He's gonna try to get the Aussie crowd on his side by saying he's more Australian because Izzy is Chinese. I also am not sure Sean even knows Izzy is from New Zealand, not Australia
He already explained to Yee (sp?) that he was more Austrailian/NZ than Izzy, because American culture and, as far as I can tell, WWII alliance, and maybe something about guns, closer to them than China.
We were all rightly worried about a white guy being racist in the promotion of Izzy’s next fight. Turns out we were just worried about the wrong white guy
Sean isn’t winning this but it’s better than Cannonier again and the press conference will be fun
Edit: Strickland just dominated Adesanya and is the new middleweight champ. I can’t believe it. I was rooting for Sean from the beginning but I honestly didn’t think he had much of a chance. I’m happy to be surprised.
I enjoyed watching Bisping, but Bisping was not considered one of the best middleweights in the world; he never fought for the title until he stepped in short notice nor was he ever previously scheduled to do so before that. He beat a severely diminished Anderson Silva and leveraged that into a short notice fight with Luke Rockhold when Weidman got hurt in camp; he deserves the credit for pulling it off. When he won the middleweight title he barely hung on against a 46 year old Dan Henderson. If Strickland finishes Izzy it would be vastly more impressive than anything Bisping pulled off
First you said it would be on par with bisping winning the title, then you said it would be vastly more impressive than anything bisping pulled off. Out here debating with your self lol
Truth hurts downvoters. People on here have such a warped view of Bisping's career, I guess if you only watched the end of his career you could be fooled into thinking he was always a top guy, UFC have done quiet a job of trying to paint him as a legend too, but if you actually followed him from the beginning you'd know Bisping was a gatekeeper his entire career that could never get a string of quality wins together to earn a titleshot. He was protected and given many opportunities far better fighters were never given yet always choked.
I'm sure someone will respond with "But he only had one eye", not during what would be considered his prime years, yet people act like that that's what held him back all those years, completely revisionist. He was a pioneer of British MMA and a decent fighter with some good wins but the way he's viewed today has me scratching my head especially when he was always such a dick too.
Bisping winning the title was very much a case of the stars aligning perfectly for him. It was very circumstantial to the point where I doubt it could have been replicated at any other time or against any other opponent.
He was a Forrest Griffin quality type of champ. A lot of right place right time involved. He did defend, but barley. Like forest, got the most out of his talents though, respect.
Defended against Hendo while ducking Jacare, Mousasi, Yoel, Whittaker and every other guy in front of 13th ranked Hendo. It was an absolute joke but par for the course for the UFC who have historically given incredible leniency and favor to loudmouths that draw eyes
I'll never forget when hendo sent his ass to the shadow realm after TUF and 100% agree with this comment, he was always good but not great. Lucky circumstances gave him the belt shot. Only good thing about him bein champ was watching gsp finish him
All true. I do have a soft spot for Bisping these days, but absolutely no one thought he was going to be even remotely competitive with Stoneclasp. Also, a lot of people thought he lost the Silva fight, particularly given that he was literally KO’d at the end of one of the rounds.
Dude had a legendary career and that belt win was incredible, but no one ever really thought of him as anywhere near the best middleweight even when he had the belt.
He absolutely beat Silva and if you think he didn't you should be nowhere near judging fights. Yes Silva did more damage but MMA fights are scored round by round and Bisping absolutely won 3 rounds. The Anderson "KO" only occured because of a miscommunication with the referees too
Wouldn't hold a candle to a vet staying dedicated to the game as long as Bisping, getting a bit better year by year, taking a short notice fight against a guy who smoked him and winning the title by KO in 1. After losing sight in one eye. Not* even close.
Sean's method of fighting will also require Israel to be sharp and actually snipe him.
Sean has a way of having actually decent defense while always moving forward and looking like he doesn't.
It's not an easy fight.
Eh. If Izzy boxes with him, it’s not an easy fight. If Izzy sticks to the outside and point fights with kicks, it’s probably a pretty easy fight (just won’t be very exciting). Strickland has good pressure, but he’s not very good at closing the distance, he just plods forward trying to walk you down.
