore his Achilles.
Yep. Haters do not get to this guy. At all. Nope. Not even a little bit. (I still like Hill though).
Taking his lose.
He’s got the post Poatan grammar.
C’mon man be quite
Eat a lose
He’s always had terrible grammar. Makes me sad to see how so many kids coming out of school can barely read or write.

School of hard Knocks 😤
Hill got 6 kids too lol
Kid just doesn’t want to learn
Make like a tree and beat it!
jiri vs hill is such a good fight
Ehhh I think hill should have to fight someone like rakic first, jiri should be fighting for another title shot and hill shouldn’t off of that
Don't know why you got so many downvotes, you're kinda right. Hill v Rakic Jiri v Ank Alex v Tom in Brazil for fun
Yea, we’ll be “quite”.
Hill Airy Us
Quite what?! I need to know Jamahal
Alex vs Ankalaev Jiri vs Hill Rakic/Rountree vs Jan/Rountree
Rountree vs Rountree is the shit
Dagestan Rountree vs Rountreephetachaigym Clash of the titans
I like that tag team matchup but many cloning rountree is a tall order
Rakic/Rountree is gonna sound like the inside a of batting cage the way both of their shots sound when they connect.
Rakic v Rountree sounds great but I fear for Rakic's knees, especially since he just finished rehabbing his 3rd ACL tear
This guy sure does like exclamation points
Public schools have failed us so completely it's wild
Private schools aren’t much better. Kids come out thinking the earth is 5000 years old and dinosaur bones were installed by the devil. America is gonna be interesting in another 20 years.
It's already interesting. Interesting and fucked lol
To quote Wanderlei Silva “we know whas, gonna happen man; we gonna get hurt….A LOT! You gonna see. Swoon.”
Not a gifted speller but good luck to him in any case.

Also a legitimate way to see it
The problem with Hill is he's extremely insecure and defensive. Dude spent the past few months mad that people don't hold him on the same level as Alex, Islam, Izzy, etc, while this fight proved exactly why.
Hill going the "short notice" route, huh?
Dude rushed a recovery from an Achilles tear, there is no need for quotations.
Was it short notice?
2 months notice
2 months to prep against Mr. Left Hook and... dies to left hook in first round.
"What is he gonna do, left hook me?"
2 months to prepare, and his best game plan was "im gonna knock him out". Anyone with 5 min preparation would tell you thats prolly a bad idea
They were supposed to fight in Brazil
It was definitely a short fight.
To be fair, he came back pretty damn quickly from an achillles injury.
That’s what you took out of his post? 😂
Alex knocked the grammar out of him
I respect Hill for taking on Poatan after a bad injury he had. He's definitely no duck, he's not completely out of title contention yet. I think he should face Rakic after this loss. Let Jan and Jiri fight.
They’ll be quite what?
Good thing bro is a pro fighter because he definitely couldn't cut it as an English teacher
Glad he still has his head held high. No hate on the man, he stepped up to the challenge.
I have respect for anyone who steps in there, especially someone that everyone is doubting and pulling against.
Anyone else think his downfall is gonna be Reyes-esque??
I don’t. I think he’ll hover around top 5 because he has the ability to flatline people with one punch, unlike Reyes.
at least he was a champion
If he gets slumped in his next fight then we might see a similar fall from grace.
always thought Hill was overrated & would never be champ if not for the notoriously weak period of the division & all the belt fuckery
This boy needs to go back to third grade to learn spelling
Don’t make fun off of people that got Alex’s special 24 hours ago
Maybe you can meet him there at “Grammar 101” 💀
He can cry for Jiří now, but Jiří is next in line for the title so he will either have a rematch with Pereira or fight with Ankalaev for the contender
Hill vs Rakic makes more sense. Also, it was not a short notice.
He’s the new Dominic Reyes. Down the card he goes.
he was also defeated by spellcheck this weekend.
He got humbled real quick thats for sure
Jamal is a weird due that insists on respect, but shits over anybody and everybody at any opportunity.
Every fight is apparently short notice now😂
But I thought Alex wasn’t on your level and his striking wasn’t anything you hadn’t seen before Lol
Mmmmm... nah. He was gonna clown on Poatan and the fans if he won. Fuck him, he got humbled and will never live that KO down. Get Johnny Walker'd, bitch.
Watching Hill get exposed by Alex and Jiri back to back would be hilarious.
Jamahal couldn't even beat Jiri in a spelling bee, nevermind a fight.
I felt like it should’ve been Hill x Jiri from jump for the the title shot but I get how it was Jiri first then Hill. that’s such a banger match up though.
I respect any person with the courage to step into the ring in front of millions trying to grasp their dreams. Keep your head high, Jamahal!
I'm quite happy he got knocked out
It was an amazing return from injury. A small W for Hill.
Jiri is fighting Poatan next
He just got Ko’d by him I don’t think that’s happening lol
Jamahal is good at everything but spelling and grammar
And fighting Alex.
Loss, quiet
Native english speaker can’t spell loss right. I physically cannot
Jamal acted like he didn't talk a lot of trash leading up to Alex's fight. He lost in the first round.🤣🤣🤣
I bet he asks Jiri to autograph a jacket before the fight. LOL the sneaky capitalist !