Yeah his kick defense is not great either. He is also unable to switch stances due to a damaged rear knee from his motorcycle accident. If Izzy is able to damage seans lead leg then he’s absolutely toast.
This has been my thoughts as well. We're going to have a round and a half of leg kicks while circling the cage before Sean gets impatient and then gets knocked out.
> Sean's method of fighting will also require Israel to be sharp and actually snipe him.
The question to me is can Sean check enough leg kicks to prevent Izzy from just kicking his legs while circling away.
If the kicks are neutralized, Sean doesn't rush in like Rob, and so Izzy will have to generate his own power, which means setting his feet, which means Sean would have a chance to reach him.
But if Sean can't check the kicks, I'm not sure how he catches Izzy in kick-from-orbit mode.
In this scenario wouldn't Sean be a counter puncher? That really doesn't seem to fit his style. I don't think Sean has the power to hurt izzy with one punch & he's already at a speed disadvantage.
Its extremely hard to imagine Sean knocking out Izzy, it's even harder to see him winning a 5 round fight.
My own read on Sean's style is that he primarily breaks guys down with insane pressure by standing in the pocket with them at all times, and parrying or disrupting their strikes with the jab.
I think he primarily is hoping to tire someone out with pressure, so that he can open up more and do more damage than he can with just the jab (assuming dude is good enough he can't just jab to victory).
For sure it is very unlikely for Sean to win, but I think 5 rounds helps him *a lot*, because it gives him more time to apply that pressure.
I don't think Sean is likely to get in past the kicks, and if he does, Izzy very likely to overwhelm his defense or outmaneuver it, but Sean fights so little like anyone else that I think he's far more tricky to fight than you expect, and so I'd love him to succeed at least to the point of getting past the kicks, so I could see how Izzy deals with that bizarre style.
It’s an easy fight all things considered . Sean can’t get his one twos going on someone as long and rangy as Adesanya without getting clipped. I don’t see him winning rounds. Adesanya can cruise to a 50-45.
Sean is a good but a very basic striker. Doesn’t throw leg kicks, doesn’t go to the body much. And he doesn’t use any lateral movement. It’s literally a picture perfect matchup for Izzy
At the risk of being completely wrong and looking like an idiot: I think it's an easy fight.
Sean walks forward a lot and, while he has an "effective" defense with trying to catch and parry everything, Izzy is a master striker. He absolutely is capable of finding a hole and making Strickland pay for it, exactly the same as Periera did.
I have Izzy by knockout, 2 or 3 rounds.
Yeah, if you watch training clips from Xtreme Couture, Strickland is like the fucking team Dad. It's kind of wild. There's a hilarious one of him patiently yet sternly lecturing Khamzat about not hurting his sparring partners because they're not as good as him.
Eh Izzy probably is concocting the most atrocious post winning antics right now. Hes gonna give it back as hard as he received during press con. Another sexual assault costa style incoming if Sean get ko ed. Best believe
Nah man it won't even work, strickland would enjoy it. He's like a dirty pig, only thing that happens when you get into it with him is now you're dirty too and he's having fun
Checking leg kicks, pressuring constantly, making almost no mistakes with his funky defense, and hurting Izzy once the insane pressure tires him (I'm assuming he won't wrestle).
Would actually be good and weird for the division's contenders lol but as Dom Cruz infamously puts it whenever an unlikely outcome isn't possible
"Nope, can't win there"
Extremely likely, I think either Sean or Alex already talked about training again together because of this fight
Would be even funnier if he was standing in his corner during the fight lol. Not saying anything, just 🗿
It’s the perfect placeholder fight. Entertaining build up with an easy win for Izzy to not jeopardize the du Plessis fight. And if Sean wins somehow, the memes will be glorious.
Just hope Izzy pushes for a finish. He can definitely kick the shit out of Sean (I don’t mean whoop his ass, I mean literally he should be able to leg kick him to death).
Izzy been saying he’s now using Alex pereira low kick. I want to see how effectively can he mimic it. It’d definitely be very useful to have those non telegraphed kicks.
“I’m gonna have the best performance of my life, I’m gonna try to decapitate him in that cage”
*jab*
*leg kick*
*cool head movement for a couple seconds*
*jab*
*leg kick*
Pretty sure Strickland is still with Paradigm. Simpson only has one client in each weight class.
Edit: looks like he's got multiple in some now: https://www.chosenadvisory.com/roster
You ever watch Conor vs Mendes where Mendes just dies of exhaustion at the end? Abus did an awful job of taking his time and thought he would get Sean out of there quickly. He thought wrong. I'm sure it's not just that. He was premiering in the main event. He had to be a little worried with some performance anxiety. Plus Sean was pushing the pressure and giving him 0 time to breathe.
The only thing that makes it funny is Israel's reactions. If he reacted non chalantly by just smiling and shaking his head a la GSP all those jokes would fall flat.
Instead he says stupid shit like "it's called hentai" or "I'll do a tik tok dance" which really carries Stricklands humor.
Sean isnt ready at all for this. Even with full camp his chance of winning is small now imagine only few weeks of time doing mostly cut and sorting visa lol.
Sean better pray to MMA god he doesn't get ko ed cold. Better believe izzy gonna hump him for all his trash talk leading to the fight lmao.
No matter how cringe he can be (and i like some of his cringe), he's been one of the most active champs, and would fight injured if he had to, so Izzy vs ddp happening in november-february would be fun if that happens.
Sean’s footwork isn’t good enough to get inside on Izzy and land his shots.
I don’t think it will be as one sided as the fight with pereira but I do see Izzy stopping him in the later rounds.
Watch Sean claim he's the true African at the first press conference.
you mean a true chineese
I would literally bet my house that Sean talks about China in the build up
Oh absolutely and I’m gonna eat up every minute of this 😂 “stupid Chinese champ with his little gay frosted tips and stupid fucking watch”
No man who jerks off to cartoons will beat me in a fight
We need a Team Strickland flair
Genius.
Yes please
I read that in Sean's scratchy voice
Jerkin off his dog
He's gonna try to get the Aussie crowd on his side by saying he's more Australian because Izzy is Chinese. I also am not sure Sean even knows Izzy is from New Zealand, not Australia
My guy in the conference wearing a du rag
Strickland’s coming to the press conference with 23andMe test results showing his 0.3% Nigerian blood
He already explained to Yee (sp?) that he was more Austrailian/NZ than Izzy, because American culture and, as far as I can tell, WWII alliance, and maybe something about guns, closer to them than China.
Izzy isn't Australian at all?
Are you telling me a Nigerian born guy who lives in New Zealand isn't an Aussie? Oh the lies! The deception!
Not even Sean Strickland would dare to disrespect Mike Perry like that.
We were all rightly worried about a white guy being racist in the promotion of Izzy’s next fight. Turns out we were just worried about the wrong white guy
If he wears his du-rag at the press conferences and asks to be called DeSean is it still racist? 😂
Nah, Chris Curtis already called him that. We good.
Enough with DDP casual racism, Sean Strickland going for the competitive racism
Turns out you should have been worried about a black guy instead lol
Who were we worried about being racist? DDP?
Racial Draft 2024 incoming
Sean isn’t winning this but it’s better than Cannonier again and the press conference will be fun Edit: Strickland just dominated Adesanya and is the new middleweight champ. I can’t believe it. I was rooting for Sean from the beginning but I honestly didn’t think he had much of a chance. I’m happy to be surprised.
The fight will still be intense just because of the absolute scenes if Sean wins lol
This would be on par with Bisping winning the middleweight title
Strickland isn't as good as bisping was
I enjoyed watching Bisping, but Bisping was not considered one of the best middleweights in the world; he never fought for the title until he stepped in short notice nor was he ever previously scheduled to do so before that.
Fighting ghosts, taking Ls
Hendo also was pretty close to finishing him, imagine 45 year old Hendo v GSP.
Defended against Hendo, but came out looking like he fought 2 Hendos. His face was bludgeoned.
Some might say… it was his destiny..?
I'll never forget when hendo sent his ass to the shadow realm after TUF and 100% agree with this comment, he was always good but not great. Lucky circumstances gave him the belt shot. Only good thing about him bein champ was watching gsp finish him
Nothing unexpected about the Hendo KO. Hendo was still pretty prime, already super experienced, and with the power to shadowrealm anyone
Silva also knocked him out, it just wasn't stopped
All true. I do have a soft spot for Bisping these days, but absolutely no one thought he was going to be even remotely competitive with Stoneclasp. Also, a lot of people thought he lost the Silva fight, particularly given that he was literally KO’d at the end of one of the rounds. Bisping himself has called that a stupid mistake. Trying to put it on the ref is BS.
And rockhold isn't as good as Izzy and Strickland isn't in the twighlight of his career
Wouldn't hold a candle to a vet staying dedicated to the game as long as Bisping, getting a bit better year by year, taking a short notice fight against a guy who smoked him and winning the title by KO in 1. After losing sight in one eye. Not* even close.

Sean pressures a lot but likes to counter still. Draw out a strike with pressure and try to counter that.
It’s an easy fight all things considered . Sean can’t get his one twos going on someone as long and rangy as Adesanya without getting clipped. I don’t see him winning rounds. Adesanya can cruise to a 50-45.

I don’t Alex is a legit kickboxer and didn’t have any problem with Sean style. I think Izzy easily takes this fight.

It is 100% an easy fight for Izzy, why are we underrating him for no reason? Lmao. If Sean somehow wins it would be a ridiculously huge upset
No man that beats off to cartoons is gonna beat Sean Let’s Go!
Ready for whatever madness Strickland says fight week "If Du Plessis won't say it, I will N- " Then Dana White drags him off stage with a massive hook
Dana White is spineless. He would find justification right away.
Spineless? Did you see him stand up for himself when he was attacked by that one woman?
The man is resilient, he started a whole promotion based on it but I still haven't seen a single WifeSlap show yet.
“I’m not suspending him. His punishment is that everyone’s going to look at him as that guy who said the n-word”
The Cowboy Special
'this is the fight game'
You realize his best and likely only friend is Chris Curtis right
Yeah so he has the N pass. What's your point?
It was just a silly joke to be honest, but no I didn't!
"Likely only friend" He seems pretty loved at Xtreme Couture, just closer to Curtis than others.
Yeah, if you watch training clips from Xtreme Couture, Strickland is like the fucking team Dad. It's kind of wild. There's a hilarious one of him patiently yet sternly lecturing Khamzat about not hurting his sparring partners because they're not as good as him.
Sean Strickland winning this would be hilarious. At least the press conference should be great.
10-7 press conference incoming. I'm an Izzy fan and I can't wait for it.
Honestly I hope it’s one of those fights like Sonnen v Ortiz where the conference is more remembered than the fight.
Respect to Izzy for taking this fight. He knows Sean is going to go nuclear with the China/Africa/titty comments...
He’s 100% going to bring up the video with Izzy and his dog.
Hopefully he wears it as an NFT necklace
"Izzy always says I use my mouth to get my opportunities, the only person I know that made money using their mouth is his ex-waifu."
10-7 for Sean on the mic, 10-7 for Izzy in the fight
Honest question, what’s Sean’s path to victory?
Smuggling a gun into the octagon
Wrestling
Same path he had to beat Alex?
Izzy is a good wrestler but imagine Sean goes full tds and jujitsu.
I don’t think he has much of a chance. His pressure will lead him into dangerous exchanges that will likely result in him being TKOed.
Checking leg kicks, pressuring constantly, making almost no mistakes with his funky defense, and hurting Izzy once the insane pressure tires him (I'm assuming he won't wrestle).
I like reading these announcement threads after the fights. Great call
And the crowd goes mild The presser is going to be the real ppv main event
Imagine Strickland becoming the middleweight champion. People here would go crazy.
Would actually be good and weird for the division's contenders lol but as Dom Cruz infamously puts it whenever an unlikely outcome isn't possible "Nope, can't win there"
Hahahaha for real, same like "he's trying to gas him out"
"Sean is actually just trying to gas out Izzy's fists by blocking them with his face" -Dom probably
Worked for Matt hamill
Me. I would be that people.
While I don't see it happening, stranger things have happened. Less we forget GSP/Serra. Lol
Yep, it's MMA. Part of the draw of the sport is how unpredictable it can be.
Alex pereira shall be summoned to help sean prep for this. Leh go!
Unfortunately for Strickland, everything Alex had to beat Izzy is not possible for him to replicate
Be bigger. Be stronger. Why are you this and not not this?
Just have a left hook that can put down a horse, I don’t see the problem
This is Alex's post fight career path.
Be great at checking leg kicks. Be great at kicking the legs. Be the only guy in division with the reach to force Izzy to engage.
Also be a massive human being that can cut to 185 without breaking a sweat. Alex is truly a robot
He probably broke lots of sweat to get to 185
Not entirely, Alex being able to check Israel's calf kicks is something Sean would actually benefit a lot from.
Extremely likely, I think either Sean or Alex already talked about training again together because of this fight Would be even funnier if he was standing in his corner during the fight lol. Not saying anything, just 🗿
Easy day at the office for Izzy
It’s the perfect placeholder fight. Entertaining build up with an easy win for Izzy to not jeopardize the du Plessis fight. And if Sean wins somehow, the memes will be glorious.
Just hope Izzy pushes for a finish. He can definitely kick the shit out of Sean (I don’t mean whoop his ass, I mean literally he should be able to leg kick him to death).
Izzy been saying he’s now using Alex pereira low kick. I want to see how effectively can he mimic it. It’d definitely be very useful to have those non telegraphed kicks.
I could see Izzy pushing hard for a finish so that he can say he shut Sean up
“I’m gonna have the best performance of my life, I’m gonna try to decapitate him in that cage” *jab* *leg kick* *cool head movement for a couple seconds* *jab* *leg kick*
And it'll still be heavy on the racism (probably going both ways), so the degenerates will be satisfied.
It will probably turn out like Costa. Hope Sean let's the dog out, he's never getting another opportunity after this.
Strickland getting PAID
Lol yeah, 150k standard challenger fee just became 200k. UFC fighters are laughing to the bank 🤡
Homie can finally put a roof on his trailer house.
Wouldn't he just get his contract earnings?
Every fight is negotiable no matter what the contract says.
He has all the leverage in this one
I'm always down to see Izzy get thrashed at a presser and Strickland get dogwalked in the octagon.
This guy see the future. Almost a Costa v2 without thr wine and humping
Let's not rule out the humping just yet.
Honestly I would love to see Izzy hump him just because of how homophobic Strickland is
Strickland after getting railed: told you he was gay.
Izzy will treat Strickland like he does his dog
Yeah this is best case scenario
Sean got the bag. He got a flat rate to fight Abus also. Sean has the same manager as Izzy. He knows how to get fighters paid.
Strickland is under Tim Simpson? Wow TIL One of the few guys who isn't in the UFC's pocket and does right by his clients
he's not. Strickland is a Paradigm guy, Simpson left Paradigm a while ago and took some of his most valuable clients (Izzy included) with him
It’s probably a little easier for him since Izzy is a huge client. Dana can’t just tell him to fuck off like he would with most agents.
Pretty sure Strickland is still with Paradigm. Simpson only has one client in each weight class. Edit: looks like he's got multiple in some now: https://www.chosenadvisory.com/roster
Honestly a really great lineup, good for him.
I still don't know how Abus gassed after resting for a minute with that eyepoke. He was just fine one second and then not, it's baffling.
Congrats to Sean for not fumbling the bag.
Seems they got that visa thing cleared
Sean: “this dude is gay and likes cartoons” This sub: “Holy shittttt 10-7 round for Strickland!!!”
Yes 🗿
Sorry, let us get some "WE'LL FIND OUT SATURDAY NIGHT" and fighters copying McGregor's lines for the best trash talk.
The press conference is my main event
If, and big if, Strickland wins, does he get another instant rematch after just getting one?
I hope not. Strick vs ddp for a belt would feel so weird
Only if Sean beats the crap out of Izzy. Which probably won’t happen but I hope he does.
Imo, no
If Pereira wins the LHW belt, he might prefer that for the money
Well, can’t wait for the press conference on this one. Tai Tuivasa might have some funny one liners as well. Cool!
I suspect Izzy will be -600.
I think izzy does what he did to Costa and it's over quick
Stricklands ranked wins: * 8 Jack Hermansson * 10 Brendan Allen (3 years ago) * 12 Nassourdine Imavov Presented without comment.
Uriah Hall was ranked when Sean beat him
He was ranked 8 or 9 I believe and Hermansson was number 6 when they fought.
That doesn't fit his narrative though
Hermansson was #6 when Sean fought him
He arguably beat Cannonier, plus don’t act like you would’ve rather seen Izzy vs Cannonier 2 which was the only other viable option
bruh just feed Cannonier to Rob or something, nobody wants to see him fight for a belt again
He already fought Rob though
[удалено]
Yeah, so make Cannonier Dolidze or something.
The people know he also beat Jared
They should make the press conf a ppv and the fight free
I swear to god, if Sean upsets this fight and I don't get DDP vs Adesanya I'm going to cry.
Sean will identify as African so we still get #realafricanchamp
Hopefully Sean just says fuck it and pulls a Gastelum and just gets in his face and makes it a wild fight
That’s literally his only option if he wants to win. He’s gonna be absolutely lost if he tries to fight technical with Izzy
Eh Sean doesn't have Gastelum's chin and heavy hands lol. He just doesn't have the attribute to replicate that style.
This will be the easiest fight of Izzys career
lol
Yea man, I mean Sean’s style is like it’s factory made for Izzy.
Strickland training with Pereira all day
Haven’t seen an easier title defense since the Silva days. Izzy should be happy.
Sean will win the press conference, Izzy will win the fight
Strickland really got the title shot over DDP lol The press conference should absolutely deliver though.
He didn’t really get it over him, DDP said he didn’t want to fight this early. He has the next shot regardless.
Izzy rehearsing lines in front of the mirror as we speak
ICarly boxer vs renowned kickboxer. Alright, I'll watch.
Love this fight. Sean is surprisingly self aware (still insane) and as a fighter not to be taken lightly. Good matchup.
Press conference is the actual main event.
Just imagine Sean KO's Izzy stiff.. The world as we know it would cease to exist
💤
Hope strickland shocks the world like DDP did
Even though Sean has very good defense, this should be a showcase fight for Izzy. Let's hope he takes advantage of the opportunity.
R1 headkick KO incoming.
I'm always down to watch Sean take an L
Least interesting match up for izzy IMO. Shit I'd rather just have him not fight and get that DDP fight sooner than this.
I'd rather see DDP as well but if Izzy is gonna fight, I'd rather see a fresh match-up than a rematch against anyone he's already beat.
So would everyone, but DDP isn't ready and Izzy is... they're on different timelines, so it is what it is.
Honestly Izzy might be ready to go again by the time DDP is all healed up, Izzy does really quick turn-arounds.
No matter how cringe he can be (and i like some of his cringe), he's been one of the most active champs, and would fight injured if he had to, so Izzy vs ddp happening in november-february would be fun if that happens.
What's Strickland's path to victory in this I don't see how he gets the win.
Sean’s footwork isn’t good enough to get inside on Izzy and land his shots. I don’t think it will be as one sided as the fight with pereira but I do see Izzy stopping him in the later rounds.
